A day after Christmas 2023 and I Just ordered a Ranger for my TX16S,as my old Happy Model ES24 pro TX was not wanting to update. I spent (actually wasted) a full day messing with it. But then it accidently got crushed by a large hammer and it ended falling into my recycle bin. It was a great feeling too!
I'm glad I purchased the cheapest Zorro version, instead of paying more for the ELRS version. My reasoning was that in the future, if I did indeed venture into using ELRS I would have a much better selection of products to simply snap onto the back of the Zorro, products that have more options and higher power output than the built in module on the ELRS version Zorro. Now that Radiomaster themselves have brought out these modules, I'm so happy I saved that money. These look like a great option, not just for the Zorro but for all compatible radios.
Zorro 4in1 and ELRS controllers always had exactly the same price to the last cent. If you were asked to pay higher price for ELRS version, that's a dodgy store right there. I'd never buy 4in1, absolutely no use for me. ELRS was the way to go, and when I wanted higher power output, I simply bought this nano version which is totally inexpensive. Of course, it's additional expense... but I do not use it with Zorro only, I slap it on my Tango II since it's 3 times better and higher quality controller than Zorro. That way I can still use it when flying my ELRS quads. So, no... ELRS version of Zorro was definitely not a waste of money. It costed exactly the same, $179 CAD for 4in1, $179 CAD for ELRS version. If you don't believe check Rotor Village for the pricing. And it was always like that, never changed.
pretty impressive results so far - especially the IR images and the frequency analyser spot on 13:23 Outstanding level of review - the depth and amount of points checked up to the radio heating after 30 minutes. Not sure where to go cause Zorro and TX16S need different modules as there is not really an adaptor so far. I love these displays on the back but not worth considering that I might be caught and need to get one of each. Hope the affiliate link will work for you. Just to let you know: as for know radiomaster seems to have found a way around the usual EU customs that would not allow to ship them to the EU due to missing CE certification and no LBT feature. Mine was rejected before, the full radio incl. elrs but somehow my buddy had gotten his this week via a different country so they must ship them throughhh a loophole into the EU and from there to the customers EU country cause otherwise it would end up the same way. Therefore I will try one last order this week and hope it gets throught cause each time I have to go to the customs costs me 2 hours at least driving, waiting, disusccing and fighting and driving home which is always a mess and is already a trouble maker cause usually if I have to appear it is about radio frequency and certificates and mostly those that are forbidden. Right now it looks they have find a way but not sure how long this gap might be open. Chapeau for your outstanding review.
I ordered the full ranger after your review of it! I’m sure I would have been well served by the micro but i figure I give myself some great future proofing with the big guy.
yes, I probably have to have this too, I have crossfire 915 and beta 915 and namino 2.4 but I probably also need this in my collection, the big one I have to have 👍 Bigger is better they say 😂
@Mad's Tech this is not only great review but I do like to listen youe British accent which is very nice. Thanks for great work - Micro Module bought 👍
Some people were affraid of ELRS because most reliable stuff was made by Happymodel and they know how reliable Happymodel stuff was in the past. But most people trust their RadioMaster radios so this should be an absolute game changer!
I agree with your point in full, but I’d just like to throw out there that my HM 2.4 pro module has been flawless, even though my smoothbrained-self forgot to put the antenna on it for a good 10 minutes on at least 2 occasions. Not supporting or dissuading either product - though admittedly I’d probably go for the RadioMaster today (and will if my HM ever let’s me down) - just saying, sometimes the loudest voices are those that are most unfortunate and upset. HM ELRS has been great for a lot of us, so we spend time complaining about other things in FPV. Plenty of frustrations to go around… 😂
@@abertheham to be fair, I've also had a good experience with Happymodel. My Mob6 still flying since the start of human malware in 2020 and all my current quads are on HM EP1 or EP2 controlled by Namimno module, but I went and ordered RadioMaster module with 3x RX for my 2nd TX16S 🙂
Hi sir. just want to clarify a doubt from you. Rather that buying Boxer TX internal ELRS version(140$) can i buy cc2500 version which is (100$) then buy external ELRS micro module (40$) which costs the same and gives more optional protocols at the same time. and need to know whether both internal ELRS and external micro ELRS module specs are same and acts as same or will there be any cons in perfomance?
Fantastic review, Ian! Thanks for all the testing! 😃 Sorry, I couldn't watch yesterday... Too many things at once here and I'm going to travel during the weekend, so... 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Awesome review! 👏👏What was the VSWR on the Moxon Antenna at 2440 and 2480? I did notice a lot more heat on that antenna, just wondering if the VSWR was higher than the dipole?
It’s the chipset heat creeping to the connector. You won’t feel any power form RF below a few hundred watts. I have tested it on the vna though it’s fine.
As you are UK based , could you do a video on the ELRS 100mw limit in the EU as all videos on receivers and transmitters are US centric. What's better for penitration between ELRS / Crossfire or even DJI 03 Air RX/TX at that power.
Great review as always. Question Elrs uses 2.4ghz. Here in Brazil some prison uses cellphone blocks. Where I fly has a prison nearby. For that I can't use any 2.4ghz radio I try Futaba, Spektrum, and Frsky. My radios today. But I need to move to Jeti radios. I will try 900mghz. Do tou think the Elrs will work in my case?
In your thermal shot, it looked like the Ranger Micro was in a TX16S and being powered by just the bay. Was the TX16S a MKI or MKII unit? Are you sure the lower 1W measurement wasn't due to it being starved for power? Thanks!
Can we remove UFL and RPSMA connector from micro module and replace it with UFL T antenna that comes with radio master receivers ? That way I can fit my TX16S in its box with the flexible UFL antenna. Please let me know.
I currently have a happymodel module on my Jumper T-Lite. So I have already installed the power distribution board that came with that, but I'm not sure if it would support this module. Any thoughts on this?
i have questions. i found tx16s mk2 elrs can run 500mw after adding data on hardware.html like ranger did, can you test it how stability it can after playing half hour?
I bought the Zorro and the Nano module. I can't find any information about how to set them up and get them working. The module came with zero documentation.
Question: When you attach one of these ELRS to for instance the controller beside you, does the RF circuit of the controller deactivate? Or do you have two active antennas radiating?
So Am I correct that the big ranger one actually comes with a jr and also a nano adapter, so technically it could go on a zorro if it’s not to big and you had a external power supply. Ps keep up the good work mate.😊
Radiomaster responded to him saying they must have sent him a dev product that wasn’t intended for release by mistake as it should have always hit 1watt output. That or it was just defective.
Dorky and 40 says that using an external battery to the xt30 will burn it up. Is that still a thing? I just oredered mine today then saw the video afterwards
Everything was immediately updated with V1.6 PCB. New batches absolutely have no problems. I can confirm, I purchased it two weeks ago and opened it to see it's true.

Hi Ian. Do you have any idea if RM is going to make the 900Mhz version of these modules?
I am quite suprised that they use 2 different pcbs for jr and smaller tx bay, especially after looking at nano tx.

Have you done a range test with these modules??
Will the nano fit the frsky x20 ?

The review from Oscar Liang also found that the micro module also underperformed compared to the others.
