I watched this to see why my PSP Ultimate text kerning was not working properly. You seemed to be having the same problem. My solution was to uninstall all the additional software that came with the program and then repair PSP. All my text kerning worked after that, I thought that might help you as well.
    Cheers

Thank you for this tutorial. I'm now started to appreciate my Corel Paintshop Pro product. Things that were easy to do in my old other brand software and I've been frustrated at how unintuitive some of the simple functions like text, text drop shadows, masks and gradients are.

I am unable to recreate the workspace used in the tutorial. 1.) How to frame the area where you type the text? 2.) How to frame the gradient display under the "Materials" heading on the right?
I have PaintShop Pro 2019. Thanks.

      1) The way to get these images separately, you can go to Windows and UNcheck the Tabbed Document option.
      2) I am not sure what you mean by "frame the gradient", but is it possible that it has to do with the way my Materials Properties dialogue window might be different than yours? If so, it is because I am using the Classic mode. You can set that under File > Preference > General Program Preference > Palettes and check the "Use classic Material Palette".

Thank you for your reply. Both of my questions were answered. It is things like this that sometimes make me think "Oh you have the wrong version or something." When nothing looks the same. I have made the modifications you gave in your reply and now it looks correct. Thanks again.

I've been going over the creation of your "path" or curved line and no matter how hard I try I get a jagged, shakey, curved line. How did you make yours so smooth? Anyone?

    • @CreationCassel
      @CreationCassel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

One trick to consider is to increase the Tracking value. The smaller it is, the more it will "catch" every single move. If you set it to a value around 40-60, you will get smoother lines.

Do you know of any forums that help with JASC Paint Shop Pro 7.0 issues?

I don't think there is any forum specifically dedicated to such an old version but if you visit the user-to-user forum, you might find other members using that version or able to help: forum.corel.com/EN/

Are you missing the settings for the Text tool? Maybe F4 would recover the Tool Option palette for you.

I have 2019 but my layout doesn't look like this at all, and the text is the most frustrating thing to get right. I'm trying to do a print book cover including the spine, and it is impossible. Where can I find info to help me do what I need to do? This video did not address it. I can't figure out how the person in the video has things laid out like she does such as the MATERIALS and the LAYERS tabs on the right, I don't have those, and what I need to do should be so simple yet it is impossible and right now I feel like Ive wasted my money buying this program.

The palettes can be added or removed by going through View > Palette and choosing which ones you want.
The Materials palette is set to use the classic one. You can get the same one by going to File > Preferences > General Program preferences > Palette and check the "Use classic Material Palette".
If you have other questions about how my program is set up, you can always visit my sites and contact me through there:

Text editing in PaintShop Pro has always been very lame, the weakest part of the software. Even creating a basic text box is difficult, you have to do a selection... then selecting the text works very bad, and also justifying it works bad (there is no difference between justified and forced justified, that seems like a bug). I updated several times, each year a costly update hoping that the basic functions have been improved, instead you get a couple of new useless functions and a program more bloated year after year. So 2018 will be my last PaintShop Pro.

Not sure what you mean by "text box" Lorenzo, but creating text in PaintShop Pro is very similar to creating text in Photoshop. Left, right and center alignment is very similar too. When it comes to justify, then you do need a selection first (or a vector shape) and wrap the text inside it. Then Justify and Force Justify become functional (that's how it is in Photoshop too). It makes sense because justification needs defined boundaries. Btw, the difference between Justify & Force Justify is that the former does not consider the last line of the text.
