As a serial renovator I thoroughly enjoy watching other people work! I know what the mystery bottle was used for. Long before the invention of steam irons, ladies used to dampen their linens and clothes down prior to ironing by sprinkling them with water and rolling them up. I used to watch my mum do this. 😆
And after sprinkling them & rolling them up, my mum put them in the fridge. Oh the fresh smell of her ironing! I will never forget that smell. RIP mum.❤
That is a testament of what a good person you are Alex, that your friends would be there for you, no matter what. What a great group of people you are surrounded with…we cried when we saw what they did to the house. Take care
It’s crazy how some renters just don’t care I always treat my rental as though I own it make sure it’s clean and tidy, lawns are kept clean and short, trim the trees bushes and weeds and keep on top of things like mildew in the decking. One day I’ll own my property and this is just practice until I do :)
Some of us renters take care of properties better than the owner so please dont put all renters in one basket!! I transformed my rental from tip to tidy as soon as I moved in as I am house proud and respectful.
Watching Mary's last ride- still makes me cry; not out of sadness, but because you honored her by thoughtfully restoring her home, then lovingly carrying her to her final resting place.
This is really bittersweet. I have fallen in love with a house I could never own. All the love and care that went into refurbishing this place twice tells me Home really is where the heart is.
I also am in love with this home, and like you Tracy, I could never afford to own it either. I pray that Mary's home will end up with someone that will love it as much as we do.
@@margaretfraser9610 I would love to do this but if I move to Canada, I would lose my medical coverage. If I became a Canadian citizen I would lose my pension. At my age this would be a disaster.

I am so sorry you had to go through this; I cried right along with you and Hans. It was so nice the day you handed the keys to the renters. I don't know anything about laws in Canada, but I sure hope you were able to sue them for the missing washer, the broken range, the missing fixtures and tiles, the cost of clean-up and trash removal, the cost of paint and repairs, and light fixtures. I find it difficult to believe they could do so much damage in such a short time. They were nasty, disgusting, filthy humans. On the bright side, you have a fabulous family and friends! What nice people.
I just discovered your channel on Friday and have probably seen about half of your posts. I am in total awe of you, your family, and your friends. Thank you for showing us that love, kindness, skill and humor still exist.
I'll say it again, they took advantage of your kindness, people who are in need generally won't speak of their problems, but those who outwardly do just want to take advantage. Reminds me of my niece and what she did to me in my own home. The positive side to all of this is the friends who came together to help you and prayerfully the people who will soon buy the house and love it into their home.
The segment with the ambulance in the funeral procession was a nice touch. I had not seen that before. I watched the original videos that you posted as the renovation was taking place. It is nice to see the whole story condensed into one video. Thanks for doing this.🙂🙃🪒🔨♥🌠🚑🙏
Hi Alex, the bottle Austin found at marker 2:28:56 was typically a beer or soda bottle fitted with a metal perforated cap/cork used to sprinkle water onto fabric to dampen it while ironing. Mary quite possibly might have also used it to dampen her clay.
I've always loved this house. Considering how much stuff was in the house you can really say they don't make houses that well any more. It held up under 9 tons. You brought together so many unique individuals to assist in restoring the house. Mary was a Canadian treasure.
I forgot about Dave and meeting Hans. The sink was truly a gem in the rough. It was returned to it's pristine glory. Patrick was a hoot. And Josh talking to himself. This was the beginning of your extended family.
It broke my heart to see what the renters did to this beautiful home. I first found your videos because of this house and became invested. I love your heart! God bless you and your family and friends. Keep the videos coming!
I got to "know" you & your lovely friends through the Potter house series, so different from all the other hoarder videos. You're such good company, honest & decent. We love you, Alex!
I am a latecomer to this series and looking at this breaks my heart! I have been renting for years (it's tough to get enough money up to buy a house in Melbourne, Australia) and I would NEVER in my life even consider leaving a house in this state. I feel for you, Alex. If I were in Canada, I would have come to help you! You have a beautiful group of friends and people around you. If all of us had just a small piece of their generosity we'd have a beautiful world!
