A very clear answer to such a question as you pose can be found in Scripture. God's Word is the Christians reference, and I have found no reason to not direct such questions to it. It's not what I believe, but what God says that matters. Reason tells me that if I wish to know God's position on a matter, His Word would be the place to start in a search for answers.
It was an uncharacteristically candid admission, huh? Avoiding questions, sidestepping, and generally being dishonest with the audience so that Jesus looks better. Neato!
Well done. I would answer that question with a story. Remember the two thieves on their crosses to the left and right of Jesus? These two men, in their own way, encapsulate all of humanity and our responses to Christ. On the one hand is a thief who questions why an all powerful being doesn’t save himself (and us!) the trouble of punishment. The existence of punishment is an offense to that theif. On the other hand is a thief who recognizes that he deserves what’s he's getting, and that Jesus doesn’t, so he asks to be remembered by the eternal being at his side. It’s quite a statement of faith, given that all of the disciples had scattered, and Jesus was seemingly defeated at that point. Logically, the whole idea would’ve been preposterous to the other thief who was singularly focused on escaping justice. The cross has always been an offense to those who are perishing. He was scolded by the other thief, “Don’t you fear God? We are getting what we deserve, but this man has done nothing wrong. Jesus, remember me when you enter into your kingdom.” The simple prayer of “remember me” harkens back a number of prayers for salvation and forgiveness among multiple Old Testament figures. We are all thieves awaiting punishment, to one degree or another. Justice must be served. How we respond to the offensive cross will determine whether we escape it.
Couldn’t one simply deny the idea, and it wouldn’t be so? After all, reality is simply the projection of how the mind perceives the universe, rather than the universe itself. So in that sense, an insane man could not be punished, since he wouldn’t be able to comprehend that he is being punished. Nor could a man who is cognitively impaired, or a man who is brain-dead. To them, there is no reality but their own.
Baptism into Christ is our crucifixion and so the thief really was taking baptism seriously and like many today ignore this command to be baptized by God

Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. The question asked was "So you're saying anyone who doesn't believe just like you is going to hell". What I heard was "I'm not going to answer the question you asked but I'm going to answer questions that I ask", the go-to tactic of politicians and sales people, "and I'm going to re-phrase things using terminology I'm happy with" (so doing something wrong is now a sin), the second most used technique of politicians and sales people. The question could have been answered with a straight yes or no. But an honest answer to that question would be unpalatable so instead it is re-phrased. As the video description mentioned. It's dodged and dressed up as an answer and received as words of wisdom by people who are already convinced. A fundamental element of most world religions is that they are the truth and therefore everyone else is wrong. Why don't you just be honest and say that? This video is really about marketing rather than truth or reason.
He probably should have just spoken the truth, the true answer is , no, you don’t have to believe like me , but believe what God says in His written word.
I am thankful for this honesty about a dishonest rhetorical trick. Note that the original question was not actually answered, but circumvented, by the oratory. (BTW If anyone else claims to be the only forgiver, does that make him / her the Only Way, too?) Now, for the record: I, too, have done wrong things. I got punished for most of them and I'm not complaining. As for the rest, I reject the idea of shoving the rightful punishment off onto any innocent person past, present or future. So the circumvention does not work, in my case. And, besides, we know what the answer to the original question is. I am glad that the presenter admitted it.
But the twisted thing is... The punishment is already paid in his poor analogy... And the victim is the judge himself! A better analogy with the judge would be for the judge to say that at the start of his career he spent a year in jail and can now pardon any and all crimes for those who wish to have their crimes pardoned... No matter how many times you commit the crime and appear before the judge. There is no punishment for doing wrong in this, if you do or don't do wrong, the same punishment has already been enacted. This is the opposite of justice and worse yet it gives blanket permission to commit whatever abhorrent deed you desire...

