- Over the course of World Championship VII, there were many hints dropped that some teams risked "dropping out of the Top 50" if their performances weren't good enough. Who knew BattleBots had a relegation system like European soccer? xD
Today, we analyze the numbers and the performances to determine which bots are most at risk of being relegated, and missing out on World Championship VIII.

I think Triton is safe despite Tombstone being there as well, the differences aren't immediately noticeable but significant (reach, drivetrain power, etc) and of course we all want to see them fight!! (also I'm a Triton fan so in part wishful thinking) I'm curious to see how the relegation system affects the field!

Fusion absolutely needs to come back. Their matches against Witch Doctor and Emulsifier were top fights of all time.
That said bot that barely made it into the top 50 vs last year's number 2 (at the time), what sort of sense does that make in the rankings? #2 vs #48?
As long as the redesign is good, I think Fusion would be a lock for the new season. You can't NOT have Reese around xD
And yeah their first two fights were both fucking classics. Had the pleasure of seeing both of them live and it was fantastic

I 100% agree Fusion need to come back. They were responsible for some of the stand out battles of the season. They have a winning design if they can get the reliability worked out and at worst they can catch fire which is always a doozy.
I'm super impressed with fusions vertical spinner. It just absolutely bites like no other. A fusion that is reliable is actually pretty great. Whatever they do, I hope they keep that spinner and figure out how not to light on fire 3/4 fights.
Captain Shrederators needed a redesign for so long at this point it just grows more frustrating to watch them field the same disadvantaged machine every year. Battlebots has been lacking good full body spinners for a few seasons aside from the great run gigabyte had in 2020
Yeah I hope Shred stays as an FBS because we don't have enough of them. I know the Upper Deck has hurt that design, so if they change it up I get it, but I just don't wanna see more verts.
Banshee got fucked over so they should be let in alone on that and they showeed improvement in proving grounds.

The pressurized system in Banshee wasn't rated to the point BB's safety staff were comfortable with (I think they require 2x rated pressure on all the parts vs what you're running in a match) but the team had only rated it to 1.5x (there was either lack of or just failure in communication), so they were forced to run at 2/3rds pressure during their matches. In the match vs Valkyrie or Emulsifier (not quite sure which) they also ran on even less pressure since they were shoved in the arena right after their safety/functional check in the testbox without having an opportunity to refill the tanks.
It's also kind of a derp since the Banshee team considered the pressure limit in the rules as the absolute maximum with no freedom to negotiate (while it's explicitly listed in the rules that teams building pneumatics should contact the producers on what's safe/possible), so almost all pneumatic flippers got exceptions from the producers to run higher pressures (with adequate rating of course) so the flipper itself was even at full power not that great.
the problem with starchild is that it is NOT a new design, they are called thwackbots and they were terrible two decades ago.
even worse it is one of the worst possible executions of the worst possible way to make that basic design concept: bigger wheels means a larger required motion and smaller available striking area all for the sake of...having an exponentially worse drive on a bot that entirely relies on it's drive? yeah, no, if they were in any way gauging functionality on these things as their criteria for admittance instead of guessing at crowd reactions this thing would have been blocked out of the show as a fundamentally nonfunctional design back in the frigging comedy central days let alone now.
If they want this season to be good, include Horizon, Mammoth, Travis T and Hypershock, and keep Riptide out of the competition

But I'd like to see Riptide, the ROBOT, back. Just sell it to another, more sane, team and we're good to go.
Personally, I'm still waiting for the day riptide gets ripped to pieces by either Minotaur or end game

Starchild was supposed to be a meta-breaking design. But in WCVII, it exclusively fought other non-meta opponents.
I would kinda like to see how it does against a meta opponent.
Starchild was not an original design, it was a mix of Huge + Stinger
Starchild is just too slow and awkward. They have to aim while driving and then nail the timing with their big weapon. I just think it's not a viable design.
For a lot of its opponents, that's still no excuse.

It did in champions now, which was HyperShock, the exact kind of bot it was designed to fight. It still lost pretty badly. So yea, Starchild still needs a lot of tweaks if it's losing to the exact kind of bot design that it's supposed to fight, which is short meta verts.

