Jimmy Mcavern had SO much potential to be higher up in terms of the all time Peaky Blinder villain GOATS. Jimmy was terrifying, a lot of the scenes where the billy boys were present it was always in a really foggy and sinister environment. I would’ve loved to see more scenes like that
I agree had a lot of potential but his accent is too poorly executed takes away fear. Every time he speaks comes across as more funny and parodical than serious and threatening.
Campbell has my vote for the best villain in the series. It's such an interesting contrast to Tommy - he sees himself as the hero of his own story who will bring the criminals to justice and get the girl, but when the inverse happens his morals drop and he becomes utterly detestable. And he was around for just the right amount of time in the show and didn't overstay his welcome. I thought Father Hughes was pretty intimidating but I feel as if his whole past with Michael wasn't told that well and was rather manufactured. Though, it might be worth giving season 3 a rewatch to see if my mind changes. Loved Mosely, but thought he could have had more to do in Season 6. Is my second favourite villain in the series.
idk man, that's a bit harsh on the series... Alfie's my favourite character, too, and he and Tommy are easily the two best written characters on the show, but to say it would be "nothing" without him? This would still be Tommy's show, and Cillian's performance would still carry the fuck out of it. It would still be a great show. Alfie just makes it even better!
One thing what bother me a lot in this series was that, alfie betrayd tommy 3 times, even killed his men and they were still friends, like wtf? Second thin was whole season 6, full of plotholes
totally agree with mosley being number 1, he was the villain i was most scared of honestly, seeing the rise of fascism was terrifying and he embodied it. obviously we know he isnt going to succeed because he didnt in real history but he still manages to make me fear his presence
I understand your points about Luca in season 4 but I have to disagree with you that there was bad writing in fact I consider it to be some of the best writing television has to offer. Luca was easily the best villain of the show in my eyes and the way Tommy defeated him I thought was absolutely brilliant writing. Luca and Tommy were both very smart but in the end Tommy was one tiny step ahead by keeping Luca occupied in England and using his weakness against him in order to take the fight right to the source. The whole plan with Author’s fake death was done perfectly making us think that the Peaky Blinders were the most vulnerable they’ve ever been until Tommy had one more trick up his sleeve. I think Lucas intimidating presence and story was done perfectly and they ended it very fittingly solidifying Luca as the best villain of the show imo
Fair enough mate. For me personally, I didn't overly enjoy his character due to what was in my opinion, sloppy writing (more about this can be seen in my season ranking video). But besides that, I still thought he was a neat character, and a great antagonist. Just not as good as the ones above him. Hope you enjoyed the video!
@@PowerHubShorts idk if I'd call it sloppy writing as much as I'd call it purposeful, Mafia men in those days ruled by power and numbers which Luca thought he had. Not understanding that Tommy could reach much farther than the streets of Birmingham, Luca had a very strong hand in his own demise based on limited knowledge of the world outside Mafioso New York. Agree with the ranking but definitely thought his tenure was masterful writing.
What I have to say about Campbell is he’s insanely good because he feels like he could take down Tommy at any moment. Something later seasons feel like it wouldn’t happen. Idk something about his presence was so powerful and anxiety inducing that I find it actually hard to watch the first two seasons because the peaky blinders feel so vulnerable. Don’t get me wrong later seasons technically they’re even more likely to die but I just think his threat is much larger than anyone elses to Tommys success I’m kinda glad they ditched the Michael plot line because he’s such a bad villain turn around in season 5 that I’m satisfied with his ending. Michael just never felt like an equal to Tommy so when it felt like they were building up to the possibility that Michael takes over the business and tbh he just doesn’t feel anywhere near as smart and charismatic as Thomas Shelby. Idk if that’s a writer problem or just a Cillian Murphy diff
I hear ya on the Luca story arc. I thought he was a great character, had a great background, and portrayed perfectly by Brody. Unfortunately, that all seemed like wasted potential with the haphazardly way his story ended.