I was raised a Baptist. Into my 20s I was a believer. In my early 20s I made the mistake of following along with my Pastor as he gave his sermon. In my teens I had heard more than once "do not take the scripture out of context because doing so may alter it's meaning in an inaccurate way". So, as I followed along with my Pastor, week after week, I realized that he was taking the scripture out of context to bolster some view that he, or the alliance to which our congregation belonged, was espousing. After this realization, I read The Bible cover to cover, twice. I found passages in The Bible that contradicted other passages. I found instances where absolutes that I had been given were not absolutes at all, and sometimes were lies. I began to question many of the things I had been told and sought to find the answers to those questions. I was left to finally conclude the there is no God, that there may not even have been a Jesus Christ, and that religion was just another hoax to help some people accrue power and wealth. Having been raised a Baptist, by parents that were Sunday School teachers, I am conditioned to believe. So, to all of you believers, prove to me that there is a God. Don't waste my time with your claims of faith, or your assertions of intelligent design. Don't wave your Bible in my face. All of that will just reinforce my opinion. What you have to do is to pull out your cellphone, give God a call, and schedule an appointment between the three of us. I have a lot of questions, the first will be "why did He or She choose to be a deadbeat parent and abandon His or Her children?". Get back to me when you have scheduled this appointment. If you can't do so then keep your worship of an imaginary super-friend to yourself.
Jeff, your confusion of the Bible or the so called contradictions can be solved when you rightly divide the scriptures, the whole Bible is truth, but you have to separate Israel and the Body of Christ truths. Unless you're willing to learn, I won't waste your time, because this knowledge doesn't come overnight.
@@faithplusnothing sorry but no they can't. There are multiple real contradictions that only can be resolved by realizing they are contradictions and the bible is not now and never has been, perfect.
@@samanthaq3422 Hi Samantha, I will expound more, but a quick summary is.. God has two separate programs, one envolves Israel which are God's earthly people and the other is the Gentile Body of Christ which are God's heavenly people. There is alot to learn, and I'm not sure I can explain it all on this forum, but I would love to share more if you're interested.
Don't confuse realizing the bible is a whole mess of contradictions with denying the intelligence that is behind the creation of the universe. One can, and should, reject ALL of the so-called "revealed" religions without rejecting God--in whatever form fits with the reality of the universe as it is.
The reason why hell is eternal is because man rejects the eternal remedy. If I have terminal cancer and someone offers me the cure, and I reject that cure, only suffering and death await me. Christ gave Himself unto death as a cure for the 2nd death. If I reject Him, there is nothing left to save me from the 2nd death.
It's ironic because going off of the biblical story. Hell is something that god supposedly created. And sin came about entirely by this god's doing. A poor parent, leaving a knife with ignorant children in the garden. Any decent parent would have known better. So going off of that, the whole situation was this god's fault, and somehow we are hellbound if we don't accept a cure for the disease that it gave us? It's nonsense
@apersonontheinternet8354 hell was created for the devil and his angels. Adam and Eve made their choice.and had to face consequences. We all make our choices and face the consequences. And yet God makes a way for redemption. And men complain about it....

I will solve the puzzle for you. There's no eternal Hell. To know it you just need to read what is in Revelation 20: 14 Then Death and Hades, hell, were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second [d]death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. The meaning is the lake of fire is called the second death. No more worrying about an eternal Hell.
I take my dogs to the dog park everyday (not raining). Today I saw a 9 month old dog at his first day in the park. He was apprehensive of what was going on and cautious of other dogs and people. But after a few minutes he ventured out to see other dogs and people and he went from cautious and apprehensive to happy. So I thought that God put people in this universe and we are like this pup coming to a dog park for the first time. We are apprehensive and cautious but God means for us to be happy and God gave us the rules to live by to be happy.
Who do you mean, then, @James Harvard ? And how happy did Exodus 21:20 make people? Also, what by default happened to many gay people in Christendom, after Matthew 5:18? Also, per Romans 9:12 and 8:30, who is the 'us' you actually mean? And how many. Is it an open ended list, or predestinated, instead? And just ask a Spanish Jew in the 1500s whether they should be apprehensive or not, sometimes, too?
Eh, idk. Life is pretty painful and not really happy at all, for some people. I think the point is to be a good person in spite of that. To use the negativity of the world to push you harder to be a good person. To turn the other cheek toward someone who does you wrong, to eat a loss and not cheat someone else, to get somewhere last and not cut in front. Make a sacrifice of yourself once a day and you will be on the right track.
Wow, beautiful analogy! I once saw a story on the internet of a dog that was beaten and starved to death. Poor thing, but I guess that's what happens when you don't venture out enough. 100% deserved.
So, if you've ever done anything wrong, no matter how trivial, you have to burn in hell forever if you don't believe in Jesus. But if you do believe, no matter how heinous your past deeds, you're home free.
You misunderstand many things it appears but let me address one of them at least. Just believing In Jesus isn't what quickens you It's being born again that makes the difference. The devil believes and trembles before Jesus But being born again wipes the slate clean and God casts your sins over His right shoulder into the sea of forgetfulness it says. So belief must turn into a desire to be made new, whole again except this time your birth is not according to man or the flesh, it is according to Gods Holy Spirit who does this operation of faith. Ye must be born again, not of the flesh but of the spirit. That is how your home free.
Those who seek forgiveness know they are sinners, that's why their sins will "be forgiven" in Jesus and their lives will be "changed" by the Holy Spirit. Paul's letters are full of the new vs old life and admonishes the new believers to stay on track and not throw away their salvation by falling back into their old lives. The Gospel is beautiful to those that accept it. The freedom is amazing.
They are only forgiven if they repent of their sins and change their lifestyle etc so it conforms with Jesus' teachings and Gods will. A simple sorry etc is NOT enough for them to be forgiven. God and Jesus know what is in your heart. If love is not present or a desire to be a good person living in obeyance of their guidance then they will not forgive you of your sins. Many religions fail to teach this. Many say go to confession say a few hail Marys' etc and your sins are forgiven. NOT so. You must be truly sorry for your sins, commit to doing what is right in the future and demonstrate this in your day to day life to be forgiven. Pretense does not count.
Well my frien? You rehabilitate morally a person, that jumped off a sky scraper, & half alive? I punish some one, who is against people, and send people into war. He - ey? He didn't do anything wro - ong? Nah? But the moral decision was HIS! !!
At around the 2 minute mark (first time seeing this video btw) when you were talking to the Jewish man about why he needs Jesus and he already believes in God, my IMMEDIATE thought was, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
But aren't the Jewish people the chosen people by God?? "“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people of his own possession, out of all the nations that are on the face of the earth” (Deut. 14:2). Am I to believe that the Jewish people, because they don't recognize Jesus, will not come to the Father (heaven)?? They worshiped God for centuries before the Christians.......
@@chiloandchepo Ah, sorry....but Jesus was a Jew. And on the cross, he forgave the Jews for what they did....remember?? There is no basis in the scripture for the argument that the entire Jewish people were responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. "And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled. (Acts 3:17-18)" "For truly there were gathered together in this city against thy holy servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever thy hand and thy plan had predestined to take place. (Acts 4:27-28)" Luke clearly distinguishes between the Jews in Jerusalem/Judea and those elsewhere. The former are held responsible for Jesus' death but not the latter, as is shown by the change from second (chaps. 2-7) to third (chaps. 10-13) person? The speeches to the Gentiles (chaps. 14, 17) contain no references to the death of Jesus.
The Bible was assembled in the late 300's and the early 400's and it was the Latin Vulgate. The word Hell was created in 705 in Germany and it means a hidden place. We called them root cellars in the US. In the Middle ages many people put food to preserve the food so they would not starve and yes they put the food in Hell. So so idiot decided to use Dante's Inferno to rule over people in the middle ages. Jesus made it clear that we should not fear the man who kills the body but not the soul, rather you should fear HIM (aka GOD) can consume the body and soul in the Gehenna fire (not Gehenna hell). Yes it is consumed body and soul and is instantaneous not burning forever.

