Miss your videos Brother thanks for the treat this Saturday morning. Nem is going to be a stunner!! Tanks looking great as usual. Don’t be a stranger for too long I never realized just how much I miss some Inappropriate!!
I love the little one getting so into what daddy's up too, so cute. What lights are you using? What sort of schedule would you suggest for bta only tank, thanks
from my knowledge I believe on both tanks he is using ecotech lights. But not sure on his schedule. I have 2 RBTA in my 80g mixed reef and I use saxby preset with AI primes.
MidWestReefer is right, I'm running 3 Radions G5 Pro over my tank at around 65% intensity, and with a AliExpress light bar in the back for the SPS. PAR-wise the anemones are sitting at around 170 - 220 PAR. Honestly BTAs are super forgiving in terms of parameters, I have kept them under anything from Power Compact, T5, to different LEDs. If you can grow LPS, most likely BTAs will be fine. If you are not confident in your lighting, you can supplement with slightly heavier feeding... I tend to feed once a week with a small portion of food. Higher light typically yield a brighter looking BTA. (typically) And... nobody knows for sure why they bubble up. 😝
The spots on the yellow tangs fins, are they flukes? I picked up a yellow tang and it has two of them it's still in QT so if they are I'd like to get rid of them 25:17
Sharp eye, there was a little white bit that disappeared after a day or two, I'm keeping an eye out. So far, so good. *knock on wood* Wishing you the best of luck with yours too
I think financing a tank setup is okay. I feel like it helps beginners get into a larger setup when its a bit scary to drop all that cash at once. Its when you get into payment plans on live stock where I will draw the line.
Hope that nem keeps it's colors, I've seen a lot of variant btas change color from tank to tank. I just picked up a rainbow Haddoni, 8+ inches, talk about a $ nem.
A bit of an update, the CSB dulled out to more of a RBTA with a bright yellow tip. I suspect the light in my Mangrove system is not as intense as Thirsty's among other things. Still a nice look but it'd be cool to get that crazy color back! Will hit up Thirsty's to see if he has any tip on color management. Rainbow Haddoni! May I ask how much? ($2,000?)

