You should write a book to include these techniques and other of your many excellent methods. You could reference your TH-cam videos in the book. I would certainly buy a copy. It would also make a nice gift. It would be an excellent addition to a new knitter kit for a grand hild or other loved one. Let your followers know about your book. I think it would be a bestseller in the knitting community.

Wow! I have been knitting for 54 years since I was 4 years old and thought I had all the different weaving techniques down pat for different fabric types and yarn choices. Boy did you prove me wrong! Thanks for showing me some different methods and proving that no matter how long you have been proficient at something, there is ALWAYS more to learn! I’ve been knitting for a number of years but never been taught how to properly weave in ends. Its the part of the project that I hate and often my projects will sit because I avoid the finishing. This video has given me great tips to get them done! Thank you so much!!!

Bless you - I’ve been knitting for 54 years and always shied away from any pattern that would challenge me with weaving in ends 😦 1 month ago I learned about grafting new yarn on and it changed my life - until now! To split yarn I rub it close to the work to flatten it and find the strands. I put a finger through and follow it up through the end. It’s really quick.

The very last technique of splitting the cotton yarn is exactly what I needed a few months ago! Wish I had seen this video back then, but in the future all cotton lace projects are getting this treatment! Thank you for making these super helpful videos!

I felt like knitting was an insurmountable hobby to learn, but through your extensive library, I've been able to finish three whole projects! I'm a beginner knitter and recently purchased the How to knit the galaxy pattern book, and of course decided to choose a challenging fair isle type star wars sweater as my first project. I did some youtube research here with your videos, and just from observing your techniques I was able to land here at the end of my sweater with binding off and hiding all the color changing tails. I wanted to thank you as I thought this sweater which my book as mentioned is one of the more difficult projects was going to be a lot more harder than it actually was. What I really like is that, whenever you need to explain something that is already in another video, you explain it again, so we don't have to go and watch several videos just to find a peace of information here and there. Another great thing in your work is that you don't have a magic solution to everything. You explain several different techniques and show us its strengths and weaknesses so we can use whatever is better for our specific project. Just a great job!

Everything you have ever wondered about tying off those pesky loose ends! OMG ! I love this demonstration! I watched one before watching yours and thought, “uh huh, got it.” But then your channel popped up and I remembered how you cover every aspect of your subject, so I watched yours too. I’m so glad I did. Now I feel confident to handle this chore. I especially like the last method for cotton thread. I may use that one for everything because, that is secure for sure! I always worry that my projects will unwind if I don’t finish off with a big fat knot. Absolutely lovely presentation, thank you!😆♥️👱🏼♀️

So I decided to watch some videos of your channel. After watching this video, I was convinced to weave in some ends after all, and let me tell you: I never have been so fast weaving in ends before. Until today I always woven in my ends with duplicate stitch for at lest 10 sts. Today I hid my ends in the seam quickly. 1.000 thanks to sharing your experience with us.

Wonderful tips. Thank you, l've been knitting off and on for 50 years and still learned something new. I wanted to add my tip for anyone who, for whatever reason can't use a spit splice or other join and is worrying about running out of yarn - and therefore needing to join in a new ball - in the middle of a row. l estimate how much yarn l'll need by using my working yarn to measure loosely across the row (or the remaining stitches in the row) the same way you did to estimate the tail in your cast-on demonstration - if l have 4 X the width of the row, l know l'll have enough yarn to get to the edge before l run out. My favourite joining method is a spit splice but, l'll definitely try a couple of the others you mentioned and although l mostly manage to knit in my ends l'llbe using your method to weave them in when l need to. Also, for years I've successfully used a version of the spit splice on yarn that doesn't felt - l split the old and new strands in half for about 10 cm and twist half from each strand together, l knit a couple of stitches with the old yarn and the ½ strand of the new yarn together, then let the half strand from the old ball drop, knit the yarn l've made by twisting the old and new strands together and when l get to the other end of my join l knit a couple of stitches with the new yarn and the ½ strand of the old yarn. I let the unused other halves dangle behind the work and trim them off later. l've never had the courage to try a russian join as for some reason l worry they'll come undone after a few washes. 😊

I have always hating weaving in the ends. But recently I decided to donate 7x9 sections of garter stitch knitting to be made into blankets for Warm Up America. I have procrastinated on weaving in the ends & know have a couple of piles to weave. Thank you for showing us an easy technique which is quick & looks nice

Coping with cotton tails is chronic in a climate that annually requires addicted knitters to resort to cotton based yarns in the hot season. Theses suggestions based on the wiser use of a sharp tapestry needle are an excellent solution that too many are unaware of. Thank you Norman for your persistence in changing this mind set. Sharp on!
@@NimbleNeedles From the wilds of Canada lands and sometimes hotter climes. Depends on the finances and season. I prefer cotton too and linen mixes ideal. Passed along your suggestions to my knitting colleagues and many reacted: [beat] now, WHY didn't I think of that!? and this is from some experienced needle workers. Sometime cross-over knowledge needs a nudge, eh?

Interesting. I was taught not to pierce the yarn with the needle when weaving in ends. I have always tried to put the tail under whole yarn loops. I especially appreciate the diagonal weaving in method, as I have not tried that yet. Thank you for your videos!
well, it really depends on what you want to achieve. But to me, (and I tested this extensively) piercing results in a lot better results - at least in terms of longterm durablity!

