When I was a kid in the late 1950's and early 60's I had a Triang trainset layout (HO gauge), and it had overhead wiring that controlled a Vicrail blue and yellow deisel that had pantographs and I controlled it from the transformer and not the track. It had posts and overhead wiring right around the track, It had a girder bridge, stations, railway crossings ,engine sheds and a turntable. Most of the locos, rolling stock and tracks and parts I purchased from a shop called The Model Dockyard which was in a basement in Swanston Street in the city, I don't think it is there now. I see you have Tait carriages on your layout with pantographs, do they still make overhead wiring that control pantographs or can you only control them from the tracks?. Keep the vids coming young man I am in my 70's now and have loved trains all my life......
Sadly, The Model Dockyard is no more. In the 1980's I built a model railway that did have operating overhead wiring. The engines and rolling stock were Fleischmann, not sure where the overhead came from.
You couldnt get any more unique a shop than Model Dockyard. Then there was Hearns Hobbies down below Flinders St station opposite Elizabeth St. Also Hearns Hobbies top of Collins Street. I had Tri-ang trains, Minic Motorway (grey-coloured roads) and Scalextric.
@@Kevin-go2dw My overhead wiring and everything to do with my train set layout came from Triang in the late 1950's and early 60's. It's a shame they don't have overhead wiring any more it really adds to the realism of the layout.....
Hey buddy, really great to see this layout safe and sound in its new home. Im sure Christie would be happy that its with an enthusiastic modeller. Looking forward to seeing another aus model rail youtuber about.
Amazing! Very sophisticated. Many years ago my father operated a model railway that was owned by the Lions Club. It was set up in an old building that formerly was a grocery store. My 3 boys were little at the time and loved it. I did too. Sadly no-one took over when Dad couldn't run it anymore. Dont know where it went.
What a magnificent layout, so simple yet so elegant......tons of action yet not complicated....one could get into a serious operating session yet also get lost in just running trains......i subbed!!!
Great video! I would love a video breaking down all the steam train models you own, the history of the train and how you feel about the model. And then maybe a follow up video about the diesels?
Great looking layout!!! Mine are just for “running trains”, I might get into landscape & buildings at a later point. I have a few Australian trains and am currently looking for some hoppers for my most recent acquisition.
Awesome video mate. I'm glad to see the layout is in safe hands and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it next. Would love to see some reviews of new locos and stock on the channel. I have always been a big fan of this layout. - Nicholas.
Hi there, awesome layout, I have a question regarding the size of the layout. What is the width of the boards used, I know you said it’s 2 metres wide I’m curious about the space available in the middle? I’m looking at building a new layout and love how this one is set up in general, thanks
Hey thanks for getting back to me, I thought that was the case, I’m in the stage of planning my new layout now, I’m looking at a similar setup to how yours is, I love how your layout looks
Absolutely fantastic mate I really enjoyed this video so much I will promote this video on my channel so hopefully lots of people get to watch this great video that you have done I will definitely would like one day to do a video
Beautiful layout I have a question it looks like it’s outside on the patio. Is it walled in so where it’s away from the elements or can it get really cold and really hot
The detail is inconsistent! Meaning the cars are too "clean" especially the freight cars! In other words there is not enough dents & dings & "rust" especially on the freight cars! Is that in your plans to remedy this? If not why not?
Brilliant. Look forward to your loco etc reviews.
@@Flying-Tampon cheers!!
Really nice looking layout there ! I love how the natural sunlight highlights the scenery, and gives it a realistic feel.
It definitely does! Although it’s only like this temporarily until It goes in my shed with LED lights to illuminate the layout
long shadows i think he means. i thought that looked great too.
@@kirstyblack3432it does! Wish I could keep it out here but gotta get into the shed !
Love it.. thanks for sharing

Nice and Tidy.

Could be the Mansfield line if it remained open. The backdrop is insane. It adds so much atmosphere to the layout.
The backdrop is by Haskell models! It’s awesome

It’s going into a custom shed eventually! Soon come!
Keen on model railway content mate.
Also how did you manage shipping a layout like that in one piece and with relatively zero damage?
Cheers!! And 3 of us managed to lift into a truck which it fit perfectly !
Great video, but your goods trains need a Z van haha
Build me one ahahah!! And cheers brother!
I'm making a couple of Z vans (scratchbuilt), but I need them for my VR 4 wheels goods trains!
What are you doing with the old layout?
