Pixel 8 Disaster: Why It's Worse Than You Think! (Trigger Alert)

- The Google Pixel 8 not receving Gemini Nano AI is catastrophic for the phone. Gemini AI is the basic, first ever on-device AI model from Google to assist in performing AI tasks, and the Google Pixel 8 can't run it due to hardware limitations. This is terrible for the phone and from my perspective means that the phone is dead and shouldn't be bought because Google has shown that it's not supporting it's devices, making inferior hardware, and not committed to support and misleading customers.

My love hate with Google is really starting to lean hate. Simply because they should be dominating in terms of software support
You make a very valid argument, quite a bummer for those who bought a Pixel 8. I think Google's going to lose a lot of customers over this decision.
I'm typing this on my Pixel 8. It'll be the last Pixel I'll buy for a long time. Feel massively let down by Google.
I had the 6 Pro and it was the most defective, disgusting piece of garbage. My mobile data was working every other month and meanwhile every single update was full of bugs. A whole year they didn't fix it and I switched to OnePlus and I am now living a normal life!
I still watch some Pixel videos because I am curious. Definitely a bad deal with the Samsung chip. Every phone with Samsung made chip is e-waste of a product
Glad I skipped this one and got op12
@@diandakovwe mainly get the S series of Samsung with the exynos process in the UK 🇬🇧
After being burned similarly to you I stick to iPhone, at least the experience/chip is the same across the board and the updates are released at the same minute across the world
I still only have a Google pixel 7 pro. I was going to upgrade. But now?!!
@@fasn279 and you not only get the bad Exynos chip but it's actually more expensive than the US model I believe! Before I bought the Pixel I was a Samsung user and now both Pixel and Samsung are in my block list! Samsung policy to bring themselves max profits and all is on the customers is not nice. How can you make Snapdragon and Exynos of the same phone and sell it the same price? Did you know that the Snapdragon model actually takes better photos than Exynos? Yes it does.
U get some ridiculous hate for the vids but ur the only one who really understands this n more importantly, calls these companies out. Tired of these keynote marketing campaigns to sell as many phones at launch as possible, only for it to be bs. Peace.
Yeah. Lots of people that don’t understand how things work with big opinions and no facts.
@@TechOdyssey yup. U were also the one to call out galaxy ai paywall. Not a mention in the keynote n hidden in a footnote.
@@hhhmmmmmmmm yup. True story.
Adam does get ridiculous hate from clueless peeps and he's not afraid to call out companies on their b.s.
I completely agree with this. I don't always agree and that's fine but on this he is 100 percent right. I wish Google would go back to snapdragon then. Like Adam said whats the point of tensor then if google is already limiting features.
I agree with you. I bought my 6a not expecting much in the way of new features but i hate it for anyone who got the Pixel 8 that's already going to be missing out on new features. That just doesn't make any sense.
Doesn't Marques always question the longevity of Pixels?
He doesn’t question the longevity, he just seems to think they get worse over time, but I think they get better over time, which I think is factually supported
MKBHD is Right👍

@@jevonsims900 Adam doesn't strictly agree.
@@TechOdyssey Pretty sure phones get worse over time, some less so than others.
Video Boost is something server side that the regular Pixel 8 and older Pixels can have.
It does some on the phone too.
Since VB is mostly software based couldn't Google just make a Lite version for Pixel 8
@@jevonsims900that requires them to actually care about their customers.
@@jevonsims900it shouldn't need a lite version thougn if it has the same chip. That's pretty stupid of Google.