First year bots should be judged lightly given the fact that they are first year bots, teams need to start somewhere, even if up scaling a successful smaller weight bot to the heavyweights. But bots who have competed in multiple seasons that constantly fail or on the big decline, those should be considered danger of not being selected next time.
(First bot I thought of was overhaul)

@@ColeslawAndTheBarangoat Shreddit bro seems to be starting to have some spark, tho not enough. Banshee for some reason gets a lot of hype and I don't get why? Because he's a flipper? I love flippers, but only when they do well, yet banshee has not shown me that he can do well, and so many tells me to give high hopes for this bot in the future. First impression matters and he blew it, so if he returns, he really need to make a strong statement by beating big names or launching bots 12ft in the air before I raise some eyebrow giving second thoughts
Banshee, I'll admit, is getting better. BUT....they've still gotta progress more imo. I'm happy to see them constantly at Proving Grounds though, shows to me that they're working their ass off trying to improve and I respect the hell out of that! >:)
@@ColeslawAndTheBarangoat I haven't seen banshee performance in destruct-a-thon so I can't say much about that. If banshee does return, all I really hope for is that he is capable of putting up a good fight with the big dogs launching them 12ft in the air. I mean obviously he won't be paired up with minotaur or HUGE immediately, he'll probably get some low or mid tiers to start out then maybe get some big names later on to hopefully make the bracket and so on.
As for the other flippers. Blip was understandably not as great as s6 because he got impossible opponents, but also didn't help he got that dumb brick attachment on his flipper that *HINDERS* his opponent from getting on the flipper, if the flipper tip not touching the ground was already tough. Lucky seems to be only really good at lower tier bots, and can't handle any major spinner, but he did put up a good fight with hypershock so maybe there's a slight chance that an improvement for him could step him up to next level territory? Copycat.... um sorry... uh I mean subzero seems to be gone for good since he went the 0-4 route in s6 and the team teamed up with lockjaw. And as for my special someone, he's back!!!! I cannot believe it but he's back!!!! I really thought after bounty hunters he would be gone for good since we literally heard nothing from the team in s6 & s7, didn't show up at all. But now he's back, only in destruct-a-thon of course, but could that tease his ultimate return for s8????? If a miraculous return happens, his current form wouldn't stand much of a chance, he really needs an upgrade (like better drive or lower front) to be competitive for the big name he once was. It would be really exciting to see a newly upgraded version of my special someone, but even if he just returns for exhibition fights, I'm all in for it.
@@ColeslawAndTheBarangoat starchild can go as well. We just gotta admit that this year's batch of rookies are not that good. And looking at the new rookies applying for season 8, the ones from season 7 pale in comparisson. I think they should take a year off and join proving grounds to perfect their design. The show promises the 50 best bots in the world and they need to deliver on that.
Until he does something about those wheels, I feel like Lock Jaw should be on this list. They still give him a lot of hype these days and there's no denying his previous accomplishments, but I think he's been outclassed for a long, long while.
He's a tough one for me, cuz like, it would be BOLD AF to say no to him, buuuut Lock Jaw was winless in '21, and he got fucking lucky to win a couple of his fights this year. He just always does barely enough to keep out of the discussion xD

suprised mammoth wasnt mentioned but at the same time i can see why, battlebots is actively working with mammoth and its a very unique take on a control bot (which is one of the many reasons why mammoths my favorite combat robot), and pretty much everyone of its fights have been entertaining, i hope to see mammoth do better in the golden bolt!
Mammoth may not be my #1 favorite, but I'll always wish them well! Love Ricky's energy and the bot is beautiful
Mammoth is extremely distinct, has pulled off some shocking underdog wins like Huge and Copperhead and has a very popular underdog personality, that’s likely enough to keep them in the conversation