So nice to see Dave in this video as he spent a lot of time helping you out. Hans looks so different way back from the beginning but still as lovable. Patrick the ghost made an appearance as well. This was a nice montage of the beginning of the refurbished Potter house. Josh and Jakota being introduced to us was special. I think Austin has that funky red lamp that was in the bedroom. Pickle Rick what a memorable thing and humorous as well. I learnt a lot about renovating from all the work you guys did. This was definitely a family affair and the extended Curiosity collective family as well. Nice to see what the stained faux glass panels did look like. The piano sounded good back then. Patrick has a beautiful voice, I enjoy his channel. That was such a touching memory when Mary passed and how you honoured her this made me tear up once again. It was so disappointing to see the disrespect that the renters had for the Potters house especially since you did so much to help them. Such a statement to you when you have such good friends and family that come together to give you a hand. Nanking Cherries, I have them in my yard, they make great jelly. Sunshine just a wagging her tail lightens up the mood for sure. Nice to see Ryan along with Josh and Jakota as well as Austin they are all a good bunch of guys. Zinovia is a gem as well and such a darling, we just love her. Hans is also such a character and such a hard worker. Nice to see that Mary’s house is shining once again and hopefully the people that buy it will cherish the hard work and love that was put into bringing it back to it’s glory. Thanks for the journey and sending prayers that someone will make this their home soon.
If I had rented that place the way it was when you first remodeled I would have cherished it! That was gorgeous. I wouldn’t ruin anyone’s place. You’ve done a great job the second time around! Kudos
Always a pleasure ♥️ sorry you had to renovate again. I don’t understand why people destroy what doesn’t belong to them. You and your friends did an amazing job again. Aww Dave 🙏
You just cured me of ever wanting to rent out my property. I am utterly disgusted by your previous tenants. I hope you had legal recourse, it’s a crime what they did to that beautiful home.
@@pattiwhite9575 Also, you are legally allowed to add tenant is responsible for any and all repairs. It will make them more apt to not damage the place as they wont want to pay to fix it.
As a renter myself, this is not normal, I would not be surprised if the previous tenants have some other major problems already. Judging by the old tvs and damage to walls and panels, it could well be meth.
Ah man, I remember watching you guys clean and fix up the house so seeing the condition broke my heart. My brother and sister in law went through something similar very recently. They bought an old farm house on the river, remodeled the entire house inside and out, after renting if for two years the renters had completely trashed it. I think they put in about 6K worth of repairs. I built my own home and this is exactly why I refuse to rent even as a vacation rental. I'm glad you guys got that precious house looking good again and was able to sell it.
I just came across your story. As a past renovation lady I have loved watching your story. So well done...both the work as well as all of you putting your hearts into this special house. Bless you all. I would have loved to move right in. Just not in my cards. So precious to "live" a fantasy from afar. I just too sobbed at your wonderful tribute to Mary's final journey past her beloved home. Incredible of you to bring her full circle. You all are doing Mary's angel work. And man I would like to kick the butts of those loser renters. They are disgusting to have been given such a gift but I expect that is who they are and have you always been. There's signs of abuse. Of those who lived there but to you as well. Know that there's people like me that would cherish what you had done... Then to live there?! Again you and all of your people are amazing.
I’m so gutted that they messed it up, I would have cherished such a sweet home. There is really no excuse that I could ever think of for the damage that was done. I loved the colors of the kitchen and bathroom before but totally understand about using a light neutral color to sell the home. When you took Mary past the home i cried as much as I did the first time I saw it, she was just so lovely 💜✝️ RIP sweet Mary
I am so sorry what was done to your lovely home. I wanted you to know that I watched the series when you originally fixed the house up. I saw that you carried Mary to her final resting place, some tears, but a smile for what a great guy you are.
Yes definitely was a sprinkler bottle. My mom had one for ironing when I was a kid. There was no steam irons then so you had to add the moisture to clothes prior to ironing!
Yep! You could buy only that stopper and it fit any bottle you may have around...I watched a lady use a coke bottle to get the iron to steam out heavier wrinkles...she also added a bit of starch to her water!
