    Would love to have this conversation with you Chris! I've done a LOT of marketing including display ads with Google and the truth is, this looks ridiculous to most ebay sellers because it was simply not made for "most" ebay sellers. These type of ads are for people selling much higher priced items. Imagine selling a car, if you know your numbers and you know every 100 clicks sells 1 car, it's quite easy to pay $100 per click. $1000 in ads to sell a $40,000 car is an acceptable ad cost. For a $25 toy, the math simply doesn't math.

      Great points. In a way Chris is no different than eBay. eBay is a business and they are tasked with making a profit. Chris do you do things and try new ideas to make money? You do you tube. You sell on what not. Why do you do those things. To make money.
      I clicked on the video to see what you had to say. Had to turn it off about half way through.
      eBay is not trying to get rid of small sellers.

      That would be $10 per click. It can get really iffy and people can skew your clicks.

    So now they have: promoted listing standard, promoted listing advanced (PPC), promoted listing express, promoted display ads and off-site ads.
    At one point these were all offered as part of being a seller on the platform (as part of the fees we pay).
    At the beginning of the year we were getting over 1,000,000 impressions per day. Once they pushed us into promoted display ads we lost 250,000 impressions. When they launched off-site ads we lost another 100,000 impressions.
    It seems that they took away the impressions we used to get, and now they want us to pay for them to get back what we used to have.

      Think you’re right on regarding their reduction/cessation of bulk spend for google adwords on behalf of all sellers/listings and are now passing that expense (or a portion of it) to sellers who wish to utilize it, have tested PPC in my niche 4 different times and it’s not a good fit for my space so I know better this time around. It’s not just that though. I’m not really a TH-camr but I bit the bullet and made a vid the other day to share some thoughts if you wanted to check it out (no biggie if not, don’t mean to spam the channel just thought it was on topic). Cheers and happy selling!

    I don't use any of the price per click things that eBay has available for our "use". More and more people are already trying newer platforms like Whatnot and I'm sure other new ones will be coming along soon.

    Tested those ads a few weeks ago.... pretty much just eats up the money with no benefit.. it's what I expected but I like to test everything......... Ebay is going the same direction of Etsy... I know at one point they were forcing shops to pay for Google ads .. no opt out... not sure if it's still the same

    I just checked, I've only had 433 visits. I can't believe the average reseller is going to pay per click, I'm not sure who they think is going to pay for this. I would guess the majority of sellers are smaller, if they drive us out, that means they make less money. I'm not sure of their logic behind this, maybe this is geared toward the larger seller.

    I will pass on this... already doing markdown Promotion and Promoted listings also paying for selling fees & for my store.
    profits are getting smaller , smaller everyday.

    They can make all the offers for this stuff that they want to. I don't do promoted listings. I don't do any kind of advertising. I don't sell high end electronics or name brand expensive items. I just keep listing and keep selling. Ebay can try all they want to keep trying to get more of my money. I just say no, stay my course and keep going. I have also moved many items to Mercari and I do just as well there. Also, with starting my TH-cam channel and selling there. Ebay will realize someday that they are nickel and diming us to death and we will move on. It's commercialism at it's best.

    As someone already point it out, this is for for stores with high price items. That's how Google made a lot of money back in the day when they started the pay for click thing. Lawyers, Drs, car dealerships etc where paying 10,20 30 dollars a click! Bc their margins are larger then most. Ebay it's doing this for stores that have items worth hundreds or thousands. It don't affect at all at small sellers.

    This platform is driving by listings, sales & store fees. I pay for a store, I do partial promoted listings & I list daily & attempt to get sell daily. My only worry is if Chris has got his shop underpinned before winter. gets here.

    This is another "silly" idea from the leaders of eBay and I think there will be some sellers are going to trick themselves into trying it and just basically lose a bunch of money. You are exactly right when you say eBay is just making competition for themselves. The other platforms are looking better and better every time eBay pulls one of these stunts.

      I sold an item on eBay recently, I promoted the listing though, but I sold the item for $85 and only ended up making $55 it's crazy I make much more on FB Marketplace and Mercari.

    Sellers should form a union and Avery one should agree not to pay any thing for PPC and promotions fee. With this pace, there is no money for resellers.
    Big sellers don’t want to come on eBay because why would they give their free money to eBay.

    The pay per click didn't work for google back when I had a couple websites back in 2005 so not sure what ebay is thinking I think its another money grab then anything else. I have over 15,000 total trading cards in my ebay store and I will not be using this because you will be paying for adds with no sells and most of my cards are low end cards so it wouldnt pay for me to use it. Love the video's O.S.P

    Ebay is crazy! No wonder the site is always crashing with the implementation of all these new "marketing strategies". They are out of control. Right now I give them almost 25% of my sales not including my shipping costs. I am ready to turn off my promoted listings and fade off into the sunset. I believe we can use social media to push people to our items without paying for this pay per click. So frustrating and so disappointed.😢

    • @oldschoolpicker
      @oldschoolpicker  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, I believe social media will play a part in helping with bypassing some of these promotions.

    I went to check out that Baroque Classics CD... It's got an error on the Trumpet Voluntary composer (and it's actually The Prince Of Denmark March)... There were three works I don't care about (that are annoying more than enjoyable)... That CD isn't worth the price of the click...

    Are they Buyers even getting their desired search results ? The aggressive push by eBay
    promoted listings will drive even more Buyers away. eBay will be irrelevant in 10 years.

    Do you sell a decent amount on Mercari? I'm fairly new to Mercari, but have already had one sale. It seems like I get a lot of likes from people on there though after I post items for sale.

    • @Art-ph3tu
      @Art-ph3tu ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's what I don't like about Mercari. People think it's ig,and just press the like button. Ebay has more traffic. Poshmark has a standard $7.40 shipping rate. If you offer discounted shipping,it cuts more of your profits.

    • @LeadMe2TheBliss
      @LeadMe2TheBliss ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Art-ph3tu So, should I try Poshmark then? I have gotten some tips recently from other re-sellers that it's a little better than Mecari. Have you gotten a lot of sales on Mercari, is Poshmark better than Mercari?