I pre-ordered a c. sunburst from thirstyreeft too! Super colorful, reds, oranges, greens, yellows when closed up under reefbrites and figi purples. When open, its that almost iconic orange... Best deal was in August-September then in November it was still a fraction of $1200.... nice guy for sure!
Another tank being over run by Zenia. Might as well be called weedia. I have a Colorado Sunburst coming next week. I'm wondering if it's from the same guy.
Man your within a couple hours of me, what fish stores have you found besides Lancaster thatfishplace. I can’t seem to find any good stores in southern pa or Maryland.
Love your channel,so much information having been into freshwater fish keeping for nearly 20 years, mainly south American cichlids I'm ready to try and have a go at reefing, soft corals to start with. Keep up the fantastic work you do for the hobby and I'll keep watching your channel.
I'm fine on financing for equipment or something..some of us don't have thousands to drop on a tank at one time. I am by no means rich or poor, and sometimes its nice to just have to pay a few bucks a month for a few months. I use it sometimes for when I buy things for when I need it asap so I will finance then juat pay off when payday hits. Or use it to buy new lights and then pay each month and then put the money from the selling of the old lights towards the finance amount.
Some people have budgets and stick to that budget. That shouldn’t prevent them from enjoying the hobby too. My overall thought is If someone is bad with money or can’t keep a proper budget, then It doesn’t matter what hobby they have wether it’s Reefing, or sneakers or even cars. I just feel like personal finance and people and their money is something personal because everyone’s situation is different. I have kids and everything I do I have to think about them (college is expensive - wait until you get that MIT bill for your son) The hobby wouldn't have grown to the size it is now if it was only accessible to people who can pay the full price upfront. it's all about access. Personally I feel like you - I would never make payments on fish or coral because once it’s dead, I still have payments for months with nothing to show for it, so it If can’t afford it at the time of purchase then I leave it alone. No shame in me saying that.
This makes sense. Each person's financial choice is theirs so I agree with your statement. And... I just tried to imagine myself continue to pay installments on some thing/some creature that I no longer have... oh man, I would never want to be in that position,, even beyond this hobby. I think one huge part that we didn't really focus on in terms of access is used gears, - that's where some of the best deals are found (I also got started via used equipment). Sort of like when a hobbyist closes his own door, he opens the door for other hobbyists. 😂
Coral in the USA is so expensive!! the last ultra Colorado sunburst I saw was under 250$ here in Canada. I noticed prices down there are extremely high. Supply and demand.... Sadly by the time you ship Canada to USA it would cost the same as down there. Tanks looking good! :)
I like the Sally Lightfoot crab they're really cool when they're small they're not a problem when they get bigger they can be when I had to reseal my hundred gallon tank I had to put my Sally Lightfoot into quarantine tank with my fish and for some reason I could not find him when I put them him back in the hundred gallon to this day I don't know where he is lol
Hey Reefer! I am in DC on the red line (no car) and stocking my first ever tank a 20 gal mixed . Can you recommend an lfs I should check out or an online shipper ?
Hey JD, congrats! Off the top of my head I can't think of any LFS that is really metro accessible, but if you could somehow link up with someone that drives, I'd recommend checking out Fintastic in Frederick along with Rick's that's 5 mins down the street; House of Tropicals; or Blue Ribbon Aquatics. Online, I'd check out The Coral Dragon - I have not visited / ordered from them but I consistently hear good things about them, the reason I recommend them is because apparently they have $15 shipping to local DC/MD/VA. 😎
I've been wanting purple and yellow tang, I've got my yellow, but my tank is 80g display low boy. So I dont think I would have the space for both. Maybe one day.
Blue Throat Trigger says reef safe but with “caution”. I can tel you to be very cautious with that purchase. I have one and he has ate two of my crabs one being a porcelain. I want to rehome him but he is impossible to catch.
not true imo, you can get E. quadricolor in gold/orange colouration for 50€, just keep in mind that the colour fade over time the larger the coral gets...
Added a 6 inch Achilles to my 320. Only fish that tried to bully was my small 2.5 inch Scopas😂. No aggression from big Desjardini, or Gem. Next move is to relocate fish from my 190 including a purple, orange shoulder and chocolate. Going to move them at once to dilute possible aggression.
Didn't you get really sick after handling some palys or something in the tank? Did you ever find out what caused that? I assumed that's why you are so careful with the gloves now. Good luck with the new anemone!
I did, although not entirely sure if it was due to Palys or linked to working in the tank. I wear gloves now mainly to make sure the stuff on my hands/arms (lotion, lots of baby oil) do not accidentally get into the tank. 😬
Sold hundreds of rose anemones in my shop back in the day and put a designer name on it and watch the price go thru the roof. When we bought trans shipped corals they have scientific name and location of harvest. I remember buying black tangs for a decent price and people beat my door down to buy them. Even sent some back to California to wholesaler's to resell to other stores.🤫
Thank you for that video! 🙂 Watch out for a change in the balance of power between the yellow and purple tang. My yellow one was also as restrainedly dominant as yours in the video and after that there was supposedly peace until one day the purple tang that came in later started attacking the yellow one. It attacked much more violently and persistently than the yellow one had before and never stopped. It would have killed the yellow one if I had not removed it....
Things were great for 2 or so weeks, now the Hippo is bullying the Purple while Yellow is totally cool with him. Thankfully the Hippo is mainly keeping the Purple away from the algae clip and not persistent about the chase, so there is hope.
@@InappropriateReefer could see that in your video. 👍 as long as it is like this, everything is ok. My purple tang had already bitten the fins off the yellow one when I finally caught it. But do not mean that the yellow one would have submitted! The two would have fought to the death (of the yellow)...😥
I like the Sally Lightfoot crabs they're really nice when they're small not a problem but when they get bigger they can be if I spent 1200 bucks on something like that I probably would be kicked out of the house lol

