  • ‪@WaybackRewind‬ @17:46 Sample Footage. I unbox my brand new, but somehow also 4 years old, camera and give you an overview and some sample footage. I am somewhat shocked by the lack of power zoom lenses. Didn't have a clue this was even a thing. These cameras are touted as being so well suited to video that the scarcity of power zoom lenses came as a surprise and is a mystery to me. Despite my obvious disappointment I give it a good outing and see for yourself. I don't know why manufacturers leave off features. There never is a camera with everything, at any price.

The G95/G90 is a brilliant canera at the prices available today (2024) and the options it has are very comprehensive. There's a lot of setting up to do but when you get it right it performs very well. I do agree with your thoughts on power zooms. It is much easier to power zoom whilst videoing. Its not so easy to smoothly zoom manually. Years ago we just kept the camera still whilst videoing a moving subject. All change now - panning - zooming - vlogging - selfies - low light - content creation - AI.

Apparently I am in the minority wanting a power zoom lens. But not being able to find an M43 power zoom in an appropriate range was a deal breaker. It didn’t even occur to me to look for that prior to purchase because I am so accustomed to having it.
      Thanks for watching.

I'm old enough to grow up with manual focus, metering(ISO/ASA, in the old days) and darkroom(burning/dodging). I actually feel fortunate. Manual focusing is not a big deal. But, I'm an old guy.

Manual focusing is not a problem, I was complaining about manual zoom. During video the lack of a power zoom makes it difficult to get certain shots. I guess it's an amatuer tactic to use power zoom but I would rather have it than not have it.

@@WaybackRewind I had manual everything. But, I also drove a manual transmission car, no microwave, cellphone....

@Lepewhi I like having manual options too. My everyday car is a manual transmission which is extremely rare in the US.

@@LepewhiI’m right there with you. I also use a manual lens for zone focusing when I street shoot.

The point of interchangeable lenses is to change lenses. :). You could've gotten the 100-300 which acts like 200-600 on M43

I totally get that and within days I bought a new lens, but I didn't like it. Within the M43 line, there is no power zoom lens in existence with the range I wanted. 200-600 is much too much. I wanted a power zoom that goes from wide to tele, like 25 to 300 equivalent. Surely I can't be the only one who wants that? but apparently so.

Yeah, people want a camera that can do everything, but the problem is physics. I want a pocket camera like my ZS200 with a M43 sensor, or maybe even APSC, and let's make it 2000mm zoom like the Nikon P950.
I loved the convenience of the P950 zoom range but it was really bad at birds in flight due to very slow autofocus due to the type of tech that can be used on a tiny sensor paired with a massive lens. This is why I'm always stuck in a cycle of buying and selling compact cameras, high zoom bridge cameras, interchangeable lens ones with a wide prime, high zoom, both, sell one, sell both, start over, decide to have two cameras that excel in their own things, realize I only ever use one, sell, etc.
Wanting a full range of zoom in one lens isn't unreasonable but you'd end up with a monstrous thing that isn't very good. But wanting power zoom on an interchangeable lens camera, I think you actually are the only one, lol. Just twist it. Saves money, battery, and weight.

@wintrymix all good points, but at the end of the day, I guess I'm a camcorder guy since those lenses do exactly what I need. Camcorders are supposed to be obsolete, but I don't understand all the fuss over interchangeable lens camera when the lenses have such limitations albeit to large sensors and physics but limitations nonetheless Thanks for commenting.

If you don't know real cameras, you can't judge a real camera.
Fz300 is a toy. I own a fz300 and when i bought a G90 (g95 for Europe), the last thing i was looking for, was power zoom.

Maybe so, but I like having a power zoom. I returned my G95 due to lack of a suitable lens. Maybe you are more picture oriented, but for me for video the G95 is lacking in my humble opinion.
      Thanks for watching.

As an old school video person I will double down and say I prefer a camcorder over any camera. I tried the G95 and honestly didnt like the cropped video and lack of power zoom over a decent range. Maybe it is a "real camera" compared to the "toy" of the FZ300 but there is no camera in the Panasonic line I would prefer. Not even the S5ii, which is a real camera, but a cinematic power zoom if it exists is crazy expensive. Honestly tell me what camera is good for video? because I haven't found one.