They just tried to cram so goddamn much into that finale that there just wasn’t any time for Luca. He was contending with Jessie Eden, Tommy’s retirement, Alfie’s fake death, Michael’s expulsion, and all the Parliament stuff. A real shame, other than that I’d say season 4 was my favorite overall.
You’re right . Every scene with jack Nelson was literally gold . Especially that scene where jack ask tommy if he really believes in the cause . The way the camera quickly pans over all of them was just too cool . And the way bro stared at tommy while tommy was looking at his daughter chair accompanied with the crazy soundtrack in the background easily make him one of my favorite villains . Also don’t play with any one who is willing to serve u your balls on a silver plate 😤😤
I find Campbell to be the most interesting because while others are dangerous, Campbell was a man *corrupted* by the world he thought he can conquer. Berated constantly by his men, spurned by his love, outwitted by his enemy, yet he continued on. It's pretty rare to see a villain corrupted by the (anti)hero and it really was a fun watch seeing him fall.
The biggest problem with Luka was that instead of really flushing his character out, they tried to hard in the writing to mirror the Godfather. I honestly couldn’t stand him as a character in PB. The top 3 though, dead on mate!
I agree mate! Especially considering they werent able to pull off the interpretation that great. Either get it exactly like the godfather, or do your own spin on it yk. But yeah, those top 3 are sensational!
Luka was for sure my favorite. Italian gangsters just hit different. And watching an Italian American mobster feud with a British Gypsy gangster was such a unique dynamic
Inspector Campbell (in season 1 and 2) was easily the most hated (hence, great actor) and deserves a top 2 in my opinion alongwith Luca Changretta. Mosley would come at 3. Oswald Mosley's character is yet to play out and he hasnt yet made any grave villainous moves like the Campbell ('handled' Polly, he beat up Arthur, beat up Tommy, blew up his pub etc ) while Luca literally killed John.
Great reasonings! I simply put Oswald at the top because IMO he is the closest and 'smartest' villain Tommy has ever faced + having the most potential to actually cause change and harm (becoming the PM etc). As for Luca, my reasonings in the vid explain my view on his character, I wish we had gotten something closer to Michael/Vito Corleone etc.... as well as this, he did kill John, but Laura Mckee and the IRA killed Polly, Aberama and Barney; yet this doesn't make her a great antagonist yk. Hope you enjoyed the video!
Malacki byrne had massive potential i was disappointed he was killed off so quickly. Love the way he sits in the garrison sipping lime cordial whilst threatening tommy
Billy McCavern is based on a real life gangster called Billy Fullerton. The reason he isn't around for long is because well... he's a bit controversial in Scotland
I really enjoyed the one on one scenes between Tommy and any of the antagonists of this show. They are all good and made it a big part of why this series was so succesful.
I'd have to go Campbell number 1 and Hughes number 2. Hughes coz he's probably the most evil of the villains, while Campbell is incredibly well developed and fleshed out
The blond haired duchess was right up there. " We ate breakfast while they ate grass. I have to keep reminding you all this is serious business." And don't forget Ada's son Karl. A true psychopath in the making.
While Mosley was a potent adversary, I would rank him among the lowest villains because it felt like the writing was weak. The fact that Mosley was a real-life person with a known history hampered the script IMO. I also disliked how little we saw of what or how he did to plan or prepare, he just seemed like a know-it-all. Luca had scenes of scheming and plotting, like when he met with Polly. Likewise with Sabini and Campbell. Mosley was a horrible person, but didn't work for me in the show. Campbell is #1.
Luca is the best antagonist in my opinion, I enjoyed every second when Brody was on screen. I said to my freind season 4 really puts PEAK in Peaky Blinders.
Appreciate you saying this my friend. I have been trying to establish more videos as opposed to 'shorts' content. I also enjoy making it more, and interacting with you guys more! Hope you enjoyed the video!