@@morbidclash Truth is being in accord to reality. That leaves out the Bible since it is collection of books of stories plagiarized for centuries of thousands of years and virtually all is authors are ANONYMOUS. There is zero evidence the biblical god is real. There isn’t any contemporary evidence Jesus even existed. Sadly, that doesn’t stop christians from deliberately lying and living in delusion.
I have grown such that I don't even get into these types of things, because my experience has shown me that they go no where and have no conclusion. I believe what I do and don't have to justify it, and I give the individual the same liberty. A Christian's responsibility is two-fold: Strive to let Christ live out His through them and proclaim, not debate. After you have done the latter, you have planted a seed and that's it. If God wants it watered, it will be and He will give the increase. If they won't hear you, Jesus said shake the dust off of your feet. The way he comes across is that he is concerned about looking bad in man's eyes. Dr. Chopra's question, in my opinion, made him shift his attention from God/The Bible to himself. Tell him what The Bible says and leave it, and he can take it or leave it.
Yeah. Unfortunately if someone identifies as an atheist they are usually beyond help. I will still get into debates because A. It’s helpful in strengthening my faith. B. It may be helpful to those who are reading the debate who are not yet lost.
Doc, we all have our own individual walk, so if debating strengthens your faith, so be it. I understand your point it helping those listening. I am assuming that you mean relative to hell when you say lost, because they are already lost. Remember that Jesus said that he came to seek and save that which was lost. So we were born lost.
I agree. I love apologetics, but if someone's heart isn't receptive to God's Word then no amount of debating or attempting to reason them will have an effect. We can plant the seed, but God is the one that ultimately waters it. I came to the Lord when I was at rock bottom after living in a way that broke a few of the 10 commandments. You know what made me want to turn away from sin? God's love and stern warnings throughout the scriptures that said how I had lived was wrong.
1. Define morality(realistically the conversation ends here because you can’t define morality. You can define what is ethical, what is right, but you can’t define morality. That’s a personal question) 2. Yes 3. I do not agree because you haven’t defined morality. Morality according to who’s standards?
Actually 'ethos' (greek) is semantically synonym for 'mores' (latin, plural for mos). Cicero in his contemplations on free will (De Fato) translated Aristotles greek 'ethos' into 'mores'. They both mean 'character'. So ethics and morality are quite the same. Some however try and make a difference by stating that ethics is the study of morals. Imo a personal view and I don't adhere to that. Both are correct when describing the 'character' of one's behaviour to others. Imo, ethos and mores are 'expected' (oughts) behaviour of individuals in a society through the mechanism of intersubjectivity. Intersubjectivity can be viewed roughly as 'common sense'.
When I ask a question and the person begins by asking ME questions, I know it's an attempt to paint me into a corner from which I may not be able to extract myself from. I interrupt and say "just answer the question."
this is exactly the opposite. They can't give you definition because they DO think critically. Sin as in the bible or sin as just doing something bad, which society doesn't approve or sin as your own moral code. It's the Bible fanatics who can't think critically and take whatever is in the Bible as the only truth without asking questions. Critical thinking is all about asking questions, whether something is true or not and finding arguments to prove one or the other.