With how the fights are currently setup I don't think there is a way Triton is going to get rejected if Tombstone returns, the producers will want those two to fight if not just for the "veteran vs rookie" angle (even though Triton/Deep Six has been around for a while lol).
Overhaul is also one of those bots I don't think they will relegate, it's been a staple in the reboot and although it doesn't have that many wins, it is a bot that has given some great losses and I think they have been pretty reliable in getting the bot on time and without issues into the arena, something the producers really like.
Kraken had some really bad luck this season, being part of a large set of bots that ran some borked firmware on their ESCs that caused the motors to stop and reset (both Kraken and Beta suffered from this in their match). Considering they just built a bunch of Krakens for Destruct-a-Thon I think they will get another shot at getting the reworked Kraken working properly.
There is also a question of which "top" bots are just going to retire. I think Team Whyachi is done with having to do the groundgame wars with Hydra so there is a distinct possibility they will either enter a new bot or just go with a redesigned Fusion and drop Hydra entirely. Same could be said for Blip as although the flipper mechanism works well there are just a lot of flaws that can't easily be fixed, like it wheelying from the gyro when the weapon is fully charged to just being a flipper in a field of high-power verts and trying to get under them is incredibly hard.
I think bots like Hijinx or Valkyrie will be relegated to alternate/backup status and maybe have a single or two exhibition fights if they don't show up to Proving Grounds to show their bot really does work, while bots like Shreddit Bro have now failed so much that it will be very hard for them to prove that they can build an actual bot.
I agree with what you say about Kraken, HiJinx and Triton. I mean, when it comes to Triton: There are so many similar vertical spinner, having Triton & Tombstone in isn't much of an issue, I think. But I don't agree with the rest, at least..not entirely. First: Overhauls Team got him ready in Time because..he didn't changed in years. Season 7 Overhaul was literally the total same as Season 6 Overhaul. And I would debate the "great losses". However, having a bot that is ready in time and has mostly no issues is a plus, I agree. I also can't imagine that Hydra would drop out. Not only it is successful, it is also a fan favorite, despite the "bad-boy"-image. And Valkyrie? They now had one bad/rough season. I don't think that will relegate them to alternate, especially when you see how many teams are out there, having many rough seasons and still be part of Battlebots. For example: Big Dill, the in the video shown Gruff, Captain Shredderator, and so on.
But, that is what I think and the owner of Battlebots may have a total other view on all this than us.
One thing to point out is I believe that the captain of Trition is technically employed by Battlebots now for the Destructathon shows, so I don't know if that might stop him returning to compete.
I'm sure Team Whyachi will bring two bots, but Hydra won't be one :,( And speaking of them, I swear during one of their live streams someone talked about how Team Seems Reasonable was going to replace Tantrum with a cluster bot and bring that and Blip next season. I gotta look into that xD
Valkyrie is a good Dark Horse for relegation, I'd be surprised to see it but I could see the argument.

@@ColeslawAndTheBarangoat While I can't speak on the aspect of Tantrum, I do know that yes, they do plan on bringing in a multi bot known as The Twins, apparently an upscale of his smaller robots, The Twerps. :3 I'm super stoked to see this! And I do hope they continue bringing in Tantrum and/or Blip as well; I feel it's too quick to retire either of them, tbh! I wonder of Aren will do The Twins himself while one of the pilots of Tantrum/Blip will captain that robot again. Or maybe 3 teams now, ahaha. Would be interesting to see even more Seems Reasonable robots in!
According to the BB Wiki, I think Hydra's still staying, and there will be a remake of Fusion. I saw them both in one of the applicant sections of Season 8.

Also to note, the applicants for next season is the most promising rookies we have ever seen with all new innovative designs. And with some veterans like tombstone, duck and blacksmith applying again they should kick out 10 bots minimum.
Imo this is how it goes. Gruff and Fusion can stay judgimg by their SoS and their promising new weapon design. Banshee can come back because of their proving grounds performance. Kraken, overhaul and free shipping can take up alternate spots as they are fan favourites and entertaining. Horizon and Starchild are risky design and not as entertaining, probably take a year off for practice. Ominous need to leave to make space for Orion or Orby Blade. Hijinx and Shreddit bro can pack up and leave. All their fellow season 5 rookies are now top contenders, these 2 fell too far behind. They should be on top of the kick list.

I know very little about the current group of applicants, besides the fact that Manta is probably already in xD
Plus I do like the thought of Kraken being able to figure out the kinks in their design.
I do like Starchild, but yeah, the design isn't working well so they (and Horizon) would be liable for a break as well. I do believe at least Omega Team will enter with RIPperoni, and we know that one is a very promising robot since tbh, I don't count the Gruff fight since it was new and testing out stuff; After that, Ripp took out End Game AND Copperhead (and HIjinx, but anywho)! Their other loss was otherwise to Black Dragon and even there, it was a very close match until it became too worn to move. Let's be real: When Black Dragon catches fire, that's when it's in its ultimate form. xD
You mentioned flippers being a dying breed, and while I agree, I blame the rule set and how judgement instructions are. I find the rules to be kinda off putting lol

