I missed you Dave! I've always watched you since 2009 as I'm eating my dinner at work that I made myself of course. I am a Keto guy & got myself back to my high school weight. I'd love to see your take on a low carb friendly meal. Much peace & much much love all the way from across the pond in the U.S.
29 seconds into this video... I had to pause it then comment... A pleasant thought came over me ... “ this man has such a beautiful, kind soul” strange vibe he gave me considering the fact that I’m here to learn about making cinnamon extract.
Hey David, I’m 19 and I remember watching you a couple years back!, I randomly stumbled across one of your videos looking at honey chicken recipes! good to see you’re still cooking and uploading, cheers from Australia 🙂
I'm going cinnamon / vanilla & chocolate/ coffee/ hazelnut I can't wait to do the lemon anything I ever bake is never lemony enough for me. This was an awesome video thank you
LOVED the video! What a great idea. Extracts are SOOOO expensive anymore not to mention WHAT else is in the commercial ones! Thank you for this recipe!
One pot Chef I'm glad to see you and the recipe book on utube. I'm hopeful that this message finds in good spirits and health.may God bless you and your family.please take care of yourself.
So glad to hear from you again. You always have great ideas to use in the kitchen. I love cooking, and am always glad to find a new recipe or helpful kitchen tip. Thanks for this one...I also like to preserve fruit with vodka. Sometimes, I add red wine to cherries and let it sit in the fridge until I run out of wine and then I go to the jar of cherries and use the wine. Then I eat a few cherries...happy me!!!
Oh my goodness, I so love this recipe for the extracts. I will make these to use in all the recipes I have from you. So glad you feel better and so glad you are back with us. Love and blessings
I love vodka sauce for pasta. Also, dry sherry is good for cooking chicken, soups, and also for drinking. It's great to mix dry sherry and cream sherry half and half. So lovely. Please try it. I use Taylor brand, but you can choose Sheffield or Harvey's Bristol Creme sherry. Sheffield is less expensive, but Harvey's costs more. I prefer Taylor, as it is medium priced and delicious.
This gives great ideas....never thought about making my own extracts. I just found your channel last week and made the simplified Thai curry recipe.....I've tried Thai curry before with a more complicated method, but this turned out the best of any I've ever made. I love the simplicity of your meal ideas. Thank You!!!!
My Dear One: Thank you! I plan on making some Anise Extract by using Vodka, Rum, and Brandy in three separate jars with 1/4 cup anise stars in the bottom of each jar... for use in my cookies... I'm hoping to make some springerles with this... A springerle is a German cookie mostly made at Christmas time. One either loves or hates them. What about lime and tequila for, I don't know, adult drinks like a margarita... Then apple or cherry skins and some cacao in brandy... 😋😄😋 I love the idea of vodka... vanilla beans after I scrape out the meat for baking...
Dave these look amazing , i actually made Coconut extract, pineapple and glace cherries but i used Rum the havana club rum , i would love to see you make them i am sure you will love it
What a great idea. I just started with coffee, cinnamon and juniper berries (for sauerkraut). And I will certainly try vanilla for cake. Thanks a lot from Germany/Holland!
@@mucnagow2 I just got whole almonds took the brown skin off and poured vodka and shook the jars once a week and after about 3 months I found all the extracts ready to use.
Amazing recipe. I think this is so much better than using the artificial flavors, and of course you can custom made your own! Thank you for making this video!
I’ve got a bottle of vodka with 2 lemons peeled into it. It’s been resting in the freezer since 1991. Every once in a while, just take a shot, goes down so smooth. Guess I could use it as lemon extract.
I'm gonna try for Coconut extract...maybe using unsweetened frozen shredded Coconut....... Or cinnamon basil....though mine hasn't grown enough to know how it tastes...
You can also put them in a large pot of cold water, bring to a boil and boil for 10 minutes. Then let cool or remove with kitchen tongs and place on clean cloths or paper towels. This is how people use to sterile glass baby bottles when first purchased and after each use. Until they figured out just washing in hot soapy water and rinse in hot water was just fine. I don't recommend using an oven unless they are submerged in water.
That coffee extract would be great for turning a chocolate icing into mocha. I used to mix a couple spoons of brewed coffee, but this would be more convenient
I don't drink coffee only herbal tea but I love the coffee flavor. How much do you reckon I would need to add to an 8 oz cup of herbal tea to get that strong coffee flavor? PS this was a great video and you really got my wheels turning. Now I'm thinking peppermint, orange, ginger.... the possibilities really are endless! Thanks so much David
Unless you have an allergy to alcohol, don't worry about baking or cooking with homemade extracts since the alcohol cooks off at 173 degrees Fahrenheit or about 79 degrees Celsius. I bet the coffee and cinnamon are heavenly! How would you recommend we make something like almond or hazelnut extract? Should we use the whole nut or chop them up first? And roasted or raw? 🤔❤

Hi Shirley
How did you make the almond extract? Or any nut for that matter?
I was wondering if they needed to be cut/chopped/blanched?
TIA

You covered all 4 of my favorites!
Hurrah new OnePot!! Thank you!
Love this!! So happy that you are doing better!! Love your videos!
Great way to make these extracts. I don't have a dishwasher, so I guess I can use my oven to sterilise jars instead.
You can also put them in a large pot of cold water, bring to a boil and boil for 10 minutes. Then let cool or remove with kitchen tongs and place on clean cloths or paper towels.

Thanks for the video, new subscriber, cant wait to make these extracts!
Yay more one pot chef!!!! Can you make extract without vodka/alcohol? What can I do to replace?
Unfortunately, alcohol is required for making home made extracts, but then most commercially available extracts contain alcohol 👍
The alcohol evaporates when baking, frying etc.
Unless you have an allergy to alcohol, don't worry about baking or cooking with homemade extracts since the alcohol cooks off at 173 degrees Fahrenheit or about 79 degrees Celsius. It will add a negligible amount of alcohol to uncooked dishes however. But then most store bought extracts also contain alcohol, especially the ones that are not artificially flavored.
What Is Wrong With Vodka?
The flavor compounds are only soluble in alcohol. It's essential for it to work.
I bet the coffee and cinnamon are heavenly! How would you recommend we make something like almond or hazelnut extract? Should we use the whole nut or chop them up first? And roasted or raw? 🤔❤
Will try all of them except cinnamon bc I don't like cinnamon :] THANK YOU!
Fabulous tip!
Didnt even know you could do this! so cool!
Yayy thankies! Soo good ☺️
Where has this guy been all my life???