Thank you for referring to my comment from the previous video in the current one, I appreciate it, and yes I see your point here. Great commentary as always :)
My very first android ever, ever, and chose pixel 8, not for the pro features, but because of the experience Google seemed to promise. Yes I love the pixel 8, but the fact that I am still waiting for my March update, March 10 now, makes me regret no waiting a few more months for the Galaxy. Totally disappointed.
Good points, I'd have to think really hard on my next device now
Thanks for sharing this
You are right, no question. I'm really disappointed with Google's arrogance about everything these days.
It's like Google lacked confidence that the Pro would make its money back without artificial restrictions on the 8.
@@watamatafoyu I don't think money ever crosses their minds - they have so much. They are like a child with a new toy. They tire of new things very quickly. I think Google has lost interest in phones. I've been with Google on many historical product runs. They have a pattern of dropping a great item by letting it wane on it's own, then discontinuing it due to lack of interest...that they created.
After what Google has done with the pixel fold after I spent $1800 on it, I will NEVER buy another pixel device. Most of the AI features that the pixel 8pro can do should be available on the Fold, especially after charging $1800 to customers.
100% and it should have got the best of everything
Hopefully you had this same weird energy when Samsung released their first fold. Nobody told you to buy a first generation product. This is exactly what you should've expected
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I hate to see a brand that I love , toying with their customers and losing credibility at the same time... typical Google, one way or another their products are misleading
That's why I'm subscribed to your channel - you really give your honest opinion. Thank you. I feel so lucky I didn't get tempted to buy the Pixel 8!
You talk so much sense.
Preach my brother!!
As much as It hurts me saying the iphone in that department is more consistent, as shady as they can be trying to sell you low specs for a lot, they keep getting same updates
Agreed. Stuff like this is why I haven't been able to hop back on the Pixel train since the first generation. They've seriously gimped the base model while simultaneously asking for more money. Having so many things artificially locked to the pro model is ridiculous. A pretty big asterisk next to "smartest smartphone."
Glad for videos like this. Nobody else has even mentioned it.
I moved from the Pixel 6 (previously the Pixel 2XL) to the 8 Pro and I would be equally upset if I purchased the 8 non-pro and with expectation of the hardware supporting the newest AI features as advertised and not getting them due to an unknown and undisclosed hardware issue. Google is rapidly losing my trust. I will be following this situation and at the slightest hint of these same shenanigans happening with the Pixel 8 Pro when the 9 series is released, I'm dipping on the Pixel line of phones.
I mean, is it really that surprising? This is the company that drops their own services and products at the drop of a hat. Same company that actively undercut its own base model phone with the 6a, 7a. Same company that half baked a foldable when it had the opportunity to wait a bit more and perfect the experience could be. If you buy a Pixel you're buying what it does out of the box, you should never count on what supposedly is in the mix for later.
They need to make some changes or they will lose me as a customer. The ai chip crap doesn’t matter to me if a Snapdragon can do more. I have owned a “Google” phone every generation since the Nexus 5x.
Bye 👋🏼
I saw flossy and you where laughing back and forth so cool my favorite tech dudes
He's a great dude!

