We take an up-close look at Gandalf the Grey's Staff with Pipe & Nail (UC 3108), as well as compare it to his light-up Moria Staff (UC 3328)!
Product Description: The staff of Gandalf the Grey is a symbol of his status as an 'Istari', or Wizard. It was once owned by Radagast the Brown, crafted from an upturned, twisted sapling once crowned with twig and root-like protrusions, but now all broken and worn down. As well as being Gandalf's trusted walking stick and a fighting weapon when in need, it holds a deep magical power. Radagast's rune mark is carved into the side and the crown features a grooved shape that once held Radagast's blue crystal, now serving as a place for Gandalf to store his pipe. Pushed into the side of the staff is a nail spike which Gandalf uses as a tobacco tamper, and once used to scratch a rune into the door of Bilbo Baggins home in Hobbiton.United Cutlery's Staff of Gandalf the Grey is an authentic replica of the movie prop cast in polyresin with authentic details and coloring. The attached polyresin pipe and spike replicas are removable, and the staff comes with a polystone wall display that matches the display design of United's other staff replicas from The Hobbit.

ive always been an admirer of Gandalfs staff. Not only is it rock hard but the sheer length and girth of it are truly impressive. a magnificent specimen.

If you're ever in London you can go and visit the original movie prop of Gandalf's staff. It' behind the bar in a pub called The Grapes.

From the first series or the hobbit series? I wonder, the concept of 'original' seems a bit funny. I had a part to play in the fabrication of the hobbit ones, and they were printed at different scales depending on who was holding them when filmed. They were also not the sturdiest things, so I would be a little surprised if they lasted this long, let alone the trip from New Zealand to London.
Yes the original one lol Sir Ian McKellen is a co owner of the pub in London and the prop if mounted behind the bar on display.
I like how the pipe fits in with the curvature of the staff, was this also in the movies because I had absolutely no idea 🙆🏻♂️

It was indeed! If you go watch scenes like Gandalf at Isengard, you can totally see the pipe in multiple shots.
A million times I have seen the movies but never did I even think to pay attention to that. From now on I will!

Your constant “cleaning of the pipe” cracked me up! 🤣 Gandalf does take a long time to clean it. Also the staff is super cool! I also just went and watched a clip of Gandalf at Isengard and his pipe WAS there! I had no idea, it’s so cool!
That ending with the PIpe was dope.
This is indeed from the Hobbit, upon further inspection to the staff from Fellowship there is an addition "G" rune carved into the side as well as a hole for a leather strap that holds a pouch. If you compare this to the same one Weta offered you will find those differences. Also it looked like the pipe was scratched inserting it into the staff, must be a super tight fit.

That is a nice collectable. You are amassing a good amount of Tolkien items. I recently went on a binge of decorating my home with Tolkien art, but I went the way of framed posters of the many different maps of Middle Earth and some architectural images of Bag End.

This just reminds me of one of the few questions I still have about LotR… where tf did Gandalf get all his replacement staffs? Like after his imprisonment at Isengard, where'd he get the Moria staff, and after his encounter with the Witch-King in the extended edition, where'd he get his replacement white staff?

Gandalf had two staffs. Before the fight with the balrog and after Illuvatar resurrected him. This staff is from before his fight with the balrog.
He played with them at the end 😌❤

The cleaning of the pipe was hilarious! You are actually supposed to move it in a circular motion around the inside of the pipe walls. It scrapes off all the burnt tobacco and creosote from the sides and drops it into the pipe chamber so you can remove it by turning it over and dumping it out. You looked like you were trying to clear a pesky clog from a drain.
Now I'm imagining a much younger Gandalf- having just been introduced to the concept of pipes and and pipeweed by, I'm assuming, some hobbits- cleaning his first pipe in _exactly_ that manner while the halflings look on.

1:Staff,
That is why it is my firm belief that Gandalf is the most powerful wizard in literature and film.
Such a cool staff, I like how you can slot his pipe in the top. Very handy.
There is a store in Hannibal MO that sells all the LOTR weapons just like this, same manufacturer. Also online. It is awesome to see them all in person.

That's his earlier Hobbit staff from the beginning of the movie that gets destroyed by Sauron in Dol Guldur.
Yeah, that one kinda was turned to ash by Sauron in Dol Guldur during The Desolation of Smaug.

I love that staff...i bought it a few months ago. Wish i could get a working pipe to go with it!
Personally I always liked this staff the best out of all his others for its greater purpose to Gandalf
The one he had in the hobbit movies (most of them) was fun but it was only used to light up dark halls and that’s it really (except magic of course)
And the one he had for his fight with the balrog while looking awesome also was lost quite quickly and the replica version the crystal can fall out of the front,
Finally the one for Gandalf the white always felt like it needs to be on a wall so I might look into that in the future but this one’s my fav for the sheer extra details in it like radagasts symbol and the pipe
I think I might get both this one and the noble collection one

I've actually got one you can see a bit in the background. It was also from a yard sale and is chipped a bit, but considering the price I paid, it was totally worth it.

So Saruman takes Gandalf's staff in Isengard, which was originally Radagast's staff. Then Gandalf gets a different staff that he loses while fighting the Balrog in Moria. Finally, his third staff is broken by the Witch King in the extended edition of Return of the King. Gandalf goes through staffs like Pippin goes through pipeweed 😳
I loved it in the books whenever Gandalf used his trusty knife. I wonder why Jackson cut those scenes out.

Is this staff a solid piece? Is it hollow on the inside, or is it completely solid? Although a collectable item, could this theoretically be used to walk through the woods with? (Provided some protection is used for the bottom of the staff) Thank you, good people of Middle-earth.
You could use it as a walking stick. I’m sure it can take some weight if you actually use it for support while walking. Just think about it as being a frail old stick that you found in the woods that will break if you put way too much weight in it. Its a completely solid polysresin piece so its pretty heavy too. The bottom will definitely scratch and lose it’s paint job if you don’t provide any type of protection.
