I’m the same way with lights, Claire! Candlelight while showering, no overhead lights…just a golden glow. It just adds to the coziness I always crave. Wonderful book recommendations today, as always. Thank you!!🍂🍁🥮📙🧡🤎
Thank you so much for sharing your review of our Pumpkin Spice candle! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed it and truly appreciate your kind words. Your support means a lot to us, and we’re so happy to see Cozy Glow candles creating a cozy atmosphere in your home! Thanks again for taking the time to share-we can’t wait to see what you think of our other scents too!
I really struggled with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell but you've convinced me to give it another go. We are hoping to relocate to York so it's great seeing your recommendations. Thanks so much x
I love how your outfit and makeup matched perfectly with your edition of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell ☺️ even down to your nails matching under the dust jacket!
I LOVE Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I'm currently reading Piranesi, and it's unlike anything I've read before. Susanna Clarke is something else, in the most wonderful way!
Here it is too warm, but that is autumn in this part of the world. 😏To get into the autumn feel I decorate my house with autumn colors, burn candles, and read autumnal books. I wish you all a cozy, beautiful, and cool autumn.
The intro was absolutely hilarious! "The leaves of my heart" 😆 Poor Ben, I hope he won't be scarred for life by his unfortunate encounter with that seagull... You've made me want to re-read "Jonathan Strange" now! And being firmly on Team Anne, I thoroughly approve your plans to get better acquainted with her.
I think my previous comment was deleted as I included a link. I just wanted to let you know that Susanna Clark is doing a talk at the Southbank centre in October if you're able to get to London. I'm also hoping to reread Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell soon. Lovely video 🍂!
I loved the quote you read from Jonathan Strange to illustrate the similarity between the narrative voice and that of Jane Austen. It was absolutely reminiscent! Thought you might be interested that I just watched a Women’s Prize event with Susanna Clarke where she described a key influence on the narrative voice in JS&MN being Jane Austen 🤓
Its absolutely chucking it down here but it's humid and warm at the same time! I love hearing your recommendations of where to go in York because we will be visiting soon. JS&MN is my favourite book so I love that you love it too! I re-read it last year so I probably want to leave it a bit longer for another re-read, we'll see!
We have a campervan. We waited many years before we got it. We have just returned from a trip to Yorkshire. It was a Bronte pilgrimage for me. I fell in love with Haworth, and the walk to the Bronte Waterfalls and Top Withens was on my bucket list. It was beautiful and so was the weather.❤❤🍂🍂🍁🍁
Amazing autumnal video! 🍂🍁🍂 a heat wave is coming to California tomorrow but I’ve already whipped out my fall candles (one is pumpkin cheesecake, the other is caramel apple 🤩). I’m hoping to read “Bring Up the Bodies” soon. I read “Wolf Hall” last year at this time and it didn’t seem right to start the next one in spring or summer. Also, I highly recommend Agatha Christie’s “A Murder is Announced” for this time of year; it takes place in October. It’s also a Miss Marple mystery, my favorites.
Thank you Claire for such a lovely video! I am now motivated to both try reading "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrel" (the length does indeed intimidate me) and try and find some locally made seasonal candles! 😊🍂
Thank you for saying Halloween Party is an awful book! It’s so bad and put me off reading more Christie even though I know it was written in her creative decline. I did love The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. I’ve only read The Woman in White by Collins. It’s quite amusing in that Victorian, sensation-novel style and I loved the character Marian Halcombe. Thank you for recommending the National Portrait Gallery exhibit ‘Six Lives’. I took my Mum when she was visiting London and we both enjoyed it. 🍁🧡
Yes, very unlike me! I don’t really count my snapshot videos as a part of my monthly upload schedule because they’re more for me than anyone else. It’s been about a month since I’ve sat down and filmed a video so in my head we’re right on track aha 😅
What a beautiful mug! And what fabulous non-fiction books too, I must look out for them. I did enjoy Susannah Clarke's writing and must reread it soon. My favourite Anne Brontë book is Agnes Grey, but I also found the Tenant of Wildfell Hall a strangely satisfying read. Lovely episode x
Yes, it's suddenly autumnal here in Boston, New England. It's chilly, rainy and gloomy after a long spell of sunny dry weather. Looking over at my bookshelf, I see a copy of a book of short stories by Edgar Allan Poe called "Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque". Seems appropriate for the season and weather. Poe lived in Boston at one time.
