After the last stream you did EB, I went back to Linux. For couple hours using Windows even stripped down my fan is on none stop. Linux Mint, hardly any fan noise at all

Windows free since February. Cheers from Poland, our elections last year turned out to be a disaster too.

We're not thick as dog shit ebez, the system is broken. People wanted the tories out. The safest way to accomplish this is tactical voting. Doesn't make it right but I'd sooner see what happens under labour than stick it out under tories

Nailed it mate. As soon as we get shot of our ridiculous first past the post voting system (which we only share with ONE other european country - Belarus)(!!!) smaller parties have a massive uphill struggle - over decades - before they can make ANY inroads in our 'democracy'.

Agee. It is thick to think tat the nation will suddenly bring a tiny party to the pedestal. They knew this and voted the lesser evil that actually had the chance to see Tories out. And Reform are just posers, they wouldn't do much for the benefit of the nation. Farage a hero? English man? Applying for a German passport right after the 2016 referndum, his kids with German passports able to claim UK benefits? Give me a F break LOL.

Completely Windows free since Christmas 2020 when a W10 feature update bricked the hard drive. Installed the glorious Peppermint 10 and didn't look back. Am now running the sublime MX23. Why anyone runs Windows when Linux os's are this good - and absolutely wipe the floor with Windows - is beyond me.

we do have a different government there are fewer clowns and fewer privately educated rich people. im not saying the system is good but labour is objectively better than the tories even if the margins might be narrow

the music software and plugins i need simply dont work on linux even with wine etc installed. tried setting up a dedicated machine on linux but ultimately had to go back to windows 10. either the programs dont work or they cannot be activated to work. outside of that im using linux for everything else.

Ill tell you why I went back to Windows EB, I had a goal to be Linux exclusive in 2026 but I had some issues, not all my software runs on Linux and good remote desktop wasn't available to me.
Now its years later, every issue I had still exists, but now that cool pulseaudio setup I made I have to remake because I need to adapt to pipewire. Thats asking a time investment on my part to redo what I already spent a lot of time doing. But alright, that would be worth it so we will add that to the "Doable" list.
Whats next? Oh right, distributions are slowly moving to force Wayland down my throat which breaks more stuff and makes the remote desktop idea even more impossible, lovely. What else? Oh right, because of a bullshit licensing issue I don't believe is real they no longer ship codec acceleration by default for my laptops GPU so now i'd also have to use unofficial builds of mesa to get that back. And my usage has grown to, I bought a VR headset I can actually own since it requires no account and has an offline driver install, this room is not suitable for lighthouse trackers so i needed to be inside out tracking. Name me a single one that works on Linux and doesn't force me to login to an account. Meanwhile I have a need for more complicated fan control, this was very easy on Windows with an open source program that can handle every fan suitably. On Linux I haven't found such a tool so thats another research project tying multiple tools and configs together to make GPU number 1 not have worlds worst fan profile (That one needs to be overridden and is GPU controlled) and GPU 2 have a working fan, thats a datacenter card so its controlled by a motherboard fan, I need software that reads the GPU temp and then sets the motherboard fan speed.
So I am worse off than when I started and all the progress I had made into moving to Linux was undone by breaking changes. Meanwhile Windows does what I want it to do, thanks to the LTSC edition I am not getting most of the bullshit with my tweak script taking care of the rest, and ill be guaranteed Windows 10 security, antivirus and browser updates until 2032. At the end of the day its about whats enjoyable to use and while when I had a much weaker laptop I really enjoyed the Linux browser experience, now that I have a laptop that can do more I felt to restricted.
Linux is pretty awesome in what it does, but when I have to conclude it makes what it doesn't even harder for me to achieve than a few years prior when I was hoping better tooling would come along I think its logical as to why I have given up for the time being.
As for the politics, I don't understand it either why the masses don't wake up and vote with actual knowledge. But thats mass manipulation for you, which the establishment is very good at. Considering the conversation we once had I am surprised you think voting matters at all, it didn't seem like you thought you had an actual choice before. I hope reform changed that for you at least. My political ambitions have stranded in the lockdown era when I saw how little the masses cared about what I wanted to achieve for them, everything I was motivated to fight against came true at that point and nobody seemed to care. So I have to give you credit when you said it was pointless, it would indeed have been.

@@imadam And for a lot of people completely BROKEN "Wayland solves no issues I have but breaks almost everything I need. Even the most basic, most simple things (like xkill) - in this case with no obvious replacement. And usually it stays broken, because the Wayland folks mostly seem to care about Automotive, Gnome, maybe KDE - and alienating everyone else (e.g., people using just an X11 window manager or something like GNUstep) in the process."