Hey, I know I’m late to this video, but I’d love to add my thoughts!
1. Fusion should be fine because they’re always fun to watch get lit on fire.
2. Triton, Horizon and Starchild should get another year to improve designs (if production rightfully gives them benefit of the doubt).
3. Overhaul, Kraken, and Captain Shrederator should all come back (TBH, probably wishful thinking on my part, but I love all three of these guys; The Captain has been a staple of this sport, and I absolutely love Overhaul and Kraken) I’m hoping for fan favorite reasons for the last two, and grabber bot spots for Overhaul. Kraken should be back regardless because of added time for a redesign.
4. Free Shipping and SHREDDIT BRO should be safe after spectacular performances in the Golden Bolt Tourney, so kudos to them for saving their careers, especially SB.
5. Gruff, Ominous and Hijinx currently seem like the 3 for me at the bottom of the pecking order, along with Overhaul, but I’m still holding out hope for mah cat boi. Gruff’s been going downhill, Hijinx has looked abysmally mediocre, and Ominous hasn’t shown me any flashes of life, but I could be wrong.
Finally I don’t understand what to think about Banshee. They haven’t shown me anything interesting, but they are also a first year bot. Then again, so is Ominous so I don’t really know what to think. All in all, I’d rather see the return of Rail Gun Max, or Orion, and hopefully Bite Force, but I don’t know what the future has in store. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
preempting going back and adding this as an edit: teams generally submit several designs and the show picks which ones they admit, a lot of the "terrible" teams aren't terrible because they have less of an idea how to make something functional than your average third grader they are terrible because battlebots accepted their trashbot/jokebot/heylookatthisgimmick design not one of their "lets try to make something that might actually win" designs.
horizon and starchild are both fundamentally nonfunctional designs made purely for show and frankly they're so bad they can't even do _that_ because why make something well when you know *for a fact* that it is a piece of trash? hijinx is almost as badly off but they at least got told to make something that can theoretically be made...erm, well, not _good_ but at least not completely terrible? the bot is a giant weapon attached to a frame that can't support it and they knew it before they even started designing the thing. the team had a few other designs they wanted to make but the problem with a good bot layout is that half the field is already going to be using it *because it is good* and the production team for the show justifiably does not want 90% of the bots to be some flavor of vertical spinner + some flavor of groundgame with the only real variance being how much they focus on maneuverability...sadly this means that hijinx is quite literally designed to loose: their armor layout is set up for reducing their repair costs _when_ someone gets through it and wrecks them not retaining functionality of the bot during exchanges and they consider it bonus points that it makes damage look worse than it is, the bot is *intentionally* something like 50% empty space for fk's sake.
As someone who saw bot wars back in the day and then life happened, I now have the time for hobbies. Watching the various seasons between this and the British show, you can see people realizing their flaws. Yeah, it was a champion, but someone else figured out your weakness.
Just starting out I think that’s what makes it interesting.
Whether you’re on TV or at a local club, people are always going to be innovating. And if you want to stay competitive…..
Oh yeah for sure, there's very little time to be proactive and find your weaknesses before someone else does. There's been some steep falls from grace over the years. Bronco is probably one of the better examples: went from quarterfinals one season to 0-4 the next. Or even Tantrum, from champion to a 1-4 record and a Round of 32 exit

Overhaul has been a staple in Modern Battlebots tbh same goes for Free Shipping so i dont think they're going anywhere because everyone loves them
Yeah I don't see either of those bots being denied unless they take themselves out of the equation. But if BattleBots was bold and really wanted to shake up the field for the better, that's where they'd have to look
@@ColeslawAndTheBarangoat i should say the ones that should be worried is team glitch tbh like this season has been a complete slump for them everyones opinion about them being a contender suddenly changed all of their fights were like a snoozefest most of the time same goes for team shatter like with Beta back on the field once more and being dominant what else does shatter offer? And lastly i kinda agree with the Gruff pick on this video since the strategy of "Breaking your fist with my face" has been unviable since Duck left and most weapons especially vertical spinners got more and more powerful like its a matter of time before they do something to keep their bot relevant
@@matt6260 From Glitch we already know that they scrapping the Omni-Wheels for normal wheels. With that, driving Issues might be gone and that Glitch can hit hard we already know.

Expected to see Glitch on this list considering their absolutely abysmal performance in World Championship VII. I would give some of these robots another chance like Kraken and Shreddit Bro. Overall, great video and summary on these robots.
I heard a rumor that Glitch may be switching away from omni-drive, and if that is true, then I'd DEFINITELY put them on this list. Hopefully they don't do it
Well I think glitch with no Omni will be dominant, it will most likely eliminate like half the issues. Glitch has actually built their non Omni version with a self righter.

