Thanks Lewis, it’s great when you put different books together especially on realisation and awakening. Also the comments on your channel are a class above. I’ve just listened to a book on audible. On awakening it’s one of the best books I’ve ever come across on this stuff. the guy reading it has a voice like yours. One that transmits knowledge with ease. The book is
Perfect Brilliant Stillness. Read by David Carse. There’s a bit in the book that talks about trying to explain awakening to someone asleep. And he talks about another book Flatlands a
2 d world where a square sees a 3d sphere and can’t explain it to any of his 2d friends as he’s only got 2d language. Please check this out if you haven’t already 🙏

I have heard of the 2d flatlands concept, but not the book you referenced to. I’ll look into it. I have a few audible credits to spare 😜👍

Hi Lewis- A wonderful allegorical book you might consider reading is Rene Daumal's Mount Analogue.

That’s a great shout! I have a copy and read it many years ago. It’s going into the next poll. Thanks 👍

I've never heard anyone talk about A,B,C influences and their relationship to the law of 3. If A, influence is the active influence in their life then C influence must be passive for them . If C influence is active then influence A must be passive. B influence must be a mixture of them both.

Great avenue of inquiry Graham. I’ll give it some thought and try and talk about it on a stream. 👍

@@bookclub5291 C is the seed, A is the soil, B is the tree. If the soil of world A is deep and rich , the tree will grow big and strong and its roots enter deep into the earth . If the soil of world A is shallow and poor the tree will be weak and will be uprooted even in the lightest wind and fall by the wayside.

I have never taken to plato's allegory of shadows on a cave wall . To cast a shadow the light must be behind you. No man can see his own shadow even if he turns round the light must be behind him . We need the light in front of us to light the way. I have no desire to walk into a cave wall.

It is an allegory after all, I don't think that they are supposed to be taken literally.

@@occultislux my reply was allegorical not to be taken literally . Allegorys are the language of 'making alike '

I prefer the idea of being in a 'fog' and seeing strange shapes all around us that we cannot make out. by condensing the fog our sight becomes clearer and we are no longer afraid of shadows.

Are you aware of the work of Ken Keyes Jr, author of 'A Handbook to Higher Consciousness'?

    • @bookclub5291
      @bookclub5291  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have not no. I’ll be sure to look into it 👍

I think there are striking similarities between, between Keyes Jr's work and Gurdjieff's and overlaps with Alfred Korzybski/Neuro-Linguistic Programming and the Taiyi Jinhua Zhongzhi, take a look. Gurdjieff's School was definitely not the only 'Fourth Way' School, going by Gurdjieff's definition of what a Fourth Way School is. Keep up the good work.

It might be harder for people of age to self-realize because of cemented conditioning. On the other hand, wisdom tends to come with old age. Maybe when you are older and closer to death your consciousness shoots through the roof. When you have lived a whole life of pointless automatic activity you can then see first hand that it has been leading nowhere. Whatever someones age is I don't think it's helpful to discourage them from the path of enlightenment

I totally agree. Age gives us a unique perspective on life that cannot be gained anyother way. The way is harder but not impossible and the harder you work the more you are paid.

@@bookclub5291we cannot escape enmass otherwise the 'guards ' will notice. Only an individual has a chance to escape unnoticed. One of my favourite sayings of gurdjieff is " when you live amongst wolves, howl like a wolf". Don't let the right hand know what the left hand is doing.

Both the carriage and the airplane are machines.
Once you figure out how to operate the airplane, you have a better, more powerful, more capable machine.
    BUT.
You are not an Initiate... not even close.
There are many examples of intelligent and aware individuals.
To be an Initiate is an entirely different cup of tea.
However, you need to know how to operate the airplane in order to have the foundation needed to start the work to become an Initiate.
'The Fourth Way' describes only the preparatory stages.

    • @grahamfortune1528

The power of a machine comes from the fuel it consumes. The horse that pulls the carriage feeds on hay. The aeroplane feeds on aviation fuel. If you gave the horse aviation fuel it will end up with mad horse disease, if you feed an aeroplane hay you'll be lucky if the engine starts. Different machines require different fuels . The machines exist , it is the fuel that is missing.
Gurdjieff wrote only self initiation is possible. A teacher can guide you along the path but only you can walk it.
