I think I was the jackass who suggested a more neutral background but look how well it works! Details of the painting are waaayyyy more visible and the camera works as it should. Tried your technique on some Victrix riders and I must say it is beautiful. Shadows and lights are obtained much easier, they are not as harsh as before and the time spent on a figure is cut in two even though I get better results than I previously did before. Thank you!
haha no worries, feedback is always welcome but my setup is very janky ^^; Glad to hear the technique is working for you! And if you want to still practice your layering and highlighting you can invest more time in the faces. I'll be doing a separate video as an addition to this tutorial for easy methods to spruce them up. =)

@@habsburgerdonkey5342 Those superb bronze plates and helmets. But I think you decided to paint some "newer Italians" and they didn't have bronze stuff but colorful apparel. Maybe when you will decide to go back to some "ancient" guys (cause you will, trust me >:) ) you will do a quick demo. I don't have any intention to unsubscribe your channel any time soon so noooooo pressure. AVE! :))
This is a GREAT series. I am following your technique here with an army of my own (fantasy) and getting good results. The subdued colour scheme is good to see after so much painting and washing, which is what I normally always do. Thanks for posting this HD.
