Given how physically demanding the making of this film was, I'm not sure the actors could have done it without Vigo. The guy's a trickster who always seemed to keep their morale up. 30/50
Dude was an all around BA. I love how he greeted everyone with a headbutt each day, then in between filming he’d go to nearby stream and fish until he had shoot again.
The preparation for this movie is what made these movies such a success. It was not thrown together the night before, but a well thought & dedicated interest in authenticity, with the best persons playing each character. It is a well loved movie trilogy which I still watch to this day.

Ayy, I was just in Hobbiton about 50 hours ago, it was pretty cool! Not sure if it's in the video, but a lot of the Uruk-hai actors were New Zealand military. Apparently they were too good at the fighting during the large scale battle scenes so they were "winning" a lot of them instead of losing like they were supposed to, but eventually eased up and got it down.
In regards to Sean Bean and the helicopter. He did get in to it on the first day. Unfortunately for him, Dominic and Billy had told the pilot to show Sean what he could do leading to one crazy trip which made Bean so scared he preferred to get up five hours earlier and hike up in full gear.
Not only to get to NZ in the first place but his line of work makes me wonder how much he struggles with this. Or was it simply an excuse to get a hike in while getting into character or something...
I always thought that was mean, but I don’t know if guys would consider it so. Either way, I’d have felt bad seeing him struggling to climb that mountain at the crack of dawn.
@@redreaper2752Yeah it makes sense for Merry and Pippen to do but maybe not your fellow ACTORS. Maybe they didn’t realize how terrified he truly was, but when they saw him hiking up the mountain, I bet they felt pretty bad about it.

This trilogy is not just a pop corn flick. It is a true experience! I think Jackson made some really decisions with the film adaptation. Instead of putting Tom B in the film Jackson became Tom Bombadil. Of all the changes made from book to screen I am very happy with the product. I mean so much so that I crown it the very best Hollywood has to offer. It blows the doors off Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon. The crowning jewel of the film industry. When you craft something on this scale it becomes a true marriage of skills. They only cut corners that didn't show. Blood Sweat and tears created something special.

I’ve been a lifelong cinephile, loving films of every genre, era and description. If one includes degree of difficulty in the equation, there is simply no denying that LOTR is the greatest achievement in the history of cinema and is unlikely ever to be eclipsed. Even if degree of difficulty is excluded, a very strong case can be made for its superiority to any other film that is considered great.
Regarding point 3 with the 250 horses, did you know that it was Bernard Hill (Theoden) who suggested to ride along the lances with his sword gracing them?
I think everyone has heard how Viggo broke his toes. You forgot to mention how Sean Astin put a glass shard through his hobbit foot, which came out the top of his real foot. Plus the scene with Viggo in the water, he was pulled under by the current and pinned there. The Safety Dive team couldn't find him, and just as he was out of breath...the current released him.
I wanted to say that too. You typically obscure the actors behind an object like a pillar or something for a brief moment for the switch. Just using the picture frame here was done masterfully. The most important thing is that both actors maintain a very similar direction and speed in their motion and the viewer can’t even notice it.

Also many of the FOTR scenes in this video are taken from the EE Blu-ray that has the awful green/blue tint and thankfully corrected with the new 4K transfer.
I knew all of these facts, mainly because I’ve watched the appendices to death and love them but nice to see them on here as well from someone who loves the franchise as well

The movie Simi Tuff was shot in cowboys stadium for the on field shots. I was living there at time and unemployed. The ad said free food. that was all I needed. The weather was not good and only about 600 ppl showed. So what they thought would be a quick morning shot feed them lunch and send them home to all day and into the night. I got feed three times that day . They had us moving all over the place for dif shots. We walked a good 5 miles that day. Easy for me but for some it got hard and they would just sit for a while and then join back in. That was a fun day and my first and last movie ever to be in. I live putting it up on my 76" zooning on he crowds and showing where I am in all the stands scenes
I didn't know or at least i couldn't remember 5, 8, 20, 28, 33, 34, 47, 48 and 49 I am bad with numbers, so i didn't know the exact numbers for 3 (but knew it where a lot and the number in the books and movie), 9 (but knew there where multiple in all kinds of sizes) and 12 (but knew it was shortly after and very early in his career) So i only really completely knew 38/50 and my favorite trivia i learned by far was 33 :D (Viggo Mortensen throwing apples at Billy Boyd 😂) You really got me with number 50 😅 Whole LotR love ♥️

