Listed a minimum of 5 items per day every day since 12/26/22. 1400 items listed. On average, selling between 3-4k monthly. 5-6 sales per day over most of that period. Last week I had 3 days where I sold nothing. Nada, Zero. Something is definitely up. Thanks goodness for my day job.
The slowdown isn't weird. Imagine. The actors strike, the writers strike, the car workers strike. The government talking about shutting down which means even the lowest of government workers will NOT be paid. Mother nature is taking out parts of the world. The economy is crazy... the cost of virtually everything has almost doubled in some cases. Noone has money to spend on anything that isn't a necessity. Everyone seems to be tightening their budgets. Now, on the other hand... people who collect things might still be spending.... well, this is my theory FWIW.

Over the years I've had consistent sales, minus some slowdowns like ebay updates and such, and high points during Covid, but my sales started stalling in April. Now I can have a 300.00 day, but then a 20.00 day. I am going days with only a few sales. I am listing more than ever. It's not what I sell (mainly toys), but I think a huge part has to do with visibility. I was searching comps the other day for some toys and would either get 0 matches, or hundreds but they were not really matches at all. If I were a shopper and had to weed through 600 listings, I'd go elsewhere. This isn't a one-time thing. It's been happening, even when I try to search my own items to see if they show (sometimes they do). I seriously think something is broken on ebay. Last week I listed 30-40/day up from my normal 20/day, and sales do not reflect that at all.
Dave. You liked when your wife took pictures of your unsold inventory. Why don't you have your nephew do that only. Then he can take pictures of everything in your storage unit. Seems like a better use of time.
hey dave ebay works weird and what you have in sales is what you have in listed. higher prices are smaller amounts sold and lower dollar sales are more in sales. do 10-20 items a day listed and it takes about a year for ebay to catch up
Its weird because I have heard a lot of people saying Ebay is slow, but mine has been doing better than ever. Just broke 9k for 90 days, but i have been listing 5 new items a day and selling similar items 5 per day.

If you complain about weak sales on eBay you will always find people who will agree. You will also find those who continue to rock the sales, usually the difference is consistently working your system and not taking too many breaks or use too many excuses.
People are literally complaining that their Low Sell Through items aren't selling and the only thing that is selling are high sell through items. My thought is their "Low Sell Through" is actually ZERO sell through. And yeah listing things that sell will get you sales. I'm growing. My average ASP is going up. I only list things people are buying.
@@TravisInDallas Same! I had a few days where eBay was glitchy and sales were kind of slow but I'm still getting good sales. I'm part time, I list 8 per day and my average sales are 5-6 per day. I do put in about 25 hours outside of my regular job. I feel like my hustling is paying off for me.
I do agree, but is has been way slower than normal for me and others, my buddy has 13k listings and has 13 sales last week, it's kinda crazy, I have way less and had 17 sales last week, but that's about 70% less than normal for me.
Absolutely not true I’m a 10 year top rated seller with 2k listings and I’ve never seen sales this rough. Since the summer it’s been up and down like never before. Something is wrong and it’s not the economy.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact groceries have tripled in price, gas is back to $3.50+ a gallon, it was an ultra hot Summer driving up electric bills, credit card debit is at an all time high and most Americans have gone through every bit of savings they had. All this while wages have remained stagnant. It's not that people are still buying necessities, like clothes, and not buying other things, like collectables. It's eBay.

Regardless of what I list, Sales on eBay for me are daily coming in when I list daily. That is the algorithm. We get rewarded with promotion when we list new items. So even if you list just five items a day that list 125.00, something will sell. Of course to really work the algorithm, is list things that are selling through. It is a weird, not so weird, coincidence when I list 100 dollars worth of items when I am busy, to sell 50.00 dollars worth of other items. Good products help get quick turnaround and sell through, but the key is regularly listing items every day. Good luck my man!
It's getting expensive out there with everything going up and paychecks staying the same so that's probably why nobody is buying things on eBay right now.
People are underestimating how many people have student loan payments. The average payment is $400. Not only have people not been paying it since Mar 2020, but all the new students who have never paid student loans before are starting as well. If you factor in all of Q4, then the average person with a student loan has $1200 less to spend. Its going to be a major blow to spending and for us (online sellers).
My sales are up. I do list pretty consistently at least 1 a day up to 20. I sell at least 10% + of my store every week. I monitor activity, send offers every day, and promote when needed. Ebay sales are not slow ever. You just don't have what people want at the moment or prices are off or its saturated. Many reasons for anyones shop to be slow but ebay is not to blame.
I used to be horrible but now I schedule 25 listings a day every day and trying to get 7-8 days in scheduled listings I was doing good but that came to a screeching halt this week...
I’ve had a few people over the years send me the msrp of some rare oop movie that is four to five times the msrp by then not understanding I have to make a profit.
I did the same thing, but for longer, and it always results in negative feedback. If you set your store from same business day shipping, to 5 business day shipping, ebay will still lie to buyers and tell them they can get their item in 2 days. Ebay completely ignores your handling time, and only goes by your historic shipping times when calculating that number. I refuse to use vacation mode because it takes a while to completely recover after you come back, so I set my handling time to 5 days, and deal with 4 - 5 negative feedbacks each time.

