  • H-D Softail Sport Glide Voltage Regulator Cover Fix - Here I build and install a cover grill for the Harley Softail voltage regulator which can get easily damaged from road debris. This fix will protect it and can easily be made at home with little effort too.

    Slight problem I see with that, is the mash is going to allow mud and small stones through, that could bung up the fins. It will need quite a bit of cleaning. I just sprayed mine with Anti stonechip paint. It is only for cooling anyway, so nothing will come out if hit by stones, just looks a mess. The stonechip paint stops that chipping.

    • @RevelatorAlf
      @RevelatorAlf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It shouldn't really and also a lot better than not having it there in the first place. Yes stone chip paint is good too. Cheers

      Problem with stonechip paint is that it's thick and rubbery. It is likely to impair the heat rejection, which might be ok if you live in a cold climate, but here where January temperatures can reach 40°C it could lead to problems.

    Nice easy fix and once you had sprayed it black it looks really good, hear east to protect it. 👍👍

    Good job Regulator Alf !
    Has not been too much of an issue on my 10 years' old Softail Blackline (maybe the front fender is longer...). However, the horn, located above, is partly damaged with rust, I suspect due to salt spread on the roads during winter... Really needs some re-painting or replacement...

    • @RevelatorAlf
      @RevelatorAlf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I can see that happening too. I'll have a new video on horns coming out soon too. Cheers

    You can start thinking to set up your own production of protection gear. H-D is selling a lot after market products but you found a few they don’t sell but people might be interested. 👍🏻✌️🏍

    Hi Alf and many thanks for this video. For the connector with the three pins on the regulator, is there a special position to put it back because it seems to go in diferents positions ? Thanks for your help !✌️

    Again thanks for posting this, very informative. Glad I watched as was about to buy a 2017 cover glad I didn’t as you say it doesn’t fit my 2020.
    I must admit though with all these videos you could be forgiven for thinking Harleys are an absolute bloody nightmare and you have to fix, modify or bodge just about everything. This should not be case on premium product.
    Am I barking up wrong tree or do you agree?

    I bought one for my 18 Fatboy. Same as what had been on models before 18.

    • @RevelatorAlf
      @RevelatorAlf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK that's interesting because all the ones I saw and researched would not fit. Even H-D said they wouldn't. But I suppose this way would save some money. Where did you get yours from? Cheers.

    Hi Alf,
    Nice job for temporary fix. I am sure HD will come up with one soon. They do not miss a chance to sell people stuff.
    I live in California and get things from a company called JPCycles. I know they have them for M8 touring models, but not sure about the softail M8. Check their website.

    Hi Alf, the German company Fehling produced a voltage regulator cover. See: www.fehling.de/images/preise/imagebbce83339c23.jpg
    I stumbled accross this by accident. Checked with the company and they discontinued this product due to lack of succes. I think the lack of succes is directly related to the fact that nobody knew they made it ;)
