Awesome, 👌🏾👌🏾 hehehehe, looks like you are in family today... I love Evergrey, 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 first song i heard was Toch Of a Blessing, cheers from Mozambique 🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿
11:30 you should definitely follow through with this, interesting stuff, engaging in creative tasks helps prevent Alzheimer's disease so it definitely does have a positive affect on the brain.
Well, I guess now I get to know one of the Best Bands in my life, Thanks Ola, I just found what I was in desperate need to listen, amazing songs from an amazing band
Yeah, Ola!!! Evergrey has always been one of my top favorite bands in the heavy progressive genre! And Tom you are a great human being as well with superb writing skills on guitar and lyric-wise, not to mention Henrik too man ;). Tom it would be nice to see more of you on your channel. Thanks for this interview Ola!
"There is music that you're gonna have to write to get to the music you'll put on an album." - I think that is maybe the most valuable lesson I've heard in years.
Evergrey is my favorite band of all time and it’s truly original how they combine dark metal with prog and even sort of pop 🤷🏻♂️. But no matter how you spin it, it’s Tom’s band 😂. Tom is Evergrey 🤘🏻
The worlds most underrated band full of some of the most criminally underrated musicians and my personal favourite singer! Dang man! Thanks for getting them on here and seen more!!!!! Evergrey fucking rules! 🤘😎🤘👑⚡🏆
Just found Evergrey through Pandora. Now I'm obsessed with exploring all their music. Beautiful and catchy. Each song is a journey. Please tour the USA.
I saw them in 2004 with Children of Bodom and Iced Earth. Evergrey was opening in support of The Inner Circle which dropped the day I saw them but the set was heavy on Recreation Day stuff. They played Ambassador and Michael's bass amp was turned up to 15 I swear to god. CoB were touring for Hate Crew Deathroll and it was Janne's birthday and Alexi kept dumping Jager down his throat during their set. Iced Earth were headlining in support of The Glorious Burden and did the entire Gettysburg trilogy, complete with canons, half the band dressed as union soldiers half as confederates with their guitars/drums/bass painted up as either the Union or confederate flags. Night ended with the song Iced Earth....Ripper hit that long note mid song....and held it.....and held it....and held it....and kept holding it. So long that the band one by one stopped playing and started dying with laughter. They had quite the lineup too - Richard Christy (Death/Obituary/Charred Walls of the Damned, Ripper (Winters Bane, Priest, Charred Walls of the Damned, KKs Priest), James Macdonough (Nevermore, Megadeth), Ralph Santolla (Millenium, Decide, Death, Obituary, Sebastian Bach, Jon Oliva's Pain), and the riffage god Jon Schaffer. Epic tour, classic albums, classic lineups. A Night to Remember indeed (
Didn't know you did this interview with Evergrey till just now. Evergrey is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time. Been listening to them constantly since Recreation day in 2003. :)
Tom is an amazing human and musician. In search of truth is an absolute masterpiece, and anyone who listens to it for the first time will acquire a new understanding of not only music but the human condition.
Hi Ola and Tom Little anecdote from Tom and the rest of the group. They came to Brest, France in 2005-2007. The guys are super cool, great concert and when the bar closed, we continued the evening and they ended up sleeping on the bar counter. They had drunk too much.
Love Evergrey, great band. Tom’s a great guy as well. I really enjoyed this interview Ola, and it’s superb to have ‘Coffee with Ola’ back on your channel. Nice one!🤘🏻😎
I saw Evergrey in Columbus, Ohio back in like 2003 or 2004. They were the first act supporting C.O.B. and Iced Earth. I didn't know who they were but they blew me away right from the first riff. I even got to meet them after the show. Cool guys. I've been a fan ever since.
23:00 Exactly the same thougths i have about our bass player! We use 3 different tunings Drop F#, Drop E and C# , he uses the one bass in B Standard...😅he says he pitch shifts its but idk how much 🤣
Hi Tom, I just turned 55 and was so lucky to have just heard of evergrey. Sorry I was late to the party but better late than never. I know you give dream theater lots of credit, but I don't think they could sound even close to you guys. I enjoy both bands equally. Actually I think your style has more appeal to my ears these days. Not sure if I heard true with you and your wife splitting up, if so sorry to hear. But I will say if the silent arc has anything to do you with it. Holy cow my friend you guys did an amazing job on that album. Enough said from a new fan in Ontario Canada. Thanks guys for what you create.
First heard Recreation Day and loved Evergrey after that. Banged my head to the chugging of The Great Deceiver, but then I heard End Of Your Days and really fell in love. Awesome band. Thanks for sharing the interview, Ola!
So happy to have caught Evergrey’s set at 70K Tons of Metal. I had never taken a chance on the band because I thought I knew what they would sound like and I was so wrong. They’ve quickly become one of my favorite bands. The right amount of heavy and melodic with amazing vocals and guitar playing. Truly excellent stuff.
Awesome. Tom, your voice is like nothing else. Loved you on Ayreon's 01011001 too. Good point on the expanded area in the brain for inspiration when keeping on writing. The same is true for learning new languages and learning an instrument. I hope you follow up on that and BBC Horizon picks it up. 💥 Regarding guitars, man, I have the same thing with cameras and lenses. People ask me which lenses I use all the time, but to me they're like brushes to a painter. Love that you're keeping it real. Take care and can't wait for the new album.
11:38 That is if you keep yourself busy, you have the motivation and energy to keep going. But, if you start schlacking, you lose momentum and it gets more difficult to get back to be productive/active.
Several years ago played a show with Evergrey - very much regret not watching and knowing them back then. They're in my selective vinyl-collection now; awesome vibes and great songs! Cheers to the Englunds
If their was an award for most underrated metal band in the world, it would be Evergrey. So much good heavy catchy riffs mixed with top level emotional vocals.
Evergrey is one of the bands that got me into metal in the first place back in the 90s. The chorus topic is a good one, but A Scattered Me has one of the coolest verse melodies I've heard.
I've seen their concert on the Recreation Day Tour with Pain of Salvation. What I remember the most was how incredibly close to the CD the band sounded live, including the vocals. It had almost a playback feeling.
Bloody yes! Love Evergrey and Tom! I first saw them in 2006 when they came to Australia. My girlfriend, now wife, bought us tickets for my birthday. It was a bloody brilliant show!
Thanks for this interview. Absolutely love Evergrey, and have been a fan since 2001. And I still have not been able to catch them live. They are the last band on my list of shows to see before I die. And for Evergrey fans, check out the collaboration between Tom and Vikram Shankar, called Silent Skies. One of the things that's always stood out to me, with Evergrey, is the use of piano. With Tom's warm, soulful voice it really makes them stand out. And Vikram is an incredibly talented musician that absolutely suits Tom's voice. It's a really great collaboration.
Evergrey is one of my all time favorites out there! Whenever I get to see them live, I just turn into Frankior McHappyFace and their albums are production references for me ever since 2004 🤘😁🤘
I'd never checked out Evergrey before seeing this interview, so I immediately watched a couple of the latest videos....holt shit!!! Great music, playing and singing!!
Incredible band, yet seriously underrated. With a dozen albums to work with, theyve got so much for everyone. Their earlier albums are more Gothic, atmospheric metal. Like mid 90s Paradise Lost, some Metallica , but layered with deep dark melodies and high emotion. Their recent albums are more downtuned, and utterly full of powerful songs. I cant recommend them enough.
Being from a non metal country (the Netherlands) I only discovered Evergrey in the first lockdown because all of a sudden I had all the time in the world. And oh my God, I'm a huge fan now. Can't wait to see them in September in the Netherlands. Great interview. And on the side, 😅 loved the background music. 🎶🎵
Fantastic episode! I've loved Evergrey since Recreation Day. Inner Circle is one of my favorite albums, and Monday Morning Apocalypse, in my opinion, is as close as one can get to a streamlined, hook-heavy sound while still being "progressive metal." Props to both of you for a great conversation, Englunds!
Great guy, great musician and Caparison is possibly one of the best guitar brands out there for heavy stuff. That particular red Dellinger with maple fretboard is right on top of my wish list. Evergrey is awesome, one of my all time favourite bands. Have been listening to them since The Inner Circle, which is an epic album.
Welcome Back CWO! Great interview. I heard of EVERGREY but hadn't really sat and listened. But upon previewing their last 4 albums since the interview, I can say I am especially impressed with Tom's writing progression, and his vocals! Definitely paying attention now. Adding them to Spotify! Nice way to kickoff the return of CWO!
Man I always love your interviews, just two musicians talking music and gear... Its so satisfying to both watch and hear; for me it kind of compensates the lack of such people in my life with whom I could talk about shit like that... Thanks a lot Englund 1 and Englund 2! (you decide who is who)
That was awesome! Evergrey is my favorite band. I like being able to hear the difference between Tom and Henrick’s playing. The go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Great segment Ola! Your interview skills are just fine and are getting better. You look and sound relaxed which is what I enjoy from an "interviewer". Just 2 guys chatting about music. Keep it up buddy!!
Happy to finally have these going again, look forward to more guests!
Me too! Mick Thomson/Jim Root soon?
Awesome, 👌🏾👌🏾 hehehehe, looks like you are in family today... I love Evergrey, 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 first song i heard was Toch Of a Blessing, cheers from Mozambique 🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿

