Sharon's ethereal voice helped get me through a rough period of grief!
All of the songs that they have put out recently are absolute BANGERS!
I once was asked to play at a club in The Hague. Within Temptation were the headliner, and the event that followed I was supposed to open. The idea was that anybody attending the first event could stay for the second.
The event I was supposed to open was more electronic focused, but the reasoning was that Metal fans are often an open minded bunch. My live set was going to be a bit more crazy, dark, and not Techno/Drum 'n' Bass oriented anyway, so maybe some would be persuaded to stay.
So Within Temptation finished, and I roll unto the stage, even greeting Sharon, and saw about 1.000 people looking slightly confused about what comes next, as the show was supposed to be over. I start with some field recordings I made in an industrial sized ship, and faded in some brooding and dark ambient music. Within minutes the room cleared out and was reduced to about 60 people.
There was an online article reporting people talking to eachother on the phone on the stairs of the venue saying stuff like "I don't know what the hell is happening, but I am OUT of here!".
It's still the largest crowd I have ever played for, even if I play in a Metal project myself now, and seeing that amount of people clear the room that fast is still both my most horrifying and proudest moment as a live artist.
To this day I will on occasion tell the story of that time Within Temptation opened for me 🤣.
I love these guys. A fantastic band who got me through my own European tour about twelve years ago!
Such a nice coffee talk. Interesting. Thank you Ola and WT. We love WTs brilliant lyrics and excellent sound. The band have many metal styles and that is so cool. WT are one of those great bands that are remarkable live 🎸
Not even watched but I liked already 😂 Next one with Emppu of Nightwish would be awesome!!! He is my childhood guitar hero!
That would be great!
Do You (or maybe anyone who reads this :D ) remember album "Guitar Heroes" where Emppu recorded track called Ulterior Motiv? It truly shows how creative guitar player he is :) You can find it on YT.
@@michabigulak19 Yes I know these album and the song. He truly is one hell
of a guitarrist just listen to Barilari The Shadows Will Remain Behind. He played a solo battle there with Jens Johanson and realy shredded the hell out of his guitar.
I’m a big Nightwish fan and though Emppu seems so consistent, almost like he’s part of the furniture of Nightwish but I think he’s so much more then that, the backbone next to Tuomas who is the heart of the band. Besides his talent as a musician I love the way he walks around on stage during parts where hè can take a rest and checks on the band members, reassuring them, patting their shoulders etc. I sometimes see emotion on his face, once even tears. I think he’s a very empathetic person. I know he and Floor are close.
Saw these guys and girl opening for Iron Maiden in October of last year and they put on a good show! Glad you had this opportunity Ola!
Being a fan of them for such a long time, this collaboration video is definitely unexpected to me. Really gratifying to see them here!
Sharon is a vampire. Wikipedia says shes like 50 but she looks like 28
No way she's 50, man she looks good
Just what I thought. Some people are lucky :D.
The most stunning MILF in rock/metal with a million dollar smile. She's timeless!
And still making really great music….infact better music each time
Don't push it. Late 30s at best.
Very interesting episode! I love hearing about modernizing the "business" and alternative approaches to everything from music creation to marketing to gear. WT have been around for so long and it is great to hear, how open they still are to changing up their own game to keep it interesting and fresh.
I'm very happy to have "Bleed Out". I've been a fan of the band since Mother Earth and I still love everything they do. 🤘🏻🔥😊❤️
Their new sound is like an invention of a new music genre. It's heavy with elements of metal in it, while blending it with rave and trance musical influences.
Holy crap Ola! I effing LOVE Within Temptation! Thank you for getting them on!🤘🧡🤘 Rock on
Love when artists release intrumental versions of their songs/album!
Have listened as much to the instrumental versions from the Resist album as the ones with vocals.
I really enjoyed listening to Sharon explain this album, to me she is is best at putting out WT's expression of music creation Love this.
Great interview with a great band 🤘🎸. Loved the chitchat about the 8-string too. WT is setting the right direction for the music industry. Love to see them live next year 😊
So cool to hear WT in a laid back atmosphere - couldnt ask for a better location! Thanks again OLA, getting some cream interviews!!
Great interview 👍🏼 And thanks for also getting into the more technical guitar stuff with Stefan - was really interesting 🤘🏼
Didn't expect this but it was great! Bleed out is my favorite album at the moment!
I Love the set-up with the blue neon on the sides of the hesu demon cabs...Very Nice!!!
Great interview Ola!!!
Saw them for the first time live when they were touring with Evanescence. Really great band. Sharon has an amazing mesmerizing voice.
