What if the figures of Merlin, Arthur and Morgana are meant to correspond to the golden trio, Harry(Merlin), Ron (Arthur), Hermoine(Morganna). Not that they are connected, but are inspired from them.
Wow. I'm over 40 years, and have heard many versions of the legend, but I've never made the connection that the "Isle of Avalon" just means "island of apples". I learned something new today.
There is this tv-show called Merlin and I absolutely love the Morgana in it. She start off as the good Morgana but towards the end she turns in to the evil version of herself, but they actually give her a reason to to be evil. I really recommend the show to those who are interested in Merlin, Arthur or anything to do with them. Amazing show 😇
I learned about, and loved Morgaine le Fae in The Mists of Avalon, by Margaret Zimmer Bradley. In the book she is both Arthur's greatest ally, then his greatest enemy.
I think it's a very interesting observation that Morgana was good at Healing crafts. It's often understood that those who can heal, also have the duality to harm or rather, if you can give restore life, you also know how to take it. Morgana could very well be a misunderstood or misdirected witch. So powerful but as she stood for something that wasn't a popular opinion, she was labeled as evil. It was sort of played out that way when she first discovered she was Fae in Merlin the BBC series, whereby her intent was to stand up for the Fae but she slowly went darker.
In lots of fandom, healers are some of the most knowledgeable of the dark arts as they have to know them to combat and heal the after affects, injuries and curses left from dark magic.
My preferred Image of Morgana is the one we got in the Merlin-Series, where Sir John Hurt voiced the Dragon. Also I'm pretty interested in how Morgana is going to be further portrayed in "Cursed - the chosen one"
She needs to come back and wage war of the magic and human worlds. She has such great villian potential in this universe. I keep hoping one day JK will do more with her.
I remember in a story when, Morgana and Merlin did a friendly duel and Merlin made it clear that turning into a dragon is cheating and seeing that she is gonna lose, she turned into one anyway which is cool. But Merlin turned into a virus or some micro organism to infect her. Okay, this was a kid's version of the story. But transforming into a dragon is not an easy feat.
Morgana is such an interesting character of folklore, even because of the effects her fame had on other folklores. For example, here in Italy, she is the villain of many folktales and legends, often acting as a matriarch to other fairies, like in Prezzemolina.
It is also said that Morgana magically disguised herself as Queen Guinevere, her sister-in-law and Arthur's wife so she could lay with him, get pregnant without knowing who it was really...he was sharing his bed with. With that she gave birth to Mordred who Arthur never knew was his son and nephew but would earn a place among the round table till one day he kills Arthur, becoming infamously as the traitorous Black Knight. I guess u could say he was a sleeper cell agent for his mother-and-aunt.
Would be interesting if you making a video on where you think ancient witches and wizards end up compared to modern wizards and witches on a power tier list. Where does Raxidian, Ecrisdis, Merlin and Morgana fit next to Dumbledoor, Voldemort, Grindelwald and Snape to you? This could also be morphed into something like “Who was the REAL strongest witch/wizard of all time”
Snarfblatt McDoucheNozzle Eh. Voldy is up there he did fight an elder wand wielding dumbledore after all. But I generally agree that it would probably at the end of the day come down to the three you listed. Probably
@@tnntaronewsnetwork4514 Dumbledore was also mostly on the defense, if im not mistaken. I know that Voldy couldn't really get anywhere with Dumbledore in the book. As far as DARK wizards go, Tom is tops but Dumbledore has greater power, wisdom and knowledge concerning "normal" branches of wizardry.
@@tnntaronewsnetwork4514 Even with voldemort as he is, id still say that Gellert, in his prime, would give Tom a run. This is provided neither has Eldrund.
Snarfblatt McDoucheNozzle to that I would say that Voldemort hadn’t been in a real duel for a decade and a half so even if Dumbledore was holding back a bit, he wasn’t fighting prime Voldemort either. But as for top dark wizard of all time well as this video shows, Morgana certainly might have a bone to pick with Voldy for top spot. Let alone the others like Raxidian and Ecrisdis who also have their own impressive showings.
I have a feeling that if she had a wand it would be made of hawthorn similar to Draco’s original wand. Hawthorn wand owners tend to have a duality in their nature as this wand is good for both curses and healing magic. The core would have been most likely from a Phoenix feather as its has the greatest range of magic to cast both curses and healing magic and favors fiercely independent individuals who are on a spiritual quest.
When you have great healing abilities you can choose to only use them for yourself ,or you can chose to use them to help others as well and improve the world. A lot of the dark magic users will only use them for selfish purposes. Maybe the concept is you decide how you use what gifts you have, which is why some of the characters with healing abilities contradict the trope.