I listed for a while during the great recession in 2010 when I was unemployed. Doing that kept me a float until I found a job. One thing that helped me sell more in that bad market was to offer reasonable "buy it now" auctions and forget about bidding auctions. Especially for lower cost items. People don't like having to bid and wait on lower cost items. That's true for myself as well when I buy. I can't believe how many auctions are bidding style even on some fairly low cost items with an establish value. When I buy, I tend to ignore all those and look for reasonable buy it now's so I can get it right away and not wait a week only to be outbid by a dime. Often the buy it now's are overpriced though, and I am forced to bid and wait to get something for it's true value. Also, I always gave the size of items if any doubt. Pictures don't always show how big it is. Many sellers seem to leave that very important info out.

My sales have been up over the past couple of weeks. For me, the slow down came around mid august-mid sept...Guess it is different for everyone, depending on what you are selling. I'm sure they'll pick back up soon!
Last week was a terrible week. I then took steps to go through my listings and rework them, change shipping, run a sale. Things have picked up greatly. I think my store refresh was definitely a key
I am a small time seller with 350 items. Mostly jewelry, both Sterling and Vintage fashion. In August the first and third weeks were bare. In September it has slowed even more but my total is about the same as August. Average 12-14 sales per month for close to $500 . Trying hard to boost it higher but even with listing 2-3 items a day almost every day, it is sluggish. Retired from my jewelry business but love selling on line.
A portion of what I list is jewelry, from a massive estate buyout, think uhaul truck full of boxed jewelry…. Sales are down for us in this category compared to 1-2 years ago, during 2021-22 we were shipping way more jewelry.
My YOY on ebay is down 10 percent, and I have almost twice as much stuff. Also, my stuff rolls, very little junk. Traffic overall is just rough. Either the CPCs are killing traffic, I dont do the beta promote or everybody is tightening their belt because Christmas is around the corner. I hope it breaks loose soon.

Not just your store and not just ebay. I sell on 4 platforms. I'm not a big seller but I usually average $200-$300 a week. Last week I sold a whopping $60. And this weeks not doing much better. It was hard for me to get a decent video up this week because I had so few sales to show. Hoping that October is going to pick up significantly!
I am going to do some testing on my ebay store, I only have a small store, but I noticed when I was draft listing 3 items per day, I would make 1-2 sales a day. Last night, I decided to list like 20 new items and I sold 7 items at once while I was listing the new items. I want to test if I don't list any items consistently how my sales go, but so far it feels that listing daily and the more items per day you list the actual better items you sell every day. Which makes sense because all the other channels I watch list 10-20 items per day via automatic drafts or manual listing from a draft bank and their sells around 10+ per day. Clothing sellers can have like 100's of items in draft banks, and list 10-20 items a day easy. I can't list that per day for sure, but if I could I would for sure! Some people who sell just small electronics, can list 10-20 items per day too. I would recommend to try this yourself and have your nephew draft list a ton of stuff and then go in and just manually list 5-10 items per day, every day for a week
Down 24% month over month. Right before school started had some decent weeks. But slower since. It should tick up later in October. Don't bother week to week sales comparisons.
I am running into a lot of errors lately when using eBay as a seller and buyer. Maybe casual buyers run into issues while looking for something to buy and give up. My sales are up and down despite consistent listing. Cheers, Julien
A couple thoughts about why sales may be down. 1. I wonder if there is an explosion of resellers that are competing against one another for the sales. 2. Facebook Market Place along with all the selling group pages within Facebook has got to be draining the same pool.
Dave I’m like you I should probably be more consistent listing on eBay, but I do have other resell avenues so sometimes I’m doing non-eBay stuff that is not online listing. The last couple payouts were close to $2,000 a week, so that’s pretty good, this week is slower but that’s because I have not listed anything in over a week. So I’d say sales are doing great, in fact I have noticed a swing up with some items that were listed for a long time selling!
Yes my store is somewhat slow. That’s probably my fault though. If you’re not listing every day, you can’t expect to sell things. If you want to sell 10 things a day, you need to list 10 things a day.
My own policy, when it comes to prioritizing, especially for the purpose of bringing in more and faster dough, is: the best time to start prioritizing is “yesterday”! “Today” is too late…😊
Definitely not just you. EBay died for a couple weeks for me. My summer was my best weeks of sales then September hit and down 50% or more. In fact, last week I didn’t even get a payout from eBay. I got paid out on the previous Tuesday then $110 worth of labels came out, putting me in the negative. I didn’t even sell enough for a week to cover that amount… I’m part time and my weekly eBay payout is usually $200-300. Good thing I also sell on Poshmark
Dave, I have been thinking hard about draft listing, then today eBay forced me to do it. I listed a ups hat and apparently this is my second notice for listing this and a USPS hat. Anyway, now for three days I'm drafting and hopefully I'll keep it up. Good luck man!

