    If Professor Aurora Sinistra, the Astronomy teacher at Hogwarts, was born in Africa, she may have attended Uagadou. This makes sense, because Uagadou students are good at Astronomy and Sinistra is the Astronomy teacher.

    the fact that in Africa they don't use wands makes Africa more advanced in magic. wizards use wands because they aren't able to control magic themselves. j.k Rowling herself said on Pottermore that Africa was the most learned in stuff

      6 rs later well since magic originated there and the school itself might be over 1000 yrs old yeah wandless magic is a give in for them. Starting with the wand stunts growth in some regards it seems

    I think this school is so vivid and alive, the witches and wizards there are in deep connect with themselves and also nature(as I feel). They can channel the magic in the bodies without wands and aslo transform to many different animals which is not an easy thing to do. I think wand are very useful,personalized and work with the wizard but at the same time ,a wizard must learn to use magic without a wand.

    I like the idea of using magic without wands. I think it adds personality and versatility to magic, because it doesn't say that there are standardized gestures for spells, the way I see it is that it depends on the person performing the spell for what gesture they use, so it's more personal and unique. also you could probably aim a spell through more than one finger, so you could potentially disarm five to ten people with one spell depending on if you use one or both hands. I kinda figure wands are like an electrical wire, they conduct energy and direct it, but I also think any object could potentially do that, walking sticks, rings, probably a feather, really anything as long as the user can figure out how to "tune" it right to work for them.

    • @iona5485
      @iona5485 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carl Deaton I never actually thought of that and I think that your right in some ways, although I think wands translate the spell and also amplify it, making it easier to cast, although if a wizard or witch could learn to use unassisted magic they would be more powerful.
      I do remember reading somewhere that more advanced spells need wands. But I can't remember where I read it so it might not be true

    • @aeris44
      @aeris44 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ben Tarr I believe humans could be naturally good at magic. I mean it's why witches and wizards from Africa rely mainly on just their hands on the first place. Its just over time magical society elsewhere relied heavily on wands and possibly lost a lot of touch with nonwand magic, which is equivalent of real world inventions. They help immensely but some individual skills may be lost with certain advancements. With gain, there's bound to be loss.

  • @brianvance1178

    I think Hand magic is vastly more powerful than wand magic since the magic energy is released from the wizard/witch directly, without needing to channel it through a piece of wood

      Nah, you wouldn't be able to cast a wandless Blasting Curse or anything like that, I imagine. That kind of magic should be too destructive to cast it with an unprotected finger or so.
      I think that wands ultimately make the average wizard/witch superior, while wandless magic, on the other hand, makes above-average wizards/witches a whole lot stronger than the former due to the speel/flexibility it allows them in a fight. They can simply flick their fingers and stun a person, while a wizard that is dependent on his wand, which he has to draw first in order to cast a spell.
      This is at least, my theory on the topic. (I like to write HP fanfics so I spent a lot of thought on stuff like this ^^)

I actually wanna be friends with you 🤣🤣 in Africa, especially West like Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia etc, they live along side the spirits. They brings village communities together and make sure everyone is behaving. Done done research on them for my uni project. You should watch Kumpo dancers dance on YT, omg it's incredibly mesmerising. It's hard to find videos of them putting out fires but they'll spin and the costume gets burnt, but there's no one in them. It's amazing honestly. I think using hand gestures to do magic is a very good idea. In a duel if you're disarmed you can simply use your hands, furthermore if hogwarts had taught this technique there is a chance that James potter would have survived voldemort, seeing as he and lily had defied voldemort 3 times ( or so the prophecy says ).

  • @unclebigkid8719
    @unclebigkid8719 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Merlin himself was said to be a hand wizard so I think it's a good idea. Besides hands can say so much more than words.they can welcome or speak through sign language so in a way that is magic.

    I think wands are better because they kinda give you a little personality. Like glasses for instance. And wands can produce more powerful magic. But I do think that people should learn to use magic without wands at all schools because of what happened to James Potter and many others because they didn't have their wands. Let me know please if you like my idea please!

    • @susangardiner2087
      @susangardiner2087 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      exactly. If James had at the ability to use magic without his wand he would have either gotten away or went down fighting instead of planly being murdered.