I wish mccavern was expanded upon. He technically didn't lose to the peaky blinders at all. So this seemingly powerful character who the peaky blinders didn't win against just dissapears.
Yeah, it would have been nice to have closure to his arc! But as in the video, the reasonable explanation is that in real life, the gang more or less disbanded.
Same. But at the same time there’s really no point for Tommy to try and kill mccaven. aberama was dead and he was the only one that had a reason to kill mccaven.
Laura McKee used to bully Tommy, but in S6 she was basically a pathetic pawn. Tommy used her to gather Mosley and Nelson together and after that Peaky Blinders put her life to an end for Polly.
I think my top 3 is Luca third because he is really cool and made season 4 my favourite season Oswald Mosley because of how powerful and unexpected he can be at times I mean the season 6 ending I knew he was going to do something to Tommy but not that And finally major Campbell because he was throughout a huge villain for both seasons who was focused on the Peaky blinders especially Tommy and really brought the show to life and overall character development was amazing plus because Peaky blinders was still quite new really did a great introduction of Tommy being an absolute intelligent but also ruthless man
Mosley was easily number 1, this is not even a question in the slightest. He was next level powerful compared to all the other villains Tommy faced. Very high up in British parliament, massive influence, personal friends with Hitler himself, the list goes on. Tommy never really came close to taking him out, as it seemed like Mosley was always at least one step ahead. All of the other guys are way off in the distance. That being said IMO number 2 was probably Luca considering he did kill one of the Shelby brothers and almost took out Arthur too. 3 is probably Jack Nelson, although he was never really much of a villain to be honest as much as the others were albeit he was powerful. After that they’re all kinda the same in my mind.
I don’t really see Mosley as an antagonist, and even if I did, I’d never place him as high as you did.. He was clueless to his own assassination and was only stopped due to a mole working for a villain you placed at the bottom of the list, while she was the only villain to truly stop Tommy, not Mosley.. As Tommy quoted “WHAT HAPPENED, HE KNEW NOTHING”. Mosley is portrayed as sinister at first, but after they formed their partnership, he lost all appeal and threat to me, with his arc never to be fulfilled like all of Season 6’s cast, he simply left a bitter after taste in my mouth alike Jack Nelson.
Luca scared the crap outta me, when he killed John. He literally made the peaky blinders huddle together. But Father Hughes and Oswald Moseley litterally traumatised me through season 3, 5 and 6. They are interchangeable with each other as the most powerful antagonists of the series ig.
Great take, great show....Campbell for me, creepy and personal. In a show chock full of great characters the villain of the week worked, love The Duchess and Alfie.
Adrien Brody's Luca. Oh, i love his character. His performance was one the best in the whole damn series. I love the scene when tommy and luca meet for the first time. Amazing.
nice video and do you think there is any chance we could see jimmy mcavern in the peaky blinders movie? I would love to see arthur get revenge for aberama and bonnie
I hope so but my mind is telling me no. I feel if they wanted to show him, he would have been in season 6... although, he could be Mosleys last bit of muscle in the movie! here's hoping.
Ok this was ranked on the power smarts intelligence and everything about how much of a problem they were but in my opinion which I go by the plot, charachter development and acting. So here's my list 8- sabini 7- billy Kimber 6- father Hughes 5- Jack nelson 4- Mosley 3- jimmy mcavern 2- Luca changretta But number my favourite villian the best acting by a villan the best character development, plot, motives, INSPECTOR CAMPBELL! he was almost identical to tommy in the way they did business and the way they held themselves but Campbell had the best character. For example in the first couple episodes he's made out to be a very smart capable foe of tommy sent to retrieve the stolen guns (btw there would not be a show without the accidental theft of the guns) and eventually campbell takes advantage of his situation and uses tommy for his own work, AND finds the guns, He won against tommy but in season two we realise that he loved graces but she loved tommy which made him furious so he stayed to try to crumble the peaky blinders empire. We see he is a broken man always getting hookers raping polly and just being an ass and this is what eventually got him killed. His never ending hatred of the peaky blinders and especially tommy which led to him raiping polly and polly killing him. An overall perfect character in my opinion
Thomas Campbell is the right answer because he was a character which stood better in the series than most side characters that have been in the show all the time
I think the way that Jack Nelson was given less screen time was a good thing. They built up Jack Nelson as this incredibly powerful man, and so to have him in more scenes would have spoiled the anticipation and impact of his character.