Morgana le Fay, and her myriad of morally ambiguous appearances, has long been a source of fascination to me. During college, I wrote fan fiction for the ABC's Once Upon a Time universe about a version of her that served as a bridge between the sides of light and dark, the only one on good terms with both the Dark One and the Charmings. She faced prejudice from birth as a child born out of wedlock and as a witch's child/a witch herself; she trained under Merlin (the first of that name) and had her first love taken from her by the Dark One when they were on the edge of death. Before the curse struck, she was training the original Merlin's great-great grandson, who had inherited the name, and had gone to be with her first love so he wouldn't be alone when the curse hit. (He had been turned into a merman as a result of his sacrifice to stay alive for Morgana, though he would no longer feel love for her or anyone else; she kept his emotional 'heart' safe in her chest, resulting in a certain emotional sensitivity that earned her the name "The Witch with Two Hearts".) Getting to hear about where certain aspects associated with Morgana's character originated, and how they have adapted and changed through the centuries, brings back memories of reading Arthurian myth as a child and Spenser's Faerie Queene as a college student.
Me as an old person: turns on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the fifth time and gets out my book Deathly Hallows My future husband: After all this time? Me in my old lady voice: Always
If you thought the story of the boy who lived was interesting, this witch has got two alignment arcs all to herself Very interesting character, indeed. We can't even figure out if she was good or not.
it's quite rich to say that Morgan is just a half sister of Arthur if you know the folklore about how the king of camelot couldn't make children with his wife, he then asked for for help with magic and so did his wife and they received a child but it was a girl, they where happy but the king wanted a son, so they did ritual again, after giving birth to Arthur the mother died, for she had run out health. the king asked his friend to take care of his daughter from the very start, but soon regretted it and is faced with his mistake.
About the bird thing, she could in theory be a Half Veela (like fleur decour) or a Veela, though it is unconfirmed whether half Veelas can turn into birds
If you watch Arther's films, Morgana hates Arther because Uther killed her father to lay with her mother. One that night she wakes up crying and screaming that her father is dead. Her mother tells her it was just a dream, but Uther turns up looking like her father, which her mother thinks is her husband. Mother tries to convince Morgana that he's her father. She doesn't believe her mother. After Uther has had his way with mum. Her husband's soliders turn up with is body.
Severus Snape is a dark wisard with powerfull power of healing too. It seem to me that for undertanding who healing a body, you have to understand why and how it breaks. Maybe Morgana does like Severus: creating a dark spell and its counterspell, making her and more imprevisible and ambiguous. This would too explain the mansion "dark and powerfull witch" but also her curing capacity. Hey, if she is the ancestor of Snape, it would be cool too.
Morgana is so freaking awesome. We can thank the show Merlin for giving her prominence in modern minds. She would be damn powerful witch the eqqual to Merlin and surpassing Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff in power and possibly classmate's with Merlin too. Morgana is the powerful witch par excellence.
I loved it !! Though surely the Morgana characterization that’s closest to my heart is ~ hands down ~ the one from the “The Mists of Avalon" novels by Marion Zimmer Bradley 🖤 she‘s wonderfully flawed, magical, powerful, intriguing and ambiguous as well (to a certain degree, of course). Actually this whole novel is a breath of fresh air in regards to the Arcturian legend because it is told by the perspective of the most important women of that time in Britain... Of course, it‘s still fantasy, but i absolutely love the amount of depth this predominantly female perspective have given us. Definitely worth checking out! I‘ve caught myself weeping reading this book wayy more times than i can count and it‘s exhilarating as hell! Also, there‘s the aspect of them being (in large measure) devotees/ priestesses of the Goddess and the Old Ways... The depiction of Pagan religion and the contrasts between pagananism and cristianity are wonderful to read and ponder. The rituals, the hierarchies, the mysteries, all of it... pheww, i guess that‘s that. ^-^
It's an interesting coincidence that you bring up Morgana in close relation to both Merlin and Arthur. I say this because the most recent installment of the Netflix Original Series, Tales of Arcadia, which is subtitled Wizards, covers the same triangle, albeit, from a nuanced perspective related to the series. In this case, Merlin is Arthur's right-hand wizard, with an apprentice named Hisardoux. Morgana is the sister of Arthur, and the two are at odds with each other, as Arthur hates magical creatures, and Morgana champions them. This results in the two eventually locked in mortal combat after Morgana gives in to the dark magic at her call.
Aside from your absolutely fascinating insights into Wizarding World lore, I really do appreciate that you seem to pronounce French names properly. (I say "seem" simply because I don't speak French, but from what I do know of the language, the way you pronounce the names _feels_ right.)
Imagine if Morgana Le Fay the most powerful witch and Merlin the most powerful wizard got together and had children. They're children would've been so powerful. That would've made for a great movie! 😁😁😍😍
