I have a 1989 539 IMT research and read the 539 IMT was copied from the 35 Massey Ferguson but they made improvements such as when I rebuilt the Perkins Diesel engine of the 539 IMT It had two rings per piston where as the 35 Massey Ferguson has one ring per piston . Some part of the 35 Massey Ferguson will fit the 539 IMT. Both are good Tractors but the name IMT stands for "Industrial Motor Tractor" which explains they were built with improvements over the Massey Ferguson. I really like my IMT . I have a brother that has a 35 Massey Ferguson with the gas motor no power steering. My 539 IMT has power steering and a front loader with bucket and hay spear. Great little tractor will never sell it . I can't see that any of the new models will ever last as long and easily maintain as this older tractors.
