Clicked on the video because I'm an antiques nerd, but ended up in tears. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and though my living space has never gotten to this level, I empathize so deeply with what this person/persons were going through. Living with mental illness makes it so easy for things to just start piling up and then the mess itself causes you stress, which then worsens the whole cycle. On one side, I'm like "how could this person let it get so bad?" but on the other, I know what it feels like to get stuck in a riptide of illness, using all the energy you have just to keep your head above water
I still have unpacked boxes from when I moved in 2 years ago. I can't unpack them because first I need to wipe down and vaccuum the floor and rugs, and reorganize my bookshelves to find space for the new/old stuff, and then find space in my closet for the other stuff...
@@lazyhomebody1356 do you also know though that if you haven’t unpacked those boxes in 2 years then you don’t have to open them at all. Just let them go. Whatever is in them - you don’t need. 🙏🏽❤️

Yes, this gave me anxiety too. Good to see others feel the same. I am currently very slowly decluttering my flat after 15 years of just buying stuff and I realize how much of a burden all these THINGS are. I love that you rescue the hoarded items before fixing the house. I am always bothered by the HGTV shows that never save anything. They shovel it all out and into the dumpster. Who knows what they have discarded.
This house is a museum. The clothes are very elegant and the furniture is beautiful... Things like this can't be found easily. The paterns, bags, shoes, fabric, suitcases. The jeans!!! So much good stuff.
Yes - get the respirator - and then, do not overlook the girlie stuff - there is value in most of it. The sewing patterns even will sell. GOOD LUCK - this is going to be fun to watch
Omg dippitty do! I am mentally scarred by that product, my Mother insisted on curling my hair using that stuff and putting rollers in when I was a child.😥
The books on sewing and tailoring! The yard after yard of unused fabric! Here patterns from the 90’s are selling for as much as $5 each, or $3 if neatly put back in the envelope. Patterns from the 60’s back can go for $25 + each.

I'm right there with you Lisa. Any chance there may be some loose papers, damaged magazines, cards etc. that would be considered trash that they might share with us? A lot of work ahead, but so exciting!
This house is my dream. If you found even 1 of those high end items in a normal hoarder house, you got lucky. Everything in this house has value. It's amazing and beautiful.
@@carolinegee4097 I obviously know that. But what people refer to as being a "hoarder" is a separate disorder, involves compulsive accumulation and occurs equally in young and healthy people as older people, lasting throughout their lives, whereas Diogenes syndrome is simply becoming overwhelmed and unable to sort things or dispose of them because of diminished capacity due to age. My aunt was a hoarder, my ex husband's father was a hoarder... It's a serious condition that significantly compromises a person's quality of life and often their safety, but the person can otherwise have their full faculties. I think lazily throwing labels around is really unhelpful and feeds the general ignorance, disrespect and contempt the public shows towards people with these conditions.

Did you watch the series from first video? I thought Alex said he sold ALL clothing, including the fur coats, to a dealer for a lump sum of $10,000. All they're doing now is taking it out and putting into their truck. There's so much, the dealer has to keep coming back for more truck loads. As a side job I clean out houses and out buildings. These hoarder houses can and do have rotten food, rats and mice and sadly pets under all of the of the stuff you want to save. You don't want to be doing this when it's 90 degrees. The best thing you can do if possible is to do it when it's colder.
She was a piano teacher, her husband passed away years before her. In earlier times this lady went on trips to Hawaii and stayed in five-star hotels there.
About 25 years ago my Mom inherited a house. Helped her clean it out. So much stuff. Found lots of money, jewelry, collectables...dead mice! It was an experience.

@@CobCeo Not really? For vintage clothing, pattern designer name, size and CONDITION is everything. This means it would be good if he gets 1$ for some of these clothes. Add to this she was obviously a crafter with an interest in sewing so some of them will be her own work - nice but not worth much. To sell them he would need to clean them and prepare them. Add to all of this dumpster fee, moving fee, storing fee, cleaning as well as pure working hour he needs to put in to empty this house. This person was not selling him a favor but a very hard job, he in no way would get 10,000 from these clothes if she was not into designer clothes and have good taste.
In my youth, I watched my relatives obsess over collecting things and realized early on how it could go bad fast as I saw their piled up houses. I swore I would never collect a single thing and I never did. No China, barely any trinkets or anything like that. It’s a bit of a relief that I never went down that road.
I’d love to see all that vintage clothing, hats and shoes all laid out for us to see. There looks like some fabulous pieces. Some of that clothing is valuable, I’m sure. Love those pink boots!
I could watch this content for days straight! I know a lot of people who love the style of needlepoint framed floral behind the bed. I hope we will learn all about the previous owners of the house, they seem so interesting!
Isn't it strange when you go through someone else's posessions? I remember emptying my grand parents' house and dividing items with the family, just packing up someone's life. That really got to me. On another note, vids like these will hopefully help to keep my hoarding tendencies at bay.
I love it when you do the hoarder homes, it always motivates me to purge my own home! We all form attachments to things and we sometimes need a perspective of what it looks like to hold onto everything!
Yes absolutely! Watching this is such a reminder to live with less because all the stuff we accumulate is just junk and someone else problem when we’re gone. I’m sure the original owner of all this stuff was attached to all of this stuff and this kind of shows how illogical that impulse can be, even at less extreme levels.
We don’t know what this person or persons were going through, or were they came from example, war were they fled or were bombed and left with nothing. Then you get older and maybe embarrassed and can’t do what you once could. Thank you to lovely lady who kept these treasures for people to enjoy now.