A truly excellent video. You reminded me of a thing or two I’d forgotten, I’m old, and was really into this kind of stuff as a kid. But my love of magic, and such started with my 5th grade teacher (I was about 10 I guess) reading The Hobbit to our class every day. He followed that with the entire Chronicles of Narnia. Of course he worked these into the curriculum. In our school he was one of two 5th grade teachers and the class stayed in one room with that same teacher all day. After a campaign by most of our parents and most of his students he became our 6th grade teacher. He did not read Tolkien trilogy to us as we’d hoped. We read it aloud in turns and had to write about motifs and all that deeper meaning crap. We’d been duped. Lol. He was the best teacher I ever had. I moved from California to Texas the summer between the end of elementary school (6th grade) to Texas. From that point on we ran from class to class and teachers taught one subject. This was all pre-computer of course, but they still managed to put me into classes where the next one would be at the opposite end of the campus. I actually ended up running track the next year! Lol. You make some really great videos. Many thanks, And happy holidays with my very best wishes. JTI
Yes, I knew all about Morgana Le Fay because she plays a part in a novel I wrote some years ago that I hope to get published some day soon. She is also known as a Goddess of War under certain traditions. Her ability to turn into a crow is heavily mentioned in the various stories. The various movies about Merlin or King Arthur explain how she goes from good to evil. The miniseries "The Mists of Avalon" starring Juliana Maguliees is all about Morgana Le Fay. From Wikipedia The Mists of Avalon is a 2001 television miniseries based on the 1983 novel of the same title by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Produced by American cable channel TNT, adapted by Gavin Scott, and directed by Uli Edel, the series is a retelling of the Arthurian legend with an emphasis on the perspectives of Morgan le Fay and other women of the tale. The first episode was the highest-rated original movie on basic cable in the summer of 2001.[1]
Props to you for knowing how to pronounce French names and words. Other youtubers make the names simply cringy and hard to the ears when people who know the language like me hear it.
@RJ Slytherin personally taught Merlin, and I think that plays into the house’s duality of dark and light. Merlin whom was born of Demon and man, inherently born with darkness chose to pursue the light choosing to aim his relentless ambition to do good, Morgana whom was born of fae and man fell into despair and darkness. Conflicted with her own rightful claim to the throne of Camelot and her half-brother Arthur’s own mostly righteous but unstable rule. Arthur himself was probably a squib and was also probably a flawed even if ultimately good character. It’s a tragedy of the highest regard between all the characters involved.
Hey, am I the only one who realized that Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) plays Morgana Le Fay in one of the many adaptations of the story? Great video, btw👍
Her Morgan was stunning! Definitely the hottest, even though the characterisation could have been better. In terms of characterisation and acting, nobody ever beat Eva Green's Morgan, imo.
@@dancingcockroaches2400 Don't get me wrong.but the kid who would be king seemed like a really lame version of the knight of the round table.something was definitely wrong there😩😩
One thing I don’t like about the wizarding world is how they just turn a blind eye when dark wizards are going rampant they were so scared of Voldemort they wouldn’t say his name they just bent over and took what he gave obviously you have the order of the Phoenix who stood up to him but the story definitely felt like a parallel to hitler how the people let the nazis take over.
It would be interesting to explore her story. She has the ability for light and dark magic and a thought that came across my mind is, what if she was never truly evil? Just a misunderstood figure fighting for motivations that had been covered up with time.
Morgana Le Fey, might have been a witch who was trying to save Elves and other Magical Creatures, thus she tried to protect the old Magical World..... While Merlin was trying to build a New one along side the Mugles or Humans of Kamalot, thus creating the Ministry of Magic..... Don't know really, just thought it might be funny if that is why the Ministry of Magic was created.
Ṃenace Jamal she is supposedly immortal. In some legends her son is supposed to be the King who rules the world. I would argue they could hold their own but her and Merlin are the most powerful magical beings in most fantasy. Morgana could easily lead a new war similar to Voldemort’s and potentially dominate the human and magical world if that’s what JK wanted.
If she was equal to Merlin, probably not. Merlin supposedly transported the entire castle of Tintagel hundreds of miles. We never saw feats of such power from anyone, although Protego Diabolica almost razed all of Paris.
kasih saputra Elder Wand isn’t really relevant. We are specifically talking about the individual power of the person. That is merely a tool of incredible power.
Why do I have a feeling that her gender has something to do with her character switching from a Morally righteous healer to the pure evil antithesis of Merlin...
Video idea : transportation in the Wizard world and it's limits. Especially apparition, what range does it have ? It must vary with the wizards powers, but we see wizards use Muggle vehicules or Portkey to travel far distances, like Nobert on the boat, and also in the book one wizard kid mentions taking the plane to Brazil with his wizard father. So surely there must me some kind of limit, wizards cannot apparate on the surface of the moon. My personal guess is between 500-1500km on average for apparition range, with it reducing the more people you take with you.
Not to mention that Newt took the boat to New York, and a port key to France. I personally think that apparition might be limited to within the country you’re currently in, seeing how magical folks often seem to use other means of traveling to go abroad
@@ReyOfLight About hte Portkey to France it was because he was forbidden by the Ministry to leave the country. My guess is that apparition can be controlled and watched like the Floo network by area spells (like around Great Britain) when Portkeys cannot

