    I never met R, C. Sproul, but I was influenced by his writings and radio talks. He lamented the influx of heresy into popular Christianity that at a Bible Publisher and bookseller convention he literally stood in the middle of the place and said loudly, "There is so much heresy is this room it could fill a dump truck!" He understood what false teaching could do and like in this wonderful clip he knew it could lead a person to believe in the wrong Jesus and be left in Divine wrath. RC also talked about how God could still take our bumbling efforts and bring forth fruit. Because God is Great even the weakest Christian will bear fruit. It's a wonderful relief to know that God doesn't love me because I'm worthy or deserving, no not at all.
    God doesn't love you because of who you are, God loves you because of Who He is! Can you see the freedom in that truth? It is especially helpful for folks who feel inadequate and weak and before God who doesn't?

    This has been on my heart this past year. I googled the word "sin" and found out that that word is on the decline since 2010. This past year I taught and introduced the Heidelberg Catechism to a class of Chinese and Indian Malaysian seminary students. We could hardly get past the first Lord's Day without crying. Some had never understood the depth of sin's curse on Christ at the cross. Many came to Christ to seek comfort or peace through some difficulty but had yet to discover that they were sinners in need of a Savior.

    Many years ago, when I came to the end of myself and surrendered my life to The Lord my Godly brother gave me a study Bible and a book titled Essential Truths of the Christian Faith by RC Sproul. That was the most important gift I ever received. Hat a tremendous blessing. Now we live in a time where we can ride down the highway listening to the greatest teachers of our time on our daily commute. We live in a great time.

    • @marthaj67
      @marthaj67 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Agreed. Personally, I prefer to call it "reformed theology". I think a lot of people resist "Calvinism" because it's named after a man. They've never studied it. They honestly believe that "Calvinists" follow a man instead of Christ. So, they remain ignorant of its basis in Scripture. Many were probably warned off of it as youngsters by preachers who themselves had not done any research because they too were warned away from it by _their_ preachers, who had not studied it, and so on...
      The name itself, "Calvinism", is undoubtedly more well-known among laypeople than "Armianism". In fact, I'd be willing to go so far as to say that most "Arminians" don't even know that their system of belief _has_ a name, and that it too was named after a man, Jacobus Arminius. I'm quite sure that there are some (in both camps) who don't know the difference between *synergism,* which says that man must "accept" Jesus Christ for salvation, and *monergism,* which says that it's ALL God's doing; that man can do NOTHING to save ourselves because we are dead in our sin and are UNABLE to choose God.
      Calvinism, in spite of being named after a man, is probably _the LEAST man-centered theology there is._ I believe this is why Satan is having such a field day on social media right now. He despises what is right, and loves that men have come up with ways to add works to Salvation. So, is it any wonder that there are always angry, accusatory comments on videos like this? _Unlike the original comment from 'gregormann7'._
      It's a shame that the Body of Christ has allowed itself to become so bitterly divided over what should be the plain Gospel Truth. Even worse is that it's being conducted in public fora all over social media where non-believers and those of other faiths can read the comments and scoff at the stupid Christians who can't even agree on the most foundational teaching of their "religion" 😞

    Thanks Tim for your such a lovely and compact message which is so encouraging and so powerful . I strongly think that in todays Christian world there is no shortage of good and right sound doctrine , but what I think we missing today is practical fruits of our faith . We have to live what we preach when we come from down our pulpits or from our video camera . We are not enough salty and not enough bright as a candle to shine in this world. We are actively involved in book righting and in speech making, but not in practical works, to be close to the world ,to his sinful children , we stay a way from them, and we do not want get our hands dirty , we are so comfortable in our daily routine that to brake this, is like a big thing. We only spend the time with people that we like and they are like us, but less and less we spend time with the strangers who God said that are our neighbours, our service is only from our pulpits and from our books ,or from our video channels like yours and like mine , But R.C was deferent, last faithful solder , who in such a bold manner was proclaiming the truth . I want to be like him and I want to be like a Jesus, or like a Paul , and I'm hoping that you want to be as well......

    We NEED to consider Gods' Holiness in comparison to mans' fallen state compounded since Adam and Eve till present. When we see this truthful condition man chose, then only can one discover the Love God has for us, for while we were still sinners, Christ (Gods' only begotten Son) died for us. NO greater love has anyone seen than this act of love and obedience. Are YOU on your knees right now? You ought to be! Be thankful we have a Savior because even the fallen angels were not given such Grace nor were they shown such Mercy. Thank you God the Father for God the Son, AND leaving us God the Spirit to lead the way back home to You. Amen.

