  • My review of the Paralenz Vaquita continues
In this series of videos I will show you how I build my underwater video and under photography set up using a GoPro Hero 7 Black a GoPro Hero 8 Black and the new Paralenz Vaquita. I am not an expert photographer just someone who is learning as he goes along
I will share with you my failures and successes to help you in setting up your GoPro and Paralenz.
Lighting is a major factor in the underwater video, therefore, I will be testing and reviewing several cost-effective video light systems
In this episode, I give my 5 reasons why toy should not purchase a Paralenz Vaquita. Coming next are the five improvements I want Paralenz to make to the Vaquita.

My Product Review Policy (as of 1 September 2020) is as follows:
I currently purchase every item I review directly from the retailer, they do not know I will be reviewing the product. I have no affiliations with any supplier or manufacturer and receive no freebies or commissions. If I do have a manufacturer ask me to review a product, I will state it right from the get-go. Whenever I review a product it will include underwater testing and wherever possible performance testing.
Please subscribe and come with me on this journey.
I would love to hear your comments and ideas. I am happy to try things out so just let me know.

Hi Brian, thanks a lot. I like especially, when reviews also point out the drawbacks clearly.

Thanks Brian, I have been thinking about this for some time. The fact I love photographing nudis has got me thinking that I'll still stick to using the TG6 for video.

TG6 I believe is the best compact macro camera out there @critterhunter uses only the TG6. I would like to do a collab with you where i use my Hero 9 macro setup and we shoot the same nudis and benchmark the results

@@DubaiDiver Hi Brian, sounds like a plan, and it would also give you another reference point.
I believe the sensor in the Olympus is of a similar size to the GoPro so they should be evenly matched.

Yes, i tend to agree with the app and the close up shots, very annoying. Biggest pro is the footage color quality. Another weakness is picture stability

Brian, this is a bit dated, but wish I had seen your video earlier. I have used GoPro for some time, but was intrigued with the sleek shape of the Vaquita and the fact you could include depth and temperature with the video. But having dove with the Vaquita several times now, your video is right on. Additionally, the sound is considerably less. And while I am no fan of an hour of video with very loud bubble sound, at least I have the option to edit the sound lower, or out. With Vaquita, it is so quiet, I don't see any value in it. Anyway, looks like I will be selling my Vaquita and return to GoPro. Oh, did I forget to mention my red filter is far more satisfying on videos than Vaquita's "auto correction"? Sure, it's probably accurate to the conditions as we see them while diving, but cheating with deep blue hues afterward is far more satisfying... Cheers!

Well that sucks. I just threw my GoPro in the dustbin. It broke after about 10 dives. Horrible video quality when viz is bad or if you dive a bit deeper. Housing got damp inside at about 20 meters causing moisture to form on the lens. This got worse with every dive until the camera stopped working. I can’t be bothered to have it fixed since it’s useless for diving. Also too fiddly to change settings and I was forever making videos of the sea bottom by getting the on and off switches wrong. I don’t want a camera with a housing or settings that are too difficult to change underwater. I was also constantly hitting my left hand on corals trying to change settings in swift currents. And lets not mention people with enormous cameras constantly hitting me because they are so freaking focused on their camera that they don’t watch out for other divers. I had high hopes for the Vaquita.

Sad to hear about the GoPro. There maybe hope yet. I have just received the second generation Paralenz Vaquita to test. I don’t think they would have sent it to me if there were not significant improvements. Its going to take me a few weeks to get it tested. Will try and get an initial review up in a couple of weeks.

Its a well made product and is worth the money if you are diving deeper than 40m/130feet. Battery life has improved will be uploading another video maybe today latest Monday. My current biggest is issues are lack of EIS promised from the start. The DCC is ok but still being improved. It’s annoying have to charge it between every dive particularly when you are on a liveaboard. They launched a product before it was ready and have been slow to fix the issues. I think you can they have a return policy so you could get your money back.

@@DubaiDiver well I bought this second hand hence no return. If it is better than the original I can tolerate teething issues and have the time for them to perfect it. If however they change models again I won’t be happy.
I will be diving freshwater to about 20’ mostly then if I get the opportunity to go deeper I will. If I need to take a light with me I have Polarion Dual abyss s

Hi Brian. Another balanced review. I hope Paralenz receive the feedback in good faith in the way you have intended. They can never improve and produce a superior product if they can't have good honest feedback on where improvement is needed. I will stick with my Go Pro for the time being.

    • @DubaiDiver

We can only wait and see I sincerely hope they improve it. One of their testers at least he or she says he or she is has commented trying to put things in their favor but his or her claims are based on a firmware update not available to myself and the general public. He or she did agree with my testing on battery life.

Wow, harsh review but I do appreciate your input. I very much like my Paralenz Dive+ and have been looking forward to the Vaquita but I will definitely wait. As for the App, yes, it really does need help, and has for a few years now. Looking forward to tomorrow's video. Thanks Brian!

Well done Brian. All good reasons for not getting the Vaquita. I'm still trying to get a test model from Paralenz, but it's very tiring and after listening to all your detailed reviews, I kind of don't really feel the urge to test it myself anymore... 😕 Too bad, it has the potential to be a fantastic camera. Looking forward to your thoughts in tomorrows video. 😉

Hi Matthias you should have been one of the 200 testers in 33 countries we keep hearing about. Amazing and maybe arrogant on Paralenz’s part that you were not part of the program. Their tag line I believe is made by divers for divers. Yet they also claim their staff are going through Open Water Course how weird is that? Maybe the tag line should be made by people learning to dive for people who already dive?

Hi Turgut thanks it’s a niche product that’s for sure put once they get it sorted it should be a good product. I was chatting with one of the tester, the latest version of firmware he has is giving 3 hour battery life. It will be released soon. He verified my battery test results were correct.
