The nut you gave up on for the tie rod end was the right one. If the threads were not right, you would not have gotten the nut to thread on where the shaft was all the way to the end like you did. The nut is called a prevailing torque nut and is actually deformed a certain amount from the factory to cause drag on the threads. That drag or friction is the mechanism in most modern vehicles that prevents it from backing off. Where the old style relied on lock washers or cotter pins to hold them, or loctite.
Thanks. Yes, I had the same issue. It took me some time to figure out that there is a plastic pin you need to clamp hard to press it through the zip tie. Its not easy as you need to hold zip tie tight and fiddle with plier to press the pin.. but doable..
Hi mate. I bought LH and RH set including inner and outer rods for around AUD160 ish on ebay. I used discount code on ebay to buy it at that price. If you dont know already, ebay generally has discount code for certain sellers that buyer can use and save significantly. I can send you the exact link if you like.
Thanks for the reply. I also wanted to buy the TRW product you used, but this time I ordered only the left and right tie rod ends using the lowest price Febest product. I bought a 2009 Discovery 3 with 275k km on it 2 weeks ago and it needed repairs in too many places, so I chose the lowest priced part. Your video is very helpful. Thanks
@abchkbh All good. I am on the same boat. My one is 2007, and has lot of minor stuff to fix. In my ownership of 10 months i have learnt so much. My take is Discos are not for the ones who are not hands-on and not keen to DIY. It will end up being very expensive. Trick is to invest in tools and do as much of maintenance yourself. Ebay is your friend, not many ppl know that it has discount code features every month ranging from 5 to 30% off. If you are good at shopping around you can get much better quality product on similar price as inferior ones. Febest are not bad but I think the price i got my TRW ones was close to other cheaper ones. Good luck and happy land rovering..
@abchkbh also you can check out oem warehouse australia ebay online shop. They sell genuine product at fraction of cost. I bought LH EGR valve Valeo brand for $90!! The market price was around $350 plus. I bought inner tie rod genuine for $55, market price just under $200. I think they get hold of items with minor defects like damaged packaging, missing bolts and so forth. But the actual parts are fine.
@@DISCO3_BEGINNERGreat thanks, Can you share seller's name? Can't find that seller on ebay. For reference, I mainly use lrdirect, mjproducts, trspares and my local Land Rover parts store, and finally compare with eBay to make a purchasing decision. Cheers
Great video

Hey great video. Perfect for what need. What is the tool called to remove the old tie rod kit please the black tube tool? Thanks
Glad that video might have helped you. I bought it on ebay.
You can search 'inner tie rod remover tool'. Cost me AUD55 last year.
Nice work - Just curious I’ve always had issues on the trw kits with that zip tie they give you. What’s the trick to getting it to lock?

Great video. Can I ask where and how much you bought the tie rods? 😅Thanks. Shawn from Sydney