    This is exactly what some pastors do. They lift up other men no matter how far off base they are, often in opposition to scripture. They do so because it reinforces their own theology and in doing so they validate themselves to others.
    "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
    And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore let no man glory in men.
    Scripture and the Holy Spirit is all we need.
    "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."
    Friends, let us stop glorying in men and trust God and God alone for truth. Think about how many different doctrines men are responsible for. When we simply listen to men we are being lazy with our salvation and that can have eternal consequences. Read scripture; commit yourself to truth wherever it leads, and ask God for it. If you are committed to truth and will trust Him, God will never mislead you whereas man often does. God Bless.

    Having looked at the scriptures I find that RC missed the glory of the cross by a hairs breadth he knows the truth now praise G-D. Not seeing the glory you could almost miss the gate. Luke 23:40 leads to Deuteronomy 21:22-23. The criminal without hope knowing the full weight of the curse was upon him turns to Him who knew no sin and pleads to be remembered. Luke 23:43 saves him and the glory of Jesus is revealed. There is the gospel demonstrated on the cross.

    Tim, your edifying videos are an incredible blessing but seem to have poor mixing to the point that makes the music too LOUD. It takes a cringing effort to balance between mixing/equalization flaws. Ideally, REMOVE THE MUSIC if you want the emphasis on the WORD OF GOD. Content is great but the music kills the essence of the solid truths you are sharing. Too distracting, it is like listening to your professor while there is a youth fair at your college campus. Charismatics use music to keep attention captivated. Truth does not need that. Big difference when you lower the music or remove it completely. We want the truth, no entertainment or pleasing of the ears. We want our hearts changed, thank you for your ministry. Keep up this efforts, brother!

    What view is right? Happy to show you the only view that is right. Here it is!
    This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. 1 Timothy 2 : 3-6
    For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
    And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise belongs to you and your children and to all who are far off-.... Acts 2 :21
    The opposite, Anti-Christ Gospel is called the 5 Points of Calvinism! Or Reformed Theology! Or Doctrines of Grace!
    There is not one false religion (Cult) that is more dangerous than these. Its the most dangerous, because the Calvinists really think they are Christians, defending God!
    But it is the opposite, they have become an enemy of God and His Love for mankind.
    Yet some do wake up and turn to Christ. If they didn't, I wouldn't waste my time doing what I do and receiving the abuse!
    TRUTH IN LOVE

    I wonder how you determine what a great sermon is ? Sproul was a great theologian in the vain of Jonathan Edwards not a Biblical exegete . This is a statement that needs to be proved , I but can't do it here ; I do offer this as a small beginning. Once in a debate in which he was defending infant baptism against John Mac Arthur who was opposed to the doctrine, he said, "at least john has the Bible on his side." Now I am not defending Mac Arthur , it was clear in the debate that he was trying to wrestle with Scripture while R.C. was more concerned with lining up with Reform Theologians of the past.

      Here's an alternative theory. I'm thoroughly familiar with "The Word", and subsequently have enough questions about Dr. Sproul's theology to legitimately question it. If Dr. Sproul and his ilk are correct, then you have nothing to worry about... apparently, I'm predestined to be lost. Enjoy Heaven without me. But if Dr. Sproul is wrong, then he is way WAY off and is responsible, in part, for your theological confusion, and will answer for it someday.
      Man, religious people can be so annoying.

      Dave Wagner annoying they can be. Thanks though, for not addressing the actual subject. No sense talking theology when discussing God. ;)
      Galatians 3:13 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree”.
      Dave, what is your specific contention with the sermon point referenced. I don’t see how it could be more clear.
      PS...Subject aside....it was your annoyingly arrogant tone sir, that sparked my interest in wording as I did. Your a bully preacher. I don’t like bullying. It’s annoying and condescending. You made a claim, beyond scripture, in effect, by calling the Word a liar. Could you defend your position please? I am always willing to learn

    So how does this help us Tim?
    So God and His Father are not of the same substance?
    I thought Jesus Christ was the Word of God made flesh.....Homoousias to Patri?
    You're preaching Deism.
    Your God is Zeus and your Jesus is Prometheus.