When someone commits a wrong, there is and must be an injured party. The moral debt is to the injured party. Not to a mythical entity who is supposedly in control of your soul after you die. If you want a clear conscience and an unburdened soul while you are alive, you make amends with the injured party. Or live in some way to repay the debt created. You don't rely on a mythical forgiveness that is basically a self-delusion that the injury you caused is somehow magically erased. Taking ownership of our errors and living better as a result is how we grow as human beings. Not by living in fear of an ancient myth.
Today I feel a very deep relief since I left evangelical christianity. My deconversion is a journey through all those brainwashed doctrines which really brought me deeply in truble - no more manipuliations by other people about their weird religious oppinions - that game is over.
Nice to hear that. And I cannot believe how this apologist can feel proud of his pathetic step by step questions which are supposed to manipulate a sense of guilt and fear of punishment. Any attorney will laugh at him ! Unfortunately, this manipulation over a sense of guilt is at the core of a lot of religious construct.
That should not stop any Christian in their tracks. It should stop non-Christians in their tracks. Playing make believe has no place when you are dealing with the eternal absolutes of the exclusivity of Jesus. If someone rejects the truth of Christ, then they probably already know that such rejection will neither age nor end well. Scoffers can play make believe and can pretend to be real brave and brazen against the claims of Almighty God until the moment of their death comes. Jesus speaks of those in Hell in two groups: those who are (1) weeping and wailing,* and (2) those who are gnashing their teeth. The weepers and wailers* cry in despair for eternity, while the gnashers of teeth scream obscenities against God protesting their being sent into everlasting judgment. *Not to be confused with Bob Marley and the Wailers, the best reggae group of all time.
Doesn't stop me in my tracks. I would not change anything -- because I believe that the real God knows what He is doing or not doing, and it is essential to His plan that this evil world be allowed to run it's course.

My favorite part of this is how Greg keeps misrepresenting how Chopra actually asked the question. Go watch the actual debate and you can see how calmly and nicely Deeprak Chopra asked a very different question. Don’t get me wrong Chopra is a tool, but I love how much a simple honest question got under Greg’s skin.
Do you have an justification for the claim of having a logical mind? Funny thing is, you cannot answer my question without committing a fallacy as you cannot prove logic with logic (circularity)
Admitting I did something wrong does not make me a sinner. Sin is a religious word of which I do not hold my standards or morality on to. Also, if you think people deserve to get punished for bad behavior than how can you be all for forgiveness. Should Chris Watts who killed his pregnant wife and two daughters be allowed into heaven because he "found Jesus" in prison? If I could get punished for eternity for simply not believing, and yet someone like that gets the comfy afterlife, where is the Justice or mercy?
Simple. All sin is even in God's eyes. We put rank sin not God. The whole point is accepting the truth of the gospel and receiving Jesus as your savior. All sin is forgiven. The reason for so many people going to hell is not accepting the simplicity of the gospel or in some people's view the unfair look at sin. I may have lied or cheated or stolen but I'm no killer or rapist.
If I murder someone, yet I do not accept that I did something immoral and wrong, does that negate me being a murderer? If God is the Creator of the world and Judge of all, does He have the right to forgive the penalty for humanity’s sin against Him?
If I had a nickel for every time I heard the argument for Christianity I’d be more wealthy than the therapists who have people come to untangle the mess that the interpreters have caused.
There is no argument, the Gospel is a message, accept it or reject it. But be sure, God is just and keeps His promises both for heaven and hell. You can say you do not believe in God, but that does not change anything, for his word is good, and He will perform.
Sometimes we only have a few seconds to talk to people so here we go: a perfect God requires absolute perfection in his followers, which means none of us can achieve this. But God will give you heaven and perfection for free, all you have to do is accept the gift. The gift is Jesus.