Awesome! One of my fav band WITHIN TEMPTATION
Great band, great interview... FINALLY, someone who talks more than Ola !!
Sharon's speaking voice is so different than I expected. I don't understand why I expected a higher tone... her singing influences me, I guess.
This was a fun interview... I think I need to listen to it again. Thanks, Ola.
What a great interview- great job!!!!!
Not a coffee drinker, but I already do have a ticket for the concert in Stockholm next year!
I remember going to Iron Maiden in 2008 and Within Temptation were one of the opening acts. I was perusing t-shirts when they were linechecking and I heard the guitars by themselves. I thought they sounded horrible, until their show started, and in the full mix they suddenly sounded great. That taught me a great lesson in adjusting your guitar EQ for a band mix, not a by yourself bedroom mix. I've tried telling this story to other guitar players, but you can see the cognitive dissonance take place. 'My guitar must sound great by itself and if I cannot hear it in a band then the rest is too loud or I am not loud enough.' That mentality.
That mentality is not only a guitarist thing. I wish it was. But definately more prevalent in guitarists.
I think that's why the metalzone has such a love hate relationship ppl would make it sound good in their "room" probably with a lot of bass, then they'd try to play with a band and turn up and it would sound terrible
@@Durkhead True, or they would scoop all the mids out and distortion to full. As that sounds so great at home. And a recipe for disaster in a band mix. Hmm, now I am suddenly reminded of Colin's 'ALL THE GAIN video.
That’s why a good mix engineer never listen to guitars in solo when mixing. They always eq in context of the mix. You’ll be amazed how weird guitars sound in solo on some of the best albums.
@studio22mix42 I just recently learned this about mixing guitars and I cant unhear it. Kind ruined some albums for me
I will admit I haven't listened to these guys in a while. I used to have The Silent Force in my daily lineup for probably a couple years back in the 2000s. Going to give some of their newer stuff a go. Cool to see them still chugging along.
Definitely will check them out.
Sad to say, never heard of them! And this is why I watch Ola! More music to listen to. Great interview, very cool band!
You just stumbled on a truly great one, and Sharon’s voice is stunning…hypnotic at times.
I agree making something from nothing with your own personal feel/vibration so good .
Holy shit awesome. Within Temptation's music is wonderful.
amazing guests!!!!!!!
I really miss this doom influence that they had back in their very 1st album (that i regularly listen to btw) but their other albums are very good too and it's better to follow your own tastes and needs than keeping playing what the audience wants and loose yourself into it.
Really great band, cool guys and thanks for sharing this moment with us ! 🙏
Great interview Ola I love Within Temptation 🤘🤘🆒🆒
I was hoping for this a little, as i remember Ruud was your first CWO guest.
Awesome episode!
I literally got mind-numbed at Sharon‘s artillery barrage of "yeah yeah"... literally hundreds! Was it just me and my sensible hangover? Anyways, nice talk and nice people. And Ola‘s is always Da Man :)
🤭
Yeah, yeah 🫣
Great conversation!
Within Temptation! Hell yeah!
cool to hear an older band listens to bad omens , annisokay , sleep tokens they keep up with the newer generation. love within temption and all bands mentioned.
man. Didn't see this coming! GOOD GET!!!
Hello Ola! tahnks for this video! :D
Awesome! Would love to have them on my podcast Rockland Revolution.
COFFEE WITH-IN TEMPTATION
So refreshing hearing someone else talk about AI as a tool. Its just another tool, in my case it makes me work a lot faster so i have more time designing something better.
the first time I heard WT was in 1990something in some video of Dynamo festival. And her lovely voice enchanted me from the very first time. They programed the next year to play in South America including Ecuador . I'll see you there and I hope you could play some old tunes from your first album, those seems you never play again. Sharon rules and aguante el metal sinfonico !!
Good interview with a big time band. I'm easy. The music is pleasing to my ears so I like it. Don't really care what anyone wants to classify it as.
yesssssss!!!!!!
Dude I’m first to comment!!!! I’ve never heard of Within Temptation but I will definitely be checking them out. Have a great day to all.
@@ShredDeadtbh that is my challenge. I love hardrock and metal but any grunt, scream or yell is such a turnoff. At least… make something musical. Suddenly, I can hardly find bands I like lol
Bleed out is so much darker and heavier metal than what WT has ever done before. The videos are insane. I like it, but it's almost a totally new band.
Nice!
🤘🤘
I am so intrigued by the background. Are you gonna talk about that light thing on the wall, @ola?