Josh is like me...I would get sidetracked reading letters and looking through old books.
Oh, so would I, so much to look at.
When I cleaned out my mum’s house, I had to go through every book. She had this habit of sticking money or photos into them, and I had no way of knowing which books might contain some “treasure” (honestly, I was more concerned about the family photos).
This is like my dream come true. A house full of hidden treasures and stories of the past! Love it!
It’s a lot more fun when the hoarder isn’t there anymore...
I am afraid of my parents house kinda becoming a hoarders house. So, a house like this is the manifestation of my nightmares coming true.

@@billybronc9980 That's because you have a heart not blackened by greed,. And empathy. In those days there were no computers, ebooks, Mp3 music files etc., People used book shelves for actual books and everything was stored IRL form. People that were kids during the depression kept their clothing because they grew up not having what they needed. All I heard in this video was greed, and disrespect. I love that you rescue the hoarded items before fixing the house. I am always bothered by the HGTV shows that never save anything. They shovel it all out and into the dumpster. Who knows what they have discarded.
That's always bugged me too, all those vintage items just gone
It can become a public health hazard as most cases had animals living inside, possibly decaying remains etc.
That bothers me too! Why trash everything? That is what makes me sad. Glad this show saves antiques and whatnot

This house is a museum. The clothes are very elegant and the furniture is beautiful... Things like this can't be found easily. The paterns, bags, shoes, fabric, suitcases. The jeans!!! So much good stuff.

Shockingly, the hoard seems organized compared to others I have seen. Can’t wait to see what you dig out!
Hey yo Becky! Is that you featured in the Lotto Max ad I keep getting??!?
The clothing, wow, call up a vintage store, they will be just drooling at the stuff, those pink boots are not gogo boots, they are from the disco Era.
That's because this is probably Diogenes syndrome, not hoarding
@@woudgy one of the main symtoms of diogenes syndrome is hoarding
Wow! Just remembered: Go Through EVERY purse/pockerbook/wallet. My late grandmother kept at least a $5bill in ALL the purses she used regularly.

If you don't want to go through all those clothes you need to make a deal with a vintage dealer because you are really sitting on a gold mine!
Did you watch the series from first video? I thought Alex said he sold ALL clothing, including the fur coats, to a dealer for a lump sum of $10,000. All they're doing now is taking it out and putting into their truck. There's so much, the dealer has to keep coming back for more truck loads. Luckily, he has a large warehouse in which he can store these endless boxes and bags of clothing and shoes.

Why do you always end up doing this in the winter? Don’t lose your keys in the snow again 😂😂
😂😂😂
As a side job I clean out houses and out buildings. These hoarder houses can and do have rotten food, rats and mice and sadly pets under all of the of the stuff you want to save. You don't want to be doing this when it's 90 degrees. The best thing you can do if possible is to do it when it's colder.
Winter is a long season up there🌞
Lose his keys lol
Oh I’d forgotten about that haha

I feel like I need an SCBA just to watch this.
maybe an air filtering unit to help take some of the dust out of the air?

Yes the last one was bad
While somewhat dusty, this house is not nearly as bad as Mary's house was.
interestingly, for a hoarder, this person took great effort in trying to organize it all. most is already in boxes, or protected in garment bags.
She was a piano teacher, her husband passed away years before her. In earlier times this lady went on trips to Hawaii and stayed in five-star hotels there.
This is an example of a person with OCD
Excluding the hoarde that house is cool as hell. Love all those 50's details and that front door!

Id suggest you get a case of furnace filters for that furnace, and run it on continuous to filter the air and check the filters every other day

In my youth, I watched my relatives obsess over collecting things and realized early on how it could go bad fast as I saw their piled up houses. I swore I would never collect a single thing and I never did. No China, barely any trinkets or anything like that. It’s a bit of a relief that I never went down that road.
Josh needs to keep that jacket and he needs to adress everybody as 'jive turkeys'

A Taylor and Milliner owned that house I bet. Can't wait to hear the story. My Great Aunt was a Milliner at the turn of last century.