I'm genuinely curious what your response would be to this answer of the first question: "do you think people who commit moral crimes aught to be punished?" Yes. But just because I think they should be punished, doesn't mean they will be. Many people get away with their crimes unpunished
You have a good question. By the way I'm on board with Koukl (just so you know where I am coming from). One of the huge points of the Bible is that God is omniscient. A holy God. A just God. A true God. A perfect God ... MUST punish all bad/crimes/sin. While people here on earth cannot prove certain things or lack the means of enforcing some earthly justice, the God who is also omnipotent can and does when that person dies, exits the body and faces Him in eternity (if their sins are somehow not removed or taken out of the way ... they are taken out of the way by the sinner repenting of their sin (repentance toward God) and believing in His Son (faith in our Lord Jesus Chrish), whom he set forth as a perfect offering, the only one that can truly satisfy His Holiness and absorb His wrath). At the risk of seeming to show off (or seem intellectual), I would like to challenge you with a very deep thought. Have you heard of FM radio? FM = frequency modulation. That's where some baseband signal (e.g. a recording of a voice or live voice) that is limited to say, 10 Khz range, is modulated and put on a high frequency carrier. Let's say 78 MHz, which is easily transmitted via a manageably sized antenna. The original voice frequency range would require an antenna the size of the Empire State building (transmit and receive). That's one of the reasons someone invented FM. Using a 78 MHz pure sine wave at the receiver, the FM can be de-modulated and the original voice signal recovered. Voila, you have transmitted someone's voice from here in the world to there, with very little delay! So what does that have to do with anything? Many men commit sins and then "hide" those sins on a high frequency carrier, let's say 89.21483007892 MHz. To prove what they did, first you have to know what frequency they put their sins on. You have to know it EXACLY (in the purest mathematical sense, in reality there is some tolerance). Then you need the right demodulation scheme to recover and see what exactly they did. In the book of Revelation, the Scripture says that those who are not found in Christ will stand at a White Throne judgement seat, where all their sins will become obvious in light of Gods total and absolute perfection. White Light. The imagery is purity, clarity, perfection. Do you know what makes white light? True white light consists of light at ALL frequencies, including 89.21483007892 MHz. Demodulation at the exact carrier frequency will be performed, their sin recovered and presented back to them. They will know they are guilty and they will know they have been caught. They will know that their judgment is just. They will have done things they never wanted anyone else to do to them. But they were perfectly willing to dish it out, hide it and let other people bear the brunt. God, in mercy, pleading with man to be reconciled to Himself, has made the perfect offering in Christ. He has made a way for sins to be taken out of the way and to face Him as Savior, not as Judge.
I would first ask what do you mean by moral crimes? Also, you are correct people get away with crimes unpunished all the time but if the God if the Bible is true then they are only getting away from their crimes for a short period. We are alive for a maximum of 120 years most will die well before their 90s. We are dead for a really really long time. It is in this dead time that their crimes will be paid for. The question is who is going to pay for it?
@@jamesstumpff7774 Is it possibly because they did not understand the gift, or see it as free? Heck you cannot even get all Abrahamic believers to agree on the same definition of Mossiach, or what he'd be expected to do. Not much precedent of the title meaning a divine god-man, for one. All bad deeds against the Almighty ETERNAL creator do, and that is why he wrote the bible for us, sent his prophets and apostles and Jesus to inform us of how things actually work, not the manipulation tactics that weak and pitiful limited man tries to spin things to their own destruction and shipwreck.
The debate shouldn't be seen as sticking it to your opponent, but as a way to bridge understanding between you and them. If you're a Christian who doesn't want to look stupid or who wants to stick it to some atheist who thinks they know better than you, your head is in the wrong place. Whether you debate a Muslim or a Jew or a Buddhist or an atheist, you should always keep in your mind that at then end of the conversation you want to call them brother or sister and no to push them away out of vanity. The Bible has the answers, if it didn't it wouldn't have spread all over the world and stuck. People have questioned the Bible since its conception and they always should because it needs to stand up to scrutiny. With that said, this is a good way of handling it. When blunt questions are asked like this the questioner almost always wants a blunt answer intentionally. They don't want a follow up, they just want "yes if you don't believe in Jesus Christ you're going to hell" and nothing more. It's meant to shame you rather than engage with you, but when you have the opportunity to engage and to delve deeper and explain that we are human beings and we have done wrongs and because we've done wrong we deserve punishment as punishment is apart of justice, but that God in choosing to die at our hands and telling us we are forgiven is payment for our sins from then on, it becomes a bigger a deal. If you know of Christ and know that he died for the forgiveness of sins, how can you refute God? To refute him and to say I don't believe is to not want God and hell is punishment because it is a place without God. Now if one were to say "I'm not convinced" I would still say that there is reason to examine the bible further and examine the points of doubt, because there are answers out there, you just have to look
You're wong. "some atheist who thinks they know better" is not the case. Unlike Christians, atheists don't care about unanswered questions as unlike any religion, science and common sense answer them one by one. There are millions of things that used to be explained as God's punishment and now turned out to be absolutely natural and explainable. Nobody will ever provide an evidence a guy called Jesus didn't live in that place during that time as that would mean saying there was no John Smith living in London in 2005. Unfortunately, all the rest is mythology and it's totally unnecessary if you just want to be a good person living a good life. Willingness to do good things to others must be much stronger motivation than the fear of going to hell and it that's not the case for someone, he has serious issues.

So, what I heard is that instead of answering the question "Unless you believe in Jesus, you will burn in Hell." You evaded answering the question to avoid becoming a stereotype. You asked your interlocutor if they believe in Justice for crimes, and then asked if they had done bad things themselves; continuing to evade the original question. Then you created a scenario where there was a Judge willing to pardon his crimes by taking the Punishment him/herself (an obvious metaphor for Jesus' sacrifice). Don't you think that this is a slippery slope? Now the Criminal can Murder, Rape, Molest, steal, etc. etc. because he/she knows that your god is going to forgive them so long as he/she believes that Jesus will do so. In India, they do all kind of foul and cheating evangelism, In other words God is encouraging sin by this 2. If my punishments to sins are forgiven, I will keep repeating those sins and I will get addicted to those sins and after I go to heaven I will keep on doing those sins in heaven, Then God will send me to hell? 3. If Jesus can only forgive one's sins, what will happen to all billions of people who died before Jesus died on the cross? Where they will be put? Hell? 4. What will all believers who are forgiven for sins, but love to continue to do sins will do after they go to heaven? They will do all kinds of sins in heaven. Then it will be chaos there.

