This was an excellent review! It covered a lot of little things that I've not found in any other reviews. Currently have a 2019 Odyssey and i have to say the driving experience in this car is second to none. The power is phenomenal for ANY vehicle ... never mind a van. HOWEVER ... I absolutely HATE HATE the look of the Odyssey ... have never liked it from day one. (it was my wifes choice) Since I want a SUV but the wife insists on getting yet ANOTHER minivan (sigh) the look of the Carnival is the closest thing to an SUV as any other mini van out there. The only thing (for me) that is the big advantage of the Odyssey is the resale value and I must admit that's a biggee. The famed reliability of the Odyssey was not the case for us cause we've had just as much problems with it as any other car we've owned.

Interesting to see this comparison. We just bought a 2025 Honda Odyssey Sport (in Canada) over the 2025 Kia Carnival LX+ a few weeks ago.
We were coming from a 2004 Toyota Sienna LE8 that we had involuntarily totaled off in a fender bender.
A Sienna was off the table as the wait times were 8 months for FWD and 2 years(!) for AWD.
To us, it felt like Kia threw features at you like spaghetti at a wall, hoping it would stick.
The Odyssey, in contrast, felt like a more refined experience.
I really thought we would end up on the Carnival given invoice pricing and preponderance of feature.
However, Kia wanted a $10K premium above and beyond which made it an easy decision to get the Odyssey with its leather seats, sunroof, rear seat entertainment and power lift gate which the Carnival did not have in its trim.
I really like the Odyssey's digital/analog combination intrument cluster, not repurposing the climate/audio controls and using actual buttons for the climate controls rather than touch sensitive panel.
I had watched your individual reviews of the 2025 Odyssey and 2025 Carnival and found them to be much better overviews of the features than I got at the dealerships!
    😀

We went with an odyssey as well coming from a 2013 odyssey that we put 320k miles on. It still ran just fine when we sold it but we were ready for a new vehicle. The reliability of Hondas made it a no brainer for us. Honda and Toyota are more reserved when it comes to adding new features making sure they are fully refined and problem free before release which explains why they have less features for the money.

@CarConfections great video!. been reading up way too much about Carnival these past few months so already felt it was the winner but nice to see this. Personally feel the Kia could've won extra points on the ceiling vents since that's a big pain point for the Odyssey especially if you have little kids in car seats.
Would love if you guys could do a night review for the Carnival! Given the updated front lights, I'm curious how you would compare the non-SX Prestige trims to the 2024 models that had a "Poor" rating for visibility. thanks!

I recently rented the Honda for 8 days and about 750 miles. I strongly disliked the push button transmission, I never got used to it. You have to think about what to do every-single-time you use it. The memory seat was a pain, I had to push the seat memory button every time I started the van, and even then it never went to the correct position. Maybe there was something in the owner’s manual about how to use it, but Enterprise Rental conveniently left it out of the glove box. I thought, “but hey, it has a V-6!” When I got home and first drove my Toyota Highlander Hybrid (which “only” has a four cylinder) I was shocked about how much quicker it felt, probably because of the electric motor assist. There was no comparison, unless you really need the room get a 3-row SUV. (IMO)

They have the same utility and also drive similarly. You can make the point about reliability but there's no need to pretend the Odyssey does anything special over the Carnival. Cuz it doesn't.

@@victreebel170 They don’t have the same utility. The Carnival centre console is terrible. And the magic slide seats are #1 all time for transporting lots of kids. Which is why people buy vans. Not to mention the tailgating couch off the trunk. And yeah you must not understand driving dynamics if you think they drive similarly. The Carnival is a boat.

Honda needs to do a major redesign of the Odyssey Minivan. The Side Profile (Lightening Bolt) of the Odyssey is horrible and the tiny rear bumper is laughable! The Kia Carnival is more attractive truck like side view. The Front Clip on the Kia is BAD! The Kia Rear Clip is OK. Honda needs to take the like of the Pilot and Passport and slap them onto the Odyssey, this would dramatically improve the styling of the Odyssey and improve consumer acceptance.
