Think of Arthur as the captain and Tommy as the general. I really like what Tommy said "I think so you dont have to." Tommy makes the big decisions for the family and has everything well planned, but none of those will work if Arthur doesn't do the fighting. In a similar way, Arthur would probably be dead by now if Tommy didn't do the thinking for him. Arthur's true potential is his bravery and prowess, while Tommy's is his tactical genius.
Exactly, it's definitely a two sided coin, and they both need each other!
Charlie, Ada and of course Tommy are my three favorite members of the family

IMO Ada is a top 3 charecter. For me its something like this:
1. Tommy.
2. Polly (duh)
3. Ada.
4. Arthur.
5. John.
Michael would proberbly be #6, but sadly his charecter was ruined by the death of real life Helen McCroy. RIP Aunt Pol´

Naw, I'd put Ada 5th in the first couple seasons. Then she breaks into 4th after John dies with Lizzie moving to 5th. Then in the last season Ada moves to 3d behind Tommy and Arthur upon the passing of Polly. Tommy's son Duke moves up to 4th as Lizzie moves away with Charlie. So my final ranking would be Tommy, Arthur, Ada, Duke and Uncle Charlie. This list is my ranking of characters still alive and involved at the time of the series ending, Honorable mention goes to Dani and Alfie.
I hated Polly and Ada ungrateful every second they were on my screen I skipped I just couldn’t hear them yap yap and yap they both would be nothing without Tommy but every chance they get complain about everything
I didn’t like Polly the most tough Ada was somewhat bearable but Jesus Christ talk about biting the hand that feeds
Although his time on the show was short due to his late introduction, I think Duke can definitely be included on this list

I recently got into Peaky Blinders early this month and finished all six seasons throughout. I remember constantly seeing clips about it last year but didn't give it a try until now. I wish I got into the show sooner as it's genuinely amazing. If I had to rank my top three favourite characters in order it would be
1. Arthur Shelby
2. Polly
3. Tommy Shelby

I liked Finn Shelby in the firsts seasons, but it's character development is horrible. I think Finn should have ended being what Duke is, and it would be a lot better than creating a new character 2 episodes before finishing the show.
I think that Michael could have been the greatest antagonist in Peaky Blinders if they had handled his time in America different along with his failed attempt to succeed Tommy and have him gain power and influence like the Shelby's did in the ealier seasons to set him up as the antagonist for the movie.
Out of every character Michael is the only one i could ever see as Tommy's successor, so as we see in S6 Tommy and some of his enemies believe that the only one who can really defeat Thomas Shelby is Thomas Shelby himself, it would have been interesting to see Michael transform and become the man who may be able to rival Tommy.
Just a rogue opinion, i was really excited when seeing how Michael was starting to change in S3 as it really seemed like he was a younger Tommy.
Yeah agreed, Michael had so much potential, he could have been an amazing rival. Idk why the decided to almost make him a "Joke" in season 6. Great write up mate!
Michael never had a chance at taking down Tommy. Although he was the smartest business operator, and probably could've run the company well had he taken Tommy's place, he made massive mistakes, lost the company fortunes despite Tommy warning him, and didn't have the same military background or field experience that the rest did. Tommy knew the whole time that Michael was trying to take his place, and I don't think anything he dreamed up would've outsmarted Tommy. He actually tried to be too clever in taking down Tommy (and I think Tommy knew he would do that which is why he walks up unprotected), whereas if Michael and his men in the bar simply pulled guns on Tommy, he was on his own and probably had no way of fighting back.
Let's be real: we all knew Finn would be last place.

That’d be really tough. But I think Arthur would be at the top of that for me. He’s the most emotionally unstable of them all and he is portrayed brilliantly, going from someone everyone is absolutely terrified of, to an emotional wreck who doesn’t want to live any more.

I think that my top 5 is obvious, just personally compiled.
Grace 6th because she was really well played by the actress, but also had really entertaining scenes in first series.
Duke 7th is just because how savage he was, even if it was just a few episodes, he became my 2nd most favourite person in the last series.
Michael behind Charlie because he was all the time the kid who I felt was just annoying, can't listen to others... just not entertaining character
Finn 12th because he is from my point of view just worse version of Michael
Rest of the women had little no major role, just were there, bit talking, bit swearing, enjoyed just a few scenes with them

i dont think charlie is tommy's mothers brother, since in one episode when tommy goes and asks charlie how his mother died, charlie said that he was in love with her. if he was her brother then he obv wouldnt fall in love with her.
cant place John over Ada personally, she was way more impactful than john. and john was the reason grace died

Arthur is my most favorite character in the series
finn was an absolute disappointment in my opinion
Arthur will always be my favourite. Throughout all his struggles and his moments of redemption he was always loyal to his brothers.
Being an older sibling to a little brother the scene when he's going through withdrawals and he and tommy speak about how arthur "letting him win" hit me so hard.
He's the enforcer and has a side where struggles carrying his role.
Then I'll go with Tommy, Polly, John and Ada to round out the top 5. In terms of favourite characters in general honourable mentions have to be Johnny dogs, curly, barney, and the little of duke shelby we saw was fantastic for me.
Almost forgot the Don Alfie Solomons 😂

Grace is so important that producers had to kill her so thomas can keep being bad, with grace next to him that was impossible.

