    • @AZOverland2017

      Thanks Brittney. Here's a suggestion if you want to attempt it. Don't go all in right away. Take 1 wheel and just focus on that. Take you time with it and learn what is working and what isn't in regards to spray angles and how fast/slow you are spraying. The worst case is you mess up 1 wheel. Let it dry and peel it off and start fresh. Just make sure you put enough material on so it peels off. If it is too thin it won't peel correctly. If it looks good, move on to the next wheel on a different day. You will get progressively better. Most importantly, don't try to stray from the correct prep, wetness, and # of coats.

    Great make over, love the video and the result. How are they holding up so far? Any idea how long they would last in a wet place like Houston? We got lot of rain here. Also, do you have to be careful when washing the car or they just cure and end up being like paint? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

      Water should not be an issue. I was concerned about the water jets through the carwash as I don't have time to hand wash this vehicle. I did a video of the 1st time (see below). I also ran it though the Costco car wash which has more powerful jets nd so far no issues.

    Great results, well made instructional video. Let me ask, did you have any over spray issues on the body fenders from not masking them. I'm asking cause i want to hyperdip my 06 Tundra wheels and i like that you didnt have to take extra masking steps.

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not get any overspray on the body from the wheels. i did get a little overspray from the masking of the rear emblem. I should have put another layer around on that, but it was easy cleanup. It shouldn't be an issue doing the wheels on a Tundra as long as it's not windy. On trucks, with the wider sidewall and distance between the wheels and body panels, it shouldn't require masking. On some cars where that distance is less, it may require masking.

    Does one use the peel prep gel and pre-spray when using on emblems or only on wheels? I thought HyperDip didn’t require pre-spray like plastidip.

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only on the tires before spraying the wheels. you don't need to put it around the emblems, it will peel off the paint easily and break at the raised emblems as long as you build it up correctly.

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is the second video I've watched with Hyper Dip and neither of y'all masked off the car. Are you not worried about overspray with this product? Thanks!

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017  ปีที่แล้ว

      With the 4Runner, no need to mask around the wheels because of the size of the sidewalk and distance between the tire and fenders. With a car, I would mask a bit. Regarding the emblems, I did run some masking paper about a foot on all sides. For this, I would recommend running another layer (2') on all sides. Especially you are dealing with wind. Overall, my method worked out fine for my conditions. I also painted cars for a living for several years so I sort of knew the threshold of containing the over spray

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is better to do it in the heat then freezing temps. The material will dry faster so experiment with spray times as far as going moderate vs light. You definitely don't want to get runs buy going too heavy but also don't want to go too light and have a rough textured finish. Also, try to avoid doing it in direct sunlight. Start early. Good luck!

I just washed the 4Runner today and went out to look after your asked this question. I have no rock chips. The only damage is from a branch that scraped my lower valence and took a little material with it. Good news is, the paint below that scrape is in good condition so it protected it pretty well.

      I don't really see a reason to scuff. I did this almost 2 years ago and do not have any issues with adhesion. As long as you prep correctly and do those 1st few tack coats, it will adhere to the substrate (wheels, emblems, etc). I also don't think scuffing would be beneficial anyway, being a former auto body tech who has painted cars for years. There is a distinct difference between automotive paint in which you scuff the substrate for adhesion and a product like this.

      Possibly. From the website (they say PlastiDip but the same holds true for HyperDip):
      Since are differences between genuine chrome and factory "chrome" finishes. Plasti Dip may adhere and react perfectly normal over one chrome surface, but may have issues over another. Chrome emblems, badges and trim are traditionally fine - but a certain set of chrome wheels for example may cause adhesion issues. Due to the differences between the many "chrome" surfaces, it's difficult to predict the result for each application. Although it works fine most of the time, testing may be required first to confirm Plasti Dip is a suitable product for your personal application.

    Great video but I have not come across a video on TH-cam saying anything about wheel lugs everybody just sprays over them but what about changing the wheel after you get a puncture surely you will mess them up and the alloy why not remove the wheels its more time consuming but good exercise but with less masking up and being able to get into those blind areas and once putting the wheels back you have already purchased a new set of black lugs which want get messed up - this is the way I would do it ...

      th-cam.com/video/2UnvQ9pRUcE/w-d-xo.html
      As far as removing the wheel, Yes, the overall product could be better but the extra time and hassle may not be worth it. Most people don't have the tools (jacks and jackstands) to remove all 4 wheels simultaneously. Also, when you have your vehicle sitting up on jackstands, it's not moving for a day until the Hyperdip cures.
      Yes, if you are changing your tires out for any reason, the finish may get damaged. Fortunately for me, I haven't had any reason to change tires and the finish has held up very well for going on 2 years. So, it was well worth the money and time to change the look, even if only for a few years.

As far as damage to the Hyper dipped wheel itself, there should be none if you handle it by the tires when moving and mounting them. If you grab by the actual wheel itself, yes, there could be damage to the coating. If the lugs get scuffed and show, you can repkace the lugs with black ones.
