I know I'm like 4 years too late lol, but I enrolled in mat certification and hope to eventually get my reformer. But due to the money, working full time and being a mom I wanted to wait before diving into the full certification for at least a year or so. Especially due to how intense the hours are increased plus how it is very costly. Also gives me a chance to get in as a sub for mat classes and gain more experience. So to hear you say if you could do it again you would wait before entering into comprehensive makes me feel so much better about the decision to wait a bit. Thank you for the video very honest and informative .
Alex, I totally agree with your values and your concepts! I use a similar structure when I coach my students to become certified Pilates teachers and run their own businesses. The formula I teach creates transformations over and over again. My clients come to be because they have had enough of overwhelm, not happy working for someone else, not managing to get by and living paycheck to paycheck. I offer them the possibility to gain a new skill in helping others, which not only gives them personal satisfaction but offers them a very healthy and profitable lifestyle. I'm loving what I do and I thank all my teachers for the skills I can pass on to these people! Sending you love and light!!!
****** Please look at your local community college for teacher certification***** Ex: My local community college. Is offering a price of $686 for program. This includes knowledge of Mat, Reformer, Auxiliary, Cadillac, and Chair. Based on your income, certification could be free by signing up for a fee waiver. Making all classes Free to you 🎉
Totally agree with you. I should just focus/enroll map pilates instead of taking too much time and money with the comprehensip pilates instructor course. Im now struggling with too much equipments and the name of the exercise for each indivitual exercise.
This is really helpful as I am doing a Pilates certification currently - agree about the leap from an education in analysis to an education in fitness. Am finding it hard to memorise things word for word like a script! Thank you 🙏 followed x x
Thank you very much for sharing your insight. I'm recently thinking about taking pilates instructor training programm. I had questions for observation hours and so on. And I really found some answers in your vedio. Thank you so much once again.
Hi there...THANK YOU so much for doing this video and for being so open and honest! It's refreshing and such an eye opener ;) Many blessings to you! Xxo
Very helpful. I did one year at the PMA registered school to learn that what was advertised did not match what was given. Prices, in reality, were tripled and the programme intentionally stretched. 4 yrs programme! I dropped out having spent loads of money. It is so disappointing. I just wanted to learn Pilates but now so many schools are being " creative" to keep you there forever to pay their bills. Now I am thinking where to go next. I have a matwork qualification but would have loved to learn classical apparatus....

I thoroughly listened to all your ideas and it is so interesting! I live in Seoul, we have a very different industry market. Most of the Pilates are hired by the studio owners and get paid hourly within an agreed hour fee. I am curious where you live! It must be different in where you live. 😮
First of all, I think you are so beautiful. I just got interested in becoming a Pilates instructor and was looking for information, this was honest, informative and helpful. I want to know why you chose Pilates over Yoga if you did choose. Thanks !
Pilates has always been my thing! I enjoy yoga but I find the two methods to be quite different. I'm a bit more analytical, which Pilates tends to be as well. I recommend immersing yourself in both methods and then deciding which you prefer if you're considering teacher training. Hope this helps!
Basically profit oriented industry As everyone has bills to pay I do pilates for fun and health… i am retired…. have enough money to live modestly- i did a comprehensive course to understand the movements and the major piiates tools- i actually learnt heaps from the online teaching videos from USA but little benefit from the workshop in my own country- wasting time- an instructor spent 1-2 hours telling us his skiing holidays in Europe
Thank you for this! Can you share what program you chose? I'm tying to select an option and they aren't straight forward! I'm leaning toward Balanced Body but not sure.
Wow, I have just found you randomly. So sad but so true. I did a full comprehensive program and I am so disappointed about it. I have spent £5000 and I still did not get any certificate because I don’t feel confident enough to give the 3 exams. I almost feel like I have just wasted money and time also I feel kind of robbed to some instances. Anyway I don’t know even if I will ever be able to teach.
Anyone can teach - you can teach to clients who have the same issues as you do- you sound empathetic- should be able to assess and tailor exercises to help clients feel they can do the exercises Pilates is aimed at helping people to move within their limits and improving on these abilities with time safely, while increasing body awareness and confidence and
I cant hear this and the CC is greyed out. Anyone else with this issue or advice as to why I am having this difficulty? ( all other YT videos are fine audio-wise)
You talked about how studios don't care what certifications a candidate has. This is very interesting. Do you mean that getting hired depends on the looks of the applicant?. Do you know which training program is the cheapest?
Hi- I didn't mean to imply that being hired is dependent on a candidate's looks. It depends I think on the relationship of the studio with the person- I've seen that if they know you or if you get along well with someone who works for the studio, you are more likely to get hired, even if you have a lower certification. I don't think this is appropriate or acceptable as it devalues understanding Pilates and the body. I hope this helps.
Hi, thank you so much for your informational video ! I am considering in training to be a Pilates instructor while also studying in college. Do you know anyone who’s done both? I haven’t found any online videos so I am wondering if it’s possible. My ultimate plan is to become a PT and I was thinking of Pilates to be a side job (on the weekends) while I study pt school and then hopefully I can marry them both once I graduate pt school. Do you know of anyone with a similar path?
That's the million-dollar question. I do but I wouldn't recommend it to most people because it is really tough to do. With that said, I do find full-time teachers make for better teachers because they are able to treat is a career, not a hobby job. Typically, I find this helps people stay on top of the latest research, best practice, etc.
I am so lost right now, the course I am looking at is close to $10,000 all in. They haven't announced an in-studio until September 2021, and ask for a non -refundable $2600 down now. I am scared that they may go out of business because of the pandemic, and I am scared of how to proceed.
What would you recommend as the best mat certification? It’s hard to navigate. I live in a small town and have to travel for training so want to make the best choice in regards to all around training.
Thanks for sharing this. At the end of the video, you mentioned that if we have more questions to drop you an email. Can you let us know what your email is? I can't seem to find it under the About section in your channel

This is the second video of yours that I’ve watched and they both seemed very discouraging. It’s like you’re telling people not to go into this career. Do you not recommend or enjoy it? Do you have any positive videos?
If I didn't love teaching, I wouldn't still be in this field. The reality is that it's also incredibly challenging to find your way as a Pilates teacher. I know so many people, myself included, who thought it would be easier to get started in the Pilates industry and have gone though a lot of financial and emotional stress when they realize that isn't the case- how the job is marketed by teacher training programs isn't the realiity. This is amazing. All the blogs/posts/videos that exist that I was able to find don't talk about this. Keep on doing it!
Another video coming at you this week!
I went through peak Pilates and travel and tuition is well above $7,000. You have to maintain CEU with peak or PMA
I wish I knew about all you had mentioned before signing up for pilates training. Your feedback is so useful, thank you for sharing.

I appreciate your honesty. I am an esthetician and we have all the snake oil salesman too.
This is a very honest, informative presentation. Excellent advice. Thank you.

Right on! I love your honesty! This needs to be said!
Thank you so much!
Correct.. I have a successful business but no one helped me and the industry is a scam.. I love Pilates but hate the industry
I went into the training knowing I would add on to my massage business. I had to purchase 2 of the apparatus and set up shop
This is so helpful! Thank you for articulating this so clearly and eloquently
Thank you!
Very informative thank you