Though I think that Triton has potential, I wish that battlebots would let deep six back in. In my opinion, they kinda cut them off from competing right when they were working everything out and were almost at their peak. Not only was it one of the most entertaining robots of all time, but also surprisingly good when it didn’t get stuck on the floor or the walls. I understand that potential safety threats and the potential for the the box to be damaged in every fight, but I don’t think that is fair considering what bots like ripperoni and tombstone do to the floor in a lot of their matches.
I really hope Fusion stays in the show because Fusion has an incredibly powerful weapon that when it hits something, it shakes the box as proved with Fusion vs Aegis.

As far as trition goes, I like it. They went 2-2 with a very convincing win over glitch ( sept glitch was like 0-4 this season.) I’d like to see them back.
11. Overhaul is the type of robot who either wins spectacularly or it just doesn’t. Probably one of my favorite control robots. This is sad but they may keep him around for the big robots to tear up, and maybe win against a new robot.

The new kraken is very meh, in my eyes the won when they fought beta, great concept just has a few bugs they need to work out.
9. As far as I’m concerned free shipping shouldn’t even have to ask that question, even when they loose their fights are always exciting!

Gruff is really hard for me to like, on one end it has 2 of easily the best flamethrowers battlebots has ever seen, and on the other hand it gets beat almost every single time now by a spinner with no problems. And to add insult to injury they lost to tombstone TWICE!

Something you have to take into consideration whether you like it or not, Kenny even said it. For season 7 horizon was invited essentially as a experimental design that have never been seen before. It felt so good to see them beat shatter.

Jeez, banshee. Personally they just need to fix the ground clearance, the traction and up the power and they could be a very awesome robot. Pneumatic. Flippers aren’t dead!

A lot of you probably don’t know, but ominous was the original Omni wheeled robot that was going to apply for season 5 of the show, after the world got shut down and seqson 6 rolling around, glitch stole their thunder. I’d l be to see them back and do great.

2. I think the main problem with shreddit bro is the front, it’s way to low to the floor, the weapon drags. Fix that and we could have a very fierce drum spinner.

I feel like the show is in a strong position atm, now that they have a more permanent home, the nightly Vegas show + Proving Grounds, etc. Maybe that's just the hope in me talking, idk xD
-fusion i feel is a tad more safe because of the bangers it gave this season. yeah it got wrecked. bt both its fights with witch doctor & emulsifyer were crazy
-triton. i wouldnt hold tombstone being their against it, as we have fewer horizoontals, & so many bots of similar designs when considering verts
-overhaul just doesnt dance like control bots need to to fight at the currnt level of competition, & when they dont the TV suffers for it
-Krakens best bet is its name.. its iconic in the new genreation of BBs & loved by many... itll probs need proving ground showings to stay though

- banshees ebst bet will just the fact there arent any flippers left... esp if Jake finishes his new bot to retire hydra, & if blip stays home. Also teh fact he could only fire at like 50- 60% power last season given poor comunication in pre event safety testing

- Hijnx always goes out gloriously... also its a horizontal.. which again if you want bot diversity to mix up fight, then we want more of. i think theyll be fine
- shreddit had the worst image before the golden bolt tourney. i think they helped to correct that a tad so far. but with numerous Drum spinners signing up this next tournament like Manta. you have to ask whether or not their design is worth the ticket
- CPT Shrederator... needs to retire... i like it that a few bots have made it through every season of the new gen but the bot is just cursed & not the best, even for a shell spinner

I read on the BB Wiki that Fusion may have a drum or eggbeater spinner in its new design, but I'm unsure.
Triton seems to even be struggling with the Proving Grounds, but idk if that's an "official" shot at making S8. It sounds like that's what Proving Grounds is, but a few of these are doing that and some are doing better like others (like Banshee!), so some of 'em may still have a chance to make it.
I really hope that Shred can be remade. Not due to the Riptide fight, per se, but because they have been on the show for years and idk...It just seems like they should have a shot at redemption, and heck...Yeah, I'll say it: Payback against Riptide. xD
Not really because of the fight and whatnot, just to prove that he's still got what it takes. He did beat Tombstone once, and while Tombstone may as well be going down the same path as Shred (maybe not being torn apart, but yo...Send that sucker flying on its own blade and/or set it on fire, and you're most likely got a win on your hands), but much slower, if they both can remake their robots in a major way, then they can definitely become more than big names, they can become big redeemers!
That's why I would super love to see SubZero improved as well. I saw their 30 pound via NHRL vid on YT and while it seems to have a little bit of potential, sadly I can't see it doing much else compared to former fights. Maybe Subz can have a flipper/wedge on one side, and a cutting weapon of sorts (like drum or eggbeater) on the other, so the one side can also just be used to scoop and flip, while the other can be used for damage. Idk, it's just an idea I had in my head for a while; I'm not a builder so idk if it would work in BB, lol. It's a neat sounding concept to me, at least? SubZero is my top fave Bot, and i want it to return, but as a winner (though tbh, I will always love that robot, lol).