You have a valid point . I have the 8pro and the UK still hasn't updated to the full on Gemini nano mine still uses Google assistant.
My point is that Google in the 8 and 8pro unboxing / keynote did state that only the 8pro was going to be fully integrated with A.I.
Why I don't know unless it is a Ram issue.
It still sucks because the P8 is $700, and the P-Fold is $1800. They both won't be receiving new features or updates not only 5 months after release. Google might as well have spat in everyone's eye except Pixel 8 Pro owners.
@@jordanjackson8873 To be honest I'm pretty sceptical about A.I it gives me the creeps I rarely use Google Assistant and I don't need an assistant or A.I for anything that I use my phone for.
To be honest I might switch to the Pixel 7a.
So many thoughts on this… I agree with your points, but I assume that Google has done the research on the phone to see the impact that this would have on the standard 8 series. I agree that these companies should at least have their current model phones have enough power to run their feature drops for at least the next year… at the end of the day, you should never bank on phones getting features that are not mentioned at the keynote.
March 12th and I still haven't received my march update even though it was due yesterday. Definitely the last pixel I buy if this keeps up
I'm 100% with you on everything you said.
I have a Pixel 8 from T-Mobile and I have not received the March update yet. Is there any time frame for the update?
This every year planned obsolescence in phones needs to END! A phone is, at its core, is a communication device. Damn, I miss the old flip phone with a removable battery that did not need constant updates to merely work.
My 2007 Samsung Blackjack was a work of art
Then go buy one....Kyocera, TCL, Nokia and a few others still make flip phones but you won't because you know you need more than just a flip phone
You don't need a smartphone to have a communication device.
You're angry that the Pixel 8 is supported with updates up until 2030, and it will still work after that by the way, I still use an old Motorola Moto Z (2016) from time to time, has'nt had a update since 2018. I would'nt do banking on it, however!
@@lundsweden I’m not angry. I’m disappointed that we now have “phones” that need constant updates just to continue working.
I was about to purchase it, and made an hard u-turn on my decision. Two things:
First this fiasco of 8 model not getting Gemini nano (ridiculous)
Second, where i live (in Europe) it doesn't really make sense to purchase Pixel phone since there are a lot of featurea messing from the US model. And all that at higher price then in US. It should be cheaper at least, cuz there are features missing.
Let Google have it!! I appreciate your videos!!
Your points are astute
I always liked Google since the Play era, but the fact that they have a website that represents a graveyard of Google services shutdown always ring something to me. It is tiresome that once that one as a user gets acquainted with the service and actually starts to enjoy it, Google just decide to drop it. From Google Play Music, Hangouts, Duo (now meet, not that intuitive imo), Stadia, Google Podcast (YT Music don't make the cut yet), Pixel Pass (which I was heavily considering it) and lastly GPay, Nest Secure, and these are the ones I really grow fond of. Then you see the hardware department: how cool was the soli radar on the Pixel 4 XL. That was more useful than a thermometer. From where I see it, that thermometer is not coming anymore to any phone, so I'd figure.
I have yet to see Google specifically say what "hardware limitations" keeps the pixel 8 from getting the same features as the 8 pro.
Yup. No update
@@TechOdyssey Great opportunity for another lower cost device (OnePlus or Motorola) to pick up the P8 pieces. But wait, that would mean that Google would have to license them. Nevermind.
waiting for the class action
I would like to see you review the xiaomi 14 and compare them to the oneplus 12 and the galaxy s24
The Pixel 7 Pro was my last Google purchase. Got tired of the "OK" hardware it came with. Rocking my S24 Ultra now. Way better hardware.
yeah after the pixel 6P and 7P i switched to the s23U and its the best decision i made which is crazy cause I'm a google fan and they just let me down back to back
if samsung just had proper AI features & not their marketing AI which barely works & feels like its AI from 4 years ago. other than that i dont need a sdgen3 or even gen2 since i only use a browser, check emails & text messages. no games for that i have a pc, console or portable handheld.
Better everything except camera
What happened with features drop i still didn't get March update on pixel 8 pro?
I haven't got the feature drop for my Pixel 8 Pro either
As usual, Google is still lacking in the "Communications Dept"
Appreciate your continuous great work putting out these vids... Ty
My 8 Pro may be my last Pixel, I'm not impressed with what Google is doing. I've been a big fan since the Pixel4a. But you are correct what is Google not telling us? Thank you for understanding the shady crap they are doing. Your right the 8 does not have pro features as the 8 Pro, but it's the same hardware 🤦
5 months in. Pixel 8 already getting featured blocked. It's a bad look. So when pixel 9 pro came out, I'm sure the 8 pro will get feature blocks as well. You know it
Im gonna keep trading in...i jsut cant think buying a phone for 700-1200 anymore, none of these ohones are worth their price tags anymore. Theyre just rehashing the same phone over and over with some small uodates. Id rather pay 250/350 trade in value
I'll never buy Google again. I bought the Nest, and it's been a disaster. Furthermore, I know some people who own a Pixel phone, and they ended up buying another phone to replace it. Their complaint has been both hardware and software issues. Some said the battery doesn't last long, and they have to constantly recharge it. The software doesn't sync with the hardware, sometimes apps will crash, the phone runs warm to hot, it reboots on its own, etc. I've had the money and tempted to buy any Pixel phone and ended up buying Moto phones instead.
As a Pixel 8 owner, I am disappointed that it's missing the Gemini ai feature. Pixel 8 shoot in 50MP is only available to Pixel 8 Pro model even though it has exact same main sensor camera and I am thinking that Google is doing this on purpose. IMO it's not a hardware limitation, they're just turning them off for the cheaper model.
Agree 💯.
It's total bs from Google.
They can not (don't want to) support the phone with basic features just a couple of months after release but talking about 7 years of OS and security updates.
What's the point of getting a Google phone when you're not getting basic Google AI features?🤷🏻♂️
The Tensor (Exynos for Pixel) is worse than the mid range Snapdragons.
I was such a big fan of Google Pixel for years, but they're going consistently in the wrong direction.
As much as I love google and Pixels- you do have a good point. I’m glad I passed on it this year
I switched from IOS to the 8 pro and love the phone but I agree with you it may be my last Google phone if they can't get this right the features that you are talking about are Pro level features and should be able to run in both phones period. This really makes me 2nd guess my decision in switching to Google how long will my phone truly supported!
You just made a new subscriber with this Video. I feel that Apple is doing the same thing, but with "smaller" functionalities, like the ability to see the battery cycles in a non pro phone or the capability to zoom 2 times by software, like new phones are doing. It's a shame that the bad behaviours are always copied.
Is that a Ringke phone case on your Pixel 8? Also, Pixel 9 series both sizes will be Pro
I was going to get the pixel 8 but decided not to since google severely crippled the 8. I was waiting for xiaomi 14 global version but it's taking forever to come out. I got the S24 instead and I'm happy with it. S24 is packed with ai features.
Trying the honor magic 6 pro right now, the display is amazing.
I'm not up to date with this but what ai model ate you speaking of ? Thanks for your input
Gemini nano. And you’re welcome
@@TechOdyssey what's that?