It is down of us. We think it has to do with the economy and the high level of inflation.
My sales are holding steady, but i have to work at it to keep it there.

Last night, I decided to list like 20 new items and I sold 7 items at once while I was listing the new items. I want to test if I don't list any items consistently how my sales go, but so far it feels that listing daily and the more items per day you list the actual better items you sell every day. Which makes sense because all the other channels I watch list 10-20 items per day via automatic drafts or manual listing from a draft bank and their sells around 10+ per day.
Clothing sellers can have like 100's of items in draft banks, and list 10-20 items a day easy. I can't list that per day for sure, but if I could I would for sure! Some people who sell just small electronics, can list 10-20 items per day too. I would recommend to try this yourself and have your nephew draft list a ton of stuff and then go in and just manually list 5-10 items per day, every day for a week
Down 24% month over month. Right before school started had some decent weeks. But slower since. It should tick up later in October. Don't bother week to week sales comparisons.
I am running into a lot of errors lately when using eBay as a seller and buyer.
Maybe casual buyers run into issues while looking for something to buy and give up.
My sales are up and down despite consistent listing.

A couple thoughts about why sales may be down. 1. I wonder if there is an explosion of resellers that are competing against one another for the sales. 2. Facebook Market Place along with all the selling group pages within Facebook has got to be draining the same pool.
Dave I’m like you I should probably be more consistent listing on eBay, but I do have other resell avenues so sometimes I’m doing non-eBay stuff that is not online listing. The last couple payouts were close to $2,000 a week, so that’s pretty good, this week is slower but that’s because I have not listed anything in over a week. So I’d say sales are doing great, in fact I have noticed a swing up with some items that were listed for a long time selling!
I haven't had a sale in 5 days, which is very unusual for me.
I had a 4 day stint a couple weeks ago. But I had 6 no sales days this month, that's not happened in forever!!!
Yes my store is somewhat slow. That’s probably my fault though. If you’re not listing every day, you can’t expect to sell things. If you want to sell 10 things a day, you need to list 10 things a day.
My own policy, when it comes to prioritizing, especially for the purpose of bringing in more and faster dough, is: the best time to start prioritizing is “yesterday”! “Today” is too late…😊

Definitely not just you. EBay died for a couple weeks for me. My summer was my best weeks of sales then September hit and down 50% or more. In fact, last week I didn’t even get a payout from eBay. I got paid out on the previous Tuesday then $110 worth of labels came out, putting me in the negative. I didn’t even sell enough for a week to cover that amount… I’m part time and my weekly eBay payout is usually $200-300. Good thing I also sell on Poshmark
I know your paying him per hour. You may want to offer a bonus for listing over so mant per shift to keep him motivated.
Your listing habits are what happened. Don’t lose hope though, it’s going to ramp up over the next couple months.
Dave, I have been thinking hard about draft listing, then today eBay forced me to do it. I listed a ups hat and apparently this is my second notice for listing this and a USPS hat. Anyway, now for three days I'm drafting and hopefully I'll keep it up. Good luck man!