I think the new Fusion may have a cooling system. You know Fusion likes to blaze. Also I think Riptide will retire and be gone forever, since everybody wants that team being forgotten. I still have an eye on Minotaur, WitchDoctor and Huge, since these are powerful teams.
What would get me to stop watching would be an autonomous bot.
How exciting could it be to watch the 'driver' flip a dwitch that says "attack", then set down the controller and go grab a soda from the vending machine?

Even though this video is about who might not make it, has anyone seen the new battlebot Orbitron!? It is powered by AI and could be a game changing design. I think it’s gonna get in just because of the creative and interesting aspect of the bot.

I actually didn't realize though, that Chomp was also controlled via AI before becoming a walker. Idk if walker Chomp was also AI controlled.
I honestly fear that should Obitron get accepted, that should it get destroyed and the cameras break, the team will be spending more money on cameras than actual parts for the robot. I do like the idea of it, though.
Pretty certain Orbitron will fail badly as it takes hits. The problem with over engineered bots is they don’t work so well as the tournament progresses and the hits pile up.
Love orbitron but I love roundhouse more. Incredibly destructive based on the fights we saw already

A lot of these bots I can agree with not coming back, others I'd suggest bumping down to proving grounds so they can work the kinks out of their design. Will say in the case of Ominous you could argue that they'd be 2-2 if they didn't get flipped against Switchback, they were solidly beating them before that happened.
I like Ominous, so I hope they get more time. Guess it all depends on what other foreign teams apply cuz honestly idk anything about current applications xD

I wouldn't count Capt. Shredderator out entirely. Brian Nave said that they've been reducing speed the last two seasons and it has shown in their monumental upset against Tombstone.
In the Bronco Bounty Hunter Tournament, they held their own against a powerful and durable RotatoR. Not only did the CS's weapon last for more than a minute while off-balance, it also sent RotatoR flying a few times.
A couple other bots that are on the line are Slammo and Big Dill, but Big Dill had an okay season.
Two losses to start against Hi-Jinx and Skorpios by KO (Big Dill was dominating Skorpios in the first-half of the match) definitely caused some problems, due to their reliability issues. However, it put up a decent fight against Mad-Catter (Even though it lost by JD), and won against Free Shipping by a KO.
Big Dill improved enough during the season that I think they'll be safe, just hate that they had to add a vert to do it xD
I can't wait to see what Shred does. As long as it's not a vert I'm down, but I hope they keep it an FBS

I believe the vertical spinner attachment (And correct me if I'm wrong) was to counter other vertical spinners, or to make the bot somewhat "interchangeable", in terms of their weapon attachments.
As for Capt. Shredderator, I would like it to stay a full-body spinner. As long as they are able to perform a bit better than the last two seasons (Despite a little bit of improvement), I could see them going 2-2, but it's a lot to ask for.

For the Destruct-A-Thon Showbots, they get access to not be rejected, because why would they not have them in the recent season but in the live show would seem strange unless retirement, so I think Kraken has a high chance of staying, same with the rest of the Showbots
That's a very solid theory. I wouldn't be surprised, nor mad, if Kraken returns. Not a favorite of mine but I do respect the family team dynamic they got. Matt seems like a likeable guy too :)