I love my 8 too, but it was a big disappointment when ik heard about the feature. I do think it will something hardware related, because why wouldnt google want the 8 owners to use their AI. Its oerfect to keep you locked in the Google software ect...
Also remember, Samsung's allegedly Ai feature only good for 1 year 😂
It's still available for even 2023 mobile smart devices.
ios pixel 8 with $399 deal or price at $499 default good price ?
I had the pixel 8 it was the last pixel I would buy, so I bought my first Sony and very pleased with it.
I have had all the Nexus phones and I have had all the Pixel phones up to the Pixel 6 pro. I had always been a Google "Fan Boy". I had so many problems with the 6 pro which were never sorted with updates it was just forgotten by Google. So last October I was looking at a new phone either the Pixel 8 pro or an Apple 15 Pro Max. I made the choice to jump ship because I don't trust google to support their phones over a year old, where I know it will be better with Apple. Its such a shame about the Pixel 8
Seems you jumped ship just in time
That's ridiculous I have the 4xl and I'm using basic Gemini assistant. I'm not a fan of it Gemini, but damn google
Might have to buy out my phone and upgrade to Ultra 24 🤔
Has the pixel fold been given any ai features ? Surely that’s about 3 times the price
Not really. None of the new ones. Doesn't even have circle to search yet and also no Gemini Nano. It's pretty ridiculous for a $1800 phone
Agree
Great content. Your 100% right. Here's something you should put in your video. Not all s series of the s24 have snapdragon gen 3, only the s24 ultra has it. The rest have the samsung chip, BUT it still has the Google Gemini. So it's not about it being a pro model feature. It's an every phone feature, at least for the s series phones. It reminds me of samsung giving a brighter screen to the iPhone 15pro rather than giving it to the s23 series.
The entire s24 series has the Snapdragon 8 gen 3, not just the Ultra. Granted, your point still stands. Their entire flagship line-up of mobile devices from 2023 will be receiving the same features. Also, Samsung has the brighter nit count and max brightness with auto-brightness. They didn't give their brighter screen to Apple for the 15 series; they just put it on the s24 series.
@jordanjackson8873 need to check again. In the USA, yes, most other countries have the 2400 chip.
@jeromegold3216 Oh yeah, that's true. Sorry, I forget about that all the time, and I try to be considerate of that fact when giving my opinion.
This is the problem with Google there's always a catch with everything. Take that new circle to search thing for example. Added it to the 7 and 7pro. Yet left the 7a out and didnt give a reason. Doesnt give you good confidence really.
Watch, the 8a will be able to run gemini nano 😂
I wouldn’t be surprised. Cause Google