Alex, you are so inspirational. While you were so disappointed about how the house was left, you still saw the value in honoring Mary by re-doing it all. I admire you so much for not letting a very bad situation get in the way of doing the right thing....while limiting your bashing of those that left you this mess.
This makes me so sad 😢and I want to cry for the house and you guys😢I 🙏🏻 that God send a loving family for this home to be there forever home….so they respect the home as everyone should do where they live!!May the lord and his 😇help you put it back together even better for a Good family that loves the home🥰🫶
Alex, that is a Clothes Sprinkler bottle. Women used to sprinkle their clothes with water, roll them, put them in the crisper drawer in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight, and then take them out to Iron their clothes the next day. I watched my mother do this so many times in the early 60's. My sister inherited her Sprinkler Bottle. It was an old RC pop bottle. I was so jealous. What great memories.
And what a wonderful smell when the hot iron was applied to the sprinkled, sun-dried cloth. I remember sitting beside the tip of the ironing board while mother pressed the clothes and have never forgotten it. My grandmother (who did not have a bottle) simply took a swig of water and spread it like a fine mist through her lips. No chin dribble ever.
My mom used to do ironing for extra $$. She would sprinkle and roll as many as 20 men's dress shirts, put them on a tray in the fridge and then go to ironing for hours! And yes, there is a right way to iron a shirt 😂 anybody else remember how to do it?😊
I’m speechless……..the damage done in just 2 years is mind boggling……and when I saw they replaced that beautiful glass on the front door………………again Speechless ❤️

Keeping fingers crossed and saying a little prayer for you to get the house sold soon so you can start the work on your new house, you deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labors!
I absolutely loved this video, the pickle jar guy, Patrick’s singing, the piano playing and all the skilled workers did an excellent job creating a homey feel in a beautiful old home. When you showed what happened with the renters my stomach sank. It’s still a beautiful home and I wish you all the best in the future.

Wow, the 2nd revamp looks wonderful!
I knew it was coming, but when Mary's last ride was shown, I cried through it all again.
Me too.

Exactly. We used to do that in the 50's
And after sprinkling them & rolling them up, my mum put them in the fridge. Oh the fresh smell of her ironing! I will never forget that smell. RIP mum.❤
Odd how.folks no long know things from my youth.
@@mariek8578 My mom did the exact same. Sprinkle, roll, fridge, and after the kids were off to school, iron.
Ah. I remember.
That is a testament of what a good person you are Alex, that your friends would be there for you, no matter what. What a great group of people you are surrounded with…we cried when we saw what they did to the house. Take care
So lovely to remember Dave. x
Omg I started crying seeing Dave what a wonderful man
Oh my the end, I cried. Renters are so disrespectful, how can they be so destructive. You did a beautiful job.
@@leesasees Me too! This is my dream home but at the age of 73 with only retirement, it is out of my reach. Maybe in my next life. :-)
@@sueericson1104 Sue, I'm in your boat as well, 70 and on a fixed income. Blessings to you and may you be in good health my new friend.
@@margaretfraser9610 I would love to do this but if I move to Canada, I would lose my medical coverage. If I became a Canadian citizen I would lose my pension. At my age this would be a disaster.
Watching your videos for the first time. Watching you choose floor varnish and I was remembering my father, who was a house painter, I was choosing the semigloss and then you picked it. Yes, and I hope you enjoyed it afterwards. I am watching the renovation in order and I am enjoying your videos! Thank you for sharing.
Seeing the damage done to the house you so lovingly put back together makes me want to cry. Seeing how it is restored once aging gives hope! May God bless you!
What wonderful friends you have!!
We will NEVER rent out a house again. We had FRIENDS leave our house in a mess!
I watched the first time around. I can’t believe how much I forgot. That’s for reposting this version.
I hope this home now finds a new owner who appreciates all your blood, sweat, (and tears) ! Good luck with a sale.
A good man has good friends. That is you, Alex, and I hope someone buys the house who really loves it.
Thanks for doing this.🙂🙃🪒🔨♥🌠🚑🙏
Love this video, it affirms the Grace that flows when gentle kindness is offered.
