The need to register for the London congestion charge exemption is obvious when you think about it. Each £20 adds up, so if 10 million people register that's another £200 million in the bank. Add to that all the fines off people who didn't realise that you had to register - and I bet that's a very large number of people - and there's a few more million quid. Nice little earner, or as I prefer to call it, scam.

When you got that car I thought you had made a really good choice but the more I see it just seems to be one big headache, its a pity as it is such a nice looking car 🚗. I think EVs do have a place in society as a shopping/city car where you can charge them at home overnight and then do a few few miles over the next few days around town, an EV just would not work fir me and I certainly wudnt have the patience constantly looking for charging points. I live in Leeds and often have to drive down to London, so find it interesting hearing your comparisons of the A1 and M1. If I'm doing the round trip I like to take one route down and the other back, mixing it up for variety. The A1 is generally better in rush hour, although there are some bits that get snarled up, eg at Newark. It's generally a more mellow, relaxing route, and I enjoy its ancient history. It's got more character, boarded up diners included, than the soulless and boring M1! That said, there are some things about the A1 that aren't great, such as all the at-grade crossroads (you'd need to be a kamikaze to attempt turning right across two lanes of traffic speeding directly towards you at 70mph!). Plus, south of the A14, the A1 soon becomes significantly more bendy and semi-urban in places, with houses fronting onto the road at Sandy. In terms of services, you have a fair few service areas such as Colsterworth, Markham Moor and Peterborough, plus several standalone petrol stations and coffee shops. The Starbucks at Markham Moor occupies the distinctive "butterfly"-shaped building that was once upon a time a Little Chef.

I work in IT, and one of my biggest gripes is error messages that just say 'Error', without giving you any clue whatsoever about what the issue actually is. Sure, a car is an appliance, and not every user wants gory techie details, and what Porsche obviously *want* you to do is take it to a dealer who can plug in diagnostics or something, but if it's going to present you with a spinny wheel, you should at least be able to dig down into the menus or something, and get some more information about what's going on.

down completely, seconds later with the words '' Error, Error, Error,'' Flashing on
the screen, smoke started coming through the air vents,
The doors wouldn't open, The windows wouldn't go down, the man had to kick

If we really are going fully electric in 10 years or so - this needs to be fixed.
My view is - its all about profit.
Private companies aren't going to spend millions building all these charge points until they've got the customers to use them and thereby generate profit....
Building all the chargepoints now, before the millions of electric vehicles to use them are on the road, is obviously a loss making exercise.
So that leaves the government: are they going to start this huge building program?

London charges will double and treble in the next 15 years, after EVs are everywhere. As you well know, its what Governments do.. Very informative blog. Cheers mac. 😊😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇫🇷

The car's battery will last longer than the tin bits of the car. It's like asking how much would it cost to replace the car body to fit your fully working battery into.

Electric cars can cause congestion as much as ICE cars so why should they be they exempt from the charge?

@Nig ☺ Precisely. I bought a hybrid based partly on the salesman's assurance that it was exempt from the C-charge. The reality was that it qualified for 100% discount, which is not quite the same thing and which was promptly withdrawn by TfL less than a year later when they moved the goalposts. EVs and plug-in hybrids will not only congest the roads just like any other car, they will add to it by extended occupation of the parking spaces/charge points that other drivers are driving around in circles searching for. Just as well the rail workers are satisf . . . . .

To be honest Lee. Why would anyone buy an electric car when…..
    1. They cost so much
    2. If you travel any distance you can’t be sure of a charging point that works
    3. The ridiculous cost of having the adapter to charge it at home installed
    4. More electrics to go wrong
    5. Not totally environmentally friendly
    6. Always have to carry a compatible charging cable
    7. Not widely useable abroad

Surely Graham Linehan could write a comedy about this - The EV Crowd.

If you left at 5.30 how far and how long did it take, I wouldn't have waited for the Sat Nav to return just carried on if possible, however I did change from diesel to petrol at Christmas. Good luck getting any where else in that thing.

The government needs to realise that myself and a lot of other people have noticed that EVs aren't the future and therefore we will never buy one, the government really should be looking into hydrogen powered vehicle's just like Japan did as its a lot easier to install hydrogen pump's at filling station's and that way it would still only take roughly the same time to fill as a petrol/diesel vehicle does.

I wouldn't worry about battery replacement Lee as an EV battery lasts between 10-20 years and by then you would have got yourself a newer EV 😁