If I'm not mistaken, Charlie isn't biologically related to the Shelbys, but was just a close friend of Arthur Sr. and Mrs. Shelby, so much so he was referred to as Uncle.

Duke last because he was a bit of a plot twist and I think in my personal opinion was very different to a Shelby and I think because he was a huge late comer that was his downfall because the character development was too quick for the amount of time left
Esme because she was very much rogue and not a very loyal Shelby in which I might think she is a better side character because of how she acts but she didn’t prove for me Shelby family loyalty
Finn he wasn’t as big as John Arthur or Tommy but he was significant I liked him in season 4 more because of his character development was going however the last two seasons he was for me a childish reckless guy who if he had killed billy I think I would of liked to see more but still very good character
Michael he was Michael at the end of the day I think he started off really well and I liked how he was played i wouldn’t say he was a Shelby definitely a Gray however he was significant and how being in the Shelby family with him wanting to kill Tommy I really liked but he was Michael Gray not Shelby material in my opinion
Linda she was important to Arthur and to the family she had a huge part in bringing something new and definitely liked the marriage with Arthur and how it affected him but I do think there r more Shelby characters
Lizzie she always felt like she belonged there and it felt very interesting her character more in the later seasons where she was married with Tommy and living that life plus all the struggles where Tommy and I do agree with him that she was not meant to be around with the people he speaks too like Mosley
Grace really really good absolutely phenomenal character and she would of been ranked higher if she wasn’t killed off as I was invested on her relationship with Tommy then his one with Lizzie
Charlie Strong always reliable and knows the ins and out of the shady side which I really liked like a gatekeeper and a fantastic member of the family especially in season 6 more and how he is so dedicated to Tommy and the family while also being an interesting side character of being reliable and helpful to the family true Shelby material in my opinion
John because I really liked johns own look and how his death was impactful to the show I liked John when he is so impulsive and decisions he makes showing that he is definitely the youngest out of Tommy and Arthur but also has kids and very gullible choices being made for him which shows him being a very weak minded yet very kind and trustworthy member who sticks by everyone which I like even if like Tommy asking him to kill his old teacher and choosing not too with Arthur still carries on with Tommy and sticks by him
Ada I agree with what you said she wants independency and have her own life but will also see cares about the family and sticks with them even with what happened with Ben who was the guy that got blown up in his car in season 5 while she was hateful to Tommy about it still stays with him and season six was my favourite her character has been as well amazing character development
Polly exactly what you said again but also it being her full time job to look after them all and even in season 4 she hated Tommy despised him but immediately getting back into her old role picked up where she left off with him and was absolutely amazing and very clever such a shame the actress has passed thank you Helen for being amazing actress and an amazing aunt polly and whole I enjoyed season 6 it wasn’t the same without you and you were one of the reasons this show is my favourite thank you
Arthur in second because he is the most loyal to Tommy I believe and always manages to even when they have fallen out or exactly like season three ending eventually they both come to each other and the Shelby family needs them in my opinion Arthur is so incredible in terms of his own life in later seasons with people and represents how whatever happens to his character Arthur will always reflect that and shows how messed up he is mentally but still would do so much for his family and really tries to be a good man but always back to his old roots
FINALLY TOMMY SHELBY BECAUSE HE IS TOMMY SHELBY he is the one character that is my favourite from start to finish with how he acts and how he reacts to his ups and his downs while also doing his absolute best to maintain or regain control and is honestly the first reason I kept watching mad respect to Cillian Murphy and also Steven knight for these characters and overall me in my opinion I think that Tommy Shelby is 75% of what makes the show my favourite

If we are counting Linda as a Shelby then she is dead last by a long shot, even after Finn who got Polly and Aburama Gold killed. She was the worst constantly. Like there was no point where she had done anything productive to the family
Nah, just cause she was annoying etc, doesn't mean she wasn't written well and didn't have a large impact on the story. Likability for me she would be last, but overall, she is where she is.