In terms of all factors....originality, drive, threat (regardless of power) etc 1) Moseley (could have been way better) 2) Campbell (probably most dynamic villian) 3) Luka (strong potential then fell through 4) Hughes (didnt think he was particularly great) 5) jimmy mccaervn
1. Campbell overall just for writing and acting. 2. Father Hughes as you mentioned as a god. 3. Luka for classic villain vibes. 4. I put Mosley here honestly because I am not as big a fan of the latter season
Luca only lost to the plot. There were many occasions he could have just killed Tommy but didn't for some reason. On one occasion he even took the bullets out of his gun and just left him alive
I was fine with Luca intentionally not killing Tommy so that he could suffer more, but then he makes a deal with Polly to just, kill Tommy and spare the rest? Like at that point why not just kill Tommy when you have the chance?
Great video and it was similar to my rankings aswell. To me the priest is the best villain in the show as he was always one step ahead of Tommy and he caused the most harm to Tommy personally. That dinner scene made me literally wonder how the fuck is Tommy gonna outsmart him? And the ending too like he didn't even win. The entire family was arrested and doomed to hang and he was alone and the only reason they reunited was because Luca waged a war against the Shelby family.
For me there's no doubt, Father Hughes is one of the scariest villains ever. He was the one who really brought Tommy to his knees.
Indeed he was!
Also incredible acting... I hated him so much😂
Tommy didn't even have to kill him
Tommy got Michael to do it

I would’ve loved to have seen the mccavern story come to an end. I really wanted to see gold get vengeance, but….
Great work!!!
Oswald Mosley easily should be on No. 1.
He is a real life villain after all
💯💯
I wish mccavern was expanded upon. He technically didn't lose to the peaky blinders at all. So this seemingly powerful character who the peaky blinders didn't win against just dissapears.
Yeah, it would have been nice to have closure to his arc! But as in the video, the reasonable explanation is that in real life, the gang more or less disbanded.
Same. But at the same time there’s really no point for Tommy to try and kill mccaven. aberama was dead and he was the only one that had a reason to kill mccaven.
Michael and Finn 🔛🔝
1. Mosley
2. Hughes
3. Changretta
4. Campbell
5. Mccavern
6. Kimber
7. Nelson
8. Sabini
Great list Mate!
Totally agree with this list!
What a perfect list, exact same opinion,i only like Campbell more than father Hughes because more screen time and comedy.
Thank you my man, I reall do appreciate you saying this!
season 4 best season, alfie best villian, father H most ruthless and intimidating.
Laura McKee used to bully Tommy, but in S6 she was basically a pathetic pawn. Tommy used her to gather Mosley and Nelson together and after that Peaky Blinders put her life to an end for Polly.
I think my top 3 is
Luca third because he is really cool and made season 4 my favourite season
Oswald Mosley because of how powerful and unexpected he can be at times I mean the season 6 ending I knew he was going to do something to Tommy but not that
And finally major Campbell because he was throughout a huge villain for both seasons who was focused on the Peaky blinders especially Tommy and really brought the show to life and overall character development was amazing plus because Peaky blinders was still quite new really did a great introduction of Tommy being an absolute intelligent but also ruthless man
Great analysis thomas! I agree, Mosley and Campbell were amazing villains... especially Mosley masterminding the plan to make tommy end himself!
Mosley and Sabini are criminals who were still able to survive Tommy's attack
What I find most interesting compared to most other characters in the Peaky Blinders setting is that Mosley was actually a real person
So was Darby Sabini and Billy Kimber
Jimmy will be heavily focused in the movie!.
