    Whew, I don’t do anything on this list. Dodged a bullet. Women really do age themselves with these things. The more natural and effortless, the better. A dewy glow, a pale lip and nail polish, hair that is healthy and shiny, solid color clothes that drape beautifully, in natural fibers…these are goals IMHO.

      I like black with my silver and white hair and I add a colorful scarf or even a sparkly brooch or necklace near the neckline to detract from the stark black. I agree black and white - cream looks more fresh.

    One caveat - workout sneakers work great for knee, foot, & back problems, especially for us ladies who wear size 10 shoes or larger. Orthopedic inserts don’t fit in tinier shoes. Most nicer women’s shoes don’t have a large enough toe box for bunions or wider feet. I had to wear sneakers to work & everywhere else when I tore my meniscus. The only other alternative may be men’s shoes. I’ll suffer with dressier shoes when I dress up but I can’t walk far in them (even flats or low heels) which is very restrictive for us active folks.

    • @NadaManley
      @NadaManley  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great point! You will definitely have to wear shoes that work for you when you have specific issues with your feet. Nothing is more important than that. Fortunately, there are a lot of athletic shoes that look really cute.

    Great things to think about. Also.....the bright red lipstick. Do we feel it's still ok? I see so many women wearing more neutral shades on their lips. Is that more tasteful now? Just wondering....

    • @JaneCrossan
      @JaneCrossan 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    • @wendigo1919
      @wendigo1919 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Some women suit a bright red lip and some women don't.. It's just that simple. It's has to suit your personality. I would say that many middle-aged women suit a softer lip suits them, while a bold lip often suits a more senior-aged woman. That being said, Nada suits the red lip because it suits her personality.. there are always exceptions.

      When you age, your teeth and lips age along with you. Nothing attractive about red lipstick on yellowed teeth and wrinkled lips

    • @MrClarkwh
      @MrClarkwh 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Bright red lipstick certainly works well for so many people think it really depends on your skin color. I love a certain red lipstick on myself. It works for me and right now. I'm in an area where there's a lot of more brownish skin people. My husband is getting surgery and a Mexican hospital and everyone almost is wearing bright red and it's gorgeous. I think it really depends on the skin color.

    • @NadaManley
      @NadaManley  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. You have to pick a lip shade that flatters you. I look dead in neutral shades, and very dark matte shades are aging on me. A classic red lip can work on many women, but we all have to pick what suits us. I do color analysis on all of my clients and help them choose lip colors that make their teeth look white and make them look bright and fresh. :)

    Hi. Thanks for the tips. I do agree with the white soles looking better than the beige color ones- but, I’m recently traveled and knew I would be doing a lot of walking in the city and countryside. I specifically did not want to wear shoes with the white soles because I didn’t want the dirt from the city streets/sidewalks and from the gravel/dirt country roads/paths “showing up” on the white soles. Well- I couldn’t find the beige color sole shoes I wanted for my vacation and ended up purchasing a $5 pair of white sole shoes from Walmart (clearance) for the trip. Surprisingly, I wore these while soled shoes almost every day and am still wearing them months after my trip! Not only did the white soles hold up well to “dirt (not showing)” but those $5 clearance shoes (which I was fully expecting to throw away when I got home from my trip) are so comfortable and still so clean! I am simply amazed!

    Re shoes: you assume we all have a lot of choices in shoes that offer both comfort and style. I have EE width feet with freaky high arches and insteps, so no fashionable or dressy, stylish shoes will fit me. Ever. Or on the off chance they do, they offer no support or comfort. I also have RA, which makes me only able to wear shoes like Birkenstocks and Crocs or thick walking shoes with lots of support. I will also wear my comfy Vionic flip flops here in the south as they are supportive to my freaky wide/high RA foot, and I will die on that hill. I don’t look good in white, so I will also wear beige shoes to go with my warm neutral pants. Fortunately, I’m in the South, where people don’t seem to be as worried as they were decades ago about what others wear, plus many of us can’t afford to be too stylish 😂 We will proudly wear slip on sneakers and mules (I also have really small ankles in addition to the other issues and so clogs and mules work best to keep from blistering my ankles) without caring if they’re stylish or not. I can’t wear those flat-footed sneakers with no support shown in the video.
    Never been able to wear black unless in prints as I’m warm toned and only medium contrast. The wardrobes awash in black also seem to be more of maybe an NYC thing, not so much in the South. It’s too hot to wear six months out of the year 😂 Agree about sparkly t-shirts-not a sequin girlie, but some people do like them.