Love hate relationship with pixel. It has many issues and my biggest gripe is the lack of sound customization. Samsung has it right with the dolby atmos and other custom things i can do. Not only that but google needs to seriously update the hardware and stop under performing. All of this is my own personal opinion
I kept my Pixel 8 for 3 months then traded it in for Oneplus 11. The 8 got too hot and dimmed on me a lot. Plus the super slow charging was intolerable.
Now you talking! But it also concerns models that are older as the fold and the 7 pro. Don't buy a phone that doesn't have that function at the time you buy it. Only Samsung and Apple can do that.
No excuse for Google not updating a less than 1-year-old phone non-budget phone.
Hell I'm still waiting on the software update on my google pixel fold
I'm a huge pixel guy and I agree 💯 with this. That's how I felt when circle to search wasn't on my pixel 6.
I wouldnt expect a regular pixel like the pixel 8 or even pixel 9 to be good after 3-4 years...EVEN with 7 years worth of updates
Workable yes, but i imagine gaining and losing features over time will be a thing as the tech gets older but i could be wrong
I bought 8 pro for myself and 2 8s for relatives 🙂
Camera, best ergonomics for holding in hand - not worrying of sliding (your fingers under the camera module without grabbing the sides) and price 👍
I was on the fence between the upcoming Pixel Fold 2 and OnePlus Open 2.
This news has tipped me to the OnePlus camp because I can get the AI features I care about from Google on a Snapdragon with a far superior hinge.
I gave Google a second shot after the Pixel 6a with the 8 Pro. but I very nearly didn't for either the iPhone 15 Pro or the Sony Xperia 5 V. When I can upgrade again in December 2025, I will probably go for the Sony Xperia 1 VII over the Pixel 10 Pro. Who knows, maybe hell will freeze over and I end up with a Samsung... oh, perhaps not... we get the Exynos ones in the UK.
I was expecting a later release of those features.
100% correct
It's a waste now SMH google need to be sued for this
well, if sales goes down we'll start seeing good trade in values again lol. only reason i got my 6a was because trade-in for my 3 was really good. if i get good trade in value for my 6a or my 8 i'll consider the 9, lol.
Totally agree with Adam! The G3 CPU is not as good as 8gen2. The only advertised reason was that this processor excels others in the AI area. And after only 5 months we have known that it was a lie. 😢 As an owner of the pixel 8 piece I am totally disappointed.
Don't forget when they realize they can use phone's display to create a whole face flash..100% software. Apple only allow it to be used on current flash ship "Retina Flash". LG did update and allow older phone to use it. Or how when Samsung etc use same camera sensor. They don't use same post edit algorithm. Only keeping best algorithm on newest device. Force pay wall with new upgrade. Even when it 100% possible with older hardware
I agree with you on this craziness
What did I miss about the Pixel 8? Is there a previous video in this thread?
The pixel 8 and pixel fold won't receive Gemini Nano. Also, P-Fold won't be getting circle to search. Google said it was because of hardware limitations and didn't further their explanation.

prob barely - also u get what u paid for. every company does it - learned it many many times, even when others proofed that it does indeed work on that or that hardware - the bigger picture is that if they make it available is: they are liable for it & have to offer support (app & customer) long term & thats why they dont do it since its just way more expensive behind the curtains to maintain)
I do agree with the sentiment, but I honestly don't care about these features, the pixel 8 is the cheapest compact phone I coukd get my hands on

Google is making the mistake of having only 2 traditional flagship phones. I think three or four is the sweet spot. Give the top two phones similar specs and features with the only difference being size while having the entry flagship phones limited in features.
I have the opposite opinion. I think less is more, too many options is confusing. Take Samsung for example, way too many phones.
Nah. Honestly Imo the standard 8, shouldn't exist. The 8Pro and 8a should be the only options
@@jaredshelton4718 oh I meant flagship line up, Samsung only has 3 phones. With the Pixels, I think the two phone line up kind of just pushes the lesser model for a very specific niche that doesn’t want all of the features of the Pro model.