Pretty awesome, keep em coming, great start with the great mr Englund, my respect!

2 Englunds, 1 coffee.

What a legend, I’m a huge Evergrey fan muhahaha

Where’s the WAP juice at? 🤟🏼
I love to watch/hear you laugh... It's the only evil laughter in the world that could make anyone happy.
I want to see a Shred video analysing his fave Evergrey song. Shred is a Legend, and Im Delighted to hear that he is a fan. Mwhahahaha. 🎸🎸👍👍
Tom is a great dude. Really enjoyed this interview
I ❤ how the acknowledged Johan, the bass player from Therion. Love that bass player.
Seeing them with the Loomis/Broderick era of Nevermore is one of those shows I didn’t realize at the time I was so fortunate to see.
Absolutely seen that in philly

Evergrey is great👏👍💯
Should add a Jam with one of the artist Songs, at the End, would love to see you Jam along with these guys man
Going to spotify to hear Evergrey right now!

I am a huge fan of Dream theater, but I love Evergrey more. :)
evergrey is just brilliant
Been listening to Evergrey since my first year of high school in 2002. Can't believe it's been 20 years already. They are the chorus kings for sure!
Tom is an amazing human and musician. In search of truth is an absolute masterpiece, and anyone who listens to it for the first time will acquire a new understanding of not only music but the human condition.

I nearly couldn't click on this video fast enough! Evergrey is one of my favorite bands who have never put out a bad album.

"lots of great guitar playing" is an understatement Mr. Englund, have been listening to Evergrey for a very long time indeed.
Loved Evergrey since I was like 13, now I'm 32 and they keep getting only better.