It's convenient even if you can afford to buy it cash in full the payments just make it feel like a smaller purchase I'm much more likely to buy 1k dollar fish or coral if I know the payments will be spread out over 6 months vs taking 1k chunk out of my spending budget instantly not because I can't afford but because than I would have to budget less going out to eat ect that month
I did buy an 800 dollar golden banana moray eel cash but thats because they didn't have any payment plans it was a local pet store just for reference:) but would have preferred the payments but had no issues paying all my bills n such
I second this. I've used the payment plans to buy corals I've always wanted but never wanted to drop large amounts of money at once. Even if i had the money for it. I feel much more comfortable spreading the payments than making one large one
Disagree on your thoughts with payment plans - easy enough for youtubers who get equipment via sponsorship like yourself. Pretty sure if you had to purchase all the equipment and your tank yourself in one go like many of us do you may of opted for a payment plan. Eg- a Red Sea reefer 525 with lights in the UK is £3k custom tanks over here are double what they are in the US. A 6 x2x2 from a leading brand brand will be anywhere between 3-5k. I don’t know anyone with that kind of cash to spend in one go. Life stock can and should be purchased gradually - so by no means does a. Payment plan for those trying to access what you call a luxury hobby mean that they are set up to fail or any less worthy of being in the hobby.
I agree with you to a certain extend; I agree with you that if I have to shell out $3K for tank, ~$2K on light, ~$1K on flow as startup cost, I probably would not have done it; but then again, this is based on my personal financial situation and everyone differs. Where I disagree with you though, is that those high end stuff is not the only option, instead of doing payment plans, I would turn to alternative brands that are not as costly (at probably 1/3 - 1/5 the cost) that I could have purchased in one go -- that was my main point. Or, instead of buying new, just buy used at a huge discount, that may be the most financially frugal way!
Yes, yes they are worth the money the color is stunning and the true csbs are hardy! I have about 12 started from one 5-6 years ago and wow when you have a full tank it’s such an amazing site!
Honestly these prices for corals are out of control. All these companies really need to chill. It’s keeping so many people from getting into this beautiful hobby because of how astronomically expensive it is. These companies care more about money than the animals. This whole notion of “ what people are willing to pay” is the biggest BS excuse
I sent you an email for a different style anemone guard I designed and made. Let me know if you want some I will ship them free! Have mp10 mp40 and mp60 versions. my version is a complete replacement instead of a slip on screen. let me know if you want some!
Hey man! Wish I saw this earlier.. I actually bought some Neat Aquatics wide flow MP10 & MP40 intake guards over Black Friday. If those don't pan out I'll hit you up, thank you for the kind offer!
Now when I buy a $1200 anemone I’ll tell my wife it was your idea!
😬😬😬
thanks for the idea
:)
That would never happen my wife would kick me out of the house 12 hundred bucks that's two mortgage payments for me

How do you manage with the Sun coral? The extra feedings must cause nutrients to go up
The tank is looking incredible 🔥 I dont mind waiting for your uploads, loving the content.

add my yellow at start of tank. year later add purple. same size. aggression for 2 days and now best friends. glad it worked for you. nice tank
Nothing demoralizes your sense of money like coral
Just got into saltwater after many years doing freshwater. Where did you get that tall structure where the purple tang likes to hang out?
I bought it used locally, I think it was a custom creation by Aquarocks (runs ~$200 - 300?)
Nice video! What brand is the powerhead in the mangrove tank? Thanks!
Out in my neck of the woods I see. Ricks and Fintastic are about 20 min from my house.

Honestly these prices for corals are out of control. All these companies really need to chill. It’s keeping so many people from getting into this beautiful hobby because of how astronomically expensive it is. These companies care more about money than the animals. This whole notion of “ what people are willing to pay” is the biggest BS excuse
We need a Walt Disney uodate
I sent you an email for a different style anemone guard I designed and made. Let me know if you want some I will ship them free! Have mp10 mp40 and mp60 versions. my version is a complete replacement instead of a slip on screen. let me know if you want some!
Hey man! Wish I saw this earlier.. I actually bought some Neat Aquatics wide flow MP10 & MP40 intake guards over Black Friday. If those don't pan out I'll hit you up, thank you for the kind offer!
