Man I miss the look of SEGA arcade racing games. I only grew up with Daytona USA 2, so I don't even really have major nostalgia for it. But this artstyle is just so good to me
It has been used as a WRC superspecial stage a few times over the years, sometimes with 2 cars at once with one car starting on the F1 main straight and the other one starting next to the pool
Never really liked the Escort in this game. I don't really know why tbh. Tried them all but I guess I got used to the Stratos really soon and went with it all the way... Every game was so expensive that every time I played it I had to be on the safe side i.e. by chosing the Stratos - bumper camera :)
Even today I love that polygon dirt effects behind the cars it looks amazing. Why don’t more off-road racers use that instead of pixels? Overall it still looks amazing in 2023
Okay, I just realized you can't overtake more than 5 opponents in the first and second area, meaning the perfect run still finishes 11th and 6th respectively at these sections...
Passing cars is not the main issue here; time is your enemy. You will have plenty of time to pass the computer drivers in each stage since the drivers do not drive faster and the stage itself lasts three times longer and 5 on the final Riviera stage.
I hope so too and I'm very glad you've stuck around with me all this time! It always frustrated me that my computer was never quite fast enough to record perfect videos, but I hope to get it upgraded and all the way up to speed some day so I can finally knock out that 500 mile mode... Thanks!!

Thanks for the answer! I was kinda curious since, as far as I know, nobody uploaded a video about Grand Prix Mode before and I thought that it didn't exist. So I thought that it could have an Endurance Mode like the Daytona series, bou now I see that it doesn't. Greetings from Chile.
I never did play Sega Rally 2 on DC, I heard it was mediocre, I played the original to death on Saturn and adored the OST, especially Mountain, though the Forest piano track was low key awesome.
yeah - SR2 on DC is just OK. Should have been a whole lot better. :( It plays OK but there's a fair it fogging and popup - more there should be on DC - and some feel the frame rate is unstable though playing it with a VGA cable is supposed to address that quite a bit.
Despite the fact that the Peugeot 306 Maxi is the easiest car to sub 4:00 in Championship, *theoratically* all of the 8 cars (& i'm counting the Celica & Delta as part of the game) can do the same thing (but a few seconds slower) if driven properly (it is based on the normal mode instead of the extended GP). The Escort WRC one is considered hardest & the slowest of the 8 to do it since it's theoratical time is just a few milliseconds (about 55 hundreds to be exact) above the sub 4:00 There is a link to those times if you're interested.
Wow I didn't even know this had an option to allow full pratice length on every race in the champtionship! Is this a custom ROM set, or is this on the original cabinet? What kind of crazy arcade op would enable this mode xD
Hi, hope you can answer this. did you manually set the sensitivity for the emulator? i had a few problem when turning and i really wish i can tune it down a bit. great run with the escort as well.
Thanks!! The steering wheels on the cabinets have a lot of travel from lock to lock, so mapping all that turning of the wheel in an emulator to a tiny analog stick on a gamepad can make it tricky to play at first. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to get around this since you'll need to use every bit of wheel travel you can get to set fast times; you can try switching from a gamepad to a racing wheel of your own or you could use a gamepad with a physically larger stick or even a flight stick to make those small inputs easier to make. It took me a while to get used to it, but I never ended up changing any settings and simply stuck with my gamepad and learned how to play around the high sensitivity. Finally, while this functionality might not be built into the emulators, I also know there are some external programs out there that can temporarily lower the sensitivity of a gamepad stick when you're holding a button; software like that might also be something to look into. Keep at it, practice lots, and find an input device that works for how you like to play and the rest will come naturally!
I had this on the PC many moons ago and me and my little brother would take turns playing but my Mum would always watch over me when it came time to enter names for high scores so I wouldn't enter Bum, ass or poo because my brother shout these words in the living room.
Thanks!! I think the call is "caution, hey, right" here, it's an unusual call but it does a good job warning you that while the curve is still a long right corner overall there is a protrusion on the left side wall that makes it much narrower and harder to drive cleanly than any other right corner; you don't lose much speed for hitting walls in Sega Rally 2, so try to ignore that left wall, line up on the left before aiming for the apex like normal, don't lift the throttle, and power through this one to get past it cleanly!
Thank you for keeping me after this, I've ended up learning a lot, especially about how every co-driver has their own unique style they use in their pacenotes! After doing some more research and listening to the raw audio samples from the game, I think they might actually be calling "caution, K-right" here after all which I think is distinct from an earlier "hey, right" call early on in the town section of the Mountain stage; I learned that some co-drivers use K as shorthand for "kinked" to describe a corner that is gentle enough that you can see all the way through to the end of, but has a narrowing chicane-like bend in the inside wall that forces you to find another line, which would describe this corner well. To add to the confusion, there is another K-right corner right next to the "hey, right" corner in the Mountain stage, and additionally, while Sega Rally 2 does not have any square/90 degree corners, the original Sega Rally does have three square lefts and one square right but the co-driver chooses to call these as "hey, left" and "hey, right" while all the other corners get called either "easy," "medium," or "hairpin." I hope this helps clear some of this up!
What input device are you using? I have a Logitech F310 joypad and it's very difficult controlling the car to me. Can you recommend me a different input device or settings I can play with? What are you using?
This is weird, in my copy the game is totally full of glitches and is almost unplayable due to the amount of visual madness, none of which is evident here. Also, this appears to be running in a higher resolution, and it’s in 16:9!? How are you doing this? My version of Supernodel only supports 496x384 resolution.

I use an older AMD FX 9000 series processor and an Nvidia GTX 970 graphics card; a SSD can also help in some Supermodel games too to prevent stuttering
This game did come out on Dreamcast in 1999. Had some extra content like customizable cars, career mode, and even new cars that weren’t in the arcade version.
It can be hard to turn the steering wheel quickly and work the shifter at the same time on the real cabinet, but once you get the correct speeds and gears memorized for the most important corners it can be pretty easy to put down fast and consistent times! Be sure to practice plenty and good luck out there!
For Sega's racers from AM2, the difficulty or skill of the computer drivers can't be changed; the "difficulty" setting in the service menu only changes the amount of extra time checkpoints grant, making it easier or harder to lose by time out. In Grand Prix mode you have three times more laps to pass the same number of computer drivers (who drive just as aggressively as they do in the normal single lap mode), so the only real threat in this mode is running out of time!
I use to love how the “spectators jumping away from you in the distance” were already hit by the car in front of you 90% of the time.
Such a clean game. Sega really peaked at these games in the 90s.
This game’s graphics aged like a fine wine. Sega was really ahead of the curve with these racing games back in the day.

I miss Escort in overseas version of Sega Rally 2.
I had no idea, this mode existed 😮
That's strange. I don't see all the AI cars in the Desert track nor the Mountain track.
What's the ideal car to drive in Sega Rally 2? Definitely not the Ford Escort. I drove the Lancia Stratos too many times.
Depends on what you like, 4WD, handling, coupe or sedan and more... For me it was the Subaru.
The best car for completing championship in under 4 minutes is the Peugeot, since it doesn't drift at all.
Peugeot has the best grip and you can get really fast splits and even get a sub 4 minute run.
