- Everyone under the sun has complained about the weird "floating david tennant" opening of THE STAR BEAST... here's my quick attempt at an edit which places Tennant in Jodie's (13th Doctor's TARDIS)

Love this. Steven Moffat knew the doctor would talk to the tardis, and himself in the tardis, all the time. Peter capaldi did this a bunch in the later seasons
really wish this set hadnt been taken down, this just proves that if they had him pacing around this tardis and they released this in advance instead of slapping it on thr beginning of the episode it wouldve been not wholly terrible
Maybe they could’ve just set up the TARDIS console in a dark room to hide the fact that they couldn’t reassemble the whole set. You know, make it look like the Doctor’s standing beside a giant crystalline bonfire in the dead of night.
Having 14 in the Tardis would've been so much better
But that will spoil the surprise

@@midnightmoonwolf7306Actually, in the canon comic “Liberation of the Daleks”, Fourteen did have Thirteen’s TARDIS interior and console, so it wouldn’t be a spoiler, per se.
I'd go one step further and mention that in the Children in Need skit - Destination: Skaro - the TARDIS has Jodie's interior as the background...

... sometimes I wonder if this entire opening should have been Donna having a therapy session, revealing Neil Patrick Harris as her therapist? Because everything she says sounds fitting for someone who is talking to a professional or a friend? While Tennant's should be internal monologue? I don't know, but to me, this opening feels like RTD doesn't trust audience's attention?
It's just an afterthought, isn't it - likely not RTD but Disney requesting extra context pre-titles...
Evidenced by the fact Rachel Talalay (the director of this episode) had nothing to do with this opening 👀
@@gbsheardWell, to be fair to Disney, they're not getting the previous seasons added to their streaming service. So, they did need the context.
yhhh something like this that's embedded into the story would've been so much better, the whole sequence does feel a bit like a clunky exposition dump

Damn, this reminds me how much I'm gonna miss this TARDIS interior. It would have been lovely to see 14th on it but on screen and not only in the comics, so I want to thank you for doing the best next thing to it. Great work 😊
I know the reasons why they couldn't keep Jodie's set, but I always like seeing the new incarnations in the previous Doctor's clothes and TARDIS interior.
The opening is still clunky and wonky as balls, but there's no denying that this is so much better

I wish the opening was just a normal one like him walking back in the TARDIS after regenerating and questioning everything and then it leading into the title sequence and then the story.
@@MaccamatBux they didn’t do that cause that’s what the liberation of the daleks did (a comic) and that was made to lead into the children in need special which leads into the 60th specials. the entire into thing was just cringe and pointless.
@@OnTheHorizon- I don't even like that liberation was there. I wish we saw how he got his new sonic and everything.
@@MaccamatBux meh, liberation of the daleks is a better story than anything the 60th specials gave us tbh, one of the best dalek stories imo, it’s quite unique

Absolutely, that horrible, cheap looking, void opening needed to be deleted.
But the additional benefit of David in Jodie's TARDIS . . . Absolute chef's kiss perfection.
A perfect transition from the old to the new, and canonically correct at that point too.

My theory is that the real reason the Doctor’s old face came back is probably a side effect of the recent forced regeneration by the Master and subsequent reversal of the forced regeneration by Yaz and Vinder. This somehow messed up his ability to regenerate (go all wibbly wobbly) which eventually resulted in the 13th Doctor turning into the 14th Doctor with the 10th Doctor’s lineage.
The Toymaker exacerbated this paradox further. He had his hands on the galvanic beam. By fatally shooting the 14th Doctor with the beam he inadvertently caused a bigeneration to happen because he is a god-like being with the ability to bend reality. But again this clearly wasn’t intentional. Why do you think the Toymaker looked surprised to see the Doctor split in two?
Great idea!. See, this is what frustrated me about the 60th, we had it on a plate, because so much had gone on in the previous episode that could explain this anomalous incarnation but it is never realised on screen. So much potential... lost.

So much better! 🙌🔥🔥 Still feel like the original should have been better handled, as first impressions go (especially for new and returning viewers), it felt like such an afterthought, I sure Rachel Talalay wasn't entirely happy as this section was without her involvement infront of an otherwise visually well directed episode...
Then again, while I've been enjoying this era on the whole, so far, I do feel like certain decisions haven't been as consistently up to scratch as they probably should be! ~ with aspects of scripts and some thematic elements coming to mind.
I like Doctor Who when you have to suspend disbelief, yet it still has a semblance of logic, and I don't feel this era has entirely landed in that regard. 👍

So much better! You're very talented. Could you also edit the scene where 14 looks out of the TARDIS at the beginning and it's black to show 13s interior behind him instead? That would be absolutely amazing.

