Please forgive my mistakes in this video, I have been producing two videos a day all week recovering from Covid, I have had little rest and oddly got the Dukes and Kent and their wives the wrong way round and said 1957 rather than 1917 at one point. Please don't remind me of these mistake endlessly dear viewers - if you do I might just scream!!!!

@@richardring272 The more that I watch this channel and see how these people exalt themselves, the more I am disgusted by the institution of monarchies. Those past coronations were hideous. I agree with you and we'll just have to see how much Charles has pared this ceremony down and what follows.

Monarchy matters. Tradition matters. We want to belong and to matter. Symbols help. We don't abolish Shakespeare because 'it doesn't relate to this day'. We don't ditch the classical arts amd music- because we have 'moved on'. Somethings have value whatever the day. And we all enjoy dressing up for the important stuff. Even just a wedding say. Bring on our bling!

Thanks for this video as I am seeing alot of debate on this subject. Catherine for example is said to be considering wearing a floral headress instead of a tiara and the sapphire Choker that Diana, Princess of Wales wore so often. The State Opening of Parliament looks wrong when the Royal family wear day dress while all around them are peers in robes. The King and Queen will stand out looking impossibility antiquated if they are the only ones wearing robes and jewellery. The Coronation of Elizabeth ll doesn't look odd because everyone is wearing robes and coronets etc. If you're going to have a Coronation then you have to do it properly.

For those who may not know, George Jetson was a character on an American animated television show called "The Jetsons". Produced by William Hannah and Joseph Barbera who also made "The Flintstones", it has a similar concept to that show but is set in the space age rather than the stone age.

Thanks for another great video. Hope at least the Prince of Wales will be robed as he is doing homage. Doubt if the other royal princes will be robed. As the Dukes of Sussex and York are not working royals it would be rather inappropriate for them, I think, and to avoid controversy the royal dukes of Edinburgh, Gloucester, and Kent, dutiful gentlemen that they are, will probably refrain also. I think, in addition to abbreviating the service, that the decsion to have only the Prince of Wales of the royal princes to do homage was to avoid controversy about the status of the dukes of York and Sussex. Glad to hear that peers attending who wish to do so can wear their robes. Certainly the peers having roles in the service and processions should be dressed in the traditional style. A last minute decision due to backlash? The Lord Mayor of London has announced he will wear the mayoral robes worn by his predecessor in 1953. Don't see how any one could prevent him anyway. Hopefully, he will also process to the Abbey in his state coach. I was disappointed to learn that the Speaker of the House of Commons isn't going to use his state coach although it is on display at Westminster Hall.

In the post-coronation review by several friends, they called it "coronation light" because of the absence of robes, tiaras, coronets, etc. While I also would have liked to have seen the whole show all stops pulled out, I realize that given the current situation in Britain that would have been a horrible move for the future of the monarchy. I think the compromises made to both reflect the new multi-cultural Britain and a still classy but scaled down bling was a sound choice to position the monarchy for some new changes to keep it alive and relevant

Allan, I think you had a slip of the tongue at 7:30. I'm pretty sure that is Prince George, the Duke of KENT (not Gloucester). George was the killed in a plane crash during WWII. He was the father of the current Duke of Kent. His wife in the photo, Princess Marina, was Prince Philip's older first cousin. That's probably why the Queen was so close to her cousin Edward, Duke of Kent. The two families are intertwined and related in different ways. Edward is practically a "double cousin."

Prince Edward is the child of a monarch and so is entitled to use the style of Royal Highness. Lady Louise is the granddaughter of a monarch through the male line and so is entitled to be styled Royal Highness but her parents chose not to give her that style but to choose Lady Louise instead. Oh the 1969 coronet looks wonderful! Certainly not traditional.
The orb looks like a captured Golden Snitch (Harry Potter) rather than anything else 💖💕
Have to say the ermine en masse is not impressive and looked like old neglected felt at times.
Many thanks for all these extra details, Allan!

Please forgive my mistakes in this video, I have been producing two videos a day all week recovering from Covid, I have had little rest and oddly got the Dukes and Kent and their wives the wrong way round and said 1957 rather than 1917 at one point. Please don't remind me of these mistake endlessly dear viewers - if you do I might just scream!!!

I think it's ashame the current royals won't get to experience the pomp and circumstance. What good is being 24/7 in the piblic eye if you can't have the pomp and circumstance when it's appropriate.

It's all a bit funny that being a 'Prince' as such gives no precedence and they rely on relationship to the Sovereign or former Sovereign or having a peerage for precedence.

@@allanbarton Indeed. i found it all very bland. Sadly I think we will never see coronets again. i suspect William will go for an even more modernized coronation. in my opinion queen elizabeths coronation was the last true traditional sacred coronation.
I'm also a bit outraged at the BBC for not hiring you to educate the viewers about the coronation and its history. huge missed opportunity and a big mistake.

As much as im sure everyone wanted to go the teaditional route, bland was the best way. A lot of people in this world are bitter, jealous, full of hate and exude nothing but malice at the slightest provocation, in a cost of living crisis, going full glam would have been in poor taste and wpuld have attracted the hate speech of anti-monarchists and communists.

It is my understanding that the very few of the pierage that are allowed to appear due to Charles III insisiting that those who are allowed to attend were chosenon by lottery. They all are instructed by his majesty not to wear their coronets or robes which has been a tradition in all the previous coronations.

I can't help but feel sorry for the poor ermines if past traditions are followed. Given the pro-environmental sentiments of several key players, I don't think we'll see anything which would cause British citizens to immediately lash out at the newly crowned sovereign.

The coronation chair of King and queen is at same level. (King's chair dose not even have steps like Queen Elizabeth had😢. And why they didn't raised the scaffoldings in the abbey. Why the procession is too short?. I think we'll never get to see the treditional coronation😢😞. Why leader's of others faith and idolworshipers are allowed to even enter the LONDON. CHARLES forgot that his ancestor king Richard did crusade. What's happening......😢. It's only the ANGLICAN PROTESTENT CHRISTIAN CEREMONY POMP AND PAGENTRY. we lost it... My expectations was it will be the greatest coronation in the history of uk or maybe the whole world...sad 😭.