    • @danielopolot4198

      I don't think wands produce the most powerful magic at all, in fact I think wands are a hindrance to wizards. From what we know, only the most powerful wizards can produce any kind of substantial magic without wands, but the students of Uagadou can transfigure from young ages into any manner of creature, and isn't transfiguration said to be one of the hardest subjects to learn, yet alone master.
      I don't think this is because they are simply more gifted than their European counterparts, but because magic expressed solely through ones body is infinitely more powerful than through a wand. My theory is that, like glasses made to help people see better, wands were created to help people who found it difficult to practice magic. The wands acted to facilitate them, but it wasn't meant for everybody, it wasn't meant for the average abled-magician. But over time, they were adopted by everybody, because like you said, they add personality.

    • @danielopolot4198
      @danielopolot4198 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Wands were seen as sleek, suave, and stylish, but the thing is, if you wear someone else's prescription glasses for too long, because they look cool, they'll do irreparable harm to your eyes. After all, you see people walking around with glasses (albeit simple non-prescription glass lenses) for fashion, don't you?
      And just like that, wands do so to your magic. But all of this was unknown of course. Generation after generation, more and more children were bought wands by their parents, who were oblivious to their detrimental effects. And eventually it became the norm.

    Is no-one going to talk about how there are three schools in Europe but a total of two for Asia and Africa combined? If there is 1 schools for every 250 million people in Europe, there should be 20 schools on those continents put together, not just 2.

      there are probably more smaller schools that don't really make themselves known. and based on many African community knowlage and story telling traditions, there is probably a lot of magic that is taught by elders to the young wizards and witchs.
      also keep in mind that europe is a bit more wealthy in a manner of speaking, and has more formal academic schools than Africa does.

She also saud that magical schools rarely last because many widzards prefer homschooling. She only talked about the most famous one on each continent and since ouaganda is the biggest magic scool of the world it's normal she talk about this one rather than the others. It's the samething in North America I believe they're 4 or 5 schools but we only concentrate on Ilvermony cause it's the biggest and the coolest. I don't think that the lack of resources were a problem for African wizards. Actually my theory is that wizardry in some African countries is known and not negative. So they don't feel the need to go to a specific school since they can learn freely and serve the community, muggles and wizards. There are of course certainly other schools in the continent, but I lived there for several years and I like to think that it is that way! :)

    I think the use of magic trough hand gestures is a lot more efficient also this in combination with non verbal magic could be very sneaky and used as a advantage in a duel. It's interesting how the students are told they get to attend the school by a stone but I'm confused to how muggleborn students might mistaken it as a simple wired stone so I think they'd be as well told by a member of the school after they found it.

      Remember, they visit you in your dreams first. That's probably tell you that you've been chosen. Then you wake up with the stone in your hand.

    I personally think that magic through hand gestures is awesome because if your wand gets broken you have an alternative . plus think about doing the reductor curse with a wave of your hand

    Hand magic has many advantages. Not being reliant on a wand gives you especially an advantage in duels. You cannot be disarmed unless someone cuts your arm off. In my opinion every school should teach both wand and wandless magic side by side.

    I think hand gestures is a huge advantage 1 it's a lot harder to disarm your opponent when they're using their hands
    2 you don't need to have to remember to carry along a wond and u are always ready..

    I would love to see the other wizarding schools, especially uagadou to be explored in movies. It would be really interesting to see more than just Hogwarts and how wizards all around the world are different from each other.
    I also like that they can cast spells without wands, that is pretty neat. Although i would probably still want to use a wand because they have awesome designs.

      i get the feeling(to reflect real world folklore in the african and asian continent) there are a lot more smaller schools. maybe to mirror the idea in some african folklore that magic isnt necessarily a foreign concept, it comes natural to some regions over others. also explain wandless magic too. maybe that will explain why(my first choice also) for an school on the asian continent wouldnt be india(or persia maybe), in the potterverse they may have many small schools there, just not major ones like hogwarts for britain+ireland.

