  • Watch how to remove and install a John Deere AutoConnect Mower Deck on a 1023e, 1025r, and 1026r. This applies to the John Deere 54D 54" drive over mower deck as well as the John Deere 60D 60" drive over mower deck. We hope you enjoy this brief tutorial and that it helps you with your John Deere AutoConnect mower deck installation.
A few tips on uninstalling and installing a John Deere AutoConnect deck include:
Keep the objective in mind of getting the bottom edge of the mower deck to touch the ground.
Ensure you're on a smooth, level surface.
Release your gauge wheels before lowering the deck to the ground.
If your rear hanger arms won't lock or release, give the deck a little wiggle.
Make sure you're in four wheel drive and low range.
Most important, after removed, make sure to raise your hanger arms to the highest position. You want to keep the arms and PTO connector high and out of the way while doing utility work to avoid potential damage.

The deere in your video is very nice! Shes optioned with the switch, to raise and lower the deck, which is nice. Looks like there are additional hydraulics in the rear. Deere designed it without a cab, so you can enjoy the full effect of how well that engine sounds

Yes, she's a very clean machine. That switch to raise and lower is really cool as well. :)

You forgot to mention that when you drive back over the mower deck for reinstallation, "listen for the click" as the rear silver attatch lock snaps into place on the mower deck. Nice video demonstration.

Hard to hear that and it doesn't always happen. However, I did put a note in the video that those silver latches often times lock into place on their own :)
Thanks for watching and the feedback!

Good Works Tractors. Understood. I can usually hear it click on mine. Its a 2017. What year is yours? Awesome video. These gauge wheels are somewhat confusing to me as ya cant use them for the mower deck height adjustments while mowing & they dont pivot if they were to be used in such a manner. Perhaps im not understanding something about them. . . . . . . . i dunno.

Hey love all of your videos and watch them weekly. I have a John deere 1025R and the belly mower deck front hanger arm angle is way to high and gets caught on the front metal guard. Do you have any videos or could you create one to show how to adjust the deck hanger arm? Tried to get service department to fix it multiple times but they are horrible and I can’t tell how to adjust it. Thank you

I just picked up a new 1025R and I’m having a hard time with the rops position how did you get yours to hang down the way it is without hitting the three-point hitch or bouncing against the toolbox. Do you have a different type of bracket at the top?

Looks like a 54”. I ordered mine w a 60. Dealer told me it’s easier to couple and a better deck. Thoughts?

If you read the various JD forums, then you'll get opinions all over the map. No one size fits all in my opinion. However, connecting and disconnecting is the same regardless of deck size.

I have a 2018 1025r and I have trouble if I try to take the deck off on flat hard concrete it seems to always move. I even got it stuck so bad I bent a rod and had to jack the tractor up to get the deck off. In your video I see the lock slipped back into place and you had to unlock the latch again, maybe that is what happens with mine. How do you know that’s the problem when your sitting on the tractor, if you start to back up and the deck moves? I thought it would probably move some before it disconnected. I seem to have better luck on the grass then concrete. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Couple things to keep in mind/try...
The overarching goal is to get the mower deck to be resting on the ground. make sure the mower cut height is all the way down to the install position, make sure gauge wheels are released, and then lower the deck. The bottom edge of the deck should pretty much all be touching the ground. Not entirely, but most of it.
Then, flip that silver retainer bracket up. It should stay unlocked. Put the tractor in low range and four wheel drive and back up. That latch is spring loaded, so if you don't open it the entire way, then it will try to spring back closed.
Many times when you drive back over the deck, that spring loaded latch will automatically release and go into the locked position behind the black rod.
Hopefully that helps, otherwise you may need something to be adjusted slightly on your deck.

I would have preferred him to show us with the camera exactly which knobs and levers he was turning. The vantage point of the video camera only captures the side of the tractor which does not have the knobs and levers.
