    The 35 and 35x were super tractors .. I loved driving them and the Ford Dexta. simple to drive and now I look at tractors now. I would be useless even starting one, yet alone driving one . look after that tractor Mr B. its a gem !!!!

    Because the differential lock did not release when turning at the headland, my father had a fatal accident in a canal when we lived in the Netherlands. We still use the 1963 Massey Ferguson 35X and it will always remain in the family. It is now enjoying the Canadian weather in Alberta. Nice video with humor!

      That sounds so tragic for your family. I have often forgotten to bad the brakes with newer tractors, is if it got stuck I can imagine how quickly its situation escalated.

    Brilliant video showing the difference's between the 35 and the 35x, the diff lock one is the one I hear being argued most, I do know of at least two 35x's near me that hadn't got a diff lock and were bought new by the owners, they didn't want a diff lock as the men were used working tractors without the diff lock

    One sure way to tell the 3 cylinder from the 4 cylinder is that the intake and the exhaust on the 4 cylinder are on the same side, the Perkins 3 is a "flow through" design with the intake and exhaust on opposite sides of the engine. Mine is a 4 cylinder Standard engine.

    The "N" in the prefix doesn't mean 35X engine. It's the code for Perkins 3 cylinder, so both 35 and 35X has the "N" as long as they are 3 cylinder. The most accurate way to see if it's a 35X is to look at the serial number. All tractors with serial number from no. 302413 and higher is 35X. And You're right about the diff.lock. Tractors with diff.lock has the letter "Y" behind the clutch code, and the Multi Power has the letter "W" on the plate

    I find that the 4-cylinder 23C is a better engine. It has got better characteristics. Better torque reserve I would reckon.
    It's not hard to start as long as you have a working Thermostart. Unless it is very cold in the winter. Then you might want to use an electrical block heater foe a while. There is pros and cons in everything. The 23C sooth up the engine oil quite fast, and the 3-152 will drop a liner and blow the head gasket now and then.

    • @zombieresponder
      @zombieresponder ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do not know what temperatures you are referring to when you say "cold", but I have a Lincoln SA250 welder with the Perkins D3.152 engine. It has started up with zero problems at temperatures of just under 20 Fahrenheit.
      I always wonder when people claim diesels are hard starting as to the maintenance and upkeep of the engine, as well as the condition/size of battery cables and terminals.I make my own starter and alternator cables from welding cable, and always much larger than necessary. Poor tuning, wear, etc are contributors to difficult starting, but far too often the cables are undersized or neglected and do not conduct well enough to give the starter adequate amperage.

    Love these 3cyl MFs, a 35X was the very first tractor I drove ...at the age of 6! It'd be extremely interesting with a comparison between the original British built 35 vs the IMT/ TAFE / Kenya versions. They do look very similar however I will assume there are differences below the surface?

      They are very similar. They do different ones based on the 35 and 135. There are many parts that are the same hence the availability of parts still for both tractors.

    Our 35x was fitted with the Perkins 3cyl 2-stroke engine as were all the good ferguson 35s. The Standard 4cyl was just crap!