Beautiful job, each and every one.
Hi Alex, the bottle Austin found at marker 2:28:56 was typically a beer or soda bottle fitted with a metal perforated cap/cork used to sprinkle water onto fabric to dampen it while ironing. Mary quite possibly might have also used it to dampen her clay.
Yes, i remember my mom using corked sprinkler head in a soda bottle to sprinkle bundles for ironing - no fancy steam iron. 1950's
Thank YOU! You included Patrick's singing. I was so hoping that you would.
You are amazing and your Irrepressible spirit is truly inspiring.
I was just heartbroken to see your beautiful work treated like so much trash.
The old farmhouse sink alone is worth buying the house! Love it!
His lifelong friend Jason and his wife were so kind to help out too!!
I hope so too. Get the $200 back to replace the stained glass decals and all the rest of the money for repairs. I really would sue them if I was Alex.
Yes, please sue the former tenant. I love the style of the house. After dealing with tenants just once I said no more renting!
Douglas Opferbeck This is the exception not the rule. I was a renter before buying my home and always left it cleaner than I got it most people do
Ah man, I remember watching you guys clean and fix up the house so seeing the condition broke my heart.
I hope this house becomes nice new owners. Thank you for introducing us to Mary her Art and unique life. Love.
Hans and zinovia have such a great work ethic. You all do. Such good friends.
Many changes! Kids growing up. Loosing loved ones! Hans and Zoenvia meeting up! Some good memories and sad! Thanks for the journey!
I hope you guys know this is the best video on TH-cam! Seriously a cinematic masterpiece from start to finish, what a journey! Thank you ALL
I’m so gutted that they messed it up, I would have cherished such a sweet home.
I am so in love with this house. I actually teared up when I saw how destroyed it was.
I am so sorry what was done to your lovely home. I wanted you to know that I watched the series when you originally fixed the house up. I saw that you carried Mary to her final resting place, some tears, but a smile for what a great guy you are.
The gross water bottle? Probably for shaking water onto clothing for ironing. Vague memory of my mom teaching me to use one when I was a kid.
Yes, that was used to sprinkel water on the cloths when ironing before steam irons !
You are right, my Mom used 1 like that when she did her ironing.
A sprinkler for dampening clothes before ironing. My Mom used it every week, then I had to help with the pressing.
My mom used a bottle with that type of sprinkler cork to moisten clothes when she was ironing. Old memories.
OMG, thank you! I have one of those (the aluminum and cork sprinkler) and had no clue what it was either LOL.

Even prettier than before. Excellent job everyone!!!
I had forgotten how much work you all did originally on the Potter's house😲! I love the new white and gray through out the house now, it gives the house a happy and cozy vibe! Wishing you good luck that the house sells quickly 🍀🤞

The clip where josh introduces Jakota ("my names josh and this is jacota..or whatever you think I just said") is the exact moment I thought to myself "haha! I like this guy. I'm gonna checkout his channel!)
I cannot imagine how anyone could leave a house in the condition your tenants left your house. So sorry you had this experience. I actually began to tear up during the walk through knowing all the work you had put into the original renovation. I think the new renovation turned out great! Good luck selling the property.
This is lovely. The many hands that lovingly restored this house again, thank you.
OH so glad to see that smile on your face again. The house looks even better than it did at the end of the last reno, great job! No one is alone who has friends and that's because you know how to be a friend. Keeping fingers crossed and saying a little prayer for you to get the house sold soon so you can start the work on your new house, you deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labors!
Everyone felt his pain. Some of the damage was deliberate? DAAAAMN :(
@@Pauldjreadman Yes and such a shame what some people will do, it's so disgusting!
I absolutely loved this video, the pickle jar guy, Patrick’s singing, the piano playing and all the skilled workers did an excellent job creating a homey feel in a beautiful old home. My Grandmother had a bottle like that filled with water for ironing. She would shake the water on the clothes with it.
My mother had the same, back before they started putting steam and squirters in the actual irons.
I remember she sound of Mom shaking the water on the clothes but also the smell of the iron steam when she ironed.
