I worked for a guy who had one in triple green. He liked to have me drive it when we went to jobs, and that thing was tough to drive on the narrow streets of downtown. I loved it
Bill took the words right out of my mouth, when I saw the interior and the bench seats . . . It's the 1st lincoln that I've seen w/out split front seats from that era. . . A very rare car , yet still beautiful
The 1 of 9 refers only to the color and trim combination, and does not include the vinyl top in that calculation on the Marti Report. Though to see one without a vinyl top is certainly unusual. What a beauty.
You know I am a Caddy Guy but this steely roof Lincoln grabbed my attention, It looks so classy! When I was a kid in Brooklyn, our neighbor's friend had a Lincoln like this. It was also kind of rare cause it had the factory vinyl roof but the front of the roof had a fixed glass panel sunroof. I'm not sure if that was a factory thing or not, but I never saw another one like it.
Very oddly optioned. It's a base Continental with external thermometer, automatic headlights and AM/FM stereo cassette player. All of those options sill costed extra on the Town Car, Collector's Series and Williamsburg Editions. A beautiful car but I need the Town Car trim with vinyl roof, opera window and wide fixed glass top or power glass moonroof.
Looks like Uncle Tricky’s car. He was always around where I grew up because the tailor who made a lot of the suits for the Mob lived in my neighborhood. It looked longer and had that backdoor setup like the Panther body Cartier L. Nice car always love my high school graduation year cars.
This black Lincoln is really beautiful. I must admit the Cutlass Vista Cruiser caught my eye. I really enjoy your channel and the great classics you offer for sale. Unfortunately I’m a bit too old to drive these beauties.
I like that it doesn't have the vinyl top, which must have been all but standard equipment when new. Also I like the roof without opera windows in the C post. This car was delivered a few weeks before I started my first "real" job ;) Yes the colour scheme is really sharp.
The standard Continental interior is so beautiful in the 75-79 models. If ordered in leather, one would actually have a much nicer interior vs the Town Car option that used a blend of leather and vinyl in the seating surfaces. The standard bench seat has that full-width piece of leather and each seating surface is a large piece of leather with the biscuit-style section sewn on top of it instead of many small individual pieces of leather sewn together. The base seat with the leather option is actually the plushest, most deluxe of all the choices.
Factory delete vinyl top! WOW! So Awesome! Didn't even know such a thing existed, well I guess a whopping 9 were built in this color as a slick top, this is probably the only one left on earth!
The "only 9" mention in the Marti report may (I say MAY) not necessarily include the lack of a vinyl top. So many black Continentals from that period had leather interiors and nearly all of those would have been in black, gray or red. The beige cloth was a real rarity in the 70s for any Lincoln.
The quick glance I got of the gas and the brake pedal, I would say that mileage is accurate. I am curious to see the build sheet that is behind the back seat for the car.
Pretty cool, especially since most of these were optioned as Town Car/Coupe. I always thought the standard interior looked plenty luxurious and, depending on the day, actually more inviting (and certainly more dignified) and the upmarket version. Though I don't think (not sure) you could get dual control seats with this trim - a drawback, especially if you've got some height disparity in the family. Certainly looks cleaner and even more dignified without the vinyl roof / opera windows. - and yet they optioned it up with power accessories, etc. My guess is that the original owners were people who could have bought the Town trim, but not to, specifically for the dignified look.
Wow -- what a beauty! I'm not sure I'd call it oddly optioned; appears to me the original owner stripped away the gaudy '70s stuff -- vinyl roof, opera windows, flashy interior and wheel covers -- and the result especially in this color combo is a car that clearly shows it heritage/lineage from the iconic '61-'69 Engel designs. Other commenter may be right -- with the low miles and appearance could be a funeral home car.
Interesting car. This is the base Continental. Town Car added a 50/50 front seat called Twin Lounge Seats. I prefer cloth on the interior, and I definitely prefer the slick top. Such a beauty. The only downside to a 79 is that the 460 was no longer available. It was 400 CID only. The 351M and this 400 were the last of the "Cleveland" engine family. 79 was the last year for them. Starting in 80, all Ford V8 passenger cars moved to the Windsor engines in either 302 or 351 CID.
Yeah, the 400 was a dog, especially by 1979's smog & 2V carburetor... Our '71 high compression 460 sedan would have left these models half a state behind. 😢
I believer that "trim code" refers to the interior, Code BU being the cloth bench seat in Champagne; so only 9 black Continentals came with the beige cloth bench seat!
@@christianbugatticg Oh yes, me too. I REALLY loved the Diamond Jubilee Edition, all in metallic gold, with gold treatment to the rub strips and gold paint on the sides of the turbine vanes of the wheels! Even the moon roof might have had gold tint... Sighhhh (And what I really remember from my friend's parents' brochure, is that it was the first car to have a standard fuel range readout. The 1st Seville had analog Bendix fuel injection, with a very rare trip-computer option, but every Mark V DJE had the fuel gauge with Miles to Empty below it.)
I find it odd that Ford was not big on seatback map pockets in those years, even in the top trim, while GM was already actively exploring these horizons in often imaginative ways.
Nice car - the black and tan colors make it look not as dated compared to some late 1970s color combinations. However, my eye was drawn to the 1968 (I think) T-Bird.
