Ps4 Peter actually looks like he’s been poorly managing his work life balance for the past 8 years while ps5 Peter looks like he just started being Spider-Man
I’m not 100% sure, but isn’t he also supposed to be an adult now in this game? The young ness in his face makes him not look so adultish, and apparently they did that so that it looks more like Tom Holland, but they don’t even have Tom Holland as the voice actor which makes no sense.

I wouldn't mind the face so much had it been there from the beginning but that's not the case, what we got is an older, more tired, more stressed, poorly groomed Peter, and that works really well in the context of the story. The new face is... adequate, but it is a loss when comparing it to what came before.
Damn this hits realizing I was probably 20 when it came out I can’t remember but I am 25 now and I will probably be 28 playing some next big game when it launches and feeling young again with nostalgia
The most offensive thing to me about the face swap is they made us CRY with the original. This had some of the most gut-wrenching moments I've ever experienced in a video game. You can't just face-swap a character we built those strong, visceral memories with and expect your players to be okay with it.
Never played this game when it came out. Really wanted to but didn't own a playstation. (F sony and their spider-man monopoly) Just now beat it on PC. I can say that the story beats and dramatic moments hit just as hard. I personally much prefer the look of the remastered face after seeing the original.
@@RedShirtGuy96 basically whatever people spend more time with they grow the attachment. I never got far in the PS4 version but just beat it on PC recently and yeah, I'm attached to the Tom Holland lookalike more.

I know the differences hang primarily on the different rendering techniques of the original using baked lighting maps and the remastered relying on it's Raytracing engine, but the PS4 versions' baked lighting maps are kinda winning a little bit in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Raytracing, but I wonder if there's something to be said about the balance between the two methods?
thing is with baked lighting is that it's more work for the developers. Although RTX is being spun for the consumer as something that'll make your game look amazing, the difference between RTX and rasterization is indistinguishable in most AAA titles. The real reason raytracing is nice is because it makes it easier on the developers.
I think it's more a case that the original lighitng was first designed with baked lighting in mind, but when they decided to use Raytracing instead, they didn't know how to reproduce the same result due to a lack of experience. Raytracing is still pretty new, afterall, while baked lighting has been the industry standard since the late 90s.
Look at the guys face at 3:38....wtf happened there? It looks like actual pudding on the PS5, on the PS4 Pro his face has depth, wrinkles, shows emotion. So bizarre. The lighting is also way more natural on the PS4 Pro and the contrast and colors look better, its way too over saturated on the PS5.

I think if they just made ps5 Peter’s eyes look a bit more “tired” and added laugh lines to his face to make him look a bit older, people wouldn’t be so jarred by the difference. PS5 Peter looks 10 years younger than PS4 and it makes it hard to believe that he’s a seasoned Spidey and wise enough to mentor Miles.

I've never played the game in person so I have no nostalgia bias. I cant be the only one who prefers the look of the PS4 game, right? As someone who only ever really saw anything to do with this game since I played it on it's PC release the fact that people can prefer the old peter model is amazing. He looks like a mix of a child, Ron Pearlman and a Mike Myer's Mask.
Yeah ray tracing looks better when you play the game, but cutscenes suffer HARD because lightning for each scene is no longer as dramatic as it was before. Plus Peter's new "just deepfake it" face ruins every cutscene it's in lol

When I played spider man 2 I was much more engaged with Miles than Peter, Miles was the same character I saw on SM1 and and his own game, I knew what he went through, but Peter, I couldn't connect with him in the second game as much as I did in the first and I think the face swap is the reason
I think that some of the lighting looks better in the PS4 version actually. The colors look a lot more similar to an actual city I would be walking through
0:24 The lighting on various objects is very realistic and the light passing through glass is also done well but few things from the ps 4 version are better like the lighting outside in the city😅
On ps5 you can enable or disable ray tracing. If you want higher fps, ray tracing has to be off. Lower fps allows ray tracing like this. This has ray tracing on. They changed the time of day to show off ray tracing. Because ps5 has it while ps4 doesnt. But i like the darker colours on ps4 like you can clearly see blue vs white vs red. On ps5 some places look so bright because of ray tracing. Like the bad guy in 3:37 on ps4 he has darker colours but on ps5 he looks so bright and shiny. Again due to ray tracing.

but look at the guy on the ps5, if you're not watching on a phone you can see the pores on his face, the light reflecting on his eyes, near-individual hairs on his beard and so many more subtle things on his face. the wrinkles are just filler for the blurrier ps4 version.

As someone who only ever really saw anything to do with this game since I played it on it's PC release the fact that people can prefer the old peter model is amazing. He looks like a mix of a child, Ron Pearlman and a Mike Myer's Mask.

When I played spider man 2 I was much more engaged with Miles than Peter, Miles was the same character I saw on SM1 and and his own game, I knew what he went through, but Peter, I couldn't connect with him in the second game as much as I did in the first and I think the face swap is the reason

Apprently they added a new time of day , and on PS4 it's set on midday while PS5 is sunrise/dawn

On ps5 you can enable or disable ray tracing. If you want higher fps, ray tracing has to be off. Lower fps allows ray tracing like this. This has ray tracing on. They changed the time of day to show off ray tracing. Because ps5 has it while ps4 doesnt. But i like the darker colours on ps4 like you can clearly see blue vs white vs red. On ps5 some places look so bright because of ray tracing. Like the bad guy in 3:37 on ps4 he has darker colours but on ps5 he looks so bright and shiny. Again due to ray tracing.