People do bad things to other people all the time. However, you need to define how bad these bad things are. If someone causes sufficient harm to another person or to other people on a regular bases, then that person who causes harm needs to be removed from society. It does not mean that it is OK to mistreat the person who has caused harm. A person who is not a Christian harms no one, not even themselves.
@@homophilosofikus8215 I wonder if you'll ever get a reply from Pat? I'm genuinely curious what he (or she) thinks about that statement, as I would've said pretty much the same thing you did. It really bothers me when "evangelists" give answers like that. It's no different (to me) than saying "you just HAVE TO believe!)... Thing is, I grew up to a Christian family, believed in god without question growing up, and took it upon myself to study the bible and theology for many years (make that decades, actually). In fact, I was SO into it, that everyone around me was growing a bit concerned. Anyway, to try and make a LOOOONG story short, I also studied and learned the theories of evolution, geology, etc, because I wanted to start getting those atheists to "understand" why they were "wrong"... ooops, wait a minute. All of those theories actually WORK and make perfect sense (I don't know what it was, but for some reason I was able to actually be intellectually honest with myself), and I began seeing many, MANY holes and flat out contradictions in the bible. So, I suppose what I'm sayin' (to people like Pat) is: "don't tell me I've not been bothered to 'find out', ....because boy o boy did I EVER find out! ...found out religion is BS, that is! ...and I would bet the house you don't know the first thing about how (real) science says we came to be."

