    Is 'power assist' a dog brothers' technique or is there another source?

    • @RolandoEstocada
      @RolandoEstocada  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The technique is relatively common in FMA, but not a highly emphasized technique. I’ve seen it mostly emphasized in Kalis Ilustrisimo, and I think they did it at the heighest level because they understood how biomechanical structure optimizes beat structure.

      @@RolandoEstocadaohhh interesting. I ask cause I first heard the term power assist in a video of ray floro and burton richardson and mr floro associated it with the dog brothers even though he himself had trained with tatang ilustrisimo.
      At least, thats what i think he said. Will have to look it up. Thanks for answering ^_^

      @antondelacruz9362 that makes sense. I have seen it used in DB. One of my early recollections of power assist was from Col Dwight McLemore in the early 2000’s. He was obsessed with Silat at the time, and shared with us how he liked to implement it.

    I concur on stick and sword differences. Changes a lot of things. Been going back and forth on weapon vs tool dynamic’s lately. Good stuff that makes a big difference. ETA- K.I. definitely develops the left hand of doom lol.

    I love the insight you show on your channel. From the table top review then the martial aspect of the weapons. I’ve always placed high priority in a tomahawk if the world turned apocalyptic since we do live in a gun culture. The tomahawk to me also has that functional tool aspect. This sword though looks like it has some good outdoorsy uses like many Filipino weapons. Thanks for sharing

      Thank you! Check my review of the Full Size RnD - I weigh in on the tomahawk vs itak. For me it’s a VERY tough call I go back and forth on.

      Certainly in a dueling situation the itak would be almost unstoppable against a tomahawk. Speed and reach. It is something I debated with my own training. I also have a Hell’s Belle from Mr. Bagwell and had many discussions with him about the greatness of the fighting bowie. I agreed with him until I started thinking if the world went end of days on us what would I choose? Men don’t duel with weapons anymore. Guns are king no matter what and that is just the reality. So my way of thinking changed and I started training more with the RMJ shrike and loggerhead. I feel safe in a combative situation with these plus they are excellent tools in an urban or wilderness environment. I watched your bladeshow video and noticed you played with the RMJ hawks there. Hope to see you feature one someday

      @tomahawkchop7669 the Shrike(s) are incoming in a couple of weeks and I intend to go deep with those.
      Yes - end of days scenario the tomahawk, the barong, even a super-modded Odachi are on the table because mass attack is THE scenario to consider. When Musashi writes about defeating 10,000 men, I imagine he is drawing from these battlefield/end of days scenarios we are both discussing and ruminating over.

    Master Estocada, Isn’t training with a sharp metal sword too risky for 99.9% of people? It seems unnecessarily dangerous.

    • @RolandoEstocada
      @RolandoEstocada  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is. This is why it is important to seek professional instruction before attempting these techniques on my videos. 😊.

      If you’re in a professional arnis dojo you should be ok. But if you’re home studying then it’s understandable