Amazing show 😇
She was also described as being extremely beautiful, that's why she is called "le fay" which means "the fairy".
Theory: what if Merlin and Morgana were competing Slytherins?
Its possible...
Probably let's be honest
Except Morgana never attended Hogwarts, because of her royal blood and was taught by Merlin.
Funny enough, the duality of slytherin house is exhibited in Morganna, especially her connection to the sea and how she is unpredictable like the sea.
I always enjoyed the depiction of Morgana and Arthur in Mists of Avalon. It shows them as having both great virtues and flaws.
I learned about, and loved Morgaine le Fae in The Mists of Avalon, by Margaret Zimmer Bradley. In the book she is both Arthur's greatest ally, then his greatest enemy.
Same here, so glad to see someone else mention this.
I did from a tv show that came out a few years back called Merlin it portrays her as a good person gone bad and how Merlin tried to save her
Is it the one where she's played by Helena Bonham Carter? Yep guys, before becoming Bellatrix Lestrange she played as Morgan la Fey.

When I was a kid, I read everything I could find on the King Arthur legends. Yes, I knew about Morgana le Fey as Arthur's half sister.
Can you recommend some books?Im looking for some but i dont know which one is nice and worth reading

I thought he also kills Modred And they both die
That's very wrong ....
They were real siblings
Would be interesting if you making a video on where you think ancient witches and wizards end up compared to modern wizards and witches on a power tier list. Where does Raxidian, Ecrisdis, Merlin and Morgana fit next to Dumbledoor, Voldemort, Grindelwald and Snape to you?
This could also be morphed into something like “Who was the REAL strongest witch/wizard of all time”
I would say that Merlin, Morgana and Dumbledore are rivals in terms of power.
Voldemort and the others couldn't hang without a horcrux.
Morgana has always been a favorite of mine in myth and legend , its really great to know her full importance throughout history>

Morgana simply felt she deserved to be queen rather then Arthur being king
Rapes and abuse of women is enough of a reason for Morgana to want to undermine the world of men.
(He had been turned into a merman as a result of his sacrifice to stay alive for Morgana, though he would no longer feel love for her or anyone else; she kept his emotional 'heart' safe in her chest, resulting in a certain emotional sensitivity that earned her the name "The Witch with Two Hearts".)
Getting to hear about where certain aspects associated with Morgana's character originated, and how they have adapted and changed through the centuries, brings back memories of reading Arthurian myth as a child and Spenser's Faerie Queene as a college student.

She would be damn powerful witch the eqqual to Merlin and surpassing Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff in power and possibly classmate's with Merlin too. Morgana is the powerful witch par excellence.
I watched the TV show Merlin, and Morgana is definitely my favorite character.
Come on J.K. Rowling, you made 2 characters with the same name on the Merlin universe. Now you just NEED to make a cross-over series.
Morgana was the best user of healing charms.

The music in this video is amazing! It really adds to the already excellent content.
Love that Katie McGrath the best Morgana Le Fay in history (Merlin BBC)
Its a nice appetizer you have created, but the tale of Lady Morgan Le Fey is like five course meal.

From Wikipedia
The Mists of Avalon is a 2001 television miniseries based on the 1983 novel of the same title by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

Dumbledore : Merlin's descendant
Grindelwald : Morgana's descendant

Her Morgan was stunning! Definitely the hottest, even though the characterisation could have been better. In terms of characterisation and acting, nobody ever beat Eva Green's Morgan, imo.

If Morgana was the strongest witch, does Dumbledore, Grindelwald or even Voldemort have a chance of beating her?
Ṃenace Jamal she is supposedly immortal. In some legends her son is supposed to be the King who rules the world.
