Awesome, thanks for sharing! It's better to used almonds without the skin as it's full of tannin. You could place the almonds in a blender with the alcohol for 30 seconds and let it sit for the prescribed time and then strain. You'd probably get a higher yield. Dehydrate the almond pulp and use the almond flour for baking biscotti. You could do the same with the coconut.
Thanks again I'm gonna be doing these and cocoa nibs ,orange ,lemon . I'm gonna start making candied citrus peel and candied cherries its all got to be so expensive plus I like fruitcake all year long.
For the almond this will be a very mild flavour. You need to use apricot kernels. Other pits may work as well but not as strong as apricot kernels. Look up noyaux.
A way that we live cheaply is by making our own pizza dough. It costs less than a dollar to make compared to buying pizza pies for $10 & up. Cam batch makes the dough, portions out ten pizza pie doughs at a time, wraps it up and puts it in the freezer. If we want pizza, we put the dough in fridge to defrost to be ready for dinner the next day. ALSO, making our own marinara sauce. Same concept.
This is Sooooo interesting. Your extracts are beautiful. I was told I could not make Almond extract with almonds (only with apricot kernels). I will definitely give your almond extract a try. Thank you

I did what is called floral bouquet or/aka wedding bouquet extract which is citrus, almond, and vanilla...it sounds strange but it is so amazing for cakes and cookies...I save all different citrus peels and freeze them til I am ready to make my extracts...I use lemon, lime, orange, tangerine, and grapefruit ...saving the peels when we eat the fruit...it makes the most amazing citrus extract....I make the almond, vanilla, and citrus extract then mix it in equal parts...I recommend everyone this floral bouquet extract...I also made edible rose extract which is used in Greek pastry like Baklava. just use pesticide-free edible roses the hips and petals
Had to watch just one more video before bed. This is all fascinating and I love it is all organic which is so I portent to me. Thanks for teaching us how to get back to natural living with no waste. Thanks and good Night!
I have just found your channel and I like it very much. I grew up on a farm and I am learning a lot from the few shows I have watched. Thank you for teaching me some very new, helpful ways to save money.
Wondering if you’ve made anise extract. I may have missed a post, so I’ll have to look in your video files. I’d love to make some because it is so expensive. I’m Hispanic and live in New Mexico. Our state cookie is the biscochito. I prefer using anise extract instead of the seed, so making my own would save me money. Thank you for this wonderful channel and all of your wonderful videos.
I don't know if I missed it but how long does this extract last? I assume it doesn't go bad because the vodka but does it lose its flavor quality or potency?
Hi Sandi! I actually got the cinnamon stick you show at the end from Amazon for my extract. Going to try soon. I want to try orange extract too. From my wonderful orange tree, or what is left of it after the deep freeze we got here. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I had no idea you can use vodka to make your own extracts. I can’t wait to try this. So does it taste like vodka at the end or just what you added to it ?
Sandi, how long of a shelve life on these extract good for....just wondering. I can see my self making the vanilla because I use that a lot, but the others...I do not use that often. This was a amazing video and never done almond or coconut before...thank you for sharing 👍😁💗
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az But how long do you leave those in? Cos the vanilla was 2 years, but this one 6 weeks..... (also why? and what if you just leave these in longer? Will they go bad or get too strong?).
So simple! I'm definitely going to try this. Question: Why do these extracts take only 3 months before you're able to use them and vanilla takes 18 months?
Isn't the flavor of the almonds and coconut depleted of flavor after making the extract? I'd be worried about reusing the products only because of the flavor loss.
I live in Phoenix and I've been making Extracts since 1977. I still have my first batch of Vanilla Extract going. All my "Mother batches" are still active. I only do Organic & PURE Extracts. But this is not how I do mine. My Almond is never cloudy like this. I also use fresh organic coconut, not the dried kind.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az - I got my coconut from a store in the Phoenix Metro Area called AJ's, and I've seen them at Sprouts and Trader Joe's from time to time. Believe me when I say the fresh is always the way to go. I used a potato peeler and also a spoon to scrape it out like you do a pumpkin. Kinda hard to bust open though and break it into chunks. Try making MINT Extract next. It is fantastic. Use fresh organic mint. just smash on the stems [not the leaves] a little with a teaspoon, on a piece of parchment paper, and put the entire sprigs into the jar and cover it like you usually do. Use enough to take you around 3/4ths the way up your jar, but not packed in solid. Give them a little seeping room.. Remember the longer you let your batches macerate the lower the alcohol content. That is why 6 months to a year is recommended for extracts to age out properly.
Hello sweetie pie, I’m still going extract crazy 😜 , Just wanted to say hello again, Stay blessed my love stay strong, stay beautiful and stay in love with the lord with I know you Definitely will. 😂👩🏾🦲😜😍
That Vietnam cinnamon is loaded with liver toxins...and an extract of that who knows? Ceylon cinnamon has least liver toxins, while cassia cinnamon has more liver issues; but Vietnamese cinnamon, though taste the best is 60 times harder on liver than cassia, which in turn, is 20 times harder on the liver than Ceylon cinnamon. Also, the tight wound cinnamon sticks from Mexico are of the Ceylon variety, whereas the loose wound cinnamon sticks are of the cassia variety.
Being frugal and cooking abundantly is important to me as well.

Weve done our own vanilla, and we were just talking a couple hours ago about making or own almond extract.
I did the cinnamon extract and it was dynamite. Half a teaspoon in a cup of coffee is super

Good morning, Sandi!! I was wondering if I can use organic coconut chips. Please help!!! Thank you!

I've started saving empty maple syrup bottles to store my extracts. Much easier to control than a mason jar.

Have you made the lemon or orange extract? Enjoyed the Vanilla Extract planning to make when I obtain the Madagascar Vanilla Bean.
I am going to make them this winter in AZ as I can pick the citrus off the trees.

Can I use them like in spray bottles? Cuz I would like to use them to spray my room to smell beautiful
I am not sure, I wouldn't spray on fabrics as it may leave marks or be sticky.

So want to try these! Great Tutorial 🥰 Good extract is expensive, especially when you go thru vanilla the way I do, lol. God Bless!
Thank you so much 🤗
What is the shelf life on the extracts?
I don't use extracts that often it would have to last quite awhile for me.
The alcohol preserves it so really forever.
Is this merhod safe for candle making
I would love to hear the taste results 🥰

They are faster Joel, so I didn't use the wax paper.

Yes use the the flakes

When you cook with it the alcohol is basically gone, you taste the extract.

@@carollollol Different recipes, different items. I have left the almond in longer and it was fine.
What happened to the wax paper ?
I tried it with out as they are only in those jars for 6 weeks.
I thought the skin on the almonds would make them bitter and I got the blanched ones.
It doesn't seem to be bitter. Maybe it depends on the almonds.
So simple! I'm definitely going to try this. Question: Why do these extracts take only 3 months before you're able to use them and vanilla takes 18 months?
They are just different. It also depends on how much you use in the ratio.
Isn't the flavor of the almonds and coconut depleted of flavor after making the extract? I'd be worried about reusing the products only because of the flavor loss.
Esther, I will use the extract in the recipes also.
