Still looking for the big comparison of strategic WWI games (incl. Fatal Alliances)

Really good review! I was just looking over this game, and your video helped me decide to get it. So thanks!
(The board for the German colonies is *very* intriguing to me!)

I really liked striker from that late '70,s or early '80,s it was technically set in the Traveler universe but it was great at making from WWII onward...

You are on the Mount Rushmore of corner rounding :). Someone more educated than I will have to determine the other three lol.

Not too big on WWI games but this one looks off the beaten track a bit. I like games that draw in some of the colonial events.
I worked in a project in SW Africa (now Namibia) one time. Very difficult to get to but one of the most interesting places I've ever been. Think Arizona with elephants. And DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT crossing into the diamond zone which takes up 50% of the country.

I have a war game of wwi in SW Africa - Boers, British, Cape colonials, Germans. Hex and counter, nicely done game. "Windhoek" is the name? That's the capitol as you probably know. I can't say enough nice things about that country.

You got it Ardy: voie sacre'e. "va-wah sack-ray", or the sacred way/road. I think this was a heavily shelled vital road supplying the Brits near Ypres. BTW the Brits couldn't pronounce Ypres, so they (including my great grandfather from Nova Scotia) called it "Wipers".

Sorry to be “that guy” but the Voie Sacree is the lifeline road that connects Bar-Le Duc to Verdun….not Ypres. The road supplied the French army.

@@wrongtracksuit No worries, maybe I'm thinking of Hell's corner, or some such.

The rule book has gone through a lot of changes due to typo's and the wrong information. IE> Starting reserves. I was a play tester for Chad Jesens GMT games and he was the best at accuracy and easy to read rule books. Why do people release a product that needs many corrections? Some of the counters don't have the back printed on them. Typical Compass games. Don't get me wrong. I love the game. It really captures the WW 1 theme.
I just penciled in the living rules. Maybe they will print a new rule book.

Very much in the same family as absolute victory.

Thank you for the video. Perhaps the closest comparison out there now is World War I Deluxe, by Decision Games? Just based on the quality of the counters you showed for Death in the Trenches (I almost heard angelic voices), this certainly has bested the DG one.

So that DG game is the new fancy version of the SPI Dunnigan classic. Not gonna lie, it's well-done, but this looks more interesting to me.

Well, looking at the counters has cooled my interest. The print is very small on some of the game-essential information. Since the background color of the counter and the "bumper sticker" abbreviations already show the nationality, I"m not sure why so much real estate has to be given over to the flag at the expense of the legibility of the other information.

    A 28-page rulebook...somehow printed without page numbers 🙄