honestly i think control bots wont be around much longer, spinners haven been dominating the game since day 1 and get the most entertainment.
even as a long time fan i cant believe they still let capt shredder back in every year when all you have to do is hit him and the bot self destructs
So here is what I think:
Should be safe:
Fusion, Triton, Free Shipping, Ominous Starchild. Fusion and Free Shipping may not be the best, but Battlebots is about a hugh factor of entertainment. And those bots, no matter how many loses, entertain. Ominous had a bad season mostly because there self-righter didn't worked. Otherwise they might have had a better record. Starchild should be in too, because the design is so unique and in my eyes, this should give them at least one more chance. Free Shipping get's another redesign i heard.
I'm not sure:
Kraken, Gruff, Banshee, Captain Shredderator. I like the ideas/points of the video to these bots here.
Should be relegated:
Overhaul, Horizon, ShredditBro. Horizon in my eyes, just don't work in this scale. The two discs simply cant spin up the corpus fast enough in comparison to..any other bot that has something that spins. Overhaul didn't changed at all for multiple season. The bot was literally just the bot from season 6. Also, to me, it looks a bit outdated and the performances are not stable enough (and yes, I know that he had some rough oponnents. ShredditBro works better than Pain-Train, but still not good enough in comparison to similar bots.
I also think, as much as I like Mammoth, maybe he should pass his place to something else.
Kraken always puts on a good show and since it doesn't die, it at least provides 3 mins of content.
Overhaul has always been boring af.
Gruff is gone. Doesn't do anything exciting.
Horizon probably gets one more year, unless they haven't made any other changes.
Starchild was horrible. Just painful to watch. P1 wasn't much better. I think they're gone.
HiJinx is a better art project than combat bot. They never have any impact.

If the problem is number of slots available, then one solution is limit teams to ONE bot per team. SO no more hydra AND fusion. ETC. Poor performance should place a bot on the low invite probability. High performing bots should ALWAYS get priority. By the way where is BiteForce? (Yes I know the answer) I also know why Tombstone wasn't there, it will be back. Biggest question for battlebots "leadership" is how do we keep battlebots interesting and exciting? Change some of the rules. Perhaps it is time to limit changes to bots; REMEMBER the hydra-huge match where hydra went from being a flipper to being a fence bot with NO ACTIVE WEAPON and still won despite being ordered to permit huge to move by the ref. However, I do appreciate the addition of a leaf rake to eliminate a flying flame throwing drone from the arena.
All of the bots in this video plus some other should not be invited back. BUT why does battlebots not have a "minor league" where young bots can go and gain experience to get into battlebots. AND why does battlebots have to approve designs? Build it, fight it in the minors and get invited to the "major league". That how it should be. Get rid of the approval of designs. OR act on them...WHY does minotaur and copperhead both exist; they are so similar. Your point about Triton (IIRC) and Tombstone is the same argument just different bots.
By this time most everybody has figured out that to win you MUST cause damage to the opposition with an active and violent weapon. Only 3 can be seen (at least by me) vertical spinners, horizontal spinners and high tossing flippers. They appear to be the most like to cause serious damage. Flame throwers are really not fatal to bots. A match only lasts 3 minutes. Many bots on fire (self inflicted or by enemy weapon) have survived to the end of the time limit only to die after the match.
God, PLEASE don't remind me about that match! We've been binging after we got Max in a deal with our cell provider, and that bs with Hydra was literally the only time I've been genuinely pissed off.
I would agree in general with your idea about team limits. Or possibly, mandate that if a team has multiple bots, at least one of their fights should be vs. each other. I was always kind of irritated/suspicious that none of Team Whyachi's bots ever fought each other.
The "no multiple bots" idea is definitely a bold one, but not too crazy! I think they're too quick to hand out multiple slots sometimes. Team Whyachi I'd say is only one of a few teams equipped to handle it, but the Vasquez family tried that with Defender which ended in a disaster, Bots FC got Shatter and Extinguisher and both suffered, and we've seen people break away from one team to start their own, without a lot of instant success.
I wanna know how they decide on the final number each season. 50 slots for WCVII was lower than a couple of the prior seasons, so maybe they'd consider bumping it up a bit?
The "minor league" idea you mentioned is good, maybe that's what Proving Grounds can become. But even in its current infancy, PG is gonna be a huge bonus for production.

Probably a hot take, but I don’t agree with the Fusion pick. I think Mammoth is one that might be in jeopardy. Yes Fusion has it issues but I think they have better fights than Mammoth. I do like both bots tho, Mammoth vs Huge is still a one of a kind match from 2020 that will always be a spectacle. Fusion had two great matches, and showed signs of upsetting Minotaur before it poofed.
I’m also surprised Riptide hasn’t ended up in this list, considering the “controversial” season they had for 2023 😂

I'll happily admit Fusion is the boldest choice on this list xD I love Fusion, and I'm sad to see this version of it bow out in the way that it did. So much potential that just couldn't be reached.
Mammoth was for sure considered for this list, but we like Mammoth :D One of the original wacky designs that wins enough fights to hold onto his spot, at least in my opinion.
Oh Riptide for sure ain't coming back xD We kept this list to bots that were at risk for poor performances, but if we kept it more open ended he'd be #1. Besides what we all saw on TV, I've heard about things I'm unfortunately not allowed to mention that, if true, seals their fate. It's very, very nasty :o
I haven't decided yet if I want to do anything post Golden Bolt. Maybe a Short that quickly touches up on how each bot's case either got better or worse. I'll decide on something a different day!

