I’ve always just done duplicate stitch on the back for 6-8 stitches. This way looks good too!

I always weave in ends diagonally, it's just the way I was taught but very similar to yours

When I weave in my ends, i follow the “umbrella” as seen in Very Pink Knits. I like the way it hides the end by essentially duplicating the inside of the stitch. Except when weaving in the ribbing, then I “wrap” my needle in the stitch sides then turn and go back up the same # of wraps I the second side stitches

This is such a satisfyingly tidy result! Was this the first way taught to you in how to weave in ends inside of socks? Do you do the same weaving-in way in other garments (sweaters, say)? As a sock knitter, when weaving in ends, I have done duplicate stitch in stockinette and have woven through the edge of a knit column in ribbing. But this looks like a lovely way to proceed and I am inspired to try it.

Awesome!! I usually do something different each time I do my ends but these are so neat and consistent!
New subscriber here- I’ve always sewn in my ends this way with one exception. I pass down one way, up the opposite direction and finish with extra pass through the middle of the loop catching the loop made. Yes, probably unnecessary but like you I’ve never had an end come loose. I try to sew mine horizontally and it’s nearly invisible to the eye.

Hmm.. I’m not sure I’ve ever had an issue with a big hole showing. When I’m ready to add a new color I just grab it and knit the stitch with the new color. On the inside of the work I do make sure the yarns are pulled snug and then tie that little knot that I showed in this tutorial. Maybe try that and see if it helps the hole that you are seeing? ❤️
I have the same problem. I’m going to try pulling it tighter.
I had this. I use a needle and thread the cut ends behind the stitch next to it. So if you have white and changing to a blue yarn. Thread the blue end of yarn through the loop at the back of the white stitch, and the white stitch behind the blue yarn and then gently tug them closed. It will open up againslightly as you knit, but a little tug before you weave them in and it closes again.

Hi Kay! Thanks for the tutorial. I actually knit my ends into the socks by moving the tails up and down and knitting over them. I do like this technique and plan to give it atry.

Like many other people here in the comments I typically use the duplicate stitch for weaving in my ends, and while I’ve never had any issues with it showing on the right side of my socks, it has been a problem with my mittens (especially at the top of the fingers), so I’d like to try this method for my next pair
I love this method and will definitely be trying it. With my wool or wool blend socks, I use duplicate stitch on the wrong side. With cotton-bamboo blends, I separate the plies, take one plus thru the purl bump, and then knit the plies firmly, and then weave diagonally on the wrong side. But for wool, your method looks so much more fun.
I've been using a clasped weft join to start a new color but this way looks awesome for learning to be more strategic about where I start my next color within the sock itself (side of leg vs bottom of foot). Plus it's a little easier to start a new color, just jump in and handle the gaps later. Thank you so much for sharing!