Hahaha! I couldn't help laughing at how you introduced this video and explain the mug memories "of Ben getting attacked and me seeing Whitby abbey again!" some treasured moments to remember hehe!! The seagulls aren't to be reckoned with 😂 I had four of them swooping at me once for my chips, I have to say they did unfortunately mug me of them!
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell has been sitting on my shelf waiting to be read for...20 YEARS...yes TWENTY lol XD I've been meaning to finally pick it up this year so guess I should get to it haha!
I’m 150 pages into Rewitched and I’m really enjoying it ☺️ scent is also really important to me, I’m currently on fresh scents for September but then it’ll be cinnamon and pumpkin for October. Lovely video, as always ☺️💛🍂
I smiled when you said that those wee hearts smell like caravans and they smell like home. I feel the same way about barns. No, I wasn’t born in a barn😆but I was raised in a rural setting and so the smell of a barn (or even a freshly plowed field) takes me back to my childhood.🍁🍂
I’ve been meaning to read Jonathan Strange for the past 15 years as it’s one of my friends favourite books 🙈 maybe this is the push I’ve needed to actually get round to it! Crooked House is a good choice for your Agatha pick! I also hated Halloween Party when I read it a few years ago, that’s the only Agatha I’ve not enjoyed that I’ve read so far - really is a dud isn’t it 😂😂
Wilkie Collins is one of my absolute favourites! I think The Woman in White is great place to start, but also Armadale, The Moonstone and No Name are unmissable!!!! 🧡💛🤎 I hope you'll enjoy! Happy autumn!
I have to be honest, I read Joanathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and I remembered almost zero of it 😆....It's a heat wave here in Ottawa Canada, so 25 to 30C during the day, dipping to 10 to 15 C overnight. We can't wait for fall sweater weather. Currently rereading the True Blood Sookie Stackhouse series, Rouge by Mona Awad was fantastic, and digging into Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison! This is my book SEASON 🎃
'The Murder of Roger Aykroyd'-Agatha Christie, a 'must- read'. & for Wilkie Collins, 'The Moonstone'. Early example of the modern detective novel. Good Reading, both.😊
🍁Lovely video, Claire. It isn’t autumnal here, either, but I do see the leaves beginning to change so I’m hopeful 😊. I’ll have to give Jonathan Strange a look. My absolute favorite cozy scent is vanilla… makes me just feel bliss.
Once it hits October, I'll be reading Stephen King's latest, a book of short stories titled You Like It Darker. Gotta have some spookiness in the month of Halloween. But it is a little hard to feel autumnal at the moment, even though it is officially autumn now and I am sipping a pumpkin spice coffee--it's supposed to be 90 degrees (32 Celsius) today here in California. I want to wear sweaters! Thanks for your book suggestions, Claire.
As usual, your recs become the top of my TBR! I plan on getting a copy of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel based on your rec. I'm not normally a fantasy reader, but your Jane Austen and Dickens comparisons have me intrigued! I need a re-read of Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I recently found a beautiful Folio edition of it. I also really really want to get the book on Victorian Mourning. I teach Gothic Literature, so this is"right up my street" as they say. Love your local candle recs. I too am heavily influenced by scents. Currently enjoying Hexennacht's Wuthering Heights atmosphere spray, in case you're interested. (sorry for the novella of a comment!)
Fellow brass lover! I'm doing renovation right now and have discovered that i'm obsessed with brass. You liking mystery and hating Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie is so funny! LOL Have you ever tried Paddywax Library or Apothecary candles?🍁 🍂🍂
We're in Spring in Australia right now & I'm not looking forward to the heat of Summer. I think The Woman In white Is the perfect Wilkie Collins book but would love to reccomend The Moonstone as well. I really enjoyed The Hound Of The Baskervilles, it was my introduction to Arthur Conan Doyle. ❤
🍁📚🍂📚🍁 My whole October tbr may go out the window now, so I can pick up my unread copy of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell! Edit: I just finished The Woodlanders by Thomas Hardy, perfect for fall!!