I just started watching this season but honestly bots like Shrederator and Triton just seemed like complete jokes, like what are y'all even doing here
Triton was a rookie so he can get a slight pass due to inexperience. Sometimes it takes a good 2-3 years for a design to finally start to realize its potential (examples being Huge and Tantrum).
Shred could've benefitted from a redesign two years ago and it feels like it was just neglected until now. We'll see what they build next! Hopefully it works more consistently than the last version xD

I want rid of Overhaul and Shrederator, they've been trading on their past glories (especially in the case of Shrederator) for way too long and yet they're still coming back and putting in a mediocre performance season after season. I honestly don't know why they keep getting accepted when there's so many other bots worthy of a place who are consistently getting overlooked by the producers like Orby and Orion.
I know lots of critics have their doubts about Orion, but I wouldn't mind seeing them simply to end the debate one way or the other. Either the critics are right and Orion is a bust, or he comes in and stomps bots. But let's find out once and for all xD

I couldn't agree more. He's built by one of the premier non US teams and it's more than past the point for the producers of bb to give him the chance to earn his stripes in the battlebox.
The reasons that Shrederator keeps returning are as follows
1. Brian has been doing this for decades and it wouldn't be complete without him
2. Shrederator is a staple of modern BB
3. Whenever Shrederator wins, it's by knockout
4. Those knockouts come rather quickly.

I think you just made a video for video sake. Yes picking what bots come in to the show is tricky. But they all keep getting better and learning. And that a part of what this show is trying to permote.
Isn't that how content works though? xD Yeah it's hard to accurately predict who will be in and who will be out, but even so, it's fun to debate and speculate.
You could argue that only *some are getting better, while others got worse. Hijinx's record shows a decline (TBD though, since Golden Bolt is still upcoming), and bots like Shred and Free Shipping aren't producing better records than their previous seasons. Learning is one thing but at some point it has to translate into more wins.
the bots I would not invite back:
Shreddit Bro, Starchild, Banshee, Ominous, Free Shipping, Horizon, Hijinx, Triton, Beta (get mad at me all you want about Beta...it's a boring ass bot)
Captain Shrederator and Overhaul are two who I would want to keep, but I would understand if they weren't invited back
Gruff deserves to be back, but they need a more durable Whiplash-style lifter and not those flimsy forks

And this is why Vert Kiddies should never be allowed to decide things. Beta's an awesome bot with loads of pedigree (same team as Killerhurtz from the classic BB era) and a good fanbase and overall record behind it, while Banshee and Triton have majorly improved in the off-season (Destruct-A-Thon, etc) as well.

the only entertaining Beta fights are the ones where it gets destroyed by its opponent. Beta vs Bloodsport and Beta vs Kraken were two of the most boring fights I have ever seen in the modern era of Battlebots.
how have Banshee and Triton improved, exactly? Triton got its cheeks absolutely clapped by Manta twice in the proving grounds. Banshee is now able to "flip" its opponents maybe three or four feet in the air instead of one or two, so I guess that's technically progress? lol

After that fight, the top panels and frames on it were completely twisted out of alignment, the Hammer mechanism was basically wrecked, and they came close to puncturing the LiPo batteries. Just because you don't see a bot explode doesn't mean the other one isn't inflicting serious damage. And anyway, Beta's had loads of good fights; Lucky, Nightmare, Tombstone, Rotator, Shatter, off the top of my head.
And as they say, you've sometimes got to give things time to improve, especially with more out-there designs. Look at Donald Hutson's Diesector for instance; didn't even survive its first fight, and went on from there to win two Giant Nuts. Likewise, Triton's losses were to three very good bots (including Manta), so that's nothing to be ashamed of and give up over.

Hijinks is no good for battlebots, it's more suited to participate in a pride parade.
I'm happy to see them compete and represent that community (since Sporkinok wasn't good enough to carry that torch), but I definitely think Hijinx needs to start performing better

All spinners is booooooring. More way-out ideas like Nutz. More genuine innovation, like Chomp's autonomous features and walker mech. Allow entangling armor to make defense against spinners fair.