Hello! I just finished a big project here and let's just say: I was NEVER EVER this much relaxed with weaving in ends as now. I consider myself an experienced knitter, I can do a lot of thinks, but the backside of the garment was always a dark side for me. Your videos helped a lot to solve that with this particular project. Everything was fine, I was even worrying that something will turn out badly, but no. I proudly say, I have my neatest finish ever! Thank you for the tips, they gave me the patience and the motivation to do the weaving right after the last stitches and not like, a month of silent suffering later. Thank you very much!

Wow Norman. #5 has eased my mind! I am finishing a raglan sweater with hand dyed yarn. To make my MC go farther I added stripes, and because the skeins have noticeable differences I alternated with the 3 skeins. On the sleeves I alternated skeins every four rows, and didn't want to carry, so have a lot of ends. I was panicking about how to weave them in without knots. Now I know! Thank you SO much!

that is one of my pet peeve. There is no anything "best" in knittng. there is only a "best for you". That's why I try to present choices instead :) :)

Wonderful tips. Thank you, l've been knitting off and on for 50 years and still learned something new. I wanted to add my tip for anyone who, for whatever reason can't use a spit splice or other join and is worrying about running out of yarn - and therefore needing to join in a new ball - in the middle of a row. l estimate how much yarn l'll need by using my working yarn to measure loosely across the row (or the remaining stitches in the row) the same way you did to estimate the tail in your cast-on demonstration - if l have 4 X the width of the row, l know l'll have enough yarn to get to the edge before l run out. My favourite joining method is a spit splice but, l'll definitely try a couple of the others you mentioned and although l mostly manage to knit in my ends l'llbe using your method to weave them in when l need to. Also, for years I've successfully used a version of the spit splice on yarn that doesn't felt - l split the old and new strands in half for about 10 cm and twist half from each strand together, l knit a couple of stitches with the old yarn and the ½ strand of the new yarn together, then let the half strand from the old ball drop, knit the yarn l've made by twisting the old and new strands together and when l get to the other end of my join l knit a couple of stitches with the new yarn and the ½ strand of the old yarn. I let the unused other halves dangle behind the work and trim them off later. l've never had the courage to try a russian join as for some reason l worry they'll come undone after a few washes. 😊

@@NimbleNeedles My knitting skills are basic, and I did make one lovely knitted baby blanket for my first child which I'm proud of, as well as some scarves on extra large needles. Crochet is where my skill set is, but knitting produces such soft products. So, I think I've always wanted to build my knitting skills, but the books I purchased rather blindly weren't that helpful. I have always hating weaving in the ends. But recently I decided to donate 7x9 sections of garter stitch knitting to be made into blankets for Warm Up America. I have procrastinated on weaving in the ends & know have a couple of piles to weave. Thank you for showing us an easy technique which is quick & looks nice
i often feel it helps if you do it right away...rather than having to weave in 20 tails in one sitting.

Thank you for this. I am a crocheter and picked up knitting recently since it was something I have always wanted to do. I never makes since to me the way a lot of the tutorials weave in so weirdly either. Their is no way they wouldn’t unravel in my opinion. Coping with cotton tails is chronic in a climate that annually requires addicted knitters to resort to cotton based yarns in the hot season. Theses suggestions based on the wiser use of a sharp tapestry needle are an excellent solution that too many are unaware of. Thank you Norman for your persistence in changing this mind set. Sharp on!
Where are you from robin? But yeah, cotton can be a bit more difficult to weave in... but I actually like it...also linen can be great!
@@NimbleNeedles From the wilds of Canada lands and sometimes hotter climes. Depends on the finances and season. I prefer cotton too and linen mixes ideal. Passed along your suggestions to my knitting colleagues and many reacted: [beat] now, WHY didn't I think of that!? and this is from some experienced needle workers. Sometime cross-over knowledge needs a nudge, eh?

Interesting. I was taught not to pierce the yarn with the needle when weaving in ends. I have always tried to put the tail under whole yarn loops. I especially appreciate the diagonal weaving in method, as I have not tried that yet. Thank you for your videos!
well, it really depends on what you want to achieve. But to me, (and I tested this extensively) piercing results in a lot better results - at least in terms of longterm durablity!

Hello! I just finished a big project here and let's just say: I was NEVER EVER this much relaxed with weaving in ends as now. I consider myself an experienced knitter, I can do a lot of thinks, but the backside of the garment was always a dark side for me. Your videos helped a lot to solve that with this particular project. Everything was fine, I was even worrying that something will turn out badly, but no. I proudly say, I have my neatest finish ever! Thank you for the tips, they gave me the patience and the motivation to do the weaving right after the last stitches and not like, a month of silent suffering later.

@@NimbleNeedles It's not really shy away, more like personal preferences. Weaving is a rather unpleasant part for me, so I usially procrastinate it for approximately two millenias. 🙃
Wow Norman. #5 has eased my mind! I am finishing a raglan sweater with hand dyed yarn. To make my MC go farther I added stripes, and because the skeins have noticeable differences I alternated with the 3 skeins. On the sleeves I alternated skeins every four rows, and didn't want to carry, so have a lot of ends. I was panicking about how to weave them in without knots. Now I know! Thank you SO much!