Much better, and I liked the opening. Just too bad David isn’t moving around Jodie's TARDIS like he and Chris did theirs in the Series 1 & 2 Promo Trailers while breaking the fourth wall. But this is closer to that than before when he was standing in space. Thanks George. ❤

Now imagine instead of them simply doing the monologue standing still they actually had him running around the console, pull levers and steering the tardis, while spouting the monologue in rapidfire like he's talking to himself!

I've been thinking that someone wanted the 14th Doctor to look like the 10th because of the meta-crisis energy.
Sorta unrelated but this has inspired me to envision an alternate ending to Doomsday where Rose is the one having made a goodbye message for the Doctor on board the TARDIS calling back to the parting of the ways instead of the ending we got 😭 don’t think I can make it tho as there’s not really any footage that’d work

So when I first watched this It felt like this was an introduction to 14 and Donna spinoff to come- starting with StarBeast, leading to BiGeneration.
14&Donna becomes the Hybrid.
Causing 15 regenerate into the TC as 16th.
16- fugitive becomes a self contained Timeless child series
All within the division reality created around the doctor when he is used to rewrite time. - like donna in turn left
By 12 convincing 1 to regenerate caused the doctor to become a fixed event, therefore Immortal-
Causing the Tardis to drop 13 to earth.
The Tardis saved fugitive from the divisions timeline before 13 found the Tardis at Ghost monument- explaining why nothing made sense from 13th doctor’s perspective.
The spy master born within the new timeline didn’t lie to 13, just believed 13 was fugitive, as it was fugitive that had her memories taken as the timeless child.
What The grand serpent (rassilon post hell bent) goes on to do after UNIT causes the Timeless Child - ending with the flux meant for the Fugitive Doctor, But hitting 13 instead.
This started by 14 returning with 10s face to meet Donna again, following the serpents deal with the Trickster after his banishment from earth.
(I like making connection, sure there are thousands of reasons why this is soo wrong - no hate 😂😂)

@@gbsheardIt’s a fantastic edit. Tennant being filmed in front of a green screen, with an image of Jodie’s TARDIS set being added in post production would have worked, given the fact that the original set had been dismantled. It was briefly seen in “Destination: Skaro” (courtesy of green screen), but to see it again would have been fantastic! Nice job!!
@@DoctorDisco1963 In “Destination: Skaro” it was a printed on a cardboard scenery (very old school 😁😁) rather than green screen but yes agreed. Far better than the floating in space thingy.

While I love the effort, I don't think anyone can save this opening 😂. Maybe a version in space where you only see his torso molded and faded into space or something. But that whole original cold open was just... damn lol
If I had access to the TARDIS set, a massive camera and the original greenscreen assets I could give it a go, but you're right - the framing is weird...
0:52 notice the mix of Clara's theme and the instruments used in the Heaven Sent/Hell Bent soundtrack here? Relevant because that story also involved a memory wipe.

Seriously the BBC/Disney could have easily done this rather than him floating in space, even though at this poinbt they didnt have that tardis set you managed to do it with an image of the interior, they could have literally done the same and made it x10 better!
Yeah it would be better if we saw the 13th Doctor Tardis a last time.

I feel the whole sequence was unnecessary cause the anniversary specials were for existing fans like me who already knew Donna story the actual jumping on point for the new fans was the church on ruby road since the anniversary specials were continuity heavy even they felt like more of celebration of season 4 unlike power of the doctor that felt more like an anniversary special
This is still quite clunky, but that’s no fault of yours. The show fucked up the opening big time. What they should have done is something similar to the Under the Lake opening. Have the doctor walk around the Tardis and fiddle with the controls while giving the monologue, just like with the Bootstrap Paradox explanation.
You're SPOT ON! - It could have worked if it was planned ahead of time and not just slotted in last minute!
The scaling could have been better, particularly when you can see the console, but otherwise it's good.
That clunky sequence is precisely why a companion should always carry over from one Doctor to the next. Most of that information could have been conveyed through actual dialogue, instead of an info dump direct to audience.
That’s actually what they do in the Doctor’s conversation with Shirley at the steelworks. I get the feeling that this intro was a late addition requested by either Disney or the BBC.

@dxctr_master They teased it wasn't right and I was expecting some sort of reveal from the Toymaker, but we got nothing.
And now we never will. I'm with you, eternally frustrating that it wasn't tackled, maybe a call-back to the just seen forced regeneration or something went awry because the Doctor was regenerated then degenerated and then regenerated again in a very short space of time.... put nope. Head cannon it all we have. 🤷♀
I’m glad that they got rid of 13’s interior. It was bloody awful!