Lizzie should have never placed before Linda thats facts Linda is absolutely no bueno she ruined and took the beast out of the man the Savage Arthur brought life to war throughout the show strongly can not agree
Yeah thats why she is above Lizzie for me, her actual impact on the show was substantial and interesting imo, and her dynamic with Arthur was intriguing. Arthur and Tommy, hell most of the Peaky Blinders are good men, Linda was the only woman (maybe Grace for Tommy), who was actually able to bring this good over their evil

Mine would be
1-Grace, is the most interesting character, especially in S1, the story with Tommy was very beautifully written, and the performances of the two are spectacular, with too much chemistry.
2 - Tommy, he is not in the first place because since he married Lizzie, he disappointed me a lot, and I lowered several levels for that, but Tommy is Tommy, and I don't have to give reasons why he is such an incredible character. We all know why.
3- Ada, is the character that had the most interesting character development, I loved her from S1 to S6, the last season, she was the most badass and most enjoyable to watch.
4- Arthur, I loved his story, and his fight,his journey ,he really wanted to change, one of the most interesting stories in S2, is of Arthur with the mother of the boy he killed, that scene was powerful.
5- Polly, I loved her character in S1 and S2, and I really liked her story with Michael, but then she changed, and she only complained about Tommy but enjoyed money and luxuries.
6- Michael, I loved his character in S2 and S3, and I really liked his relationship with Tommy, but they ruined it by making him an enemy, and especially in S6, he didn't do anything, he was just imprisoned, it would have been interesting if S6 was about the revenge
. 7- John, I really liked his story in S1 and S2, but I hated him in S3, since it was him, and Lizzie, who started the war against the Changretta, and Grace died, but instead of supporting Tommy and feeling bad , he faces him.
8- Esme, I loved her at first, and I loved her relationship with John, but in recent seasons she blamed Tommy for everything, when John was partly to blame.
9- Linda, she is a very interesting character, at first she believed that she could change Arthur, but Arthur ends up changing her, and bringing out her worst version. I think the two loved each other, but in a toxic way.
10- Charlie, that character is great, nothing to say, but he doesn't appear much, that's why he's here.
11- Lizzie, I put her because she married Tommt but she wouldn't be on my list. Just because she seemed ok to me in S2, but then in S3, she started her obsession with Tommy, who started the war, with the Changrettas, and because of that Grace is dead. And instead of feeling bad, she sees it as an opportunity to be with Tommy again, she i's not even sad for Angel, for me she wanted to take him to the wedding to make Tommy jealous. She then humiliates May and Jesse Eden, for wanting to sleep with Tommy, the same thing she does, gets pregnant, and uses this opportunity, so she can marry him, and once she gets what she wants, all she does is complain. Blaming Tommy for the decisions she made, but enjoying the luxuries, and she ruined the last season for me, because it wasn't enjoyable watching the two of them and their toxic marriage. S6 should be called the Tommy and Lizzie show, look how unhappy we are together.

I loved Polly, and I believe her exit drained the show, making season 6 look like the last season of The Game of Thrones - failed. I loved May, and I don't know how she disappeared. I liked Arthur. I also liked the old fat man who was humorous and always worked at the dock He had a childlike like heart, charming and always running when sent for sth. I don't his name. The one I found irritating was Gina Gray, especially from her cartoonish looks. I felt like she really tried hard to step into the shoes of Polly but it was too much for her.
I think Ada deserves 3rd place, above John and Arthur, and Polly definitely above Arthur

Just my opinion, but Arthur was not that great overall. You could see his struggles from the war with the drugs and violence, but he almost seemed like a comic relief at other points in the show. Tommy never seemed to fully trust him with leading either the Blinders or in the Shelby company for fear of his naivete ruining carefully laid plans. Other characters also recognized that Arthur was more of a mad dog type enforcer rather than a serious gangster.
I'd still rank him at 7 on my own list though:

imo Michael is a great character(top 5) but , the reason he’s shit in s6 is probably bcs polly‘s death irl and the rewriting they had to do. And also the show made us feel like he‘s intelligent but in s6 they made him weak or unintelligent (Finn Cole the actor did an amazing performance throughout the series tho)
Yeah, I wish they made Michael smart, but they made him look like a fool - constantly mocked by the other American gangsters in the final episode.
He was going to turn on Tommy regardless of what happened to Polly. He tries to take over the company in his last meeting, and Polly of course tells Tommy that there would be a war and one of them would die. His wife was constantly in his ear to take The Shelby’s down as well, and her connections to Nelson meant it was always going to end like that.

I think Finn's character was meant to be that way. Finn is from a different generation. He'd be considered as a *Millineal* today . He hadn't had to live the rough life his brother's had. By the time he became a *man*, the Shelbys had already been *established* and economically stable. John's action were uncalled for, and did escalate the situation, but it was still initially birthed by Lizzie
@@PowerHubShorts again I disagree because lizzie ending the relationship and apologising calms the situation down and then John is the one that cut angel and started the war blaming lizzie for the war isn't right because she actually stopped a potential war from happening along with polly but because john still had feelings for lizzie and was jealous he cut angel so I blame john for the war happening but still like him as a character and would still be high up on my list.

Arthur is a great character and is understandable to like him even more than Tommy, but i think that unlike John, he was always doing what Tommy told him no questions, no matter how bad it was