The Priest is my favorite villain in the series
Luca scared the crap outta me, when he killed John. He literally made the peaky blinders huddle together. But Father Hughes and Oswald Moseley litterally traumatised me through season 3, 5 and 6. They are interchangeable with each other as the most powerful antagonists of the series ig.
Luca top 3
Great take, great show....Campbell for me, creepy and personal. In a show chock full of great characters the villain of the week worked, love The Duchess and Alfie.
10 year anniversary? Isn't an anniversary tracked from the end of the series? Not the start?
Nah, im meaning the 10 year anniversary since the first episode was released!
@@PowerHubShorts ah, ok
Oswald Mosley is the lone victor against Tommy.
Luca Changretta 🧥 all the way👍
I liked Luka, but despised the Preist. Mosley is a good final boss.
Nelson out of everyone brought the most fear to both Thomas and the audience
I wish we saw more of him! but he was indeed a great, intimidating villain (arguably the most powerful as well)
Adrien Brody's Luca.
Paddy Considine was so good in that part, i hate the sight of him in other parts.. even comedies, like Shaun of the dead
Ok this was ranked on the power smarts intelligence and everything about how much of a problem they were but in my opinion which I go by the plot, charachter development and acting.
So here's my list
8- sabini
7- billy Kimber
6- father Hughes
5- Jack nelson
4- Mosley
3- jimmy mcavern
2- Luca changretta
But number my favourite villian the best acting by a villan the best character development, plot, motives, INSPECTOR CAMPBELL! he was almost identical to tommy in the way they did business and the way they held themselves but Campbell had the best character.
Really great list and reasonings my man! Thank you for taking the time to write this!
@PowerHubShorts what can I say I'm a big fan of the Clay Kicker himself
Thomas Campbell is the right answer because he was a character which stood better in the series than most side characters that have been in the show all the time
Alfie is the man!
I think the way that Jack Nelson was given less screen time was a good thing. They built up Jack Nelson as this incredibly powerful man, and so to have him in more scenes would have spoiled the anticipation and impact of his character.
Sam Claflin gave one of the best performances i've ever seen as Mosley
In terms of all factors....originality, drive, threat (regardless of power) etc
1) Moseley (could have been way better)
2) Campbell (probably most dynamic villian)
3) Luka (strong potential then fell through
4) Hughes (didnt think he was particularly great)
5) jimmy mccaervn
Luca 🔥🔥🔥
I don't think The Billy Boys should be on this list either considering the fact that the Billy Boys were essentially being controlled by Mosley.
1. Campbell overall just for writing and acting. 2. Father Hughes as you mentioned as a god. 3. Luka for classic villain vibes. 4. I put Mosley here honestly because I am not as big a fan of the latter season
Hold on 10 year anniversary
Yeah, its mental isnt it mate?!?!?
Mosley was awesome
Luca only lost to the plot. There were many occasions he could have just killed Tommy but didn't for some reason. On one occasion he even took the bullets out of his gun and just left him alive
Yeah legit, thats why season 4 is ranked the lowest for me. Just to many ridiculous moments
I was fine with Luca intentionally not killing Tommy so that he could suffer more, but then he makes a deal with Polly to just, kill Tommy and spare the rest? Like at that point why not just kill Tommy when you have the chance?
Does Alfie not count as an antagonist? Because he would be my number 1
I wouldn't consider him a 'villain' yk, because they do end on good terms
Great video and it was similar to my rankings aswell. To me the priest is the best villain in the show as he was always one step ahead of Tommy and he caused the most harm to Tommy personally. That dinner scene made me literally wonder how the fuck is Tommy gonna outsmart him? And the ending too like he didn't even win. The entire family was arrested and doomed to hang and he was alone and the only reason they reunited was because Luca waged a war against the Shelby family.
Thank you Dutty! Agreed, the Priest and Section D were amazing villains!