    Africa is one of the most advanced at magic, looking at they start hand magic at a young age. Hogwarts students start this method when the are 17, and never truly learn the highest parts of it. Albus Dumbledore could use hand magic, and he was thought to be a very powerful wizard. Then you look at Africa, where the children do such at eleven years old. Now give a wand to an African student, and they would be almost inevitable. We aren't even counting the fact that they can transfigure into animals of any sort at FOURTEEN years of age. Hogwarts students take much longer, and this is another example of how powerful they are.
    Thanks!

    Just found these Magic Schools vids. Terrific stuff. As for hand magic, I love it . Very elegant and very ancient . Can you imagine levitation with a wave of the hand, or petrification with a point of your index finger ? SUPER COOL!!! And to be able to transform into any creature???? HOW USEFUL WOULD THAT BE ?????

    I want a book about each school but this particular one fascinates me because it could be the oldest one besides being the biggest one.
    We have seen Dumbledore and Voldemort use hand gestures to use magic. It seems that relying on a wand makes it more difficult for Witches and Wizards to focus their magic with only their hands. Which for a while led me to think that wands were a "shortcut" invention which allowed to access spellcasting faster. But it also seems that wands amplify one's magic and allow for more simple and shorter spells to have much greater impact, making long incantations unnecessary or extremely dangerous if used with a wand. (For example "Expelliarmus" being more effective than summoning a storm in combat)

    I feel like the use of magic without wands is a cool idea. No need to worry about expeliarmus!

    On another note, staffs are really cool and I wish they used them more in the books. We really only see Mad-Eye Moody use one in book 5. And yes, I do know they are for handicapped or very old wizards/witches but I still think they are cool.

    I think it is interesting how different types of magic are taught at the different schools, such as gesture magic. I think it is very wise for wizards to learn wandless magic, in case of emergency. It is thought to be more difficult, and I don't know if Hogwarts students are ever taught how to cast those spells. I still prefer wands though , (especially after having a wand choose me at Olivanders in Universal).

    The use of a wand puts at the risk of being defenseless, unarmed(unless you are a great wizard )
    But if you can perform magic with your hands then no matter what you can do something in your defense

    There's some suggestion that Dumbledore was also skilled in magic by gesture alone. I would consider it something that ALL wizards should be capable of; as they develop in experience & power.

    I have read many comments about that topic. My conclusion is: You can perform as well as with a wand. It just is about the skill a wizard has with wandless magic. Some say you can only do the simplest magic wandless, which is not quite true, because Voldemort was able to conjure fiendfire wandless. Obviously he is in the Top 3 of most skilled wizards in HP Universe, but thats not the point. Uagadou students perform self-transfiguration effortlessly wandless at very young age.They are trained in wandless magic from the beginning.
    Now a little crossover: Have you read Eragon? I know their magic is a bit different to HP Universe, but you can compare it in some sections. They can perform magic with the usage of words of the "old language". Certain words of this language will cause certin things to happen. However, that was invented to make magic more controllable. You could apply all that magic by only thinking the words. The words are spoken out of one reason. By thinking those words (or spells, curses, jinxes etc. in HP universe) you can easily get distracted by other thoughts, which is why it takes such a high level of self-discipline and skill (maybe, maybe is because the students of uagadou are good at it, but nt everyone has a skill level like Albus or Tom or Gellert)
    In my opinion, I would ever decide to use wandless magic, if I had enough self discipline. You are less predictable. And you will be a threat to anyone that duels you. Ever thought of the possibility Uagadou students are highly skilled in occlumency and legilimency?? I´d put in a great effort if I was gfted as them. Thatwould be a real threat t any of my opponents, I could do anything wandless what they are capable of with a wand anyway.

    Magic through the use of hand gestures? pretty cool, kind of how magic works in D&D games, though perhaps not quite as powerful as wand magic due to a wand working as a focus or something, amplifying the effects of spells, would probably take a lot more practice though.

    i think Hogwarts students should learn non wand magic it would provide an alternative for when disarmed or wand less. I have grinderwald Dumbledore mcgonagal and Voldemort doing magic without wands. i think pencils could be used as wands in a muggle world. i think the reason they are not used is pencils are not very good for channelling magic or it has been kept quiet because if everyone knew about it it would put wand makers out of business. i think wands are only used to channel magic so some thing else could be used (like an umbrella)