That's a great question! We invite you to call in to our weekly broadcast to ask Greg your question. He'd love to hear from you. Or you can submit an #STRask or Open Mic question. Visit www.str.org/broadcast for details.
@@STRvideos naw, I’m not much into that. Many things can be explained away by knowledgeable people. I also wonder why God created hell, since we believe He created everything. Why did He just destroy Satan and his minions rather than creating a place (hell) which could be used to keep people in line out of fear?
Only God knows the answer, but here's my opinion: Why did He create sociopaths? For that matter, why did He create psychopaths, serial killers, puppy kickers, etc, etc, etc..... because God uses all things to give Him glory. Without seeing and knowing the evil in the world, we wouldn't need faith, would we? Everything would be perfect, and we would thank God and love Him without choosing to love Him...... but there's the other predicament. He gave us free will, so that we have the CHOICE to love Him. We also have the choice to sin and send ourselves to hell.
Just because you have sinned doesn't mean your going to hell. Hell is not the same as the. Lake of fire and brimstone. And the Lake of fire and brimstone wasn't created for man. It was created for Satan and his angels.
So.. Matthew Henry's commentary often emphasizes the concept of free will in interpreting biblical passages. In the context of individuals with sociopathic tendencies sir, the perspective could be that God grants humans the freedom to make choices, even if those choices lead to immoral behavior. The idea is that God's omniscience doesn't negate human responsibility for their actions. Consequently, the potential for sins leading to hell may be viewed as a consequence of individual choices rather than a predetermined design by God. This perspective aligns with the theological theme of free will present in many Christian interpretations.
Greg Koukl assumes that the answer to his question, ‘Do you think that people who commit moral crimes ought to be punished?’ is an unconditional ‘Yes’. Of course, it’s much more complicated. Firstly, there’s the question of the seriousness of the crime - not all crimes are equally serious. Secondly, there’s the question of the severity of the punishment - few crimes, if any, deserve eternal torture. So we can still, reasonably, ask: would a just, loving God condemn someone to eternal punishment, simply for a few minor misdemeanours?
That requires an understanding of what hell is, and why hell is eternal torture. Mainly, hell is existence away from God, meaning it is without any of the characteristics that God gave this world to help sustain it (Justice, Love, Beauty etc). Read the Bible regarding hell, and read what Jesus says. The chronology for nonbelievers is Death->Undeworld->Resurrection->Lake of Fire. The bible actually suggests that Death and Hell are thrown into the Lake of Fire. Perhaps that is a final destruction. For those who are willing to follow Christ, there is a different chronology. Death-> Heaven with God->Resurrection -> New Heaven and Earth.
So to answer the question, a just, loving God gave you free will, revealed himself and his wishes to you through his Son and the Apostles. His love means that if you accept Christ in your heart then he will forgo the Justice that you deserve for rebelling against God. Jesus tells you the standard for sin, harsh as it is: if you have lusted after a woman in your heart, you have committed adultery. If you have been angry with your brother, you have committed murder in your heart. We all fail to meet the standard, but God rewards even our attempts, and God rewards our faith.
More like: would a just, loving God force you to be with him in eternal life even if you don't care or want anything to do with him? We could also ask: If man loves a woman but the woman doesn't like the man... does the man force the woman to be with him? Or does he let her go because he truly loves her? God only interferes in your life if you open your door. He's knocking every day but your stubbornness keeps the door shut.
"Not all crimes are equally serious" By breaking the smallest of commandments you are guilty of transgressing against the whole Law. James 2:10 Jesus said that being angry at someone is the same as murder and calling someone a "fool" puts you in danger of hellfire. Matthew 5. Hell is not about punishing the crime, but about people's self-inflicted separation from God, out of hate. God is the source of all light, love, and joy; take that away, and what's left? Being in God's presence will feel to those who hate God like sunlight to a vampire. Still... this is self-inflicted, and "hell is locked from the inside" as C.S.Lewis wrote and I agree. Very few who are in this state will want to leave, however. They will rather be forever in darkness, sorrow, and anguish than repent before God, such is their pride.
This sounds a lot like word salad manipulation to me… when someone answers a question with a question instead of answering directly, in order to have that particular person come to their intended conclusion it’s a form of strategic gaslighting, avoidance, and emotional manipulation.
Whenever I attempt to examine Christianity and unfurl the faith to reveal warts and all, I begin to find it extremely difficult to believe or see God as anything other than incredibly evil.
I think you could gather that from the Old Testament, although God doesn’t appear to be evil, just exceptionally harsh against those that do anything wicked. The New Testament however, especially the gospels are the exact opposite. There are so many teachings and examples of Jesus trying to help those that need it, and forgiving those that have wronged you. Why such a big contrast between the two? I think it is likely that the authors of the Old Testament purposefully changed or skewed things to make it seem that if you commit sin, or are against God’s people, that you are evil and will suffer His wrath. It’s an ancient propaganda method. From the Old Testament 2 examples of this propaganda come to mind: 1). Children made fun of Elisha the prophet so he cursed them and 2 she bears came and killed 42 of the children. 2). When Lot escaped sodom with his 2 daughters, it is written that they got him drunk and slept with him because they thought there were no men left. Subsequently we read that their offspring are the Moabites. I don’t believe either of these cases actually happened. Certainly not exactly how it is written. With Elisha, it is likely a story passed down to make children learn to respect their elders. With lot and his daughters, it was a way for biblical writers to trash talk the Moabites. To me the biggest flaw that modern Christians have is an inability to recognize that Jesus can be the Son of God and savior of the world, while at the same time, certain things contained in the Bible can be false. The book wasn’t literally written by God. So we can expect errors - it’s not that hard to grasp.
Yes me too. Never ceases to amaze me, that Christians especially this type of guy who I suspect they know the game is up on religion especially as it based on faith and not factual evidence, it's origins no matter the religion pretty much come humans in caves petrified and trying to make sense and reason of why that very large yellow ball and the smaller silver one at nighttime don't fall to the ground like rocks do. @@wendymoran6759 I don't think it can be any more obvious than that. If you choose to ignore it than go ahead, it is your prerogative. Many do. If you find it offensive, I'm sorry for that.
Wendy, the answer is as follows, first, the question was not really intended as an actual question, it was intended as a trap, a stumbling block. That notwithstanding, how I believe is not the key to being right with God; thus, to the direct, verbatim question, the answer is, no, you don't need to believe exactly like me to go to heaven, be right with God, or however one thinks of that. The issue is this, you and I and all of us were irrevocably destined to be separated from our loving God, Creator and Father forever. There was absolutely nothing that could be done about that. BUT, He loved us, He loved me, He loved you; so much so that He was willing to put aside His royal rights, become one of us, and associate with our pain and suffering by suffering Himself, and even dying for us. He paid for our reconciliation, restoration and restitution. He won our war with a horrible destiny and, now, let's us enjoy the rights and privileges to be called children of the King of all kings. I think this is the greatest news ever! The real answer to the question is that God created you for relationship with Him. That's still what He wants; and He was willing to humble Himself and pay with His own life to get it. God bless you, Wendy. I'm praying your eyes are opened to the beauty of true life.
We all must be ready and equipped to defend what we believe. That’s in the Bible. If other’s can explain and defend what they believe, we should also. 🤷♀️
Why not just answer the question straightforwardly and honestly... as Jesus taught you to do? The answer is, "Yes, I believe that only Christians who accept Jesus Christ is my lord and saviour and only by believing in him will I go to heaven. All others will burn in hell for eternity". Your failure to acknowledge that truth - which is at the heart of the fundamental essence of your faith - means you are ashamed of your faith. If you can't answer a simple question without fancy arguments and other questions, there is something wrong with your moral fibre. (No, I'm not a Christian but I'd rather be an 'alleged' sinner than a hypocrite).
I think the reason many Christians have a hard time with saying this is the same reason why they come up with moral justifications for basically the entirety of Exodus 21: Because most of them, deep down inside, are good people and realize on some level that they are better than either the god they worship or the dude they've accepted as their saviour... and if they say this outright, then they have to confront the fact that it's not something they agree with... Well, unless they do, but then their position is hardly an argument in their favour and exposing them and their religion/god for the evils they are becomes very easy.
People are social animals and most of us have a strong sense of empathy. Morality doesn't come from some supernatural being, we deduce what is right and wrong by how we want to be treated. It's not complicated & that's why we learn that before preschool. Just because some people get away with doing wrong things doesn't mean we have to create a universal justice system. If someone does something wrong they're probably going to get caught, if they don't they have to live in constant fear that they will be caught eventually. Why do we need to look further than the obvious? There's no good reason to believe in anything supernatural. I won't waste my life living by a book that says that I'm going to hell for having sex before marriage and wearing different fabrics. That's just silly.
Okay so first of all if you want to know what’s sin an what isn’t then read the Bible in context(yes sex before marriage is sinful) and as an atheist that would be bad to truly live out that lifestyle because morality has to come from a creator otherwise everything is subjective meaning everything is meaningless an that’s a really sad way to think…now by looking at historical evidence and the historical proof of the Bible you can be assured that God is real..there can never be a creation without a creator
You would be a wise man if you did my brother. And yes repent and you shall be saved. Oh and you won't go to hell for having sex before marriage but because of your unbelief in the Son of God.