      Jesus is the Word made flesh and of the same substance as the Father - homoosious de Patri- as you reiterated. He became a curse for us on the cross, as was prophesied.

    You know the very reason why any Pastor would preach is because they know they have been saved past tense the moment you put faith in Christ alone for your salvation he saves you and you cannot be lost so that said I don't understand why you would say that he realized that he was going to go to heaven that's ridiculous he's already seated in Heavenly places says the scriptures he read that scripture did he not believe that or is he just hoping that he goes to heaven you think he's embracing the Lamb of God but I believe he's in hell you burning cuz I don't believe I don't truly believe that he was saved because people like him John MacArthur and all them they look to themselves for Assurance of salvation that is why I believe these men are in hell

    This is atypical Sproul - he must have sensed something missing in church - but why the over the top ugly...but from listening to his radio program i only had trouble with his interpretation of revelation - how is that not a future event? i began to lose respect for his ministry of loving God with our mind the same God who tells us what is to come as Isa 46 declares yet calvinists miss it here - its a pity because they have sovereignty of God right, but stumble over Lordship Salvation and book of Revelation as well as 501c3 status although that is not plaguing them

      Paul Elliott what part of it?

    • @paulelliott8062
      @paulelliott8062 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The part where it caricatures God's love and over emphasizes God's sovereignty. The part where it doesn't comport with anyone's experience and we are told that this is because God's ways are higher. With Calvinism if you take it to it's logical extension 1) Humans have more mercy than God 2) God is the author of evil.
      To which the usual response is that I am told I don't understand Calvinism, but yet no one can adequately explain how it doesn't lead to the above.

    • @LOT116
      @LOT116 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Elliott God is not an author of evil in the humans just like a parent are not the author of evil in the heart of his child. Indeed God allowed the evil but this is not the same as creating it.
      The false assumption that most people make is that we are able to understand and comprehend the ways of God. But the Bible states the opposite.
      Predestination is a fact. You have just different way to explain and interpret this fact.
      The problem is that Bible never ever, not with a single word allows for us to interpret it as being founded on human decision. In fact the whole Bible states quite the opposite.
      You claim to have a better mercy than God. How do? The assumption is fundamentally and logically wrong whatever the true interpretation of predestination is. We are creatures of an almighty God.
      And God is sovereign. That’s another fact.
      God makes everything for Himself in the first place, another fact.
      Combine it with the teachings of Jesus and Paul about human ability to come to God in his own and humans being the clay I God’s hands and you literally have no other option than to embrace Calvinism.
      The only problem is our ego and delusion of how important and able we supposedly are.

    • @paulelliott8062
      @paulelliott8062 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks you said exactly what I thought you would.
      Now some Calvinists believe that humans have no free will. In which case it is quite easy to see how God is therefore the author of evil. Everything we do is predestined by God including if I sin. (Indeed God chooses me to be anti-Calvinist). But it looks like you are choosing a more nuanced Calvinism where we have some free will (please correct me if I'm wrong)
      You claimed that human free will creates evil. But Calvinists deny free will to choose God. Even though when we choose God, it seems like free will in our experience, but due to a mystery we cannot understand, it's not really free will. But we can free will to choose evil, which also seems like free will in our experience, and in this case it really is free will. And even though our experience of choosing God or choosing evil by free will is the same experience of making a decision, only one of them is truly free will. This of course sounds insane, but that's because God's ways are higher and what seems insane is in fact not so. But in this the Calvin God becomes the author of confusion.
      You take something like not being able to understand the ways of God and extrapolate it way past the context. I can understand love and I can understand mercy. And when God only chooses some to be saved by some mysterious sovereign will, then I have more mercy than God because I would choose all to be saved; (which is in fact what the scripture declares, but Calvinists deny this by deliberately misinterpreting such verses). But maybe that's because I am thinking of mercy in human terms??? God's mercy is somehow higher and more mysterious. So what seems less gracious and less merciful is in fact more merciful. And thus the Calvinist God becomes the author of confusion.
      If God has the ability to cause us to be saved then why does he not do that for all and end all evil. His inaction is tantamount to being the author of evil.
      If God's ways are so mysterious and beyond our ability to comprehend then how do you know you got it right with Calvinism?

    If RC Sproul was really a Christian he would have known that he was saved the moment he put Faith In Christ Alone it wouldn't be until 2008 when he would need know that he was saved that's ridiculous everything you say is ridiculous
