275 L6 - has been a super reliable motor for me. 850 hours, and pushes my walleye boat in all kinds of weather with control and speed. They can drink at WOT, but are fuel efficient at lower rpms. I would get it again, but I don't need to. This engine runs great.

I’ve been running Verados since 2009 on Yarcraft boats. Absolutely no issues. Love that digital shifting and power steering. Currently running a 400 on a 219yarcraft. 23 pitch Bravo 1 LT, 6500rpm 67mph, still breaking it in. Awesome work Team Marine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the fleet I look after we had 2 pairs of 225 verados and 2 pair of 200s. The last pair of 225s are being retired (@4800hrs) this winter and will be replaced with seapro 200s. One set of 225s had an engine go down with a melted piston at about 3700hrs, the one that we're still running has a hole rotted through the adapter plate, got it epoxied up to finish the season. At this stage I really like the L6, very powerful, smooth, quiet at idle, easy enough to work on. They absolutely had issues early on; failing coils, corrosion issues, ecms going bad... but towards the end of the production they seem pretty skookum. Don't have much to say about the L4s... seem to run pretty good, coils go sometimes thats about it.
      Apparently Porsche designed the engine.

The verado in our experience with heavy aluminum police boats has been the standard. We miss the 350C yamaha. Ran circles around the 350/400 verados when it came to heavy boats.
Thr 350 verado is a great motor. The regular 400hp verado thst revs 6200-6800 and honestly the 400r is kind of a waste. They revved them out to make the power. No more torque than a 350. If you have a light boat you could make up for it but with heavier boats they are pigs. Picky on propping because you have to get it dead nuts. You have to make sure it gets to 6600 or better other wise it is not better than a 350.
The 450R is built on the AMS (verado) mid section and is a freak of nature. 40% more torque than a 400r starting at like 2500 rpm. It is a supercharged and intercooler v8 4.6L. I think the 20" is around 680#s.
We have run the 600s and they are pretty amazing. We have a pair on a demo boat and it rips. We are close to getting it over 70mph in a 14000#+ aluminum center console (non step hull) lol. Little more tweaking.
The dual prop make zero speed maneuvering both with and without JPO way easier. The authority the props and lower units have is nuts.
The 600 weighs about the same as two 300s but is more efficient in the water. Can't wait to run some more.

I have an 08 L4 on a Lund. Bought new. I had an issue with and oil sending unit, for years. Finally got it chased down and replaced. I kept reporting it and Mercury took care of it. I paid for labor. I’m around 3000 hours and the thing just runs. Keep thinking I need something new until I run a week with it. It gets great gas mileage and gets us home.

Running a 06 Ranger Z21 with a 250 L6. 25 Tempest and get about 6300 rpm. Got Power poles, ultrex, full boat load, and lithium’s. Get consistent 68mph but looking to hit 70+ this winter. We wanna pitch up and 4 blade but it doesn’t bother my too much! Absolute beast of a motor and elevation doesn’t change our power much with the supercharger. And like Andy said in the video, super easy to work on. 4 panels to take off and the entire motor is exposed. Love love love our VRod!

I have a 2007 Verado 150 on a Boston Whaler and the only thing that left me stranded was the fuel float after about one year of service. Luckily I was near the dock and was able to get a quick tow back in. Since that time I've only run ethanal free gas and have had no other problems in its 15 years of faithful service. We use it year round in NC and trust it like it's new.

Really interesting video! Seems like not seeing them in the shop would be a pretty good indicator of their reliability. I've got a 200hp l4 and it's been great to me so far! Aside from the motor, the DTS throttle is incredible and the integrations with vesselview and other engine monitoring platforms is really cool.

    ... 11-16-2022 ...
    On Nov. 2, 2007, I bought a 2005 Triton 240 LTS bay boat w/a 2005 Verado 250 Gen. 1, that had 42 hours on it.
It now is near 1300 hours. I fish the upper Chesapeake Bay and tributaries.
    I LOVE THAT ENGINE! !!!! ...... AND THE TRITON 240 LTS !!!!!!!!
Installed a Bob's 4" Versa Jack that is made specifically for the Verado and heavier engines.
They are beefier than the Bob's HD Jack plate.
    I run a Rev. 4, 19P. Tops out at 52mph at 6,000rpm's.
Monday, 2 days ago, I installed a Monster Marine, Lithium, 36V, 50Ah for my Motorguide Xi5 and the Monster Marine 12V and 36V charger.
YES, I did watch your Lithium battery video. Thumbs up.
The center console lost 144.2 lbs. by replacing the 3- 12v Group 27 wet cells and the 3 bank Minn Kota charger.
When my AGM starting and house batteries have lived a full life, I will be replacing them with 12v lithium's.
After saying all that, I hope to get more speed and better performance from the Verado.
    Thanks for the video !!
    . Jeff .

I feel like if you needed 1200 hp hanging off the back of your boat, three 400 verados come in at 500LBs lighter than two 600's. And about $20,000 cheaper than two 600's. I'm sure there is something about the 600hp that makes it great but i don't know what it is.

    • @hondarideralex
      @hondarideralex 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It is the efficiency. Our triple 350 powered boat ran 7 knots faster with twin 600s. They are efficient. We burned the same fuel at 60+ knots that the trip 350s burned at 54 knots. Trip 600s are more efficient at cruise by a long shot than quad 400s and pick up more top end speed than the 200 horsepower difference shows.
They are also way better at handling heavy boats. The blade area is insane and the lift from the lower unit is awesome. Where a rev4 on a verado will blow out during acceleration on a heavy boat, these things dig in and move.

AFIK the 4 cylinder didn't sell enough to make it worth the effort. They where only built with DTS making them expensife, that and the weight made them a real hard sell for repower. I see one a year, on an older police boat.

The owners of the house we stayed at have a 37’ Sea Vee Z powered by 3-400 Verados; no “R”. I have photos if you would like to see.
The captain said they repowered 2 or so yrs ago. The Verados were awesome, super quiet, and first time I ever had an opportunity to steer a multi motor craft and position a large craft with that many motors over a reef.

It’s on a Ken craft challenger that’s probably running around 7000 lbs. single Armstrong bracket. 24 degrees of deadrise. The f300 is enough but it’s certainly not fast. The boat would be better with twins but again. This one was built as a single.

Verrado's a good outboard but you run it through the sand and it clogged up every passage in the supercharger and then that is a problem

....and if you hit a rock you will bend or break a prop. Duh?????
Stay out of the sand. You sound like a pontoon boat owner.

They are still making the 300r. Gotta be a reason they aren’t making the verado. No demand , relative to others.

      The 300r verado or 400r?

    • @dsmcraig

When i ordered my 400verado i originally wanted the 300r mech shift and convensional mid section. This weighs in the low 500LB vs 668LB verado. I believe and i could be wrong that the 300r torque would equal or be close to the 400 verado. My basic logic on choosing the 400 verado is that the supercharged inline 6 design has been around for a long time and mercury have worked out any issues with the motor. Seeing some of the small issues on the v8 steered me to the 400 verado, but i still like that light 300r. 300r 87 octane fuel, 400 verado 93 octane.

No demand for the heavier L6 verado 300 (93octane) vs the lighter 300r (87 octane). I would still purchase a 300r or pro xs over the L6 300 and the L6 350. The only way it makes sense for a verado would be for the L6 400.

  • @THESHITTTTT65

    They still make a standard 350 and 400 l6 verado as well as a l6 400r