Bishop Barron if you are an intellectual.
The assumption from the beginning is that - Jesus is the Judge who takes his robe off; that is the crux; not that of the moral question of being a sinner. So the 'answer' of the guilt problem is that the assumption must be correct. MY question is: IF GOD can not lie; "IF" he did would it be a lie or a paradox? If Jesus is lord, does that mean he is LORD? [Gensis 15:7; cf Exodus 6:3]. Back to the assumption.

you said it!
That's a fantastic illustration, John. Thanks for sharing!

New Covenant Whole Gospel:
Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by
husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)

terminology I'm happy with" (so doing something wrong is now a sin), the second most used technique
of politicians and sales people. The question could have been answered with a straight yes or no.
But an honest answer to that question would be unpalatable so instead it is re-phrased. As the video
description mentioned. It's dodged and dressed up as an answer and received as words of wisdom by
people who are already convinced. A fundamental element of most world religions is that they are the
truth and therefore everyone else is wrong. Why don't you just be honest and say that? This video is
really about marketing rather than truth or reason.

Q: "Do you think that people who commit moral crimes ought to be punished?"
A: "Well, not really. They ought to be forgiven and changed."
Q: ?
God's words not ours.

Nobody will ever provide an evidence a guy called Jesus didn't live in that place during that time as that would mean saying there was no John Smith living in London in 2005. Unfortunately, all the rest is mythology and it's totally unnecessary if you just want to be a good person living a good life. Great tactic. However there are many a slips in the substitutionary atonement part which will attract many more questions, e.g.,
1. If I will be forgiven for my sins, because of Jesus blood, this knowledge will encourage me to do more sins and creating more Evil on earth like Christians are doing every day. In India, they do all kind of foul and cheating evangelism, In other words God is encouraging sin by this

They harm themselves if they know about Christ and couldn't be bothered to find out about his church.

It really bothers me when "evangelists" give answers like that. It's no different (to me) than saying "you just HAVE TO believe!)... Thing is, I grew up to a Christian family, believed in god without question growing up, and took it upon myself to study the bible and theology for many years (make that decades, actually). This question just now popped into my mind. Would God create people who are sociopathic (without a conscience) knowing that the sins they commit will lead them to hell?
That's a great question! We invite you to call in to our weekly broadcast to ask Greg your question. He'd love to hear from you. Or you can submit an #STRask or Open Mic question. Visit www.str.org/broadcast for details.
@@STRvideos naw, I’m not much into that. Many things can be explained away by knowledgeable people. I also wonder why God created hell, since we believe He created everything. Why did He just destroy Satan and his minions rather than creating a place (hell) which could be used to keep people in line out of fear?
Only God knows the answer, but here's my opinion:
Why did He create sociopaths?
There are no two humans that have the same belief Christians included. Just ask them to tell you what they believe.
I agree with you. These are the aspects of Christianity that I struggle to understand.
"Not all crimes are equally serious"
By breaking the smallest of commandments you are guilty of transgressing against the whole Law. James 2:10
Jesus said that being angry at someone is the same as murder and calling someone a "fool" puts you in danger of hellfire.
We live in one reality. Obviously people perceive reality differently. People have beliefs they actually think comport with reality.
Once philosophical suicide has been committed, the individual will not even comprehend the prison their mind is trapped in .
From the Old Testament 2 examples of this propaganda come to mind:
Soooo ... Still waiting for the answer to the question. Is there a Part 2?

Just because someone cannot answers a question that doesn't mean their ashamed of their faith u r lack of knowledge and not the man
I think the reason many Christians have a hard time with saying this is the same reason why they come up with moral justifications for basically the entirety of Exodus 21: Because most of them, deep down inside, are good people and realize on some level that they are better than either the god they worship or the dude they've accepted as their saviour... and if they say this outright, then they have to confront the fact that it's not something they agree with...
If you don't repent.