I loved the video! Here is just something you can use another time maybe. InTwo Towers,after Gimlis line "No Sign Of Our Quarry But What Bare Rock Can Tell" when the 3 are running on the hill after the Uruk Hai, you can see a part of Gimli's armor fall off. (Well, I think it's an armor (leg) piece.) 😊
There was just two reshoots, not three. They filmed The Grey Havens once, then they reshot because of the vest mishap and then they had to do it a third time because of blur that happened because of a camera mishap (not because of the mistake of a focus puller as stated in the ddirector and writers commenray).
If they had gone through with killing one of the hobbits, or they had to bend the knee for the Weinsteins, I can guarantee the LOTR series would not have gone down as well. Members of Tolken’s family already hated it, they would’ve disowned it if they killed the hobbit
Sean Bean DID go in a helicopter once and it was up in Caradras scene where he picks up The Ring after Frodo drops it in the snow. He was so afraid when he rode the hlicopter that he struggled NOT to think about it for the rest of the day, which Viggo noticed and asked about it.
Fran Walsh had a cold the day they recorded her scream so it was a lot gravel in her voice, which made her scream come of as weird according to her. The result was that Fran destroyed her voice after she did her recoding of her scream. Like Peter Jackson says "Pain is temporary, film is forever.".
this was good i learned a few new things but you could of including the scene where Sam steps on glass and went through his foot when he is on the ramp trying to swim to Frodo`s canoe
Gandalf actually would have lost his pipe to Saruman after losing his fight in Orthanc. He has a different staff in Rivendell and on the journey. I know this because I had to choose which staff to spent a crap ton for a replica of and went with the “Moria” staff. Hope Saruman got good use of the pipe with all the pipe weed he had stored up
I just saw it today. I hope one day they will release all the cut scenes. Especially from the battle of the last alliance , and Aragorn fighthing Sauron. I knew 42😊 but I love the behind the scesnes almost as much as the trilogy. And since rings of power even the cringe scenes and the CGI in the Hobbit movies seem forgivable. At least it all feels like middle eart and the character who are Tolkien characters are not ruined. Btw. As much as I love Legolas, I also adore Thranduil, especially when he fights. His comstumes and sword are gorgeous and he looks totally royal

I don't think you gave Christopher Lee enough credit at 04:45. The reason he contested the sound of a man being stabbed is that he had been stabbed for real. He knew sound he made when it happened.
@ yes definitely. Being much more of a Star Wars fan than a LotR fan I didn’t know too much going in, but was super impressed. My only criticism is it almost imitated Game of Thrones than Middle Earth tone wise. But beyond that I thought it was absolutely wonderful. 9/10
Nailed it, 100%. But to be fair, I've seen all of the BTS footage even more times than I've seen the movies, which is saying a lot since I saw FOTR more than 10 times in the theaters.
I did NOT know that there were 50 rings created and the largest one was in the snow...IF I wanted to make more movies instead of creating the "Hobbit" I would have explained that Frodo got it wrong. He destroyed the wrong ring and could not leave the SHIRE again, so Pippin took the White Horse and went back alone with the right ring. However, his first stop was the WHITE OAK Kingdom and he was trying to find the ghost of the Captain....Then he finds out that he never died but was searching for a Treasure map, since his Father disowned him and he was hiding from his Brother...Pippin shows him the map and asks for his help to destroy the real ring.
I'm glad they changed the fight with Sauron to a troll (a troll in the daylight...??). I just don't have any criticism for these movies. They were made over 20 years ago and they're STILL good.
Loved this trilogy, it's second only to the first star wars trilogy in my opinion!! I have the original and special extended version of all of them on DVD!!! Used to watch them as movie nights with the kids, and on snow days we would either put on this or Star Wars and watch all 3 when the kids were home all day!! I need to do that with the grandkids as they are getting old enough to watch and understand them now (10&11 yrs old, one is too young at 4 but the other 3 are old enough) My score was 22/50
Though a lot of the sounds from the sports crowd couldn't be used as some drunks in the crowd would shout inappropriate stuff like "G'day Pete, how're ya doing, mate!".

