We don’t have too many snakes in our area, and the ones we do have are non poisonous. Our greatest threat are Mountain Lions and an occasional bear. The Mountain Lions pretty much leave humans alone as their great hunters for our abundance of Deer’s. I’ve never seen them take down an Elk and we do have Bear spray if needed. We have an old female bear who generally stays around the SE area of our property. The back of our property butts up to National Forest. I met her a couple of years ago. She was not too far from me (about 200 feet). She sat on her honches and I yelled, “Dogs, House” and ran into our back door. I don’t think our Large Dogs saw her, but they ran in the house with me. She proceeded to walk down to our upper driveway and turned to walk back up our mountain. (We own 1/4 of a mountain here in north central Washington state. We literally live in the forest and had to fall 17 Fir trees to make room for our custom built home and the drain field. We often see Elk, Deer, Wild Turkeys, some Mountain Lions and rarely Bears. Our 118# Chocolate Lab is very gentle, but he’s protective and we know that he would die protecting us. Wild animals generally don’t attack humans, but we have to remember that we’re in their territory. I always have a 357 on my side when outside around our house and carry Bear Spray.

I agree. Every time I go camping here in Texas I wake up to thousands of spiders and a few snakes.