    Age shouldn’t dictate your style . It you’ve got it flaunt it !
    I never go in granny shops / boring . I wear cut and colours that flatter my shape . Enjoy clothes . I get compliments about my look all the time at work and some are from children. Fashion is only to take money off of you . Just enjoy colour , pattern , feel , I buy new items from charities too. Recycling , eco friendly and money helps charity. I get a bargain plus put my money where I’d like it to go. I buy accessories to add to old outfits to add a splash of colour and softness. Use hair accessories and swop these around to kind of change the same outfit to a whole new level . Jewellery adds class or depending on the design can make an outfit more casual.
    Enjoy your own tastes , do not surrender your perfect judgment on what suits you to the fashion monsters that try to trick us all into suddenly the outfit that they told us was the best thing ever is suddenly naff!
    By all means buy new bits you like but don’t trash the clothes you really love . If they look good on you and you feel good , you’re clearly a great judge of style . Go out , head high , you’re the best already , no need to change .

    I’m in my sixties and I agree with your recommendations. Recently I ran across a pair of pretty cropped pants I wore in my thirties. I thought they might be wearable now. I’ve learned so much since wearing these type pants so when I tried them on again I was appalled when I saw how they looked on me. I find I like certain styles that are classic plus somewhat relaxed..everyday and special events. Recently while waiting to get into a country music concert, I started doing a little people watching! I saw so many people of all ages that have no idea how bad their outfits looked on them. I can’t believe they looked at themselves in the mirror before they left. I use my husband as a gauge too. I’ve taught him to look at my outfit and give me a second opinion! If I ask for his opinion he’ll tell me what he thinks. He’s usually right! 😂😂😂. When I get it right he says I look great! Who doesn’t like a complement like that? Comfortable shoes are so important as you grow older and I do believe they can be hard to find in cute styles. I think simple is more elegant. I’m from Tennessee and everywhere you go here you will see bleached or dyed short hair with unnatural looking highlights, rhinestones, and lots of capris and other bad choice styles for their skin tone worst of all body type. I used to think people start changing the way they dress when they get older. I’m now older and realize that the ones dressing badly for their body type and skin tone…have never learned how to dress better for their body type and skin tone since they were young. It’s really fun to learn these concept at my age. I know I’m getting it right when my husband and my 24 year old son tell me how great I look without being asked which makes me feel even better that I! Your tips are good ones. I will watch your video on shoes.

      I remember, years ago, my young son once said if I wore a certain top he wouldn’t go out in public with me ( he was 7)! I realized I had bought the top at my elderly mother’s insistence. It was a multicoloured wild print, and I realized it was what a woman of a certain age tended to wear! My boy was right, and I still take some advice from him…He is now 24, and if he really likes an outfit he will say “Are you going out? You look great”. I like the opinion of men usually over many women, because they tend to have more classic taste, and are not ‘catty’. They also will say nothing if they don’t like something, where another woman would lie and say I look great when I don’t. Hi Nada. This video came up in my feed and I thought I would watch it fully intending to disagree with everything you said about what not to wear over fifty. I'm seventy one in September and I know I don't look my age plus I love fashion. Not fashion trends, fashion that I'm easy with and I won't be told what I can and can't wear lol. Let me say Nada, apart from capri pants, I entirely agree with everything you have said. I think a lot of 'cheap' fashion looks just that, cheap. Now I'm not a designer gear female by any stretch of the imagination but I do like quality, fashionable quality that can be worn by any age. That said, all the taboos you mentioned are my taboos too. I know what suits me and what dusnt. I love wearing black, I don't use it to hide anything, I just love the colour. I also love white but I'm not really a patterned fabric kind of person, I just prefer, for example, a top of only one colour. I abhor logos and will avoid them like the plague though having said that I have two Chanel bags with the logo on display but if I were to wear a shirt or tee shirt, I don't expect the logo to be on the outside, showing itself to the world. You probably won't see my comment but, I've just subscribed to your channel because I like how you put your topic across, not condescendingly, and like I said, apart from the capris, I agree with you ❤

    Nada, you COULD "wear beige well" IF you got the precise hue for your coloring. Of course there is nothing wrong with getting beige pants in a modern style, but "typical" khaki pants (like you show) are really just a replacement for jeans, when the color of jeans is too warm or the jeans themselves too youthful or heavy looking. If you require a decidedly casual look -- like in all cotton for, say, going to a backyard barbecue -- they're perfect and have remained a classic for 70 years for a reason!

    Did you formerly say "over 40"? Did you change it? Maybe I'm misremembering. (They should keep doing what they did in their 30's, right?)

      I did change it and yes, in your 40s there are far fewer things to take into account for sure. :)

    Well I think elegance rules are also evolving, eg the place of sneakers in combo with a variety of looks. Nada's point sounds a bit belonging to 1 or 2 decades ago. Yes kaki pants are also controversial, etc

      Elegance rules are definitely evolving, but in my opinion, these items have never been considered elegant.