There was just two reshoots, not three. They filmed The Grey Havens once, then they reshot because of the vest mishap and then they had to do it a third time because of blur that happened because of a camera mishap (not because of the mistake of a focus puller as stated in the ddirector and writers commenray).

Sean Bean DID go in a helicopter once and it was up in Caradras scene where he picks up The Ring after Frodo drops it in the snow. He was so afraid when he rode the hlicopter that he struggled NOT to think about it for the rest of the day, which Viggo noticed and asked about it.
Fran Walsh had a cold the day they recorded her scream so it was a lot gravel in her voice, which made her scream come of as weird according to her. The result was that Fran destroyed her voice after she did her recoding of her scream. Like Peter Jackson says "Pain is temporary, film is forever.".
Gandolf, Saruman, and the Balrog are the same type of entity. Both are Maia or...Wizards.
this was good i learned a few new things but you could of including the scene where Sam steps on glass and went through his foot when he is on the ramp trying to swim to Frodo`s canoe

Gandalf actually would have lost his pipe to Saruman after losing his fight in Orthanc. He has a different staff in Rivendell and on the journey. I know this because I had to choose which staff to spent a crap ton for a replica of and went with the “Moria” staff. Hope Saruman got good use of the pipe with all the pipe weed he had stored up

I just saw it today. I hope one day they will release all the cut scenes. Especially from the battle of the last alliance , and Aragorn fighthing Sauron. I knew 42😊 but I love the behind the scesnes almost as much as the trilogy. And since rings of power even the cringe scenes and the CGI in the Hobbit movies seem forgivable. At least it all feels like middle eart and the character who are Tolkien characters are not ruined. Btw. As much as I love Legolas, I also adore Thranduil, especially when he fights. His comstumes and sword are gorgeous and he looks totally royal

@ yes definitely. Being much more of a Star Wars fan than a LotR fan I didn’t know too much going in, but was super impressed. My only criticism is it almost imitated Game of Thrones than Middle Earth tone wise. But beyond that I thought it was absolutely wonderful. 9/10
Nailed it, 100%. But to be fair, I've seen all of the BTS footage even more times than I've seen the movies, which is saying a lot since I saw FOTR more than 10 times in the theaters.

I did NOT know that there were 50 rings created and the largest one was in the snow...IF I wanted to make more movies instead of creating the "Hobbit" I would have explained that Frodo got it wrong. He destroyed the wrong ring and could not leave the SHIRE again, so Pippin took the White Horse and went back alone with the right ring. However, his first stop was the WHITE OAK Kingdom and he was trying to find the ghost of the Captain....Then he finds out that he never died but was searching for a Treasure map, since his Father disowned him and he was hiding from his Brother...Pippin shows him the map and asks for his help to destroy the real ring.
I'm glad they changed the fight with Sauron to a troll (a troll in the daylight...??). I just don't have any criticism for these movies. They were made over 20 years ago and they're STILL good.
Loved this trilogy, it's second only to the first star wars trilogy in my opinion!! I have the original and special extended version of all of them on DVD!!! Used to watch them as movie nights with the kids, and on snow days we would either put on this or Star Wars and watch all 3 when the kids were home all day!! I need to do that with the grandkids as they are getting old enough to watch and understand them now (10&11 yrs old, one is too young at 4 but the other 3 are old enough) My score was 22/50
