A secretive hunter from the North - American Marten

American Martens (Martes americana) are omnivorous predators, mainly of small mammals and birds, but they will also eat fruits, insects and sometimes carrion. Although active day and night, the secretive American Martens are difficult to see. They can mostly be found in Canada, Alaska and mountain ranges in the western part of the USA. Martens are sensitive to hunting, trapping and logging and have been extirpated from most of the eastern states.
This member of the mustelid family is also known as American Pine Marten or Pine Marten (but a different species from the closely related European Pine Marten - Martes martes).