Great Coffee w/ :)
Ola ! 😀
Well I should listen to the album,
I wasn’t a fan before but let’s
listen if it changed for the better 🤔
Shoes 🤯
Sharon
They look as a very nice couple, I definetly look forward for their new record, and I dig a lot the shift for low tunings as well, it suit them well. It was a well conducted chat Ola!
This video magically only starts at 21:33 for me 😂🎸
Just poured my cup of donut shop ☕
Potverdorie, Hollandsch Glorie!
Any chances of a st rock AMPERIUM LIVE review
I think Within Temptation still mostly fits into the symphonic genre, just listen to Don't Pray For Me or We Go To War.
Loved them early on, got everyone into them. Then Faster came out and i hated the POP'py direction they went.. havent bothered since. Let's see if this one is better before i buy anything.
Faster put me off them as well, Hydra in 2014 felt dull and flat and did zero for me and while Resist in 2019 was bit better did little for me either but the new one Bleed Out is very good just skip the last 3 albums i do.
she is so cute!
Personally I really like listening to full albums, which doesn't seems to be the norm at my age group (24) from peoplpe I've talked to. It would be a huge loss if bands started doing singles only imo, I think the Spiritbox approach of building hype with singles and then dropping an album or EP is the best solution.
+ 1000 karma for the title.❤
No stroopwafels? Damn! 😁
I feel very ambivalent about AI. I do think that if I find out musicians are using it for writing it will perhaps make me feel their music is less authentic. I really don't know how to feel about it. At the present moment AI combined with art depresses me a bit. I don't know exactly why.
First time read title like coffin temtation...
Nessas horas que eu queria saber ingles
Take one shot every time that Sharon says “yeah”
Bring Anders Björler to coffee with ola pls
hi
never heard a song from this band
I'd recommend some of their oldies... her voice really shines the most there. The songs Angels and Memories totally made me in love
I don't think that the "stealing aspect" is the real problem with AI. Inspiration is basicly the same thing, everybody is copying everybody's work, and ideas and everything. We don't really have a choice other than accepting it. The question you should ask yourself, is it good that people know less and less about how to do stuff on their own? Because it's happening by the day. I mean, it's nothing new actually, technology is all about this, but there's got to be a point when we realize, that we can't hand over all the knowledge and capabilities to machines. We really don't need to take this into the "Skynet" conversation, or vision an apocalipse or anything, just imagine a society where the average person doesn't need to learn how to read and write because you can just dictate to your phone. The possibility for that is already there. It's unreliable, unresponsible, and basically just dumb, but people like to make it easier on themselves so much, that they don't care. That's what bugs me with AI. It speeds up the proccess.
I personally do not like the term "Artificial Intelligence", because it is kind of misleading that we are not talking about a piece of software anymore. But it is still just a piece of software. There are more precise terms like "Artificial Neural Network" which is metaphor for the mathematical description of the program flow., which was indeed inspired by biological systems. Many people tend to see the usage of these software products as giving away their personal influnce on their making, but in the end they are still fully in charge. They decide wether to let the software perform another iteration or not.
When will Marc Rizzo be a guest on here he has many wicked solos on some brutal tunes 🤘🏼📶📶📶📶🎸🎶🎵🎶🎵💫🐉🔆
Acho falta um pouco de carisma aos demais integrantes da banda Sharon fica muito a frente dos demais.
Mas eu adoro a banda.
It's not that AI is bad; it's that people are bad and will use AI for evil purposes. Sharon is exactly right. The law about AI is non-existent right now.
Jesus playing metal must solve ageing. Both look 10-20 years younger than they are.
COFFEE WITHIN TEMPTATION...OF WHAT?
This is a very awkward interview ... talking about the new sound of this band, and trying to justify it for so long. It is a fact that metal fans are traditional. I would say they're beyond traditional. They're very orthodoxed and very purists. They're new sound is definitely heavy .... but it's not really metal, nor is it symphonic rock anymore. This is Within Temptation's "Black" album ... only better.
It's some kind of heavy rave club music new invention.
I'm not knocking them, just keeping it real. Love the new sound .... but it's a fact, they're losing their identity and turning their backs on their roots, and original fans.
Many bands have done this and they lost everything.
Some bands do it and they become more successful, and even iconic.
Best wishes to this band!!
..
Sharon talks like shes got adhd........
Great band, love the music. Sadly those ppl are either warmongers or extremly naive with their political statements during live shows. It shouldn't had place.
definitely naive. They hate war and want to "help" but say and do things that only enforce it
Fuck AI, it takes away the point of art and people's jobs to make uninspired and bland art.
I, I, and after all I. You’re terrible (Muriel/Ola) 😅
The NEW album is great!!! Thanks Ola!!!