Ooo, I love that mug! I just received my pre-ordered copy of Rewitched and so excited! But, oh no, I just purchased Halloween Party to try to find an appreciation for Agatha Christie because I feel like the only person on the planet who doesn’t like her books. I read two of her books in high school many, many years ago and felt like she cheated the endings on both. I’m in the San Francisco area and we’re starting to get Fall days 😊intermingled with warm days 🥵.
Thank you so much! Closed captions are available on my videos automatically and I edit them for accuracy so you should be able to have them turned on ❤
Hi Claire! I am reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall as well for Victober! I have been looking forward to it all year ever since I was gifted (gift card) the Folio Society illustrated version. I'll be interested to hear what you think if you do read it🎃 Happy Autumn!
🍁🍁 I'm reading The Woman in White which I'm enjoying very much. I live in tropical south Florida which means I just pretend that Autumn is here. 😂 The only Autumn leaves 🍁 I will see are the ones in these emojis! 🤣
🍁🍎Happy Autumn to you - from Maine! we are experiencing one of the best Septembers in a very long time, sunny, comfortable temps and you can feel the crisp autumn air 🧡🍂🎃
I holidayed in Yorkshire last year and spent way too much money day on lovely smelly things at Freckleface and The Cabinet of Curiosities in Howarth. What I particularly like about Freckleface is the ceramic stars that they sell that you can put oil on and can spread the scent around the house when you put them on radiators and wood burners this time of year - still working my way through evergreen. If you haven’t tried them already, I’d really recommend candles from St Eval, Cornish based business made with soy and the quality punches above its weight for the price. They do lots of stunning seasonal ones, my favourite of which is Embers Lovely video
oh and I am a little closer to reading Dr Strange and Mr. Norrell after your description. I have been putting it off for years!🚃(that's supposed to be a caravan :)
Thank you Claire 🥰Mostly for mentioning Rewitched, but also for adding a whole ton of books to my TBR, so many of these sound right up my street 😍
I’m having an autumnal cosy reading night later and this video has put me in the perfect mood! 🧡
I’m the same way with lights, Claire! Candlelight while showering, no overhead lights…just a golden glow. It just adds to the coziness I always crave. Wonderful book recommendations today, as always. Thank you!!🍂🍁🥮📙🧡🤎

🍁🍁🍁🍂I laughed out loud when you said Ben got hit in the hesd by a seagull and now feel like a terrible person! Fab video as always xx
@@scribbler_maxi I laughed out loud too Max so it’s all good 🤣
The leaves of my heart are turning. ❤ I am willing fall to get here soon as well.
Oh such a lovely video🍂🍁 I was hyping myself up for Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell last autumn/winter so this year might be the year🤞😊
I love how your outfit and makeup matched perfectly with your edition of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell ☺️ even down to your nails matching under the dust jacket!
I LOVE Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I'm currently reading Piranesi, and it's unlike anything I've read before. Susanna Clarke is something else, in the most wonderful way!
I adored Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. Took a break at the middle and couldn’t put it down when I resumed. 👍
The Woman in White and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall are both fantastic! ❤ I think you’re going to love them!

You've made me want to re-read "Jonathan Strange" now! And being firmly on Team Anne, I thoroughly approve your plans to get better acquainted with her.
I had no clue that Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell has any setting in York!!
We are currently in the middle of an epic storm in the midlands, it’s been heavy thunder, lightning & rain for the last 6 hours or so.. 🍂🍁🍄
Much the same as Maidstone for most of the night, quite a storm

I’m currently walking the Coast2Coast and the weather has been brutal! It’s actually much warmer and dryer back home in Western Canada!
Rewitched is on my Amazon wishlist.
I love your green dress and black lipstick.
